@@NostalgiaUnboxed I always thought that the Super7 versions were larger than the NECA figures, but not in this case they aren't! I think the Super7 Bebop and Rocksteady are bigger than the NECA versions though.
I respect the Super7 stuff, but I do feel like too many of their offerings lack paint compared to all the figures that NECA release. It is the paint that makes the figures 'pop' at the end of the day, and is probably one of the most important parts to get right.
@@nicholashill8724 I totally agree! I recently stated that even my favorite Super7 stuff, the Simpsons, is only like 90% of what it needs to be. The black outlines would likely hit that mark though.

Metalhead is my favorite so these were actually the first pieces I picked up from both lines.
They are quite complementary for the full Metalhead nostalgia experience. From the Vacuum Cleaner attachment, to the Glowing eyes. Drove me crazy trying to get the Neca one last year with some dealers asking like $75 for one. And then Neca just had it reissued for both of their target events since then.
One thing you might not realize is a gimmick with the original Metalhead toy and the super seven figure is to replace the hands with the nunchuk attachments.
And they give a pair of loose ones for dual wielding.
Yes! Haha. It’s a cool feature that really helps the Super7 out. I just wish he could hit the mark. I like them both, but it’s really no comparison
@@NostalgiaUnboxed I think I came to a similar conclusion. The Neca one does make for excellent photography. Both as a turtle crushing minion of the Shredder, or as a Righteous Robot Hero.

You are a well known huge NECA guy so im not surprised. 😉 Its really hard to beat NECA in price, id argue NECA is just as cheap feeling, just in a different way. More of a brittle kind of cheap vs the plasticy cheap if that makes sense. 40 and below for Super7 is the sweet spot. If you can get 30, its all coming up Milhouse

Metalhead retailed for 45.99. It’s honestly so nice to see super7 drop down to 29-35 dollars much “closer” to where I feel it values. It’s a frustrating toy I went with it just because all my nostalgia is for the toy design. Tho I’m watching this to see if my sickness with collecting is gonna make me want two metal heads

Well, I have to say, I thought you were going to say the NECA one all along. For me, personally, the NECA one gives me more nostalgia. I never liked or collected the Playmates toys and I think the NECA one has so much character and best resembles Metalhead the way I remember him.

Cool. Neca is doing a great job. Admittedly I am shocked to find out there are 87 cartoon Tmnt fans who also aren’t intimately familiar with the toys (ofc it makes sense) sounds like me with transformers. My connection is more with the cartoons not the old toys aesthetic
I definitely collected the Playmates figures back when; Ninja Turtles was my last big line of toys I got as a kid. They completed the bookend that began with Star Wars & He-Man. With all that nostalgia being said, I _absolutely_ prefer cartoon accuracy over Playmates designs.
Even when the toy design is much cooler (like Muckman), I still go with NECA. From the plastic they use, to _everything_ being painted (and with a matte finish), it all screams adult collectible little pieces of art and not outrageously expensive kid toys.
I have almost every Neca TMNT cartoon line figure, and only one Super7 (sewer surfin Mikey) figure because of that reason alone, the paint. Neca works wonders with the paint apps and at a great price.

I have a “love/hate” relationship with both lines, now that I’ve dipped my toes into the NECA cartoon stuff. Most of the cartoon stuff is impossible to find around my area. It might get stocked once. This year’s Haulathon stuff never showed up. My biggest gripe with NECA is the painted/gummy joints. Once they’re heated up and broken in, they’re fine though. I’m a “make sure all the joints work and pose ‘em once” kinda’ guy, anyway.
I have only paid full retail for three Super7 TMNT Ultimates. The rest have all been Amazon and eBay buys. I love getting them at less than MSRP, but I am legit worried about the future of the line when it comes to availability. There will eventually be a correction from buyers ordering lower quantities on these things because they don’t hold that initial price point. All that being said, yeah, Super7 does have looser joints on some figures. The worst one in my experience has been Krang’s walker. That’s a floppy mess. I am very happy they made a Scratch figure, though. Holding that figure for the first time brought a wave of happiness over me. It was like getting a new figure for the line back when I was a kid.
The only figure I have both the NECA and Super7 version of is Muck Man. Super7’s is the superior version, imo. That’s not to say the NECA one is bad, though. I think it’s really hard to compare a cartoon version to a toy version. I don’t think we can ever get to a point where we can declare an overall definitive version of anything from TMNT. There are just so many versions of the line.
Sounds like your store doesn't have the 3rd party Neca vendor. All the boxes are just gonna be sitting in the back waiting for them and they never show in inventory until that person arrives and scans them in.
While Super7 items are often available from many retailers well after release, I kind of feel like they will not hold value even when supply is limited due to how poorly made they often are.
I definitely want to get my hands on Muck man to compare!
I have the neca one and I love it. I have a lot of the super7 tmnt line, but metal head is one I haven't picked up at this point.

The super 7 M.H was the one I FREAKED out when I saw the promo pics, I lre ordered it and was stoked. I have no recollection of connection to.he TMNT show MH. My nostalgia was overloaded as I never owned a complete version of the playmates ones, always got him 2nd hand from buddies or goodwill as a kid so being able to get one slightly better articulated, all chromed out as a 30 y.o man, I was ready for him and even just said I'll have the S7 one be my definitive version in my collection. But something about it after getting him just didn't work loved all the hands and accessories but really, him not being able to stand up straight just pissed me off.

Bro, thank you! That was my feelings exactly. I kept trying to justify keeping it and I still fight this time I go and look at what to resell. The price tag doesn't bother me, cause I wanted that fig and I feel and still do that S7 does allot to justify the price point except for the QC...so now I have both and like you brotha, I was surprised with how much I dug the neca one.

Target just kept giving them away to me like Oprah gifts her audience. L, L, L!!!! Everytime I walked in there it was very little neca tmnt stuff but one fig I saw the most of was that damn Metalhead, my rage for seeing that bastard on the shelf was burning, not only did I see him every trip his quantity never diminished. At this point I felt neca was singling me out on purpose, cause I'm seeing you, mad hatter and others getting these wins. I'm like "ain't no way, ain't no f*cking way"
Then I decided to give it another try. Walked to the neca aisle with low hopes, cause you know what they say, set em low so you're never disappointed right and what do I see? Mecha bebop and rocksteady...I didn't even have words that coherent that exited my mouth, like I was speaking in tongues without subtitles. Pick that box up and say there and debated if I even need this set? The prices on 2packs were higher and I already had the original duo and also had no connection to these versions. But then I glanced over and saw that MF'ing Metalhead and 🔥🔥🔥, so I made my decision and start to walk away. Then this guy comes over and we start talking about neca and TMNT and how morning is ever restocked any more cause I'm my town I rarely see legit collectors just scalpers and resellers so I was like SOCIAL ACTIVITY!!!!! So after we talked and I saw he was going to be getting an "L" that day, I then decided to give him the 2pack, he declined but I for some reason wasn't taking a NO, he thanked me we parted ways, he seemed very thankful. I then turned over facing the neca shelf and locked optics with that got Damn METALHEAD. He knew he won, like an abusive relationship with the best s*x and a year later we are happily married....but I'm just bidding my time.

Love your videos!! You and Hatter are my favorites to watch. Your hatter impression was spot on 😂. I was also disappointed with the super7 metalhead. I really dislike the cheap gold shell. If Mattel can give us that vintage metallic look on MOTU figures, super7 should be able to make it happen. That was a big miss. Plus I have basically one pose he can be in or he falls over due to loose joints. Keep up the good work. I really appreciate you bringing the realness on your opinion and not sugarcoating. I like both of them, really. My main nostalgia draw is the old cartoon, but my little bro had quite a few of the vintage toys, so, I have fond memories of stepping on them in my bare feet.

Honestly both of them are pretty cool for different reasons. I agree, they both kind of compliment, and look good with each other. The neca one I think is a bit more sophisticated over all, but the gold paint on the super 7 and the accessories are cool. 💨👽🛸

I recently saw an Ultimates Shredder in an antique store for $30. Why doesn't the Ultimates line retain their MSRP at least?
Many do, but some like Shredder aren’t as in demand

for me both are perfect because i get my cartoon accurate Metalhead and at the same time i get my updated version of the toy version with extra articulation which the original didn't have, btw i still have my original toy of Metalhead with me to this day lol.
Now to be fair if we talk about which is the best Metalhead figure then at the end of the day the Neca version is the better one because is more screen accurate to the show and that's what a lot of people prefer. While the Super7 version is more toy accurate which a lot of us had, it was not screen accurate to the TV show so for that Neca's Metalhead wins by a lot regardless of accessories, size or price.
I am glad when anyone can enjoy the Super7 once they actually have it in their hands. I really thought it would win for me based on nostalgia alone. It’s just so cheap though

So @NostalgiaUnboxed I’m having a bit of trouble, The 2 pack SOTO Turtles are 60 each at Walmart with their 4 pack being 220 and the 90s version of them from 1st movie is 160 per 2 pack, idk which one to get cus there is no comparison video, which ones should I get??
Don’t pay $160 for the 1st film. Those are scalper prices. But that is the ideal version, I think. Just depends on which movie you love the most. The second movie figures are a bit more goofy with their expressions over the 1st movie
Maybe he's like Cain from Robocop 2, a brain inside of a machine! Super7 definitely hits on the nostalgia but looks more like a Mcdonald's happy meal toy when compared to the Neca one.

If you want a recommendation. I’d love to see you compare one of the NECA slash vs super7, even among big super7 fans like myself I found Metalhead disappointing. I appreciate you being honest. Muckman is another figure where I would put super7 first but yea most times neca packs in more value.

I lean towards Metalhead from "Subpar7" only because it is the updated version of OG Metalhead. Andv I have vivid memories of him being one of my top figs from that run.

I have my original playmates from when I was a kid (no accessories, lost them long ago), and the two in this video. I love all of them. He was my favorite figure growing up. But I paid full retail for the S7 and it was not worth it. He can barely even stand because his leg joints are so bad. Still like it but ya, it would be my least favorite of the three and that is before even considering the price which was too high for what I got.
It’s a bummer. Mine can barely stand as well and it really makes it become a frustrating figure

@@NostalgiaUnboxed the only ones i told myself i'd ever get were the characters i really loved as a kid who weren't from the cartoon and thus would never get made by NECA. it was a small list consisting of only Pizzaface & Sergeant Bananas, so of course when they got to Bananas they decided to instead skip him and do that weird Guerrilla Gorilla instead just to spite me 🤣

I've got both figures, and I really like both of them. But I think Super7 takes it for me. I grew up on the original Turtles cartoon, and even had a bunch of the VHS tapes, but when I think of anything Turtles related, it's Playmates stuff. To the point where I saw the original NECA toon stuff and thought, "why aren't they different shades of green?"

I like the S7 version more. The color of the chest makes all the little details on the arms and legs pop out more and he looks vibrant. The NECA version just looks like a bunch of muted grey rectangles .
That was how I felt until I got them both. Having hands-on with these literally changed my mind
To me, both of these serve a different purpose. As good as the NECA version is, the figure does you no good if you want to recapture that playmates look. Same holds true for the SUPER7 version if you really want that toon collection. That's why I do both. SUPER7 I get on as steep a discount as i can and only get the ones that I remember being my favorites as a kid. I'll get almost all of the toon NECA stuff because, as much as I enjoyed my Playmates stuff, I always wanted show accurate versions. But... NECA usually makes the better figures.
TL;DR I buy NECA because it's what Ive always wanted and I buy Super7 because it's what I once had.

For looks, I'll take vintage-toy-accurate over cartoon-inaccurate any day, but then, Metalhead was never one of my favourites, so I don't really have a horse in this particular race.. I know the Super7 "Leatherhead" wave had a serious problem with loose joints, but the Slash from the following wave came out spectacularly well and solidly-built.
Once you get them in your hands you will likely change your mind
Super7 charges an insane price for their lacking product experiences. Most of them have become a wobbly mess too. I’ll try to avoid buying them right out and play the waiting game.
On that note, if you can get the turtle boys on the cheap, I highly recommend them. I made it a point to only grab the figures that coincide with the playmates ones I had as a kid. Too expensive to go whole hog.
I reviewed Donatello a few months back. He is certainly better than Metalhead, but still not worth that retail price. Haha

I grew up with the cartoon and stayed away from the toys because they weren’t screen accurate. So when NECA started coming out with the toon line I was ecstatic. So this is why I lean towards the NECA line the most. For their quality and accuracy.

The worst in the line!
Seems we all have subjective ideas on what quality is to us. I wanted to love neca but every other figure in the set broke or had some different part placed on. And neca weapons are super frail and snap. I did not like s7 when they first came out with tmnt. But i was totally surprised by one particular figure and i was hooked! Its the nostalgia for me.
Curious on which characters you had issues with. Anything built around the time of Bebop/Rocksteady and Leatherhead seem to be SUPER delicate. But anything that has released since I started collecting (August 2022) has been great
@NostalgiaUnboxed yup... my Rocksteady left leg broke straight outta the pack. Both my triceratons left arms broke off with articulation. Leo in the in disguise 4 pack came with two right feet. The rat king had a hip joint sticking way out. The Casey and slashed foot set, the foot wire tore so fast. One toon foot set had both foot soldiers with wonky hips. I only kept my punk frogs sets and I was actually impressed with the Baxter and splinter set, and probably my favorite.
Half way through I could tell you were already choosing neca. To each their own.

I just wish NECA were easier to get. Still can't get an April or Shredder. Other than that, NECA def wins and I do collect Super 7 Thundercats and their Power Rangers, but their TMNT line has always been a bit off. Couldn't agree more on NECA winning here.

I don’t have one but don’t think I can crap on the Super 7 one at all. It looks like a near perfect version of what it set out to be: A modern version of a classic toy with updated articulation and accessories. I just much prefer the neca version. It looks like the character from the cartoon and fits in aesthetically with the rest of the line. I always wanted my toys to look like the cartoon and the playmates line definitely didn’t pull that off😹
That’s what I thought, too. But then I got it in my hands and it really isn’t doing it. At this rate, buying the playmates version is ideal. There isn’t enough of a lift on this to make it worth the price. And the legs are absolutely worthless

There are people like me, who don't LIKE a lot of drybrushing or shading. It can make the figures look dirty.
And molded plastic will never chip or scratch like paint will.
So, while I get that you prefer that, it's not really fair to complain that a figure that either isn't supposed to have it or is trying to have a different visual style should.
I absolutely hate that NECA doesn't cast anything in colored plastic, because 95% of my toon figures have different colored ankles or wrists because of that aforementioned chipping problem (the Triceraton 2-pack was the worst - I should've taken a picture of it - after testing all the joints, my lap was COVERED in yellow & green paint chips lmao).
I WILL say though, as someone who has almost been a completionist on both lines (didn't get the first year's Loot Crates with Bunny Bebop & Rocksteady, and there are some Ultimates variants coming up that I don't remember as a kid, and they don't look good enough to me to spend the money - like Robot Bebop & Rocksteady, haha), that with Super7 changing the sizes of some characters like Bebop & Rocksteady (I'm kinda sick of typing that LOL), I DO agree with you that it would've been cool to have Metalhead be larger than the Turtles (even though my nostalgia gland always pictured him as just a robotic version of the shorter Turtles).

Also, man, you call Super7 & Playmates "cheap plastic," but NECA's stuff feels so stiff & brittle. Even when it's solid, it feels brittle & unforgiving.
I have a lot of 3rd party Transformers, and that's the same plastic they use. Brittle. Lots of thinness, even when solid.
Playmates & Super7 feel like Hasbro or McFarlane or Mondo. They feel official.
NECA's stuff feels cheaper, but costs SO much more than all of those (excluding Mondo & Super7, lol).
And about loose joints complaints - half of my NECA figures period, from every line, not just TMNT, ALL have loose ankles, and will not stand unless leaning backwards against something, or with an armature stand supporting their waists.
No exaggeration, EVERY. SINGLE. ONE. OF. MY. FOOT. SOLDIERS. Movie AND Toon, have loose ankles, and because I haven't tried the usual trick for loose ball joints, 3 out of my 4 Toon Frogs have their ankles twist-tied together to keep them from doing the splits, because their hips are so floppy.

I collect toys, only old toys. I find old toys were aimed at kids and young teens, they were a tony bit intimidating, which is something that got moms complaining back in the day. But new toys, they look like they're all aimed at babies.

TBH super 7 would be worth it if the toys were set at 19.99 for all the characters then maybe i'll spend my money until then NECA is the WINNER

In my opinion I like the neca version best looks more like the cartoon, articulated mouth but super7 does better in accessories and soft articulation

The NECA one is the better toy, but the Super7 one just looks way better to me, and not just because of nostalgia. The design of him is just way better than the cartoon design.

How Super 7 Stays in Business, is kinda shocking to me. $55 to $60 or more for some figures, and QC is ALL OVER THE PLACE! sometimes you get a great one, sometimes it's just Trashed.
Though i love Neca, im not Fanboying for them either. sometimes you'll get a really screwed up Neca figure too. hell i ABSOLUTELY *LOVE* Mezco, and even those are hit and miss at times. but those figures are so amazing im willing to deal with a Lemon once in a while, i just send it back and get another one for THOSE. same with Neca or Super 7. i collect a wide range of figures from all sorts of companies, and that's basically my method.. send the defectives back and hope for the best next copy. but Super 7 seems to have more problems than no, more OFTEN than not.
Yeah, if it wasn't so common Super7 could be in a better spot, but it's just too much for one figure
Neca breaks easliy and super7 scales their figures and pretty sure it isnt printing but paint from what they stated, and its apples and oranges because neca does toon while 7 goes for the updated toy version that do scale , maybe check out Ray Fillet and you might change your mind ( not all of 7's are good) but thats the 1 of the figure to base them off in my own eyes , but we are all different. But then again I grew up with the playmates toys so .....

Don't forget that the Super7 Metalhead doesn't like to stand (just like a lot of their TMNT figures). I was disappointed. Not buying anymore, especially at retail price.

In my honest and personal oppinion both Neca and Super7are too stuck in the past. Only making figures from the cartoon and the original comic for Neca and only recreating and one upping stuff from playmates for Super7. Both of these companies could do so much more and better by making figures from 2003 turtles, 2007 movie turtles 2012 turtles, rise, mutant mayhem, bay movie turtles, IDW and even a completely original line. There's so much to draw from. I love my classic turtles and nostalgia as much as the next guy, but i love "everything" tmnt and the later stuff deserves better than what playmates has done with it.
Well, NECA is giving the mass TMNT fans what they want. I think that’s clear. Super7 said they would be doing the 2003 turtles. I’m sure each series and movie requires new licenses, but NECA is offering loads of stuff like different comic lines

At the end of the day it comes down to an individuals opinion. I'm old school, I like the Super 7 version. I do not like the colors and look of the NECA one at all. Also when I buy Super 7, I hardly ever pay retail, I usually always pay below $40 sometimes even bellow $30, I agree retail is way to much!!
