  • Dude, hunting is HARD! Especially when you're trying to learn on your own, and you're hunting public land. But that's what makes it so exciting. I love exploring, I love learning, and the fun of the experience is what it's all about! This year I took my CVA Accura .45 into the woods in Pennsylvania for a public land adventure. I found mushrooms, new hunting spots, saw deer, other hunters, and ultimately had a great opportunity to shoot a deer! Well, to ATTEMPT to shoot... TO BE CONTINUED!

That's so awesome this video was sponsored by CVA! I knew when I bought my CVA it was quality and it will last forever. If you put a party balloon in your pack, you can put it on the end of your barrel if it starts raining. Good luck Allie and Nick ✌

Lesson learned from 1 of my buddies in the early 80s, don't get married between August 21st and January 31st. I killed the day he was married and missed the wedding. Has been messing up his hunting ever since. Hunting in the rain has been quiet productive for me over the years. The muzzle loader industry has come a long way in the last 40 years. We had Thompson kit guns from Western Auto in those days with patched round balls and genuine black powder. Nasty stuff.

Good video Allie your positive attitude will always get you over the bad days and unsuccessfully days hunting.when you use them power belts try a product called bore butter after you clean your gun run a patch of it down the bore and you can get 5 or 6 shots between cleanings good luck

Blackhorn 209 is extremely stable compared to black powder and as long as it doesn't get WET, can be left in the barrel for quite a long time without the worry of misfiring or slow ignition. Just cover the muzzle and keep the breech closed.

  • @carterthiessen2664
    @carterthiessen2664 Год назад +1

I left my cva loaded with blackhorn 209 for 2.5 weeks, shot a nice buck a little over 100 yards away just fine. What i do is put a fired primer in it when I remove the live one so it stays sealed. I've heard of people accidentally leaving them loaded all year after the season and they still fire just fine and hit where they aim. I definitely don't recommend that but leaving it loaded for the duration of a season for a few weeks is no problems. Obviously check your local regulations as far as what the legal definition of loaded is.

Don’t be afraid to hunt with a long gun from a saddle. It can work great. I love how I can stay essentially behind the tree and use the tree for both cover and a rest with a long gun. Loading a muzzleloader can be a bit tricky but certainly not impossible.

Hi Allie, I enjoy your videos. When hunting with a muzzleloader in rain, snow or high humidity, you can tape the bore using electrical tape. This helps reduce the chance of moisture getting into your powder charge. Shoot straight.

I took a spent primer and knocked it apart and then filled the void with silicone caulk to make a snap cap to keep the powder sealed. Also, as someone else mentioned electrical tape over the muzzle will help seal the bore.

In Massachusetts for deer hunting, they allow muzzleloaders during shotgun season as well as the primitive firearms season. Then they allow archery hunting during all three seasons: archery, shotgun, and primitive. We can't use "airbows", as the regulations term it, for hunting deer.

I enjoy your posts a lot. I have been hunting for many years and this year due to component shortages everywhere I took up my muzzle loaders again. The difference is I learned to make my own powder and am having a lot of enjoyment from making and testing it. It's a whole lot easier than I thought it would be. Potassium nitrate supplies the oxygen, charcoal is the fuel and sulfur is the igniter. The potassium and sulfur I buy and I make willow charcoal. All an outdoors person like you might enjoy.

Great to see a younger person enjoying the outdoors. Hunting with a muzzleloader is more changeling than a center fire rifle. Not knocking your choice of rifle, but I'm more of a traditional hunter.
I hunt with a Thompson Center Renegade in 58 caliber. It kicks a little, but lots of fun. If you get a chance, try one of these old school rifles.

Then I clean the breech plug up about every 5. Thing drives tacs. I only do this because when I put the gun away I always clean it so I always want my first shot to be exactly the same.

Electric tape or balloons over the end of the barrel as mentioned will keep water out. Another trick I use is to put chap stick or bore butter around the breach plug to keep water out. A dab on each side of the barrel where it meets the stock by the breach helps keep it from running down that groove.

I own more t/c 's but i like the stupid cheap one because its nice to carry and it is insanely accurate. I am not brand locked. Not powder specific. Its fun to see all the different things that work. Out of my impact 150 gr. White hots and t/c shock waves almost clover leaf. My friend has a Traditions that shoots amazing . Cva bring some love to the table. enjoy watching your video's, here are a few tips. Either carry a condom, or balloons with you put them over your barrel when raining. you'll shoot right thru them. #2 learn to shoot from a seated position, elbow on knee. Less shit to carry into the woods, and less movement setting up to shoot. Seriously get rid of the cheater sticks. I instruct every gunshooter that I teach on how to shoot from the seated position, google it. But then I'm old and that's how I learned how to shoot. Also a Penna boy.

@@OutdoorsAllie ya but of course I use a stainless muzzleloader not a coated barrel or blued. I'd say its not good to leave it in them. I've had muzzleloader for over twenty years.

@@OutdoorsAllie ya I got mine off ebay I just set it up and you can sit no matter how hard it rains. Plus you can get the coat and bib overalls from cabelas and it's 100% water proof. I got caught in the rain one day without my tree umbrella and those kept me dry as can be. It's the Redhead brand they sell. And I can tell ya they are 100% waterproof. I love mine.

I always add a couple strips of electrical tape over the muzzle of my hunting rifles, including black powder. It does not change your point of impact at all. The air in front of the projectile blows off the tape long before the bullet gets to the muzzle. Water in the bore will change your point of impact. How far was the Doe?

When it’s raining I put a balloon over the muzzle of the barrel so the rain doesn’t get inside

Enjoying your hunting experiences around the country. Been shooting a flintlock ignition Pennsylvania Long Rifle, since the late 1970s and killed my first deer with one in Bedford County, PA. As you show, it is always important to fire caps or flash your pan on a flintlock but always after verifying the gun is unloaded by measuring the barrel to the breech with the ramrod. Someone might have mentioned this in the other 172 comments but always when loading/cleaning with a ramrod whether it fiberglass, composite, or wood hold your hands not at the end of the ramrod but closer to the muzzle. Use short strokes to slide it down, a little at a time, and pull it back out the same way.. Less chance of bending and breaking the ramrod/snapping it off in the barrel, or ramming a wooden one through the palm of your hand. (NRA/NMLRA Certified Blackpowder Instructor)

Here in Colorado we can use a .45 cal. for deer but we can not use saboted bullets.

Tip when leaving gun loaded, be careful taking it from warm to cold, you can get condensation build up.

Been regretting getting rid of my old muzzleloader. We just got a new after general season _traditional_ muzzleloader (no inlines, jacketed, or sabots; traditional percussion or flintlock ignition and all lead) only season here in Montana. Really looking forward to it this year. Another reason to get out there!
