- A judge is set to hold a multi-day evidentiary hearing to decide whether to dismiss a first-degree murder case involving a former Phoenix police detective at the center of a continuing scandal. The hearing will explore Det. Jennifer DiPonzio’s repeated mistakes handling evidence and how Phoenix officials and county prosecutors worked to obscure and minimize information about her misconduct.

She should be in prison. Also anyone that helped her. Thank you for covering this story.
Amen 🙏🏼
Her and her husband should be in jail for fraud.
Throw officer in jail but release murderer....that makes a lot of sense.
Ok, boot licker! @chucksucks8640
@@chucksucks8640 no one said let murderer go free, stop with your false propaganda.
Nice "strawman" though.
If you people in Phoenix can't see that your police department is corrupt, there's something wrong with you.
Goes a lot further than the police here….. the husband, prosecutors, detectives, internal affairs…..this is why police should be investigated by non police, people who come from the majority class…you know the little people!! !
lol, you think this is just a Phoenix problem rather than nationwide. Nonsense like this happens and is covered up all the time, you just never hear about it.
What do you expect us to do about it? I actually support defunding all law enforcement because this is a law enforcement issue, not just a phoenix pd issue. Mesa PD is just as bad.

It's not a mistake if it's intentional.
This is what cowardice and corruption looks like and it's not just her it's the whole department

This is just disgusting. Why are they handling this crooked Officer with such kid gloves!
because it will make the DA and the prosecution look bad
Outlaw gangs look after their own. The Blue Gang is no different.
The main reason for the way they handle a case like this with "Kid Gloves" is because when they shake the rug, All the dirt comes out and gets Everywhere!
@@Spaceballz123 Because of her husband.
@@forsale313 thats a really good analogy.
If there's nothing to hide why is the prosecutor fighting so hard against the defense. You bet the department is covering up for her.
The prosecution doesn’t want to have dozens of cases they will likely lose go up for review, so will continue to cover up no matter how reprehensible.

Her husband is an assistant Chief.
she needs to be in jail for fraud!
Why do we continue to frame this as mistakes? Let's give her the benefit of the doubt and assume she didn't do it on purpose. That still leaves incompetence, negligence, dereliction, nepotism or possibly special needs.
Because we live in a police state and the media is a part of it.
Ya and they rewarded her with a disability pension. Of course her husband is an assistant Chief.
Thank you man, this is exactly what I came here to say. Her continuing refusal to testify based on these nonsense health claims (when she is apparently healthy enough to still be working another job (I think I read that in another article so was doing some kind of work in addition to all of her vacations and whatnot) even though she's collecting that disability) just adds another layer of maliciousness to this. Even if it was all just completely honest mistakes, and not willful negligence like it obviously is in reality, her hiding from it like this (and the state's continuing interference it's been running for her as well for that matter) is so telling as to the level of corruption at play here. The state trying to claim that it's no big deal and that the lead investigator somehow only played a minimal role while continuing these prosecutions is honestly disgusting, and it's absolutely criminal that none of them are actually going to face the consequences they deserve.
She was in a relationship with the head officer. He let her run free from her wrong doing.

I LOVE when investigative journalists keep digging and holding liars feet to the fire. I don't even live in AZ and have been following you all's reporting. Good job. Keep at it.
She needs to be in prison. So does her husband. And the Internal Affairs detective, along with her friends in the prosecutors office covering up for her
Stay out of AZ. I was pulled over and arrested for a DUI. I had nothing to drink! I blew a 0.00
They still charged me. They said they had "other" evidence. I spent thousands bonding out and I hired a lawyer, right before court they dropped the charges but never reimbursed me for what I spent.
There are others that they did this to.
No wonder Chief Williams retired. Wanted to get out of there before the DOJ reports and this hits the fan.
Oh boy just wait till' they circle back around to Williams, Walls don't talk but People "under pressure" do.
Interesting how the prosecutor, who is supposed to work for the people, is actually acting as a lawyer for the crooked policewoman, at the taxpayers' own expense.
Actually you're wrong the prosecutor works for the government whatever the government tells the prosecutor that's what the prosecutor does the prosecutor job at the put on a good show that there for the people but the people don't pay their salary the government does and the government takes the money whether you willingly give it to them or not to pay the salaries.
Here's the real truth government works for bigger government that puts on the show that they're for the people but they have long sense quit caring about what the constitutional rights of the people are many many decades ago they only have a few judges that actually roll according to the Constitution but most judges do not rule according to the the constitution.
"Mistake" is a really nice way of saying "incompetence and criminal negligence."
She, and EVERY SINGLE OFFICER who covered for her should be held accountable for the crimes they allowed and serve the FULL SENTENCE for EACH case dismissed.
Lock her up!
I live in Albany, Georgia. You were incredible reporting on this has made me a subscriber!
How can the main detective on a case have a minimum role?
Just follow the Money and all will be explained!
What's going on with the Phoenix PD? From the face of it, this PD seems to be acting as a modern-day Keystone Kops.
Keystone Cops are silly, These People are Narcissist to the 10x with NO accountability for their actions. In response to the allegations, she investigated herself and found no wrong-doing 💁🏻♀️

I answer "Is the system corrupt?"
The answer to both are the same. One is mutually exclusive to the other. So the TLDR is yes.
Too unwell to testify but very well to work 2 other jobs
You have the right to a speedy trial. At the very least the defendant has had his or her rights violated.

In effect, this detective has murdered Justice. Which is a truly heinous crime.
😂 what do you expect Arizona cops take out innocent men in hotel hallways. Then let the one who did it retire on disability for ptsd. They also hangout and watch innocent people drown. Not to mention they try to abolish the forst amendment because they dont like being recorded committing their crimes.
Damn Fine reporting!!! Time to call out these corrupt, unscrupulous criminals!!!
Wonder if she's on paid Christmas vacation 🤔 🧐 ...oops, I meant Adms. leave...
WE HAVE HAD ENOUGH!!!!! Time to end the 2 tier "justice" system. Past time 💥
This retired officer, drawing a pension, will continue to stick a thumb in the eye of the judicial system. She’ll use any means necessary to pursue her charade; she’s practiced this a long, long time. Her “ill health” begins between her ears.
She will be pleading the 5th on her questions thrown at her by the defense team. Wonder if the judge will hold her in contempt if she doesn't answer the questions. My guess is that nothing will happen to her because she will say that she is not medically competent to answer due to mental health issues. 🙂
Thanks for all the hard work, Dave! You’re awesome! Good to see some people still care about justice and are willing fight for it! Keep the pressure on em✊
How is this a mistake? Her and her husband need to be charged with tampering evidence. Her husband is a higher up and that made her feel comfortable to do this.
What does the SCOTUS ruling say it's better to let 100 guilty men go free than 1 innocent man be sent to prison.
Blackstone's ratio
That's a Benjamin Franklin quote, not a Supreme Court decision. If you think the Supreme Court is in the habit of saying things as logical as that then you are sorely mistaken.
Yep but with all the corruption in our “Justice” system it’s now it’s better to let 100 innocent men go to prison than 1 guilty man go free
And anyone that says that is an absolute imbecile/liberal!👍🙄
She is so scared that she doesn’t want to testify at all she knows she will end up in jail
Unfortunately, All parties involved won't follow the same fate which will allow it to continue.
“it is better a hundred guilty persons should escape than one innocent person should suffer." - Ben Franklin

98 cases affected. Perhaps all 98 should be dismissed and although some may be guilty of their charges, maybe they'll take this opportunity to run a clean life after such a good break.
One has to wonder how corrupt the entire department is. It's always worse than we know.
EVERY CASE THAT LAZY LAZY CORRUPT CHEATING COP SHOULD BE DISMISSED AND EVERY DEFENDANT IN PRISON SHOULD BE RELEASED AND GIVEN A NEW TRIAL!!!!!!!!!!
All cop are corrupt
Cops are criminals with badges
yup
Dave, you rock!!!
Every case she was involved in must be immediately reversed with prejudice. Every pending case involving her must be dismissed with prejudice.
Fabricating evidence and lying under oath must not be tolerated.
I am guessing you are a friend of one of the crooks in a case she was involved with. That can be the only reason you are willing to see crooks let go without the test of evidence in court. - - Imagine if you were instead a friend of one of the victims of one of those crooks and wanted to see justice for the bad the crooks did, you would want that justice.
Sickening thing is, that some violent criminals will get away with their crimes because of her felony dereliction of duty.
Thank you ABC15 and Dave for the exceptional coverage of this important matter. Not many would have the courage to persist.
I cannot believe that this guy hasn't been snatched by one of the major networks
This woman belongs in jail for malfeasance in office
Yes she's one of them of course it will
These were not mistakes. They are deliberate falsehoods. Mistakes are not intended. What she did was fully intended. Huge and extremely important difference!
I hope these cases get dismissed, that's what happens when you don't do the job right! People deserve a fair trial, even if they're guilty!
Why is this not insurance fraud? She is NOT medically disabled.
THIS is exactly why police shouldn't be allowed to investigate themselves. Corruption at every turn. Her being married to a leader in the department should have caused them to pass of the investigation to the state or FBI. But that would require honesty and a belief in justice for all.
I have to presume that in some of these cases a murder has occurred and the murderer make walk free. The families of the victims will have no justice because of this "detective".
So…because a detective did not do her job correctly, people charged with murder will get cases dismissed??? WOW….Proud to be an American!!!
Keep em honest Dave 😮😮😮
Revoke any and benefits she’s getting from tax payers. Scammer.
Unfortunately this is not rare. They investigate themselves, say they made a “policy” violation when they really committed all kinds of crimes, and if it gets too public they resign or retire to avoid the heat.
If it was not for a free press, can anyone imagine the total BS that would be going on everywhere?
Great coverage
Maricopa county has way too many problems with it's law enforcement and prosecution departments. It's a shame that all this had to be found out by the local TV station.
Dirty policing is not good for the people who rely on them.
WHERE is the Department of Justice,
I hope he gets set free. I have no idea about his guilt but the corruption is beyond belief. I also hope she gets charged with fraud and has to payback her disability pension.
Standing Salute to this News Agency. This is a huge first step in restoring faith in MSM. However, I suspect she is a Golden Girl ?
Amazing how police and District attorney help cover this up.
Her going on medical leave and then being allowed to retire is unjust and unfair for the taxpayers, and should be redacted! She should be held responsible for her actions, no immunity and whoever did not evaluate her conduct while she was an officer, should also be brought into it and charged!
The judges involved knew the gig was up. ABC is finally showing a commitment to real journalism.
All those people waiting in jail for trial must be crazy.
If there’s a possibility that this person contaminated a case, the case should be dismissed.
That’s what innocent until proven guilty means.
So, by her committing crimes, it is safe to assume all the people in prison are innocent.
What an evil lady
She needs to be sitting in front of a judge for disablity fraud
I doubt any of her cases will be dismissed. Those in power are held to a different standard than the rest of us.

Yet another reason to avoid AZ.
When you fear integrity and accountability, you are NOT the good guys!
She is married to Phoenix assistant chief Nicholas Diponzio. They have been protecting her
Why doesn't anyone ever have the courage to look into what their union is doing?
In this country, the defendant is not put on trial. He doesn't have to testify. We DO, however, put evidence on trial to see if the evidence can withstand scrutiny. Crap police work means crap evidence.
The police in America are an occupying force, and should be able to hold up to public scrutiny.
That detective and every other cop involved should be in jail
Every single case she’s been involved with should be dropped, her actions have tainted the waters
If this was ANYONE ELSE "NON COP" They would have already subpoenad her to come in to court or a warrant would be issued.
They knew about her deficiencies well before she retired. This is what's wrong with modern policing.
If the people of Phoenix won’t hold their government accountable, they deserve the hand that will rule them.
It is unfortunate that an incompetent police officer can get away with all kinds of things illegal. The press is the only reason that she is being held up to any kind of scrutiny.
