That's amazing. yeah exactly.
When my daughter was at school she was given some English homework to write a ghost story. She was struggling and came to me for some help. I used the inspiration of the Home(s) by the sea and showed what I meant by writing the story of the abandoned haunted home (by the sea) that a burglar broke into and was attacked by the ghosts. The cheeky little thing handed it in - apparently I got an A+ 😊 Can hardly wait for next week...
When I taught creative writing, I used the song as a basis.
That’s awesome! Now, if she has a similar writing assignment in a couple of years, she should do this again. But this time instead of typing it, she should sing it, top volume! Blow the teacher, and class away!

I was born in 82. I have such vivid memories of my mom blasting this album on the stereo when i was a kid. It is amazing. I still get it in my head now as a 40 yr old. This is true art in music and we all know it doesn't happen anymore these days... or you gotta really look for it

The Hooters played my at my high school in 87. A shame I was in 8th grade at the time.
My ex (and son’s father) was babysat by the drummer of the Hooters’ girlfriend when he was little. We’re from Philly obviously. It was a pretty cool brag at the time 😂 man time flies!

One of my top 5 favorite Genesis songs and definately in the top 100 all time for me. 😊
Lyrically, the song is about a burglar who breaks into a house only to find it is haunted. The burglar is captured by the ghosts, who force him to listen to their stories for the rest of his life.
The song is about Alcatraz island. Dreaming of the time we were free. Listen to it again my friend.

I drove some of my family peeps near crazy with this one. The volume control on my hi-fi would mysteriously creep up and the sounds from my bedroom become nothing but this track much to the annoyance of anyone else who was for that 12 mins or so trying to talk or listen to other things elsewhere in house.. Always a favourite of mine from when I first heard it as an 8-10 year old til now... Thanks for posting this masterpiece. To me this track is simply amazing 😊

❤️❤️ never knew I loved this song until I saw Genesis in concert this year. I would like to wish Phil Colins all the health in the world. His son was incredible, but I couldn’t help but feel sad or that it was bittersweet- phil seemed to have an ailment. See them in concert while you can. Only thing I wished was that Phil’s personal music along with Peter Gabriel’s were included. I missed some great shows due to my age and would have loved all of Phil’s music through the years in one show. Thank you for your time and performance - I wish I went sooner.

He suffers from debilitating arthritis. He’s resigned to it sadly and he can no longer affectively drum like he used to to. His son has definitely inherited his fathers musical talent ❤️🎼🎹
You can still hear Genesis' progressive rock roots well into the 80's.
You're right, but it almost always comes from Tony Banks. He was really the last progger left standing in Genesis. Mike and Phil's tastes were quite different.

58 haven't listened to this album since 1983. I remember driving to South Lake Tahoe with my best friend and her boyfriend. 911 Red Porsche in the back. Snow, Goldschläger, great friends and memories we only share. No pictures. Take me back....

This is the first album that introduced me to rock / prog when I was about 6-7. I picked it out of my dads CD collection because of the cover art. Best decision I ever made.

I think the final part doesn't even need saying. Modern "music" is absolute dross.
Just look at the lyrics for this song and the amount of creative and poetic effort that went into them and then look at the lyrics of anything released in the las 5 years.
Its the different between actual artists creating art through expression and a product thats manufactured with minimum input for the lowest common denominator.
There has been dross music in all decades.

I was given my parents old records too. From Grateful Dead to Roberta Flack. All in excellent condition. It’s the best feeling to see my 3yr old granddaughter dance and request old songs. This is one.
