Great organization tips. A couple of things I do differently; never store tomatoes in the fridge as it changes their texture and orient the knives with handles up so that wet ones will drip off the end of the blade and not into the handle. Fun video! Thanks!
@@LeonBosset 😉Don't buy tomatoes often, but when I do they go in the fridge. 😲My tomatoes will spoil almost instantly left out. Except for a few months a year, my place hovers between 80°-100° inside.
@@teresacarle294 just buy them and use them immediately. Putting them in the fridge changes their flavor, texture, and even their DNA. Never refrigerate tomatoes.
The way you store fresh vegetables and raw meat is just so much better than the other way around. Both because veggies need to go, fast, and for the contamination thing; it just makes so much sense, I'm definitely going to try that. I would personally suggest to move the onions in the fridge for maximum freshness (I use a vegetables bin with a cover so no bad odours) and put the garlic in a terracotta or ceramic jar; both onions and garlic are best kept in the dark because otherwise "they'll think" it's a good time to grow their green bits.
Whether your onions grow sprouts depends on how hot your home is, light have much less of an effect. But it takes quite a while for sprouts to grow, it's more a matter of you leaving the onions for too long, meaning you should buy smaller quantities of onions. However, onions and garlic that has grown sprouts are still edible, as long as the onion is still fresh. It's a bit of a rumour that leaving food in the fridge makes it more fresh, it's more a matter of us referring to food that's cold as being fresh. The fridge is meant to prevent food from growing stale or rot, but not all food that's keep in the fridge will last longer then if kept at room temperature. There's really no good reason to keep onion, garlic, eggs, bread or fruits in the fridge, providing that you eat them within a week's time.
@@ThisIsMyFullName Putting bread in the fridge just makes it go stale almost immediately. It crystalizes the starches. Also eggs should be refrigerated in countries that wash them (USA, Australia, Japan, and most Scandinavian countries).
I started putting my garlic in a plastic ziplock in the freezer, that allows me to buy in bulk and always have it fresh on hand whenever I need it. The frozen garlic cloves are easier to peel (IMO) and all around easier to handle as well I think. They shred super easily and thaw enough to use in a press fairly quickly as well.
I like how you're honest and real about it, and the fact that you don't have a huge kitchen makes you more relatable. A lot of the stuff I probably wouldn't apply in my own kitchen (for instance, my fridge is in the hallway, so there's no point to hang an organizer on it), but it's still helpful to see another perspective on kitchen organization. Thank you for your time!
This is the best I’ve seen on RUclips this far. Practical and doesn’t place aesthetics over usability. Where do you place your snacks like chips, popcorn, etc?
I became unnecessarily heated as you were going through the fridge organization. It makes so much sense, and I have said it for years. My family disagrees and refuses to organize their fridge like this. Thank you for understanding!!
Ingredient report: Mayo was seen at 5:15 - 5:17, 6:39, 7:21, 7:27 - 7:30 and 7:36. Pickled onions were seen at 5:15 - 5:22 and 6:39. This has been your ingredient report, migrating from Eric Bao's initial report.
I love how simple and clean this is. No shade on the ladies on kitchen organization but, this is one of the best. Looks like you only have what you need.
That’s a really nice use of space. I always thought the top was the coldest part of the fridge. I didn’t know the bottom was too. I always keep my eggs on the top shelf, and milk. Another thing I heard is never keep eggs on the door as that’s the warmest part of the fridge.
"4 other family members who could care less about this" * *Couldn't* care less. It means not caring at all, since nothing is less than zero. If you *could* care less, then you'd have to care at least a little.
I'm not a beginner cook but found your video very helpful. I am getting my kitchen remodeled and want to streamline how I use the kitchen once the remodel is done. I love that you have a simplistic approach to storage and organization.
This was very eye opening. I'm constantly trying to figure out the best way to keep up with my groceries and keep a clean organized kitchen In between uses
I’m about to move into my new apartment and can’t wait to organize my kitchen. There’s just something about a neat, clean and well organized kitchen ☺️
Great video. Thank you. It inspired me to get rid of a ton of stuff, including the multitude of pots and pans I've been collecting over the years. I donated a ton of pots, pans, and utensils to local folks.
Thank God. As a bachelor trying to own up to home operating my kitchen like an adult but with no clue how to start, this video is exactly what I was looking for.
I’m thoroughly shocked (and in awe) how much you jam-packed into this kitchen whilst keeping all surfaces looking super minimalist. _I might need to invest in containers_
I do way more baking than cooking, but from your video i was inspired to get organized. You are so right about feeling joy when cooking or baking. Going into the kitchen with a clean slate is so important in being creative. Clutter keeps creativity from flowing. Facts. Thank you for the video, i did purchase a few items off your list.
Awesome how real and personal this is. It's clear that this is all the stuff that works for *you*, and if anyone happens to take some inspiration from the kitchen tour, more power to the video as some kind of loose guidance. 👌🏼
Peripheral kitchen tip: get a folding stool. I have one I keep in the closet by my kitchen. It’s to access that highest shelf I couldn’t otherwise. I put kitchen items and extra baking refill items high up I don’t need often (like flour, sugar, etc). Use all the space you can! I have a lot of leftover containers too, as I like to cook certain things, like meat, in bulk, so I have lots of containers so I can freeze enough for a meal without defrosting more than I need. I also buy a large jug of heavy cream or buttermilk for the same reason. Though these tips only make sense if you have space for a deep freezer. They’re only a few hundred dollars if you have space for one (we keep it in the basement). So I have a whole cabinet just organizing my containers…
I have a compact folding stool for my kitchen too! It lives on a wide command hook stuck to the side of my pantry. I don't often need to get to the top shelf items, but it's nice to be able to without straining or dragging over a dining room chair.
Love the simplicity and organization to your kitchen. The less chaotic the kitchen space it, the more room to breed creativity. I’m getting a lot of inspiration from this, so thank you for sharing!
Love all the tips! Good idea with the meat in the drawer! I recently bought a new bigger fridge and the first thing I did was buy storage containers for the fridge and freezer. Also am minimalist when it comes to the counter top, absolutely no clutter! Thank you! 👏🏻👏🏻
I'm thrilled with the practical tips it provided. The advice on organizing the fridge, pantry, knives, pots, and more was beginner-friendly and made a significant difference in how I manage my kitchen space.
It's a nice kitchen, but my favorite part was your bin of extra spices. Genius. Also, I wanted to mention that while it's nice to have a slimmed down pantry, having an extra supply of long-lasting staples for emergencies is wise. Hopefully we've all seen the wisdom of that with covid. And those can even be stored under a bed to keep them out of the way if they are stored properly.
This inspired me to clean my kitchen! What an efficient way to keep a clean kitchen. Bookmarked!! Best channel ever... hoping for 1 million subs by 2021
Thank you so much for the video. Your approach to kitchen organisation is so different from the ones you normally meet surfing youtube. The key point - to store less and use it more often. Love it!
Not a native speaker, and I nearly spilled my coffee from laughter when I misheard 6:53. "I keep a bag of (frozen) peas in case I end up with a black guy." I paused and for longer than I'd like to admit thought about why and how frozen peas could be related to black guys.
Keeping my fridge and freezer organized is my weak spot. I'm so bad at this. Thanks for your video, it was quite informative and made me realize I should rather check the temperatures in my fridge rather than blindly shovel meat up (probably the coolest part in mine) and all the veggies and fruit down in the bin, where I often just forget what is actually there. Poor broccoli. Also I just love your movable kitchen island, that's a nice idea!
How one organises the kitchen is individual, but what I like is someone who takes the trouble because he wants to enjoy his time in the kitchen. As a South Indian woman this is my reasoning too, since we tend to spend more time in the kitchen than anywhere else in the house. I spent lot of time and thinking, borrowing ideas wherever I could to finally have a smoothly functioning kitchen which is a blend of traditional needs and contemporary conveniences. One luxury that most traditional kitchens in South India have is what we call a “store room”, which is part of the kitchen and a blessing. All large gadgets, wholesale purchases and those which I haven’t had time to organise ...all go in there. I discovered you, Ethan, on RUclips yesterday and since then have been binge watching a lot of your videos. Very impressive..... you use what you have and use what you like the taste of seems to be your principle. I really like the magnetic shelf on the side of the fridge. Will look for it. Thanks for the posts.
I prefer Loc-N-Lock for storage containers & love the OXO containers to store flours & corn meal. There is something fun about popping that little center up.
This is such a refreshing video to watch. I love how minimalistic yet completely functional your kitchen is. It truly shows size doesn't matter. My dream kitchen is minimalistic AKA easy to clean/uncluttered. Thus, always ready for projects. Also, good ventilation, big windows, and plants: both herbs and decorative. I will definitely use your kitchen as inspiration.
Took me years and years to figure out how to get things right. Same small kitchen for 25 years. Very few drawers, awkward cabinets, very little counter space. One thing that changed everything was shelves in my utility room next to kitchen for all appliances. I can grab and use as needed. No doors. No cupboards. Easy to get, easy to put back. No friction. Makes using them a joy. I've pretty much kept my family in fear of moving anything. It helped. I just got a new fridge that's an organizational dream (four french doors, pull out drawers in bottom freezer). Clear bins are my new must haves.
Great timing for my part on this video. I've been re-organizing and gotten rid of a lot of unnecessarily hoarded items in my storage room and the kitchen is next on my list. This gave me some more inspiration to get started with that ;D
Thank you for sharing your kitchen setup! As a student I am taking notes. An important factor for me would also be to make the setup more sustainable, less plasticky. Maybe there is a new video idea in there: sustainable but affordable kitchen setup
As someone who has always struggled maintaining organization, thank you. Your video gave me some great products and tips! I've really been enjoying your channel! Keep it up.
This is great. Your comment on using the griddle the most surprised me, though, even though you use it all the time in videos. Would love a video in this practical series about using a griddle.
I finished my food handler's card for a new restaurant job the other day, and came out of it thinking I desperately needed to fix how I store and organize stuff at home. And then holy hell, this came out just now. Everything here's in accordance with that and looks so much easier. I'm tired of rummaging through shelves looking for produce or ingredients.
Thank you. I love to cook and I love to be organized. My setup is not, altogether, dissimilar to yours. My kitchen is much larger.I have 2 bakers shelves that serve as a pantry and I hang some often used utensils and pots and pans off the side with S hooks. I have a large waist high cabinet that I use for prep that is movable and a movable island with storage with a built in wood cutting board on top. I found a few of your suggestions helpful, particularly in regard to the refrigerator.Thank you, again, and keep up the good work.
Great attainable kitchden, super for someone thinking moving out soon. The bins in the fridge are a must, i even have a small container of my already 'opened' veg so i will use those first. Side note:I know ketchup wont actually go bad but does anyone enjoy lukewarm ketchup??? Either way, great video, thanks.
This video has inspired me to reorganize my kitchen, especially the fridge organization. I have two roommates, but in general it is only myself and one other who utilize the fridge for food prep and cooking! The magnetic fridge shelving unit you have is awesome!
Love this concept of video. I try to convince my fam to use this way of thinking to organize the kitchen, but thats an on-going project. Only thing I am not sure about is carrying that huge block all the way to the sink every time you cook? Is it a hassle to clean that block and how do you clean your moving island? Esp. when cooking messy things like juicier tomatoes, meats, and making doughs ect.
The cutting board he is using is large enough that having to take it to the sink shouldn't often be necessary. A well cared for cutting board surface can be wiped down regularly much like you would a countertop. If you aren't messy to the point of getting things under it every single time you cook, you can lift it up and wipe under it on and as needed basis. Some need to do it daily just to feel clean even if nothing is under it while others will be satisfied with once every few days to a week.
@@kellynoel77 I've greatly reduced inventory in my small kitchen, and it's still a struggle, but mostly because there are 6 people living here and, with no pantry, everything goes in the kitchen cabinets. Plus I actually have fewer drawers than he has. Old kitchens do not make good use of space. 😒
Same. We have a few big cupboards with one shelf in each - so much wasted space without drawers. I refuse to keep dishes we aren’t using, or appliances that can be replaced with other tools or processes. (No instant pot here.) And I also keep cast iron in the oven. I am in the middle of planning a renovation, but it will be at least 2 years before I can consider actually renovating.
The adds that you're in only pop up (for me) when I'm watching your videos, thought it might be useful info. Love the channel, keep up the good work !!
1: my kitchen enviroment should be enjoyable to cooking 2: every item, tool and ingredient should have a defined space and be visible as possible 3: my most used items are easy to get to 4: my storage solution should be simple and ecomonical
Wait until the kids show up. Enjoy it while it lasts before you resign yourself to "if you can't beat them, join them". I am just now finally starting to get my kitchen back - my boys are 16 and 11. Thank you for taking the time to make and upload your videos, I will be using a lot of these ideas here.
That freezer is way too empty! :P On a serious note, really appreciate this video as it gives me great ideas on how to organize my own kitchen to maximize storage space!
Excellent video! Really liked the focus on making a kitchen a space you’d wanna be in to promote cooking instead of just overloaded with stuff you’ll never use
I got rid of my microwave ages ago because it just takes up so much space and I used it so rarely. Lately I've been trying to figure out what sort of tiny microwave I could get for the rare times I need one, but it never occurred to me that it doesn't actually have to go in my kitchen. So, this gives me something to think about.
I love that you’re using reusable containers! I wanted to ask if you ever tried using beeswax papers to replace plastic bags and films? You switching to a more sustainable option with a huge following you have would be so great!
What a great and smart way to organize your kitchen. It’s one of the best videos I’ve saw so far. Very clean, tidy and accessible. I will definitely follow your style. Thank you for sharing. Excellent job. Bravo 👏
Re: deli containers. Super economical and easy to reuse, but unfortunately something is not recyclable just because it has a recycling symbol on it! Plastics 5 (polypropylene) is not recyclable in many residential programs, so make sure to check your local area's program before recycling Lovely video as always :)
👍Do like the fact the 3 different size deli containers use the same size lid. That's brilliant. 👎Still concerned about recycling♻️plastic as well as chemical leaching into food w/heating & cooling. Also don't like that food odors & oils often get trapped in plastic. 🍅Things with tomato sauce, for example, sometimes leaves a lasting impression😣. 🤗Mostly use my collection of glass lidded vintage Pyrex dishes for baking, serving &/or leftovers. Also a trio of their newer glass nesting bowls (w/plastic lids😢). I can also heat these bowls in microwave or use to bake in my Instant Pot too. 😍Inherited a huge amount of vintage Anchor Hocking & other glass apothecary jars for kitchen staples from family that are all in use. Tuck them carefully away on lower locked shelves bcos of earthquake concerns. 🚫Say "No" to heavy projectiles flying at you from open shelves. Most survived two big events (70s/90s). I wanna keep it that way! 🤔My only other concern about glass is they do add an extra weight over plastic options, esp. when filled. As reach middle-age not as enamoured with weighty dishes. More hazardous for children to handle glass too. ~~~~~~~~~ 💟Love to save interesting glass vessels, bottles & jars (jelly, olive, pickle, sauce, spirits, etc.) for reuse ♻️. •Collected a bunch that look like textured mason jars. For parties, used them as drinking glasses, vases, tea light & cutlery holders. •Also used prettily shaped petite jam jars for single servings of pudding, jello & other desserts. •For lunches, used larger pickle jars for layered salads or to hold popcorn. And, smaller jars to decant a single serving from a big bag or bottle of seeds/nuts, trail/chex mix, crackers, chopped veggies, or dressing/dip. •Use a gorgeous vodka bottle (w/the tall pump from bulk-buy shampoo) for dish detergent on counter. It looks pretty w/colored liquid soap inside. •Use other smaller liquor bottles for hand santizer & lotion (using pump bottle off friend's facial cleanser). •These second-hand jars also store leftovers, office or beauty supplies. •If aesthetics matter, you can spray paint lid to match your decor or color code for family members. You can also add embellishments or labels. •After washed/dried, sort by size, store jars w/lids attached in a bin or crate you put in cabinet or pantry. •🚫Note: you can't reuse these jars for canning w/original lids. You can only use them for long-term food preservation IF a mason jar lid can securely screw on it. ☮🌼🦋💛🦋🌼☮
Hey Ethan, food safety professional here. Great video! Wanted to let you know, the “food danger zone” is actually 42-135*F, not 140*F. It used to be 140 back in the day, but modern standards have it at 135. Thanks again dude!

@@ThisIsMyFullName second this, putting onions in the fridge make little sense.
@@ThisIsMyFullName Putting bread in the fridge just makes it go stale almost immediately. It crystalizes the starches. Also eggs should be refrigerated in countries that wash them (USA, Australia, Japan, and most Scandinavian countries).
Agreed! And it makes them far more appetizing! Much more than rotting in a plastic bag from the store
I love how accessible you make everything, like you didn’t have to put all the links in the description, but you did and that’s awesome!
Do you notice that the oils degrade in the location you picked? 🤔 Wondering if the heat of the stove is an issue...
This is the best I’ve seen on RUclips this far. Practical and doesn’t place aesthetics over usability. Where do you place your snacks like chips, popcorn, etc?
Probably doesn't buy snacks like that, I personally have cut out packaged snacks :)
I became unnecessarily heated as you were going through the fridge organization. It makes so much sense, and I have said it for years. My family disagrees and refuses to organize their fridge like this. Thank you for understanding!!

Very jealous of this setup. Living with 4 other family members who couldn’t care less about this has been tough to live with
at least i am not alone
"4 other family members who could care less about this"
* *Couldn't* care less. It means not caring at all, since nothing is less than zero. If you *could* care less, then you'd have to care at least a little.
its hard taking care of adults lmao

This channel is one of the most informative and condensed source of quality kitchen knowledge I've found! :)
BEST channel by far.

Thanks!
THAT PART! That was the only thing that bothered me. 😭💯
This inspired me to clean my kitchen! What an efficient way to keep a clean kitchen. Bookmarked!!
Best channel ever... hoping for 1 million subs by 2021
This is a perfectly organized video to help people perfectly organize their kitchens!
Thank you so much for the video. Your approach to kitchen organisation is so different from the ones you normally meet surfing youtube. The key point - to store less and use it more often. Love it!
Not a native speaker, and I nearly spilled my coffee from laughter when I misheard 6:53. "I keep a bag of (frozen) peas in case I end up with a black guy."
I paused and for longer than I'd like to admit thought about why and how frozen peas could be related to black guys.
the same 😂
Haven’t you ever heard of the Black Guy Peas?
@@seanmatthewking I actually wheezed😂 Thank you for making my day that much better
I understood black eye but in my culture we don't use frozen peas for bruises hahahah you just put ice in a kitchen rag and apply to the area
I wish I could like this video twice. Thanks so much for the inspiration 😄
This is my second visit to your video. I live in a small apartment with a small kitchen. These are very helpful ideas for how to organize my kitchen.
I appreciate that his kitchen is a pretty relatable size for us who live in apartments
This is probably the best and the most concise video on the kitchen org. It did help me a lot.
I prefer Loc-N-Lock for storage containers & love the OXO containers to store flours & corn meal.
There is something fun about popping that little center up.
🎉 That airtight feature is truly awesome❣
Ethan you’re doing the work of god, bro, fr, you’re a huge help to the community and deserve at least a trophy
Holy cow, love this kitchen setup. Especially the magnetic thingy on the side of the fridge. 🤯
Combines two of my big interests: organizing and homemade food! So practical and pleasing. Every item inspires me. Thank you!!
Great timing for my part on this video. I've been re-organizing and gotten rid of a lot of unnecessarily hoarded items in my storage room and the kitchen is next on my list. This gave me some more inspiration to get started with that ;D
That is some true bang for your buck for a 10 minute video!! A lean man info video with everything it needs - just like Ethan's kitchen.
Keep it up.
DOPE video man, really really liked the idea of keeping fruits and veggies where your eyes can see em. I'll be doing that! Much love brother!

I'm about to get my first apartment on my own and this video is perfectly timed! Thanks Ethan! 😄
I feel like this video just revolutionized how I see & utilize my kitchen space. I know this sounds cliché but this is pretty much a life changer
Looks like I’m reorganizing my kitchen this weekend
I'm working on my kitchen a lot now and thanks for the great tips your kitchen looks very nice and it was a great video
Best kitchen vid I’ve seen... realistic, attainable vs super pretty with matching everything, but impractical & unrealistic! New follower!!
Oh what a different world it is with adequate kitchen storage 😂😂. My cast iron pans live in my oven lol
This dude’s kitchen is tiny. It’s adequate because he’s limited or reduced the inventory to fit the space.
1: my kitchen enviroment should be enjoyable to cooking
2: every item, tool and ingredient should have a defined space and be visible as possible
3: my most used items are easy to get to
4: my storage solution should be simple and ecomonical
Thanks for this video because cooking is not the only part of the solution but kitchen management is
Last time I was this early, the onions weren’t pickled.
Last time I was the first reply the mayo wasn’t slathered on a piece of Tenderloin
Wait until the kids show up.

Finally there is an organization video for a realistic apartment kitchen....aka a micro tiny one. You are awesome.

I don't think I've ever geeked out harder than when you showed the magnetic shelf organizer with the paper towel attachment.
I love that you’re using reusable containers! I wanted to ask if you ever tried using beeswax papers to replace plastic bags and films? You switching to a more sustainable option with a huge following you have would be so great!
if he would want to live a more sustainable life he would have stopped eating that much meat. I think he doesn't care about a sustainable lifestyle

Ethan, thank you, it was a great video for single guys who want to get organized!
Soon as I saw those deli containers, I knew I was in the right place.
I have such a hard time with organizing due to my ADHD but this video showed me a lot of very important features for an organized kitchen. Thank you.
Although I must ask, how often do you replace your bulk preground spices? I believe they lose potency within a few months.
Re: deli containers. Super economical and easy to reuse, but unfortunately something is not recyclable just because it has a recycling symbol on it! Plastics 5 (polypropylene) is not recyclable in many residential programs, so make sure to check your local area's program before recycling
Lovely video as always :)
You have to have at least a minor in recycling AND pay for the privilege of them hauling it away! Or... Just throw everything in the trash.
~~~~~~~~~
💟Love to save interesting glass vessels, bottles & jars (jelly, olive, pickle, sauce, spirits, etc.) for reuse ♻️.
•Collected a bunch that look like textured mason jars. For parties, used them as drinking glasses, vases, tea light & cutlery holders. •Also used prettily shaped petite jam jars for single servings of pudding, jello & other desserts.
•For lunches, used larger pickle jars for layered salads or to hold popcorn. And, smaller jars to decant a single serving from a big bag or bottle of seeds/nuts, trail/chex mix, crackers, chopped veggies, or dressing/dip.
•Use a gorgeous vodka bottle (w/the tall pump from bulk-buy shampoo) for dish detergent on counter. It looks pretty w/colored liquid soap inside.
•Use other smaller liquor bottles for hand santizer & lotion (using pump bottle off friend's facial cleanser).
•These second-hand jars also store leftovers, office or beauty supplies.
•If aesthetics matter, you can spray paint lid to match your decor or color code for family members. You can also add embellishments or labels.
•After washed/dried, sort by size, store jars w/lids attached in a bin or crate you put in cabinet or pantry.
•🚫Note: you can't reuse these jars for canning w/original lids. You can only use them for long-term food preservation IF a mason jar lid can securely screw on it.
