This song was on the radio during my last car ride with my Dad. I was 27 and he was 61, and it was the winter of 1983-84. Every time I hear it, I think of that ride. The last time we had together just the two of us....

Early 80s Genesis is fantastic, and gets slept on too often. People who insist Genesis was only good in the Gabriel era irritate me nearly as much as people who insist Rush didn't exist after Moving Pictures.
I was just watching another channel, and learned that Phil Collins has been a child actor, played the piano, sang, and played the drums since he was 10. Professionally doing this since he was 10.
I can, their music in the 70s wasn't radio friendly, though I was listening to the albums non stop! Saw the 1977 tour, fantastic, Phil was just getting the hang of the lead singer role.

Phil Collins and Genesis recorded some of the best songs in history. My first concert was seeing Genesis in 1986 in Atlanta. I camped out for tickets.I wish I could go back to the 80s and live it over again.
First concert I ever went to was Genesis on Jan 10th 1984 Tacoma Dome. So fun. Although RUSH is my all time fav.(saw them 9 times) I loved seeing Genesis. Really great band!
I don't know why Phil is not appreciated - he was one of the strongest Drummers of his time! Plus a very good Musician and Singer! Asked how he got such a BIG drum sound he replied " I buy fuckin' BIG drums!!!" respect!
I love Phil's humor, must've been great to have the opportunity to meet him. I would love nothing more than to Shake his hand and say thank you. Not to forget about all the other guys that contributed to Genesis and Phil Collins Solo. I love them all equally.

Much as some classical composers and performers of their day were vastly under appreciated. History has a way of letting the cream rise. We must just enjoy the creative genius and let the critics wallow in their ignorance and self importance. (it is so fun to see the recent reaction videos becoming so popular seeing Phil Collins for the first time....in his later LIVE version of 'In the Air Tonight' they are blown away when he slyly jumps on the drums at the last second. Being coached as a young actor he knows how to use drama. He brought a lot more to Genesis than just great drums and a perfect voice)

Aw these guys were so young back then. Mike Rutherford could pass as a surfer Dead Head, and Tony a Hipster. Pretty awesome to see them at this point in their lives. I really appreciate the ingenuity of their creative output in their arrangements.
People tend to sleep on Phil Collins' drumming ability, because of his unique voice & great talent as songwriter. That being said, he's definitely a capable drummer. Ive seen him dual other drummers back in the early Genesis days. The man absolutely can hold his own on the sticks! Besides that, keeping time, while singing & drumming, isn't the easiest thing to pull off!

Aw these guys were so young back then. Mike Rutherford could pass as a surfer Dead Head, and Tony a Hipster. Pretty awesome to see them at this point in their lives. I really appreciate the ingenuity of their creative output in their arrangements.

People tend to sleep on Phil Collins' drumming ability, because of his unique voice & great talent as songwriter. That being said, he's definitely a capable drummer. Ive seen him dual other drummers back in the early Genesis days. The man absolutely can hold his own on the sticks! Besides that, keeping time, while singing & drumming, isn't the easiest thing to pull off!
