Jennifer DiPonzio mishandled evidence and failed to complete important tasks and interviews. he mistakes have impacted at least 37 court cases and 61 police investigations, but for more than a year, Maricopa County Superior Court judges have been told DiPonzio is too unwell to testify, receive subpoenas, or even be contacted about her cases.

If only the government cared about accountability for cops the same way they care about accountability for the average citizen...

That said, falsifying medical claims to avoid working / accountability / testifying in court is a whole different problem and if she is able to work she should be able to go to court. The issue isn't about if she deserves privacy for her medical history, it's about the City not properly investigating and enforcing rules and lying to the courts.

This story is just ridiculous! You know the good ole boys club got her promoted and kept her on the force! She's a cop. We gotta watch out for her! We'll done investigators!

Really makes you wonder who the 'big fish' is in this story. Seems the police & attorneys are protecting her. A regular citizen could expect a swat-knock in middle of nite, at minimum, for lesser offences.

Strange, this would usually result in cases being thrown out entirely and even convictions being overturned. but even if she IS on leave, the mishandling of evidence would be something immediately investigated under internal affairs - this is straight up a "this makes us look INCREDIBLY bad, cover it up. at any cost".

This officer should be fired and lose any retirement funds. Every case that she has ever handled should be investigated and dismissed. Just imagine how many people are sitting in jail because they do not have money to bail out and they’ve been sitting there rotting while this disgusting individual is claiming to be too ill to come into court or to even work. It is so wrong to leave people sitting in jail, and their cases being put on hold indefinitely.

This stinks of a big cover up. Who decided to let her medically retire and get taxpayers money for the rest of her life? If she's working other jobs while she's on "medical leave" that's fraud. They're saying she had "mishandled evidence." So that means nobody was overseeing her work. So her supervisors should be subject to discipline also. This really stinks. The States attorney and the FBI need to be called in.

I think the investigation should probably extend to her husband who happens to be the assistant chief of that department. There’s no way he didn’t know she was doing this if they are still married and living together. What does that say about his ethics and how should any of us consider him of high moral character that’s required of an assistant chief?

This situation reeks of corruption. The Detective is married to a police Assistant Chief, who I suspect used his influence to get his wife placed on indefinite sick leave and in an effort to insulate her from being able to testify. Both the police and the city do not want her to testify about the particular case and her other errors or omissions because doing so would jeopardize the current investigations as well as call into question the other closed cases that she worked on. This would cause extreme embarrassment to the police force and could prove very costly to the district attorney’s office and the city to have to reopen closed convictions. That is why the police force, district attorney’s office, and the city have circled the wagons. They could care less about the detective, but they want to avoid the scandal that would follow from having her egregious conduct on public display.
