- Before going on medical leave and retiring under a confidential disability claim, Phoenix homicide Det. Jennifer DiPonzio mishandled evidence and failed to complete important tasks and interviews. he mistakes have impacted at least 37 court cases and 61 police investigations, but for more than a year, Maricopa County Superior Court judges have been told DiPonzio is too unwell to testify, receive subpoenas, or even be contacted about her cases.

Imagine if government protected citizens the way they protect themselves.
Just imagine if a person did this for subpoena
The Supreme Court ruled that the police have no duty to protect us so anyone who still trust the police is an idiot
If only the government cared about accountability for cops the same way they care about accountability for the average citizen...
But cops get qualified immunity, whereas Joe Schmoe is told that "ignorance is not an excuse"...
Meaning that the average citizen is required to know more about the law than a trained police officer!!!
That would be considered a "We The People" government...that will never happen!!!
Know what's funnier, she's from NY, she learned it somewhere
Phoenix Police Department is a dumpster fire.
Sounds like it. Las Vegas Metro PD had a media report that 75/80% of the entire dept had less than 7yr of work history, experience. 🚔
Seems like many Arizona cops have some serious issues
News flash, all PDs are.
@@johnsterner5238 Bingo
@johnsterner5238 LA county sheriffs have a wrongful death lawsuit of a recent LA county deputy's shooting death. The sheriffs dept dep had worked tons of OT, 16hr 14hr shifts for weeks.
This is criminal on so many levels. Those covering for her need to be indicted.
But they are they never will
This is a RICO case if ever there was one.
They’re nothing more than a badged MAFIA
why is the attorney general and governor not on this case?
How so? Medical leave is legal. She can't have side business?
@@lordy1952, if she’s too unwell to preform her duties as a law enforcement officer, how is she well enough to provide tedious cosmetic services? She’s too unwell to show up to court but well enough to have two other jobs? Stop, sir.
This woman is obviously committing a crime.
Nah! 'Ya think??
Numerous crimes.
@@Chillbillvol2 It's sarcasm, son.
If she was not a cop she'd be forced to testify
She is in contempt of court. Put her in jail.
If she wasn't a cop, she would already be in jail for fraud.
No. She would have a warrant and armed men would come to get her.
its time a judge forced her to come if not able the doctor and all specialist be subpened, with all med records and if needed buy use of warrants and contempt of court charge lock and leave them
The City Manager, Courts and Police Dept should HIRE ABC15 Investigator Reporter, he seems to do a better job with his investigations than they do.
You assume of course the police care. (They don't)
Hahah right
It's true
Only because ABC wants them defunded and this is fuel for the fire
government has a lot more rules than reporters. and rightly so. you don't want to remove limitations on government agents, do you?
Imagine a citizen saying they are too unwell to be contacted. The corrupt system of police and prosecutors cover for their own crimes
I've seen people brought in in wheelchairs and gurneys. No excuse.
I'm too unwell to pay my taxes. that wouldn't go over well.
@@UncleDavesKitchen
Better yet "I'm too unwell to show up for court after being charged for something"
See how that goes over.
I didn't know I could skip court without consequences by simply claiming to "feel unwell".
Don't try it citizen. 🤣🤣
Sure. “Feel” is the loony lefts catch all.
Amber Heard said it “felt” like she was raped by a bottle.🙄
There is clearly so much more to this story, the city is protecting her for a reason! And they are willing to go to great lengths!
the reason is fairly clear here. liability for mishandled cases.
The lawsuits would be immense as well as all the dirt exposed. Corruption works best when you promote people you have dirt on. They will always owe you a favor. And the deep dark circles of corruption goes round and round.
She apparently has a history of mishandling evidence…i bet that has something to do with it
@@acewings221 That's a huge red flag, why would they let it rise to the level of even being a history?
I heard on another report a few weeks ago, that her husband is on the same police force.
This journalist is a better and more thorough investigator than the cops!!!
yet they never look into things like the epstien list and so forth so how good are they really? seems like she has mental health issues from seeing brutal crimes all day every day
Thats common.
This journalist also gets paid likely 5-10 times what a cop gets paid and will never once have to put her life in harms way to do it.
@@darthtechnologies553 you are genuinely an imbecile if you think cops make that much. LA is an anomaly because it costs 50k a year just to live there, so you can't count that.
I made 100k one year, but that took me working an average of 75 hours a week over the course of that year.
In those same cities that you quote for cops pay, the camera man for a reporter makes more than 60k a year. The guy that brings her coffee makes that much.
That's because he's not in the police union.
The people lying for her and coverupshould be held acountable
Obviously something is being covered up …. All lawyers working on cases she is involved in should move for dismissal immediately
Most definitely
What about the defendants? Their right to a speedy trial has been trampled all over by this detective. what scum!
I don't think cops become criminals I think criminals become cops.
This makes no sense.... to go through the process... your claiming the whole system is screwed & no good cops exist
Any arrest or imprisonment by this officer should be null and void...
They should prosecute her and have her pay all money back to the state...
Disability fraud?
Bunch of corrupt politicians and law enforcement. David B. Is a beast in journalism. He does some great important work.
A slug that can't do anything else is doing important work? What was fixed?
Dave is doing actual journalism. It's so refreshing comparatively.
Hispanics cannot be in detective jobs at all. Cultural issues.
This lady did not want to be a detective in the slightest. She wanted the steady paycheck it provided while she pursued something in the health and beauty industry. She’s playing with people’s lives. I smell a class action lawsuit coming against her and the department.
It really says something when a news investigator is a better detective than the so called public servant. Some jail time would be a great opportunity for her to think about dereliction of duty and fraud.
Folks, let's not forget that she was able to get a medical retirement, probably for PTSD, which is TAX FREE for the rest of her life. With that comes FREE medical benefits as well. All this for a dishonest unscrupulous cop. Well done Detective DesPanties!
Pretty frickin sad. They get caught F-ing up and then claim medical issue for early retirement, sounds like a government job.
Criminals in uniform.we have the same type of police in ireland.if the Irish police want to convict they are plant evidence
She should be charged with fraud.
Make her pay.
Fortune Cookie ?
@MadTOM442 Negative Jim, ancient Chinese secret! Besides all you traffic cops stick together!
This entire case needs to be put into someone else's hands. New judge, new prosecutors, new lawyers. Every case she has ever touched has to be thrown out too.
Of course they're covering for her.
If they admit her total incompetence (and theirs for employing her) they'd have to re-investigate every case she was involved in and likely pay $millions in compensation.
They had to do that for a cop that was caught planting drugs on traffic stops, they had to back and review all 130+ of his charges
Cops serve and protect - SERVE THEMSELVES AND PROTECT THEIR FELLOW CRIMINAL COPS.
That's a complete generalisation. All it shows is that you're a halfwit
Exactly right
Their pensions are their #1 priority.
@@dukecraig2402 yep, greedy savages!
She should be arrested by the feds… straight away
Please stay with this story. Your work will uncover the fraud, lies and incompetence of many who are involved with this case. To misrepresent to the court about one’s health is criminal. If people lose there jobs then so be it. As it stands they never should have had them in the first place. Keep pushing for the truth and accountability.
Married to the asst chief... If she can't show up, then her husband who's obviously covering for her should have to.
Again, he cant directly testify to issues she was solely involved in; Heresay rules would apply. She was bisted manufacturing evidence. She altered documents, and submitted at discovery after the defense obtained/verified the originals...
Oh my busted @@brentfarvors192
It doesn't matter what Di Ponzio is currently up to! WHERE THE FREAK IS HER SUPERVISOR! THEY ARE ULTIMATLEY RESPONSABLE!
The supervisor cant directly testify as to her disrepancies. Anything said would be heresay...She cant testify, because the accusations are correct, and it will drop all the other cases like dominoes...They would need to investigate every case from scratch; Granting every suspect the defense advantage...
@@brentfarvors192 Then so B it .
The judge should drag her ass in to court.
Because if she doesn’t, she’s a part of the problem
I want to thank you guys for the work you do. Truth is, the entire system is corrupt. And I appreciate you shinning light on it.
This is real journalism. If the Press gets its act together and starts exposing the corruption at all levels of government instead of being complicit in the silence, our country might actually heal.
Keep the pressure on Dave!
Just when you think the worst about Phoenix PD has come out it...
What is it about this department, and elected officials, that let it keep getting worse year after year?
Qualified immunity, and that awful "sheepdog" nonsense put out by the fraud Grossman
It's very impressive how supportive and accommodating the justice system is for Diponzio, what an amazing asset she is. I hope she feels better soon so the department can promote her!
All they got to do is check with State and get a copy of her W-4 anything that's public information it also has to be filed with the Internal Revenue Service to pay taxes and the state that they're in will have taxes paid. She had to file for a business license that's proof she was not incapacitated. These people need to start filing lawsuits against her.
She must have dirt on everyone from the judge down to the janitor to be protected the way she is. Why is she still receiving disability and working? Also how did she get approved for disability so quick. Most people wait 1.5 t0 2 years.
She probably provides ' service' to the decision makers in that area. 😭😭
I believe her husband is a deputy chief.
And anyone in custody pending trail has to be released to avoid liability for damages. WTF! We work and if we don't we become homeless and end up in jail. But this woman doesn't have to work or at least show up for work she got fired for? She must be a hot mess with SMI or an addiction.
So this woman sounds like she’s clearly incompetent and how she made it to detective status is a really big question but the follow up you guys are doing is incredible. Great work!!
How she got there?? Who's her husband? 😉
She spit and swallowed her way to the position...That's how!
A Ponzi scheme is one thing but a Diponzio scheme is what exactly?
MLM. Amway scammer.
The same thing, except with innocent peoples freedom...
Anyone who thinks this is an isolated incident is seriously naive. these type of situations are happening all over the place all around the world.
That's a fact! This is no longer a one off or small percentage thing. It happens in nearly every municipality. Corruption runs deep.
Yeah but this is happening in America. And it's happening in Arizona again. So it seems like a pattern. So the whole world yes is having problems but this is our local problem that is not being addressed properly. So you're funny. Do you need a hug or something honey?
@@slrsouth64no
Um, no, not all over the world. Mostly just in America. However, since you're probably American, you are likely unaware that there is a rest of the world, with 25X as many people living there, so we'll just let you sink back into the mud of your ignorance.
Wallow away ...
This is true and it’s been going on since the beginning
Im not even from Arizona but this reporter’s are on point
Because she retired. She is allowed to be rehired. People need to make sure she is on the Brady list
Arrest and Jail. She is obstructing justice.
This is what reporting and the news should look like. Keep digging till you get the truth. Great work.
Sounds like she is being coached up by her Asst Police chief husband. I bet the cases she has screwed up on are very important cases!!
"Confidential" medical leave as a government employee should not exist. The People have a right to know where and to whom their tax dollars are going and for what reason. The mere fact that she is working other job despite being on "medical" leave is highly suspect. If nothing else she is willfully defrauding the taxpayer's who continue to pay her salary. The Arizona AG should be getting involved in this incident.
This is a crazy take. Government employees are entitled to constitutional privacy protections the same as anyone else, especially involving health and medical records. That said, falsifying medical claims to avoid working / accountability / testifying in court is a whole different problem and if she is able to work she should be able to go to court. The issue isn't about if she deserves privacy for her medical history, it's about the City not properly investigating and enforcing rules and lying to the courts.
So instead of being fired years ago for not doing her job... she's allowed to retire with full pension and benefits for life. 😂Happens nearly every single time. Do something horrible as a public official. Just retire quietly under a cloak of secrecy. Qualified immunity. Police Union protection. Good luck suckers! 🤷 And we're the suckers.
SECOND Phoenix officer to get "Medical Retirement" AFTER getting in BIG Trouble as an Officer after it get's put on the Internet. First Time was the officer that "Tazed" the man in the groin.
SAD...Confidential "Medical Retirement" is WRONG.
The people should be ablebto sue the city that employed here and sue for damages and added stress and mishandling of eveidence and storage of eviedence
She should be forced to pay back every cent of the disability pay.
Wow Arizona. Who would have guessed that the people in charge of the government there would not want to do their jobs properly. Thin Blue line. Where are you thin blue line people? Very quiet when a cop is breaking the law?
Your a troll and poor one at that. Go to the park and fly your cheap $90 drone kiddo.
This story is just ridiculous! You know the good ole boys club got her promoted and kept her on the force! She's a cop. We gotta watch out for her! We'll done investigators!
Really makes you wonder who the 'big fish' is in this story. Seems the police & attorneys are protecting her. A regular citizen could expect a swat-knock in middle of nite, at minimum, for lesser offences.
Inocent people in jail saying "once they see the evidence, I'll be free." Like what evidence?
This is outrageous and no court can or should block anyone concerned from getting information from her.she should pay for all court case hearings not completed.
Strange, this would usually result in cases being thrown out entirely and even convictions being overturned. but even if she IS on leave, the mishandling of evidence would be something immediately investigated under internal affairs - this is straight up a "this makes us look INCREDIBLY bad, cover it up. at any cost".
I smell the biggest rat that you can fine. Keep up the great work guys I’m in Houston Texas and I’m following you guys.
Bottom line is the total delay and denial of justice. Both for victims and accused. Those protecting this officer should face the laws themselves!
If she can get "BUSY" she CAN testify
Amazing how these medical issues did not affect her having multiple jobs and partying until her dirt came to light. She us out there fully living life but still too sick? Cmon man! Open an FBI probe onto this cover up.
A detective like this is why my loved one's murder still isn't solved 6 1/2 years later. She should've stepped down if she couldn't do her job. Instead she hurt countless victims and victim's families. Pathetic.
Guess next time a court wants to talk to me i'll just call in sick.
This officer should be fired and lose any retirement funds. Every case that she has ever handled should be investigated and dismissed. Just imagine how many people are sitting in jail because they do not have money to bail out and they’ve been sitting there rotting while this disgusting individual is claiming to be too ill to come into court or to even work. It is so wrong to leave people sitting in jail, and their cases being put on hold indefinitely.
Why is she retired and not FIRED! Why is she not held accountable???
can you imagine joe public avoiding being present in court stating feeling under the weather and not getting arrested for ignoring a court order.
THANK YOU!!!! Omg Ty soo much ❤❤❤❤❤❤🎉 don’t stop ! Also very exciting investigation work!!! 👍
Anyone else their disability would be dropped. If she could not testify in front of à judge then how was she able to speak with her attorney.
The only thing David needs to do now is, to put a shout out to the public about anyone with evidence that shows they received any of her services during the time that she was on medical leave.
There’s that qualified immunity hard at work.
Great job! Please keep up us updated.
Those cases should be thrown out and re opened entirely. Terrible oversight by her administrators. Its a disgusting slap to the justice system. A complete disgrace.
While, if-true, the behavior is very concerning -- I'm more troubled by the judge. The judge took the lawyer's say-so with nothing backing it up. That's crazy!
Incompetent or corrupt or both. She held life and death over defendants. True evil.
So what I am hearing is a doctors note gets me out of testifying before this judge.
City manager, "Don't start, Dave."
Yet people blindly back the blue, as if this is the exception and not the rule.
Bet she come to court as a plaintiff if you cut off her disability pay - - like to hear her tell the judge she well enough to testify to get paid, but not to put someone in jail
And people think it's just a "few bad apples".
This stinks of a big cover up. Who decided to let her medically retire and get taxpayers money for the rest of her life? If she's working other jobs while she's on "medical leave" that's fraud. They're saying she had "mishandled evidence." So that means nobody was overseeing her work. So her supervisors should be subject to discipline also. This really stinks. The States attorney and the FBI need to be called in.
You are the man Dave!!💪🏼✊🏼👊🏼
Keep up the great investigative reporting my man and be careful…….You are dealing with corrupt criminals who are a bunch of thugs!
If she is too unwell to testify then make her sit in a jail cell until she is well enough to testify and watch and see how quick she becomes well again all of a sudden
Too unwell to do her time. Lock her up!
Great reporting!!
Great work
Remember folks, this is because a mayor and city council members have allowed a system that condons this behavior.
This is unacceptable on any level.
I think the investigation should probably extend to her husband who happens to be the assistant chief of that department. There’s no way he didn’t know she was doing this if they are still married and living together. What does that say about his ethics and how should any of us consider him of high moral character that’s required of an assistant chief?
Show me a law enforcement officer and I’ll show you a criminal with a badge.
Seems like a lot of odd things happen in AZ. I am glad reporters are actually using their abilities for the greater good.
Absolutely ridiculous how much is going into protecting this woman
Need to make sure she can not work in the justice system ever again.
Oh, but she will. retired and or resigned, not fired or convicted of anything..yet.
Isn't qualified immunity great??
LMAO-Trying to talk to the city manager-“Dave, don’t start” 😂😂😂
Can people accused of crimes claim to be unable to testify due to health reasons???
I mean, I have have to have a Dr's note to get out of work, wtf.
There’s not a single Phoenix cop that knows to be an actual human being.
This trick needs TO BE FIRED FROM PPD! 😮
u guys r amazing for the storries u cover thank u
Thank you Dave ❤
Don’t you need a doctors note or something to go on medical leave.
This situation reeks of corruption. The Detective is married to a police Assistant Chief, who I suspect used his influence to get his wife placed on indefinite sick leave and in an effort to insulate her from being able to testify. Both the police and the city do not want her to testify about the particular case and her other errors or omissions because doing so would jeopardize the current investigations as well as call into question the other closed cases that she worked on. This would cause extreme embarrassment to the police force and could prove very costly to the district attorney’s office and the city to have to reopen closed convictions. That is why the police force, district attorney’s office, and the city have circled the wagons. They could care less about the detective, but they want to avoid the scandal that would follow from having her egregious conduct on public display.
One cop to another “ why does the public hate us so much?”
Every Cas she has been involved in will have to be dismissed . Imagine if a police officer was able to go out in public and commit a felony and get away with it , wouldn't that be terrible
