There are certain 80’s songs that give me an overwhelmingly painful and bittersweet sense of nostalgia. This is definitely one of them.
That's something I can relate to, not necessarily for the 80s as I wasn't born, but for significant times that' passed and the music that came with it. Quite astutely put 👌
Amen...
Yep, I just started crying when it came on the car ràdio
It tastes so sweet and it hurts a little.
This song always gets me teared up.
I love the comments here. I don’t feel so out of touch while I’m here reading them all.
We all miss the old days bud.
You're not alone.👍
My husband passed a few months ago...talk about feeling alone! 😢
@@judyduncan5813 I'm really sorry for your loss. I hope you have a loving family and friends to lean on. Remember he's not really gone. I believe we're just parted from our loved one's for a while. We make the most of the time we have with the people we love in life, then we all go home the same way at the end of our lives and reunite.❤🩹
That Mr robot scene burning the money with this song in the ambient. Just blow my mind
I've always been a Phil Collins fan, and I only JUST started watching Mr. Robot. But I know EXACTLY what seen you're talking about.
Same! ^^^
Yes true a very intense one
Sensacional, acabei de assistir a cena
Incredible scene.
At 54 now, very few songs pierce the soul like this one does. Reflecting on my life now, it all makes such perfect sense…
62 here, and I couldn’t agree more!
One of THE Best 80'sAlbum of All time. Still listening to Phil's hits in 2024!
The first album I bought.
Seriously why can’t we produce this kind of music anymore.. that’s shows back in the days we had intelligent music composers n singers
@James Smith yup true .. sort like that
Just like everything else today, it is mass produced with a formula. It of course doesn't have magic to it that music used to.
Volume wars ruined production quality Phil’s drums sound massssive because they had head room
This is maybe stupid, but the spinning record - instead of a CD or nothing at all - is incredibly comforting to this child of the original vinyl era. I adore this song.
I like seeing the record spin too
Yeah. I never noticed. It has a hipnotic effect. Relaxing
Right?! I noticed that too. Makes me laugh imagining a zoomers version of this- swapping the spinning record out for a never ending list of 0’s and 1’s
yeah, except the reflection of the light shouldn't be rotating with the vinyl, unless the light is orbiting the vinyl in some weird way...
I'm fun at parties...
Nothing stupid about it - I was just remiscing about the sheer joy of going to the record store, holding the actual record in hour hands, reading the liner notes... I feel sorry for kids today, they will never know
This should be the song that is played when Phil is laid to rest to be with Him.
Amen.
Quite possibly, the most beautiful song ever created! 80's music will always be the best!!👍

This is an era when songs had real melody and meaning
until K-pop and Modern Music with a lot of swearing words ruined it but some will still listen to these old but good music even in de present
@@Justin_0241 this is what people call" real music"
No swearing, no perversion, just a man coming out with a bittersweet Melody.
I miss those days, and the music that came with them…
Sting and Peter Gabriel on back-up vocals! I was 10 yrs old when this came out in the US, and to this day it still gives me goose bumps and inspiration when listening to it! Just fired up the turntable going to give the record a go! Bravo Phil

This song played through my head as my dog passed away last night. May the God of Peace grant me strength through this time of loss. Rest in Peace Pablo, you will be forever missed. I love you.
So honest your feelings...i know that pain
You'll see him again
I'm so sorry 😢
My condolences my friend
@@Jules-kp7rw how would you know?
Can you state that as a fact?
Have you been dead?
Have you ever loved even?
W⚓️
I hope one realizes how much pain he was in writing this. “Home” is heaven, and he’s begging to go there. I beg the lord daily for this, as I hate, hate, hate my life with every single inch of me.
Same
If you say so. Hate won't make it better; only love does that.
I'm a few inches away from that myself and searching for the light it's within us it's not outside of us
Great song about letting go. Always come here when I need to remember that going home is harder to do the older you get. You have to find peace in this world.
Much love to you all.
❤
Amen❤
This is the song that I felt Phil wrote for me. I can't help but cry whenever I listen to it. Thank you Phil!
I get you Richard i feel this song was written for my father, it always makes me cry❤
Phil Collins & Genesis have many songs like that for me ❤️
“There’s a fire that’s been burning right outside my door. I can’t see, but I feel it, and it help to keep me warm. So, I don’t mind.”
That line follows this one, “They don’t tell me nothing, so I find out all I can.”
To me, it almost seems like Phil is describing the mental anguish one might go through when they feel excluded, and isolated. It almost sounds like someone soothing themselves through an anxiety attack. “I can’t come out to find you. I don’t like to go outside.” It sounds like someone who is uncomfortable around people. “They can turn off my feelings like they’re turning off the light.”
Every line of this song rings so true to me. “Seems so long I’ve been waiting… still don’t know what for…” I’m 50 years old, and I still don’t know what I’m waiting for… so, I don’t worry anymore. ☺️
And for my father as well

It's impossible to put into words the overwhelming feeling of triumph and fulfillment this song elicits. Like the beginning of a great new chapter in life, or the eventual ending and getting over of something bad.

Phil Collins is one of the most talented musicians to ever live.
I had no idea he was talking about someone with Alzheimer's.....in a way it brings tears my eyes when i was told this because ive been around many who had this disease.......and they would often say this. I have a huge amount love for phil...........❤
So amazing Phil Collins is. I've been deaf in my left ear for the past 2 years. Got one more month and I should get my hearing back in it. This will be in queue and ready to play.
Don’t take this the wrong way please. I t just made me laugh that the first comment I saw on here was a deaf person saying they love Phil Collins. His haters would have a field day with that 😂
Hope everything went well 🙂
Get them headphones on and wallow in the luxury of this song !!Good luck with your hearing !!
I hope all is well now
So how did you recover ?
Love this song...But It gives me an eerily unfamiliar brand of sadness and emptyness...as if I was in a place millions of miles away from my home, my sanctuary, my family, my fiancee.... Powerful stuff, Phil ❤️

Great song. One of Phil's best.
I like the guitar riff that kicks in at the beginning of the second verse
@@kenrutherford1109 phil's longtime guitarist, the talented Daryl Stuermer.
Yes it is
Don't matter when this song was produced. This song will live in infamy.
Backing Vocals: Sting, Gabriel and Helen Terry
Wow! I can't believe I never noticed Gabriel's prominence on the "Take, take me home" lines. It's like it's part of one of his songs. For that matter, I can't believe I've never noticed this fact in the liner notes of the album, or even remembered learning about it. I've been a Genesis/Collins/Gabriel freak for decades. Again, wow!
Just read it in Phil's biography and came here to listen, carefully... and enjoy!! 😍But Who could guess just by listening ? 😉
came here to post this. What a session that must've been.
Thanks so much for the info, I never knew! I think it's so cool and humble when these big artists do backing vocals for others... also a testament of friendship
How I miss those simpler, happier times... Stay safe and strong in 2021, everyone!

Peter Gabriel and Sting on the chorus.
Sting is low key a secret ingredient in a lot of ‘80s songs that elevates songs.

"Don't Lose My Number" is a good one too
Take that look of worry
I'm an ordinary man
They don't tell me nothin'
So I find out all I can
There's a fire that's been burnin'
Right outside my door
I can't see but I feel it
And it helps to keep me warm
So I, I don't mind
No I, I don't mind
Seems so long I've been waitin'
Still don't know what for
There's no point escaping
I don't worry anymore
I can't come out to find you
I don't like to go outside
They can turn off my feelings
Like they're turnin' off the light
But I, I don't mind
No I, I don't mind
Oh I, I don't mind
No I, I don't mind
So take, take me home ('cause I don't remember)
Take, take me home ('cause I don't remember)
Take, take me home
Oh, Lord
'Cause I've been a prisoner all my life
And I can say to you
Take that look of worry
Mine's an ordinary life
Working when it's daylight
And sleeping when it's night
I've got no far horizons
I don't wish upon a star
They don't think that I listen
Oh, but I know who they are
And I, I don't mind
No I, I don't mind
Oh I, I don't mind
No I, I don't mind
So take, take me home ('cause I don't remember)
Take, take me home ('cause I don't remember)
Take, take me home ('cause I don't remember)
Take, take me home
Oh, Lord
Well, I've been a prisoner all my life
And I can say to you
But I don't remember
Take, take me home ('cause I don't remember)
Take, take me home ('cause I don't remember)
Take, take me home ('cause I don't remember)
Take, take me home ('cause I don't remember)
Take, take me home ('cause I don't remember)
Take, take me home ('cause I don't remember)
Take, take me home ('cause I don't remember)
Take, take me home ('cause I don't remember)
Take, take me home
This song is incredibly sad.
It's about someone who is stuck at a Hospital because they have a Mental Illness, but they feel normal.
Probably my favorite tune of all time..... I'm a metalhead too and this is just pure Devine magic
We all need to check on this man more often.
Like many of Collin’s’ songs, they have beautiful melodies and are very emotional, too much so for me at times. Not sure why, but they are.
Phil Collins on this beat is exactly why he was a perfect fit on the Tarzan soundtrack. Iconic.
if any one artist defined the 80s it was this man. listening 40 years on and he still hits the same spots.

the chorus has been one of my most primordial, earliest memories of music. I remember being in the backseat of our car and being completely enraptured with that vocal melody. that enrapturement has stayed with me all of these years. absolutely legendary tune.

I agree to a certain extent....but Prince was pretty bad ass too
@@ericfeick4270 I do love Prince, but he never achieved the non stop succes as a solo artist and at the same time being part of a band. I’d strongly suggest looking up the RUclips video: The Genesis of Phil Collins | Tribute | Professor of Rock.
@@evr9055 true but that’s if you don’t count the three bands he was writing all the music and recording it all for as well as selling songs to others and him being a bit too impulsive for that to work out for him. Prince and Phil are in my opinion the two most talented musicians to live in our contemporary age. Both are better than Mozart if you ask me in terms of ability.

Such an amazing song that evokes so much emotion, a hallmark of Phil’s musical writing style. Grew up with it and it never gets old. In doing a little research, in a VH1 interview back in the day, Phil said that the inspiration of the song was actually “One Flew Over The Cuckoos Nest”. I had always thought it was a song about the workaday man - which still kinda fits the lyrics - but hearing the mental institution angle sheds a whole other light on the song. Perhaps we all live in prisons or institutions of one sort or another and we all wish to go back “home” even if it’s little more than a conjuring of our own imagination. Yet another great song brought to you by “deep thought’s with Uncle Phil.”
