- The City of Phoenix has lost a legal effort to obtain ABC15’s raw reporting. It was an attempt that the news station’s attorneys and outside experts call a retaliatory and troubling attack on the First Amendment.
If only they investigated themselves with as much passion as they do everyone else.
What's the point? It should be obvious to everyone what the conclusion is: "We investigated ourselves, and of course, we didn't find we had done anything wrong."

I once dreamed of living in Arizona. Not anymore, not now that it’s truly become a police state. All of the states are bad (unfortunately), but some are FAR worse than others. Arizona is one of those, and it doesn’t even have a good excuse - even loony Kalifornia isn’t as bad as fascist Arizona!

In this day in time we need true reporters with real investigating that effects each one of us. I am sorry that a pilice department would try to do such a thing and that a city like Phoenix would go along w it. Dave B I don't know how yo spell your last name. But you are a true journalist. And have truly been a hero to so many. I always look forward to your reports. I miss real journalism and I know so many else do. We are blessed to have you in this city, and state.
What a shocker! The City of Phoenix? I can’t believe they would do such things like waste taxpayers dollars on this issue. I recommend from experience that any dealings with the City of Phoenix that you keep any documentation on hand. Parking tickets,speeding tickets any fines you pay..keep the documentation. You won’t regret it..The City of Phoenix doesn’t give a rats a$$ what they did to that woman. A false imprisonment that denied her freedom for 2 years based on what? The word of a bad cop 👮♂️?
My cousin was murdered in Phoenix 10years ago - they caught a guy using his cell phone after the fact and the guy said " Oh, that guy ODed" and the Phoenix cops NEVER MADE AN ARREST ... just took his word for it.
This is so important for our democracy. This kind of corruption needs to be exposed and prosecuted. Lying cops need to go to prison for as many years as they cause innocent victims to spend in prison.
While I agree with what you said I will point out we are not a democracy. We are a constitutional republic. There is a difference and people need to be aware of that. That being said I agree with you. Police and lawmakers need to be held at a much higher standard because of all the power they are giving. They must be held accountable and punished for violating the trust that is placed in them.
The biggest lie and falsity is that this is a BS and inferior Democracy! Those that say such things reveal either their willful ignorance and/or illiteracy of our founding documents and American history! This is supposed to be a Superior and Free Constitutional Republic based on God's Common and Natural Law of Equality!

The entire purpose of news organizations according to the first amendment is government accountability. Not only was reporting in detail the names of any government officials violating their oaths including the police, but allowing government to retaliate is what the first amendment is intended to prevent.
I applaud your reporting and hard work on these stories and hope you continue to push back against these governmental abuses.
You are one of the few mainstream news outlets that still uses ( some) real journalism. Keep up the fight!

There appears to be some serious problems in law enforcement as well in in the judiciary in AZ. As an outsider, I can guarantee neither myself, nor any of my employees, friends, or family will be spending any time in that state until some serious housecleaning is done.

I must have had an unusual public education as we learned about the John Peter Zenger case in junior high school and its influence on the First Amendment. How is it that Phoenix law enforcement and prosecutors don’t have the same basic knowledge I was taught in 7th grade?!

This has been going for a long time! I know people that used to live in Phoenix, and moved out because of the corruption in that police department and district attorney office! Move out of their!

We need the city employees charged directly when civil rights are violated especially since their actions cost the Arizona taxpayers so much money we need for other uses. They need to be required to know the law.

This is part of a very concerning trend of attacks on the press. Raids on newspapers, lawsuits against news organizations and journalists, and more.
Good Journalism keeps the government in check. This is a very good example of that.
This happened in Marion County Kansas, except the police department got a warrant, raided the newspaper building and reporters homes. The stress from the raid likely resulted in the death of one woman. So far, no one has been held accountable.

Withholding exculpatory evidence the way Phoenix did should be a jailable offense. I hope the prosecutor(s) is/are disbarred and police detectives lose their immunity.
Also, Phoenix looks pretty corrupt.

I am 51, and nothing has changed about Phoenix since I left Arizona at 18. Crooked deep south good ol' boy crap has always gone on in the Florida of the Southwest.

I live in California but I’m following Full Disclosure. Kudos to you all! Thank you for this very important work. Are you familiar with the Constitutional Peace Officers and Sheriffs Association? Please look into that organization I think they’re doing good work but the one time I really needed their input and assistance as a member I didn’t get a call back.

You either hold your law enforcement to a higher standard than you hold your more basic citizens, or you get ready for more lawsuits coming out of your cities operating budgets.
Because that's where the lawsuits get settled out of, the City operating funds for infrastructure, schools, maintenance...... the lawsuits don't come out of the police officers pockets. They come out of the taxpayers pockets, demand better from your law enforcement
