I think this video is for the ecologist's students. He mentions their using his cameras. My guess is he doesn't want students not closing the doors properly and ruining the cameras.
Don't take them in the water? That's what these are made for! Just check your hatches (the camera warns you if they are improperly closed)! I do fieldwork underwater in streams and ponds and this piece of equipment takes better pics underwater if I jam it 6 in. under and shoot randomly than I do trying to plan a shot. Don't avoid it's top feature...
I actually posted this video for my students, who borrow my cameras for research. I don't do any aquatic research and worry they forget about seals etc. and try it out and ruin the camera. It works if you're pedantic about triple checking the seals, and I'm sure it would take amazing shots.
You mention that it is necessary to charge the battery in the camera. There are very cheap chargers available for these batteries which work very well.
How do you find they work? I've bought two external (non-Olympus) chargers, and they pretty stay on the "charge" mode indefinitely, and when I use the batteries, they don't seem to last as long. But maybe I got two dud chargers...
@@ecologicalechoeswithresear9786 The one I am currently using was bought in Cordoba to charge my Pentax WG3, so quite some years ago now. It did well then. It is charging my new Olympus batteries - as far as I can ascertain - perfectly well. It is a mains charger dedicated to this battery type and is called, enterprisingly, Travel Charger (Made in China). It cost in the photographic shop there a princely €5. I haven't yet tried out the universal charger that I also used in those times. That was a bit more fiddly but functioned well enough. Am trying it now, called a Yanec, so more later. It seems like a pot luck situation perhaps! A bit more recently I bought a Hama in Germany but that is a USB charger and used for Sony batteries. Hope this is helpful to some degree.

I'm using VSDC video editor, but it's not the best. I'm sure there's something better out there - the learning curve was a bit steep for something quite simple. Glad you enjoyed the review.
Hello Alastair, you've video is so timely for me. I've recently purchased this camera. I was trying to figure out what that white flashing icon (6:48)on my screen was... the satellite icon. I don't want it on at all and I followed your instructions about turning it off but I can't seem to do it. I must be missing a step although I cant's see where. Could you please go over that slowly and step by step? I would be greatly appreciative! Many thanks!!!
The TG6's high-resolution screen blacks out in sunlight, as smartphone screens are notorious for doing. That is a major drawback to a camera intended specifically for outdoor use.
I have a problem. How to coordinate flash light. The photo either dark or with white ugly shadow of the flash. Even with a flash diffuser not very good 😢
Not something I want to tell my students who this video was originally aimed at. You can take it down there, but make sure you check the seals really carefully before taking them underwater.
This is one of the best videos. Thanks
Best video on TG-6
This cam is acctually great for underwater
so nobody has to be worried, I didnt understand why you told otherwise, but anyways great video

I take mine snorkelling all the time. They are fine, just a quick clean out before you go and you are sweet.
Brilliant video Alastair, cheers!

Exactly what I was looking for, thank you!
Good review thank you, debating to buy this camera. Glad you mentioned the video is not that great. Also I was going to use this for snorkling.
I found the camera quite good for underwater pictures

However, it was a very helpful video. Thank you.

The Yanec has also successfully charged Li-92B
You might want to do another video on the software you used for putting the time lassoes together. Thanks again! Vancouver Island Canada 🇨🇦

This camera is built for underwater use and highly recommended for that. Your warning is ridiculous.

do you have detailed insight regarding the GPS feature: satellite chart and whatnot that I don't clearly understand. thank you
These cameras can go into water to a depth of 30 feet.

How can I download the picture to my phone
How far away from the camera can voice note pick up your voice clearly please?
Any idea why my TG6 stops recording after about 18mins of video?
I've noticed the same thing... Not sure!
Hello there,
Can use microscope to make a video?
greetings from The Netherlands
Yes you can.
What is the GPS format for the camera?
The exif reports both degrees minutes second and decimal degrees.
Is the number of shots in time lapse limited if memory card doesn't have capacity to accommodate ?
Yup. Definitely.
You can barely hear you on your video.
you have to get a proper mic
