This is how a music video is done. With humor, relevance to the lyrics. And a great beat.
…I agree…and so entertaining without being vulgar!!
Phil really laid down the funk on this one
nice
There's something I love about the irony of belting out the line "I can't sing" perfectly
I agree, cheers from Cologne 😀🍷🍷🎉🇩🇪
If Phil Collins is retiring this year, like the news says, he's a legend and I'm glad that we had the chance to hear him throughout all of his different musical styles.
Agree because just like other musicians he makes music and songs that reaches out to you.
Ahmen to both my fellow fans. Rock on. But damnnnn i miss Neil Peart 😣
Gotta love the brits' tongue in cheek humor! Phil's definitely strong with his love of Motown too especially!
even if it weren't true, he's still a legend
@@texasgonzo67 I miss entwistle
Who’s still listening in 2085?
I think people overlook that these guys had a great sense of humor. While they were amazingly talented musicians they had fun with it all. This is a rocking tune, but at it's heart....it's comic relief.Same with Jesus He Loves Me. I love this band.I get the feeling people want 'prog' musicians to be serious.I think silly is good sometimes.
Right? God forbid these guys have a little fun while doing their jobs.
@joseph humphrey, I always thought that Mike Rutherford had a better humor than Phil in their Genesis videos, but it was Collins who got film roles and not Mike.
yeah the making fun of michael at the end is epic.
I can't stand seeing 478 haters of this video though which isn't epic @@konijntjesbroek
@@konijntjesbroek I am assuming making fun of Michael Jackson? As I was 1 year old when this music video was made.
Ah genesis: the only place that has the video, the documentary of making the video and the bloopers of making the video; all within the same video...
What a band
Vlad Tepes amen
Let's not forget the freaking Michael Jackson parody as well
Love IT❤
White chicken out of no where...😜
I know that Phil Collins wasn't happy after he made this song and the band split up after this album but man oh man do I love this song
What's the story? I like most of the songs on "We Can't Dance".
It's such a catchy tune it was stuck in my head for awhile
Kick ass song with a great sense of humor and style. Genesis at it's best and most unexpected!
Worst genesis song ever
@@MrEnsiferum77 😂😂😂
*its
@@rp8164 don't you have anything else better to do than be a grammar nazi?
@@mobilerds490 while this song doesn't fit their style, it's still an unexpected and fun classic. It was like they were mocking themselves for not being hip.
People don’t realize that when this song came out it was a huge deal. It had taken over the planet
I member. This song was the reason me and my best friend where kicked out of boy scouts.
That was like THE HIT of the year
People don’t realize that when this song came out it was a huge headache. It had literally taken over peoples heads
The guitar work in the song is awesome

Great mix of Mtv Videos
I saw Genesis at the Phillipshalle Düsseldorf in 1976…….a total delight…..genuine British eccentricity….
Phil Collins, what a legend he is. What a legendary band.
Amen !!!
Brings me back to being 10 years old at boy Scout camp. They had stereos and this song was being played at least 5 times in 8 hours in those days. Time flies so fast.....
figured "The Turtles" with "So Happy Together" would have been more popular in camp.
It was when I was young.
@@xenxander Oh that was a popular one as well.... But this song seemed to be everywhere for like two years straight lol.
Leo sayer
This song was particularly popular during the spring and summer of 1992, as I recall! Heard it a lot.
When I was in the Girl Scouts we blasted either New Kids On The Block or The Beach Boys.
As a youngster in the 80s you would hear Genesis or Phil Collins himself on the radio everywhere with so many great songs. He has such a unique voice. So very talented. It's like everything he touched was gold back then.
Still is
Both him and Peter Gabriel have such incredibly unique voices and are truly a couple of our Generations best singers!
Why’re you talking the 80s on the music video for a song from a 1991 album? Like with your wording, you make it sound as if this song is from the 80s lmaoo 😂😂 But you still do bring up a good point. His voice is simply fantastic!
Totally!
@@upperkayceto be fair the 80s had such an impact that the 90s didn't actually start until '93 or early '94
love his humor. he can make fun of himself, and not many can do that. the source of all humor
love the English sense of humour.
Phil Collins is a sick drummer. The beat on this song grabs at the VERY last moment, and its insane.
the ending was a michael jackson reference
Once considered the Best drummer in the world.😎☝👌👍😨
Collins is up there with bruford for me, I feel a lot of people overlook how great a drummer he can be. Check out Brand X, a jazz-fusion band he was in during the 70's.
@@johnnyhall2528 Haha best drummer in the world? You for real? Not even close. Good joke though
Yeah still not sure how the beat on this song grabs at the VERY last moment, and that it's apparently insane. Seems sorta like a straightforward click-track to me - I must be missing something.
Probably my favorite song ever. Who's still here 2021¿
This is an absolute classic. This makes me think of my life growing up in the 80s-90s.

Absolutely! Please never forget great music!!! 🤙
Was wonderful.
Yes 🙌 ❤❤
Same here, Genesis was my mum's fav band and she was always listening to it...............
I was fortunate enough to see Genesis in concert they were fantastic.
Your old like me lol. Sorry
😅
Lucky man
No offense, but I would have killed to see them live!
Ditto
Man I wish I can go bk to those days.
Me too
Phil Collins is a bloody legend, simple as that, he's better than a lot of bullshint artists today
Saif Hasan He’s quite the drummer Nursery Cryme is the first Album Phil is featured on with Genesis. He was more of the drummer but sang back up to Peter Gabriel then.
And all of his songs were different with a lot a variety but all of them still were great
Why south park named Phil Collins hill after him lol
One of the GOATS. Phil Collins is a legend
Still the one of the best from when music was actually enjoyable to listen to!
Just saw Genesis yesterday Phil had a cane and he didn't spend a minute out of his chair but his son stood up and did the walk.
My Late Dad Loved This Song 👍
No Son of Mine made up for it, if only for its power.
This makes me miss old school MTV
True!!!
I unironically love this song. That little flexatone "boink" makes me stupidly happy.
❤ agreed
Роки дуже швидко......
Crazy to think this is the same guy that gave us the Tarzan soundtrack, that sick drum fill in “in the air tonight”, plus the song it’s self is pretty good, the greatest cover of the “can’t hurry love” by the supremes ever made, and of course, his best work: genesis. Phil Collins has so much range that if he made a metal band or started a rap career in 2022 and it was amazing none of us would be surprised
❤
I disagree with the cover
Кстати , ФИЛ КОЛЛИНЗ СЛУШАЛ , РЕПЕРОВ И СМЕХ ДЛЯ ПЕСНИ МАМА ОН КАК РАЗ ИЗ РЕПА ВЗЯЛ.
Hahahaha. I love the dance part at the end. That is by far the most hilarious Michael Jackson parody I have ever seen.
It's an homage, not a parody lol [=8
@@Jedidiah_Martin_2 It's a fine line......

Yes it does, but it ages like a fine wine :^D
Nope
Don't know of any other song that celebrates just never getting it right. Fun, fun song!
Just rewatched this for the first time in DECADES (sad to say!😅) and I’m laughing out loud! That Michael Jackson bit at the end!!🤣 These guys were brilliant!
From black or white
The behind the scenes is priceless. Golden
"The perfect body, with a perfect face"
Truly, Phil Collins was THE prime example of peak male performance back in those days.
you may not like it, but this is what peak performance looks like
Von Ithipathachai amen
Phil Collins he was a very funny guy
his gestures and the bad luck he had in all the scenes killed me with laughter hahahahaha XD
He rocks that receding hairline.
I just discovered this song in 2024 I love it. What year did this come out? I've never even heard of these guys.
3:15 The superstructure back beat on 3 (in a sense a back beat to the back beat on 2 and 4) is perfect.
Love it and so does my little grandson! What can I say, the kid has taste, he's only 4 😊😊

This is such a fantastic song by genesis
Brilliant song and music video 📹
This song was released back in Christmas '91
December 30th 1991
However I think that this song was officially released in January '92
Hold on my heart was also released by genesis in spring of '92
April 6th 1992
I was born in 1985 and I love this song. I remember seeing it in the early 90's on TV! It was definitely a jam then and it still slaps now!
This classic 💅 💃🏻 ❤

When 80s nostalgia kicks in heavy as heck....
This is the first song I have a memory of.
Fun...Good sounds
Saw them in Charlotte last weekend and they did this song as an encore and Phill has still got it 👍
He really does
I was there as well I couldn't be more grateful to see them live

So lucky!!!! My first was Cinderella, Faster Pussycat, Poison and Winger!!! 🤣🤣🤣
That single eyebrow raise was truly iconic 😜
Ain’t that there truth. I came to watch this video just for the eyebrow raise.
Before The Rock, there was Genesis.
I love how the two analytic peaks for engagement in this video are the start and the moment with Phil's eyebrow raise.
I have had this song stuck in the back of my head since I was five.
I remember this as a kid. I still love the way they walk across the screen. 😂😂
Can't get better than Genesis. They have it all. There will never be anyone like them. They will always be true, unique musicians. U go Genesis. Keep doing what u are doing!!!😅😉
Genesis is no longer a band.
Josh Johnson You dont keep up with music do you? Phil Collins is finishing up the "not dead yet" tour. 2019 he is touring with his genesis band. Couple of new songs have already been recorded .
OML That Guy yes I do keep up with music. Phil Collins left Genesis in March 1996 to focus on his solo career. He formed the Phil Collins Big Band with himself on the drums. The band performed six jazz renditions of songs Genesis and his solo career. His sixth solo album Dance into the Light was released in October 1996. Now Phil Collins due to the fact a lot of people thought he was dead rejoined with Genesis and is now doing a tour for old times sake.
Jocelynn West wow a female genesis fan..... now that's unique hahaha ur a cool chick my dear
From the Prog Rock days to the pop and have both be good and interesting to listen to. Legends.
How the bleep does this only have 93k likes on over 9 mill views? This song is amazing. Such a great band.
I am 42 and remember where I was when I 1st heard this masterpiece...
Genesis was one of the best bands of all times. Phil Collins was one of the hugest entertainers of all time. Went to a few of his concerts I raised my kids on Genesis and Phil Collins. Including all genres of music. To this day if a Phil Collins song comes on the whole family sings along. Thank you, and please keep pushing your music forward the youth today needs great music again.!!!!!!!!!!🎼🎵💕
Never watched this video but the bar scene is hilarious. 80's gold right here on all fronts.
I just love the humor and music combined in this great song. Great talent.

This god damn song always takes me back to when I was 5, my parents wouldn't divorce for 3 more years.
I had a my portable GE tape player/recorder with built in radio, and a cassette with this song on it, and I would just jam out rewind, and jam out again.

Literally one of Genesis' most signature tracks, and one that makes the album stand out so much, and glad it's in this order, with the other 4 iconic tracks on top of it. So iconic, and catchy, a track that'll get stuck in your head for years to come, and I can honestly say this. Truly one of a kind Genesis and Phil is. Legends.
I don`t know what i like more, the funny video clip or the epic guitar riff...

What a bunch of musical genius's. Young punk spilling beer on my shoesFat guy talking to me trying to steal my blues.
I remember seeing this on Nickelodeon (they had a show back in the day with the biggest hits of the week) when I was six and I cracked up.
Jennifer Clark was it Nick Rocks?
I was just thinking of that! My grandmother was actually a huge Phil Collins growing up, despite her age, so I was always familiar with his music
That must be where I watched it too when I was little. I was 6 when this video came out also.
I remember Nick Rocks, came on right before You can't do that on television and Dangermouse.

Definitely one of THE BEST SONGS.
tbh, Genesis was not only good in making music, the videos were really good too
This is one of the best AC/DC songs that AC/DC never played.
I do get a little Bon Scott feel from Phil in this song

Wow. What a nostalgia blast. I was just sitting around playing video games and the chorus of this song popped into my head for no reason. I had to come listen to it. Not disappointed.
I was nine years old when I first heard this song and thought it was hotter than the sun.
Phil Collins always made fun music videos with Genesis and in his solo career. I Can't Dance is probably the most amusing video Genesis made.
Thanks - from the guys who made them (Flattery-Yukich)
My all-time favourite song of all time and always will be!
This video takes me back. I remember it was spoofing a number of adverts of the time. One of which was an advert for jeans.
Phil Collins has been 50 for the last 40 years
This had me rollin...
Good one. I always say that about my husband. lol
Haha haha

True statement 🤣
Phil Collins is still great in 2022, and his lyrical satire of the "supermodel" phenomenon in the 90s is still dryly humorous.
