... I'd rather say: Try the WHOLE album - it's amazing song by song, no filler amongst them! How I wish music of that class ( like generally in the 80s / 90s ) would return..!
An outstanding opinion on the song. This is an epic school of music, dating from the 1970s - to tell an epic story throughout the song, a woven fabric of words and music, warp and weft, vocals and instrumentals
I love those late 70's and early 80's songs! It brings me a lot of memories from my childhood. Genesis, Yes, Queen, The Police, Phil Collins solo, Peter Gabriel, Kate Bush and so on..
Love it. Scary it was. Mean album Mama and namepiece Mama. I was something like twelve at the time. Mama was beautiful and creepy. Home By The Sea was nice but long for me then. It has became more important later years for me.
Dude, this is just a music video that was shown on TV. You are listening to the studio recording. Chester and Daryll weren’t actually playing on the recording.
Es una bella cancion de cuna....q le eriza los pelos al mas dificil de roer ...la capacidad interpretativa de Phill te saca de aqui para llevarte hasta alla....al pais de los sueños..
What a brilliant song home by the sea brings back memories as a kid growing up in the 1980s era i wouldnt change it for anything thank you phill colins
Both Songs ( Home By The Sea and Second Home By The Sea) are one of the best demostrations of the Great 80's era, the right sounds and the nicely voice from Phil Collins are the perfection from Genesis!!!

By far one of the best songs Genesis ever wrote alongside Land Of Confusion Abacab I Can't Dance Jesus He Knows Me Follow You, Follow Me Mama That's All No Son Of Mine Throwing It All Away In Too Deep Turn It On Again Hold On My Heart and also Invisible Touch
With this song I felt in love with Genesis... that was many years ago. The discussion of what period is better, doesn´t make any sense. My favourite band of all times. Greetings from Argentina.
In 1983 when this was released, the song was fantastic, but also the lighting rig used for the tour (and this video) was technologically advanced. "Computer controlled" was on the bleeding edge when you consider 8/16megabites of RAM being available! Stunning song that stands the decades of time. Classic.
Brings back memories as a kid, lying in bed with my Walkman and headphones, trying to sleep in the end of the day heat, in the summer as the sun was setting, window open listening to the waves crash on the sand with the ocean breeze blowing in the window. One of my all time favourite happy childhood memories. Listening to this extended version always brings back this happiness. It never fails.
Saw this show at Birmingham, UK in 1984. First time with the full Varilights - astonishing; never seen anything like it, and the sound balance was the best I'd ever heard - before or since. A real privilege.
As a teenager I saw Genesis at Old Trafford in 2007. Had never heard them before, I remember really being struck by this song. I've enjoyed their music ever since.
My introduction to Western music was through this song. My dad had a cassette, and on side b was Genesis. This song blew me away, especially the keyboard riff in the 'sit down' portion. I used to rewind that small part over and over again. 😅

I first encountered Genisis back in the invisible touch days, 85 I think? I have that album on tape! And so my more on vinyl. We got to see them a few months ago, Phil looked a shadow of his shining glory, I only hope he is well soon x
February 2020. This song reminds me of my times of early teenagehood when I was not aware that I was witnessing THE GOLDEN AGE of music. Now in my forties, I realize how fortunate I was for having enjoyed those bands at their greatest.
As a young girl, I used to love this song, then rediscovered it one day. This is an absolute masterpiece- one of this fabulous band’s most brilliant songs. Incredible suite! In particular, Second Home by the Sea moves me today, as much as it did when I was a fourteen year old boy growing up in Japan. As a young kid listening to this, I realized music was much deeper than I had assumed. This is art! Huge respect to Genesis!
Mi tema favorito nunca dejo de escucharlo mas cuando estoy en la playa, que recuerdos de mi adolescencia 1983, hoy con mis 49 años lo sigo escuchando....
Saw genesis last night in Leeds love Phils voice and his son on the drums was just fantastic im so happy I finally got to see them my dads a huge fan and we always had it on when I was a kid ❤
Hearing this for the first time Feb 2024, absolute masterpiece, wish I had been in the audience
Try "MAMA" on the same album!✌

Amazing song still in 2023. So glad to have experienced Phil Collins and Genesis in my lifetime. Thank you guys. ❤
Inolvidable cancion de genesis ¡¡¡ que bien sonaba!!!!❤❤❤❤❤
Tony banks was the brains behind genesis
I know
Only after Peter and Steve have left.
Such an underrated song. Too smart for masses. So unique!
This is why I get frustrated when people dismiss 80s Genesis. This song would have been a highlight on any album they ever made.
Hands down my favourite Genesis song, hard to imagine I have been enjoying this for nearly 37 years and still continue to do so...
Same here since my childhood!
yep me as well
❤
Que música maravilhosa amoooooooo
Yep, and mine particularly second home by the sea.
This is not a song. This is an opus. And this is a masterpiece!
An outstanding opinion on the song. This is an epic school of music, dating from the 1970s - to tell an epic story throughout the song, a woven fabric of words and music, warp and weft, vocals and instrumentals
Ha ha ha Superb comment 🤣 An Opus it is indeed and a masterpiece even to this day in 2023

I love those late 70's and early 80's songs! It brings me a lot of memories from my childhood. Genesis, Yes, Queen, The Police, Phil Collins solo, Peter Gabriel, Kate Bush and so on..
All genius musicians in their own rights. Together, pure magic.
Phil Collins is literally god
Magnifique
The vocal here is just incredible.
To still be listening to this song in 2022. And still feeling so many emotions.
What a masterpiece.
In music time never fades.

Genesis forever ❤️❤️❤️
And i am 63 years old.Nearly 50 years I hear his music
"dreaming of the time we were free...". Catched me in these times today...
How the hell can they perform live just the same as the studio record! Even the vocals! Bravissimo!!!
It actually is the studio track. This is not live, they are just lip-synching and pretending to play. There is even no audience.
@@AnssiRai I myself prefer them lip-synching and pretending to play rather than having them doing it live.
Dude, this is just a music video that was shown on TV. You are listening to the studio recording. Chester and Daryll weren’t actually playing on the recording.
A band at their absolute peak. Such an epic, moving piece of music ♥️
you just know this is best ever
I'm addicted to this song. It's so catchy, so cool, so... perfect!
Coincido. Es una obra maestra. Adicto a HBTS.

The Best Rock Song ever made. The combination between drums and guitar is unthinkable out of the world. The music just blows out the mind out of gear.
Nice comment.
Makes the same to me !

@Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow 1977 Even far not the best from Genesis. Tastes are different, but quality can be measured.

Sure. Phil is one of the best singers ever. Amazing. Genesis forever...

Unbelievable how there is absolutely no difference in Phil’s performance between studio and live. Legend.
This isn’t live
the video is a live performance, the audio is studio
@@poptartdrumstudios7600 What’s your evidence for that? Just because they are on a stage doesn’t mean they aren’t miming to a backing track.
All my Life ( 42yrs) i love his voice..i danced , laughed, loved and cried to it
I've been so lucky I could see them live in Milan, Italy, in 1987, during the Invisible Touch tour: one of the greatest music moments of all my life!!

Lyrics:
Creeping up the blind side
Shinning up the wall
Stealing through the dark of night
Climbing through a window
Stepping to the floor
Checking to the left and the right
Picking up the pieces
Putting them away
Something doesn't feel quite right
Help me someone, let me out of here
Then out of the dark was suddenly heard
Welcome to the home by the sea
Coming out of the woodwork
Through the open door
Pushing from above and below
Shadows but no substance
In the shape of men
Round and down and sideways they go
Adrift without direction
Eyes that hold despair
Then as one they sign and they moan
Help us someone, let us out of here
Living here so long, undisturbed
Dreaming of the time we were free
So many years ago
Before the time when we first heard
Welcome to the home by the sea
Sit down, sit down, sit down
Sit, down, sit down
As we relive our lives
In what we tell you
Images of sorrow, pictures of delight
Things that go to make up a life
Endless days of summer
Longer nights of gloom
Waiting for the morning light
Scenes of unimportance
Photos in a frame
Things that go to make up a life
Help us someone, let us out of here
'Cause living here so long undisturbed
Dreaming of the time we were free
So many years ago
Before the time when we first heard
Welcome to the home by the sea
Let us relive our lives
In what we tell you
Sit down, sit down, sit down
'Cause you won't get away
No, with us you will stay
For the rest of your days, sit down
As we relive our lives
In what we tell you
Let us relive our lives
In what we tell you
Wonderful.
👍✌️
I think this was the best they did in the 80's after Duke. It's pretty amazing . I love it.

What a group of musicians these guys were. Off the charts good with Banks threading the keyboard line right between Mike and Daryl.
