- Abacab from the disc with the same name.
Lyrics:
Look up on the wall, there on the floor,
Under the pillow, behind the door.
There's a crack in the mirror.
Somewhere there's a hole in a window pane.
Do you think I'm to blame?
Tell me, do you think I'm to blame?
(When we do it) you're never there.
(When you show it) just stop and stare.
(Abacab) he's in anywhere.
(Abacab)
If you're wrappin' up the world
'Cause you've taken someone else's girl,
When they turn on the pillow,
Even when they answer the telephone,
don't you think that by now...
Tell me, don't you think that by now.
(When we do it) you're never there.
When you show it) just stop and stare.
(Abacab) he's in anywhere.
(Abacab) doesn't really care.
Do you want it? You got it. Now you know.
Do you want it? You got it. Now you know.
It's an illusion. It's a game,
or reflection of somewone else's name.
When you wake in the morning,
Wake and find you're covered in cellophane,
Well, there's a hole in there somewhere.
Yeah, there's a hole in there somewhere.
Baby, there's a hole in there somewhere.
Now there's a hole in there somewhere.
(When we do it) you're never there.
(When you show it) you stop and stare.
(Abacab) he's in anywhere.
(Abacab)
This has to be THE definitive version of 'Abacab'. I never get tired of watching or listening to it, such energy and musicianship on display.
Absolutely amazing performance by Genesis.
Kinda partial to the 1981 version but this is TRE-mendous.
After 40 plus years, this song still amazes me. The enthusiasm, the skill, the Greatness of this band.
Love it, no smartphones recording. Just people enjoying the music
Even the concerts until about 2010 where a lot better for sound
You aint kidding. Why don’t you stay home and watch the video then. Not to mention that the price of admission doesn’t include the right to document the performance and distribution of same
So true. They don’t even look Pictures or watch the videos. They just acquire them.
yeah i saw one smoking a club and another reading something static written on a piece of paper. What a joke.
You can enjoy the music and also own a smartphone
If this jam doesn't pull at your soul. I got news, you my friend are already dead. When Collins finishes with the lyrics that's when the fun begins. And remember boys & girls 2 drummers are better. Enjoying
Yep🤣👍👍
Daryl and Mike shine on this track!
💃
L0ve !+
Couldn't agree with you more, I'm gonna miss them terribly
No wonder poor Phil Collins suffers from back problems - the physical effort in smacking those drums so hard and so precisely has taken its toll. The way he (and Chester) drive this piece along is absolutely stunning.
Abacab has always been my favorite Genesis song and this version brought me to tears. The instrumental is stunning.
One of the best live performances ever.
I've heard this song hundreds of times but it still knocks me out. Every. Damned. Time. This is a fantastic version, with the whole band firing on all cylinders. It is a thing of epic beauty.
and that Phil Collins fella playin drums backwards....
paulyabe um he’s left handed what do you mean backwards?
@@hpatss4966 was being silly
paulyabe oh you’re good mate

A real rock concert where the band just blows the crowd away with talent from another planet.
in was there!
It was full of passion. You won't find that now.
'Abacab' is a masterpiece. The musicians know it too. So happy to watch this music video, my favorite, Abacab. Genesis, one of the best in the biz. Love you Phil!
One of the greatest pieces of live musicianship ever committed to film. Sublime in every measurable way. Can’t think of any modern band anywhere that comes anywhere near this level. Awesome.
You're right, although, I'm sure there are bands out there who have a great chemistry and musicianship, it's just nobody knows of them, because nobody cares about that kinda music anymore. We're back to the Elvis days of faces with shadow writers.
Gotta agree with you there. Came here to write something similar.
All of them at their absolute peak.
Time is such a cruel thief.
Why thief?
@@yobabybubba Have you seen Phil lately? His health issues have aged him.
@@jodij6280 oh, no I haven't...thanks
happening to us all 🙂
Best version of Abacab......Phil you are a genius!
I give Chester full respect, he was right up there with Phil on the drumming skills, and not many brotha's were into rock and roll back then or even now! Great performance!
No wonder Phil Collins has physical problems now - he put his whole body into playing those drums. Thanks Phil - you really were the greatest rock drummer.
He's also left-handed. Most drummers are right-handed.
10% of the population is left handed…40% of pilots are left handed. Strangely as pilot and a drummer I drum right handed…we are special people. Though Phil is an absolutely amazing drummer…I couldn’t even get near his abilities!
That is Genesis. A REAL MASTERPIECE!
Sitting here in 2020 amazed at this performance. The final segment beginning at 6:25 gives me chills. The growing maelstrom of keys and rhythms to soaring reaches of Rutherford's solo.. magical...
Same👍
Literally just gave me chills too!
Rutherford was absolutely ON FIRE for the last couple of minutes. Epic.
I was there with my big brother....who had lost a bet with my Pa over who should come with me. He ended up being a total Genesis convert. He called a lot of their stuff “modern jazz”. I LOVE ABACAB live, fantastic. Happy days 💕
It all begins with the fans cheering, then notice the looks of Tony at 4:13 and Daryl at 4:16. Yes, we fans of Phil know exactly what is about to happen. They all turn their heads in the direction of our boy Phil as he heads over to his drum set to carry on his beyond epic performance. Then, he sits down and with a rapid drum fill kicks the pace of the song right up through the roof. We do not even realize how fortunate we are, and, perhaps spoiled. We sometimes never want him to leave his drum set, yet we could listen to his one of a kind voice non-stop. We all love this type of mixed feelings we constantly experience unconditionally, and we never want them to cease.
88BigEtrain I saw them live in Springfield, MA in 1986. I did not comprehend the full scope of what I was witnessing and the heart of their fame! I miss them so very much. I really miss them!
+Stephen Deac You were so blessed! I would pay a true fortune to see him during that time... Hopefully, he will visit our country during his planned world tour, after the back surgery and his miraculous recovery, so that I can get to see him at least once in my life. Of course, it would still be no 1986 above and beyond epic performance that you witnessed...
I hear you BigEtrain! I am looking forward to his future tours and pray that he will be remotely near Seattle/Vacouver BC!!! Good stuff coming! Cheers.
Fantastic piece that @AmericaFirst. So, so true. I fear music will never be this good again.
Genesis was magic! Those bands no longer exit. Thank goodness we this music video live. Carry on Phil, we love you.@@aroden
Mike Rutherford playing the hell out of that guitar, great job all!
Tim Root Mike doesnt get the credit and recognition he deserves imo cause he is one hell of a guitar player!!
Tim Root Orgasmic solo by Rutherford.
And bassist!
Knock-out solo by Rutherford propelled onwards by the unstoppable forces of Phil & Chester on drums. The pinnacle of rock music. Hard to see it ever surpassed.
Tony was/is a master on the keyboard. He was rockin' to the music himself.
Unbelievably tight. A flawless performance by the entire band. Phil's voice is so huge, powerful, and clean.Puts the modern yo-yo, hipster bands to shame.
I agree these guys were tight, they usually did well live. Another band, the Cars, of the same era were also near perfect live.
Love the beat to this song as it starts
After all these years! Still one of the best of all time!
Phil is a drummer and a brilliant singer......♥♥
One of the best rock shows i ever heard and see, Genesis, And rock is my life forever!
This song just blew my mind. One of my favorites of Genesis. It's just as good, if not better, when it's live.
One of their very best post Gabriel tracks. Brilliant live.
I have found myself back here to this song after a few other bands turned my head and it feels like home. This.band is everything and more
I reckon this is up there with the most unbelievable live performances I've ever seen. There must be 100,000 people in that audience or more! Banks just kills it on those ARP and Prophet keyboards, Rutherford has that wicked chainsaw guitar sound and Collins and Thompson smash it on the drums, it's just so good. That dude on bass just kicks arse too, he really propels the song along. Amazing how good they were/are as musicians.
+Mike Fitzpatrick (Liquid Audio) Bass player is Daryl Stuermer from Milwaukee, WI.
+Mike Fitzpatrick (Liquid Audio) There is a High Definition version of this, filmed in Sony HD, at the time. It was transferred to regular format. There is rumor there is a HD version of this going to be released. I have no sources, just random newsgroup posts. I would love to see this in its full (intended) glory. One of the best concerts of all time, for any band.
+Brian Peters Absolutely agreed, I would love to see this in HD so let's just hope the rumors are true!
I'm ashamed to say I've never seen this AND I love this song.
that is ok...... as long as you are happy.......:P
Shit, I love this..felling blessed and lucky to grow up in the 70's and on! The music was/is unreal!
I saw Genesis the last time they came through Denver and LOVED the show. These guys are an AMAZING band to watch and listen to. Phil Collins is a gifted genius when it come to the drums. This song proves it.
These guys in concert have a real kick to their music that doesn't come out in the studio.
To me, Rutherford's solo ranks among the all time greats because it wasn't scales or a circus act; it was instead a highly melodic and emotional statement that fit in with the song and the rest of the band not to mention the delivery of the sheer power of rock music.
I implore you to look at Steve Hackett (the guitarist who preceded Mike on guitar (because Mike started out on bass in Genesis)) and some of his solos. I think he was a better guitarist than Mike.
I agree - I've listened to that solo for 20 years and never get tired of it. Very intense, exciting & unique. And all magnificently punctuated by Collins & Thompson. This is one for the ages.
A Saucerful of Secrets he’s definitely a better guitarist no question, but mikes solos can be genius in there own special way
Sorry... I love them all but the solos should play Daryl on his Godin guitar, he is simply better
@sternenkind Daryl uses a lot of chorus.. that is why he is colder 😉
Probably my favourite track, seeing them soon at the O2, thank you Genesis for all the MUSIC
I was there. Miss those days of real music.
One of the greatest songs. Great solos by everyone...
A great demonstration by Tony Banks on how great a keyboard can make a song unique live
The maestro was the best on keyboards the and nothing has changed . He still in a league of his own .
@@cindycallis5487 No one rivals Tony. He doesn't get enough credit.
This is one heck of a good video..!!!!!!! I knew these guys were good, but this left me speechless. Everyone has a mini-solo as the song continues... Chester and Phil are tearing it up with the drums!!! And the ending is perfect!
Never realised til later how much of phenomenal voice Phil Collins had. I was such a Gabriel fan that I put Phil in a box and I did not let him out til years later in my head anyhow. And ontop of that I got to hear his phenomenal drumming at the time I seen him in Rochester NY. Cheers!
A measure faster than studio version! I love the faster pace!
This is great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.......................... Each one of them gets to do their own special part!!!!
Słyszałem tę piosenkę setki razy, ale wciąż mnie powala. To fantastyczna wersja, w której cała pasma działa na wszystkich 12 garach.
Simply amazing stuff, sheer brilliancy.
Listening to this Awesome band in 2021 and loving every second of this performance! Long live GENESIS!!
I often listen to this live version of Abacab, not just for the guitar, the song is a masterpiece, but Mike's performance is not to be forgotten.
Bloody hell. This rocked HARD. Bravo, gentlemen.
holy moly . those were the days
Collins and Thompson's dual drumming is absolutely amazing. This song is like a powerful train cruising on. It is an awesome thing to hear.
Outstanding performance of an iconic band with one of the best drummer of all times
One of The Best of Genesis song.
This is bloody amazing..........amazing bit of music!!.......Love it......♥
Ladies & Gentlemen The Men of GENESIS Are True Musicians, Phil Collins Is a Leading & Drummer MASTER!! I LOVE YOU, MR.COLLINS!!
Chester on the drums OH YEAAAA !!!
I was a sophomore back in '81 when this came out. Brings back great memories...TY for the upload!!!
Breathtaking..the greatest song ever played live..double octaves on an Arp Quadra.. in '87..
Back in the day , partyed to songs like this never had the bucks to go and see groups in concert , but the internet has brought the to me just amazing what can i say :[)
What a band. What a great tune. Genesis at their best.
Look at these musicians - a genius each and everyone of them!
Look at this crowd, how they are in this masterpiece of Rock
Look at this fabulous groove on the bass of Daryl 5:03 and the guitar-solo of Mike 6:20
Look at this unbelievable energy oh phil 5:22 (his hair) and 7:36
Look and watch it everyday from 0:00 - 8:27!!!!
I miss those days when not a single phone 🤳🏼 is held up to record. Such an incredible number of people there to enjoy a band at their musical peak! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼🎶
Edit: ...and yes, Phil's hair is outstanding! 😅
Awesome and powerful performance, love it!
Awesome mullet as well .Phil Collins at peak hair do
hE HAS SO MUCH CLASS AND ROCKS THE STADIUM.....
That was just a damn fine privilege to listen to.
Privilege to be there!
Awesome is an understatement really outstanding
What a powerful demostration of true artists !
Not my favourite song by them, but by far my favourite live performance of any song ever - I was there for it and live it just blew me away as a 16yo
the greatest rock musicians of all time
This is one tight machine!
Impressive.
Mike hammers the guitar home on this. The Abacab solo, then coming out of the solo, the music is so strong, intense and dark. Puts a person in another world.
One of the best mullets I've ever seen.
I'm not sure you can call it a mullet on a guy who was losing his hair. It's just long hair on a balding dude.
The last thing I was looking at was his hair.
Extraordinarios, genios de la musica, perduraran por siempre. !!! INOLVIDABLES !!!💜💙❤💛🧡
That ending is monumental
one of the best songs to listen to live
brilliant performance
So right. Them boys rocked
Anthony Banks at his best. What an inspiration for a keyboardist.
Love Tony! He doesn't get the recognition he deserves.
1:00 ... possibly the only tireless keyboardist to play real fifths instead of using a fifths preset !
I was lucky enough to be there, I was in the gantry right above the stage looking down on Phil & Chester. Did a security job, but stayed where I shouldn't have been :P.... oh well never got paid but OMG was it worth it WOW!
I was there on the last night, 4th July, Princes Trust show...Charles and Diana in the Royal Box. Fantastic show. Looking from the stage, I was to the left of the first speaker stack in the centre of the pitch.
I was at one of the July 1987 shows at Wembley ... I don't recall which one. I'd seen them a few days earlier at Roundhey Park in Leeds (it poured down with rain through most of the show). In a box somewhere I still have my black Invisible Touch t-shirt (which is probably too small for me now). Good stuff.
Like I already said, this song is a masterpiece! AND Phil and the boys are a legend!
I still miss them!
One of the greatest songs of all time by the greatest band hands down; Abacab; second home by the sea; los endos; etc: instrumental nectar of the gods. I’ve seen the live 4 times; once in a stadium with 75,000 people; no current musicians compare to the raw power and emotion of these songs. Taylor Swift can charge thousands for a ticket and sell out shows but there’s no comparison to the musical talent
My favorite band ever! You have great taste!
Mind exploding video. These men are so darn good... Plus two drum kits changes the song in so many ways! If you were in that crowd, you would have to be up on your feet. Love the ending.
I can listen to Abacab endlessly. But I love everything Genesis. But I fucking love Abacab
I'm with ya, nothing beats Abacab.
Fantastica, memorable versión en vivo de esta grandiosa canción, una auténtica joya !
This is absolutely fucking fantastic!
I think this song more than stands the test of time........♥
Absolutely outstanding musicianship. Take note of Tony during the Abacab instrumental when he's on the Quadra. Playing with his back to the rest of the band. When playing live is so reliant on visual queues, the band can't do this during Abacab.
Still kicks ass off all the bands around nowadays ,,, sorry kids you realy missed out on some cracking tunes back in the day
great live performance.........saw them in LA way back.........great song
Incredibile phil! Il finale...WOW]WWWWW]
Grande batterista
July 2 1987 what a day it was so good I went again the next day and did it all again
I was there too..
@@maggiesealtiel8649 me too
best live version of abacab this and the one on mama tour outstanding
Chester and Phil playing as one..incredible!
Abacab was my favorite song at early 80's, and Collins never stopped to writing new good ones, I go with the last romantic ones.. Paradise
1985-1988 were great times for Wembley. Live Aid in 1985. Queen in 86. Genesis in 87. MJ sold out 7 shows here during the bad tour in 87/88. Pink Floyd was also in 88. Great times!!
Sweet. What a lineup!
& Don't Forget The Great Sir Elton John!!
Phil Collins and Elton john are not on the same level. PLEASE!!!
@@umarkedreturn8776 In their own ways they are, Phil on drums and Elton on the piano. They're both considered the best.
This concert is by far my favorite one of Genesis. Man, they are on FIRE! Phil is giving 200% vocally and banging his hands off on those drums! I don’t know how he does this. His energy is off the charts during this whole concert. I seem to hear some syncopated time in there too-am I wrong? Watch the end of this concert Turn it on Again. Phil sings his heart out and drums at the end. Honestly, people don’t know how hard it is to sing like that and then go play during it. Unreal. Chester is a master at keeping pace with Phil. We didn’t realize at the time that we were witnessing a band that was the best ever. So fortunate to see them before they disbanded.
I think they were going to or coming from an episode of Miami Vice. Phil's mullet rocks. Great performance!
And it's glorious.
Timeless.......
greatest Abacab live version EVER!
Awesome song
Absolutely brilliant!
Hell yeah!! Always liked this song....it's even better in the live version!
amazing!!!!!!
