Buddha just means the awakened one, so yes we can all become Buddha. But you must come to a realization of the nature of life by yourself. If you follow currently available Buddhist teaching and tradition, you can only at most becomes an Arahat. To come to such realization requires a mind and soul deeper than most could possess or fathom, and there is no guarantee.

The teachings of Buddha were divided into the northern and southern routes. The northern route of Buddhism, called Mahayana Buddhism, teaches about the universe. The universe is a hierarchical universe called the Three Thousand Worlds, and is the same as the real one. The space of the universe continues infinitely in all directions, and time flows from the infinite past to the future. The countless dust-like worlds that spread in all directions are governed by the law of causality, and there are countless Buddha Lands (planets of the enlightened).
Esoteric Buddhism preaches about blossom of Buddha-nature by compassion (spirit) and wisdom (science). The Avatamsaka Sutra teaches about the fractal multiverse, which says that the universe exists even in dust or the pores of the skin. In such an infinite universe, the Lotus Sutra teaches about the eternal Buddha. This is syncretized with monotheism as follows: God creates Man . Man attains enlightenment and becomes Buddha. Buddha, who is an enlightened being, of course knows the essence of life, DNA. When Buddha uses its wisdom to synthesize DNA and Man appears, Buddha becomes God. Compassion, a value shared by all galactic civilizations, allows for an infinite cycle of life between God, Man, and Buddha to emerge.
In the 21st century, humanity must walk the path of awakening and make Earth a joyful planet through the development of Buddha nature and cosmic thinking.

The movie was okay. It had an interesting concept and tried to explore it succinctly, of suffering, death, rebirth and the teachings of the Buddha, with some intersection with a critique on Western life. However, amongst many details I didn't agree with, two stood out. When Siddhartha(Keanu) tells his father that he has to break the 'curse' of the cycle of life and death...I cringed. To view Samsara, life, our struggle, our journey from cradle to the grave as a 'curse' is not a life affirming philosophy, and honestly, I don't think it is an actual Buddhist belief...that this is a curse. I did not like seeing that.
Secondly...towards the end of the movie, when the main monk is dying...and one of the other monks is talking to the father from Seattle about death, the monk says, "Every breath we are dying." And the tone is somber and without joy for the life we've been gifted. Really, every breath we are dying? My goodness. Yes, death of the body is an inevitably, but why not say, 'Every breath is a joy.' Every breath is an opportunity. Every breath is a blessing. Every moment is momentous.
I do not wish to offend anyone or come across arrogantly, but I don't think the screenplay writers and story writer (Rudy Wurlitzer, Mark Peploe, and Bernardo Bertolucci) had the Ultimate understanding of the Universe. I honestly think the three individuals guiding the reigns of this movie imprinted their perceptions on the topic of Buddhism and death...and it seems clear to me...they misspoke.
Every breath of life should be cherished. And when we pass, let us celebrate for we have transitioned. Praise God. Life is a gift. Though we struggle and stumble our way, at times. It's not always easy...but every moment is a blessing...and only God knows the hour, when we shall return. Life goes on. Shalom.

He is Mongolian faced...siddhartha was born in Nepal (today's Nepal, as there was no boundaries or countries in that period of time)under the shakya clan who till date go by the same title.....but yes the debate that Buddha was born in present day India is controversial..because Siddhartha did attain Buddhatwa/Budhhahood in present day India ...n Attaining Buddhatwa is considered a rebirth,.... But yes his origin though claimed to be a Kshatriya (basically meaning warrior tribes under the then Nepali caste system established by the then Aryan kingship )..is actually just a status of the tribe he belonged to it never differentiated the features of a person as of today's Nepali caste system...His tribe was named the Shakyas, thus the title for Buddha goes as SHAKYAMUNI BUDDHA n yes the Shakyas are mongol featured...but Tibet n China though are supreme in contributing a lot for today's Buddhism they belong to the Vajrayana and Mahayana sects respectively of the Buddhism Religeon and though in the core root lies the pure teachings of Buddha, they differ in practise and are sub genres of the Foremost Buddha teachings,..found in Theravada Buddhism which is pure and unaltered in its practise to date...as taught by the Buddha himself ..
Guru Padhmasambhava aka Guru Rinpoche who was a student of Budhha went to Tibet on request of the then King to preach The pure teachings of Buddha, but he didn't want to hurt the sentiments of the Tibetan people who were highly influenced by aristocracy then,so he chose a middle path, thus came the birth of Buddha_ism/Buddhism..The fact is Buddha himself never encouraged isms or caste systems or any another bias hypocrisies of the societies ..his teachings was called "DHAMMO or DHAMMA"... Which is till date practiced unaltered in the Theravada sect.

@@swat1710Interesting. Like all those Great Ones (Masters)… the religions that formed from the followers are usually so lacking! But… they point to Truths… no matter the religion, but the followers usually get caught up in just worshipping, and really do not understand going Within, and sadly, use the religion to cause more feelings of separation. But I love this movie… and Enlightenment isn’t about glowing in gold as Keanu Reeves does at the end… but I love it…🙏 Thanks for the info. Peace.
