As for the drawers with false fronts. use the false fronts to store your 4 favorite cookbooks in. They'll always be right to hand, and it should look a bit homey. Hi Becky!! So...the best thing I ever did with my tupperware/snap containers is I store each one with the lid ON. Solves the following:
    1. They stay together.
    2. The inside of the containers remain dust-free.
    3. No guessing on what lids fit.
    4. They stack and stay neat!

    • @lisawallace3124

seems to me they would take up a lot more space that way? I just bought a bunch of lock & lock that are all the same size. (seriously, like 40 of the same container) They stack perfectly, all the lids fit all the containers, they happen to fit perfectly in my work lunch bag, and since they are rectangular (as opposed to round) they fit better in the fridge!

You might want to rethink replacing the wire shelving in the pantry with the solid wood. As I was watching it occurred to me that if that’s solid, you won’t be able to see through it like you can now and you’re ALWAYS going to have to grab a ladder when you want to look up there for something. This way you can see through the shelves into your glass jars and go right to it instead of dragging your ladder along the length to find what you need…

As you work in your new space, you will learn how you utilize it, you will find the homes that work best for you. And don't be afraid to rearrange things multiple times. It may seem like a pain now, but you will end up with a space that is very functional FOR YOU. As for the glass front drawers, how about placing one of your favorite/prettiest/most used cookbooks in each? Love the new place and am so happy for you and Josh!

Becky, the smartest thing I did when moving was to unpack, label all the cupboards, drawers and shelves with green painter's tape and a sharpie, and then move the labels (and stuff) around until I figured out the way the kitchen worked best for us. @@ngaiosbrain Sorry if I wasn't clear, haha. I mean actually make labels out of painter's tape and put them on your cupboards, shelves and drawers. On the outside, where you can see them, of what you've put inside. Often the first try at arranging things doesn't quite work, so this was a way for me to move things about a bit until it felt like everything was in the right place. Plus, when my kids were younger, I kept the labels up for a while (maybe a month?) so they could figure out where everything was in our new kitchen 😃

Hello. I would like to give a couple of suggestions:
    - You could use some of the moving boxes' cardboard to lie on top of the wire shelf. It would protect them from getting dirty and it would give you a more stable base to place items on top of. Since you are planing on renovating the kitchen this could be a temporary option bu if you would like to have a more durable solution you could try wood or other materials.
    - You could put some cooking book in those display areas of the drawers. I don't know if they would fit but it's an option.
Hope any of these ideas would be of help.
Excuse me if I made any mistakes writing this, English is not my mother language.

Drawers with glass fronts, front sections - spaghetti noodles, rotini, egg noodles, rice, lentils, dry beans & peas, dried hot peppers, dried tomatoes, etc. Pretty sure there are polycarbonate containers (or even mason jars) that would fit that front section of each drawer and those would make a nice & also utilitarian usage of those front drawer spaces.

You could also consider redoing the front of the drawer with a solid front, utilizing more drawer space for practical items since they are basically unusable space now and doesn’t sound like you have extra space in your working area. You could put onions or garlic in them as they are. Look on Pinterest for inspiration. 🙂

Trash can under sink: Could it be either on a roll out shelf as well or even do a new door that you can open with a foot touch instead of hands?
Sinks: Not seeing it yet but maybe kitchen and downstairs garden kitchen could have a sink with foot pedals as well....?
Microwave area: Cut that whole tumor away and make it what you want. I mean we all know Josh can definitely make that area better with no sweat.
Pantry: Maybe mount a pull down shade (something nice not basic) for shelving where vinegar is
Can the boxes slide on a blanket where they're going so you don't have to carry?

A thought on kitchen-child safety while you're getting organized and settling into a new layout...
Dishwasher packets can apparently look like candy to some people. Instead of under the sink, may want to put those & other potentially hazardous cleaning supplies up high, and possibly keep the extras behind a locked door somewhere else (if only because of available space up high may be limited). Some kids can figure out the anti-child cabinet locks really fast. I just made sure that anything in the bottom cabinets of my kitchen were things that couldn't cause more than bumps or bruises, and let any resulting chaos happen. Kids can also start climbing surprisingly fast (or at least quite competently with next to no warning), so drawers and countertops aren't far behind in the potential hazard zone. Our youngest (2 yrs 3 months) figured out he could reach the knife block over 6 weeks ago, so that had to find a new home.
And on the topic of small children, may want to think about where you're going to put any baby/child eatingware.
Another thought on the pantry top shelf- I agree a solid surface is better than a rack for storage, but being able to see your goods is important- so how about plexiglass? Is that strong enough to serve as shelf material? Maybe frame some in wood for strength or add extra supports? I've never tried it!
Have fun childproofing Absolutely Everything as you get the house set up! : D
(Wish us luck with our house sale & moving extravaganza!)

For the "shadow box" doors, could you find a nice print fitting the kitchen and pack things like aluminum foil, wax paper, etc there

I am in my second trimester and finally feeling more like myself. The exhaustion and nausea from the first trimester is finally gone. I am finally getting caught up on cleaning around the house, this made me excited to go through my pantry and reorganize!

Same here - 18 weeks now and finally feeling like I can get stuff done/am alive again. I got so sick in my first trimester.

I have snapware too and I store them with the lids on - it does take up a bit more space but I think you have the space in your drawer! Makes it easy to grab what you need without hunting for the lid.

The fronts of those deep drawers you could have placemats in one- tablecloths in one, baby bibs, wipes, soothers, ect in one and I’d be tempted to see if cookie sheets and cooling racks sideways in one … LOVE the kitchen and glad to see a proper pantry 👍 they’re priceless

Becky, I think your cookbooks would be cute in the front of those false drawers. Still a simple look to have one small cookbook in each one

Hi there, Becky! Just want to thank you for your cheerful vlogs, I’m on day 26 of long Covid, and I’m 67 with other health issues. I’ve been really suffering mentally and physically for weeks, nights are especially hard when you are exhausted but can’t sleep. Sooooo, I often watch your videos. You’re a daughter to be proud of and I learn a LOT from you as well. My prayers of protection, are with you all…

Hey Becky, I've been loving watching your videos. I'm looking to buy my first house this year/early next and your videos are very helpful. Just an idea, maybe display your good napkins/rings in the glass display drawers, that way there isn't any wasted space and you can use the current drawer for something else? A question I've been thinking about is what is the plan to move the chickens/run up to the new house? I would be interested in seeing how you manage that, 😀

Becky, I look forward to your videos! Thanks for sharing this crazy part of your life with us. My husband and I just bought and almost restored a cabin/house in the woods on a creek bank. It’s a dream come true for us and it’s so fun to see your journey! Blessings!

Not to be a Debbie Downer, but today is the first anniversary of massive flash floods in our little community in W NC. The devastation was unbelievable. Please be aware if that could possibly be an issue for you. We lost 6 members of our community, and an untold number of animals.

@@stormyweather2807 thank you for your concerned. We are on a hill high off the creek that is in a controlled flood zone. We did our research before buying the property. Sorry to hear of your trouble.

Becky put your baking items into square containers Into those deep drawers in your island, they are perfect and I think meant to be used for these type of goods because I bet that station is where you will do the majority of prep and baking

I use a medium size shallow basket to keep my lids in. My mother did that for me and it tends to save some space. Also a suggestion for those odd drawers across from the oven would to switch them around with the others below the microwave. You would need to change the color of them but it is just a thought.

If they fit it might be nice to fill the glass fronts of those drawers with pretty bottles of oils and vinegars. Gives you something smaller to decant your big containers into and is in easy reach of the stove and baking station! Also, the placement of that knife drawer might be because previous owners used the island as their prep station. That little area under the microwave might be a good place to put trivets for setting down hot things out of the microwave and oven

Have Josh flip those wire shelves, then get clear acrylic cut to go on top of them. You'll be able to see what's up there, there will be a lip to keep things from sliding forward, and the acrylic will make a clear (so you can see), flat (more stable) surface.

i was totally gonna suggest putting paper or non-transparent foil into those fake drawer fronts, so you can use the little space without making it look cluttered. And then you suggested it yourself. I think they would be nice spaces for lids or maybe, if they fit width-wise, the smaller muffin tins, so you can reach the bigger ones more easily as well. Or, if it's possible, have the separator taken out so you get a bigger drawer altogether.
In any case, moving, especially kitchen items, can be super stressfull. I think you're doing a great job. Don't let it get you down if things feel overwhelming. Your ideas make so much sense and ultimately, it'll be a lovely kitchen! 💕
