I just love Blackmagic... Wow. Those two things - Image Sharpening and Noise Reduction are the biggest flaws in these Android phones, they're so bad it's mind boggling. Turn off both and even cheap midrange phone can produce really nice video. Installed this on my Samsung A53 (sideloaded) and you have really nice pocket video camera for sure. Slightly reduce chroma noise in DaVinci afterwards, sharpen a tad and you're golden.
I just installed the APK in my Red Magic 9 Pro. I have tried using it with an external drive up to 2TB and it works perfectly. I dont think i will need my BMPCC 4K anymore as my phone can record in up to 8k and has 16GB of RAM. Video is flawless and goes straight into the SSD.
It seems like you have used mcpro24fps best among all
Wonderful
Finally available for my phone, it just took a couple of hours for them to update the compatible devices (or maybe that was cached by the play store)
Now my S21fe officially supported. But this app is no where near filmic pro, mcpro24 or proshot. The reason is lack of log profiles. Without log, flat or raw, there's no use with any such apps over the native camera app's promode.
yeah youre right an app that was just released isnt on par with other apps that have been out forever... impatient idiot
the camera hardware has to offer a log profile, no app should be able to to add it, if the cameras API doesn't offer it. I think there was a workaround where one app was using like photos to create RAW photos, and then putting them together as frames, but in general, a Log profile would be used to encode the data from the camera sensor, if you don't have access to the sensor data or an API that gives you a log output, you don't gain any benefits from a log profile.
Same thing for bit rates, the cameras hardware will either give you 10 bit or 8 bit, but no app can make it so that an 8 bit signal becomes 10 bit. BMC app is just an interface to your phone's hardware.
@@MaximoJoshua THe android API usually opens access to the RAW sensor data and MCPro uses that and applies their own log curve. I use it for some RAW video with my workflow in Resolve that I use with regular cDNG files and it works surprisingly well. I apply the Arri LogC curve in post.
@@alihammad6318 yeah, i think they are getting still RAW frames (which the api does support) and then turning them into a video. It's a workaround that should work for Android phones that support RAW photos. Would be kind of cool if BlackMagic used that to introduce BlackMagic Film Gen 5 or something, but it is probably not very straightforward (it would take a lot of development work).
Right now on the iPhone, BlackMagic just uses the video API's directly, which is why they only support the profiles that the camera provides for video (although I bet you might be able to do the same thing because Apple also supports RAW).
But that was what I was trying to get across, the BMCA is acting as an interface to the API's of the camera itself.
Do you know what phones offer that? I am curious because it seems like a pretty slow API, so not sure how they are handling high frame rates etc.
Reading up on it, it seems like it takes 500ms to get the raw image, which is way too slow for video, but maybe they just buffer it?
Because after you get the raw data, you have to debayer it yourself (from what i understand), I am actually curious if it would be possible to just get the RAW video out of the camera...debayer it in resolve.
i have s22ultra, there is no LOG or raw usage with blackmagic. Even doesnt let me choose bitrate. So samsung's native camera app also does everything blackmagic does.
Also, it has tons of bugs like " When you change a different lens, it goes HD resolution you had to re-set your resolution everything you change lens.
😮😮 I still have a 6 pro and intend to use in connection to my Atem Mini switcher. 🎉🎉 Thanks for the update. 😊😊
Hey, so I was shooting a video with my S23 Ultra and noticed the Blackmagic Android camera stabilization wasn't working. I checked the camera settings but couldn't find anything to turn it on. Do you know how to fix it?
We need an update for some Galaxy A series (starting with the A5 range, 2021 and up)
With 60 fps support on it, only for 1080p
Shooting on s24 ultra..h265 and 4k. Is it in 10bit or 8 bit ?
Hi, thanks for your video update on the BC app. Is there any way to record video in Log mode? I have a Xiaomi 12 Ultra and I could use that option for sure. Thanks!
Hi Michael, great video ! Are you able to use the HDMI out feature with a USB-C to HDMI dongle + HDMI cable + Capture Card (that's how I think I would do it) on your Pixel 6 Pro ? That would be amazing but from what I've heard it doesn't support video output through USB (Displayport Alt Mode). Thank you !
Very nice thanks I have the 6 pro and use it with a remote pan tilt tripod head. Would love to find some way for remote zoom
Hey Michael, on your Pixel 6 or Pixel 6 Pro do you have the option of 60fps? Btw many thanks for all your great videos.
Yes it has
Working with my Blackview BV9300 Pro on Android 13
my samsung s22 ultra just got into that list, but only supports recording in rec709. is that better than the native camera app?
Hey, I have a current problem I recently just changed from Filmic Pro to Black Magic. I was just wondering if you could help me myself in this issue my issue being is that I am running into vocal clipping even without on microphone attached to the phone it’s appearing to be very loud and I do not know how to control the mic level to the actual phone. Is there anything you could help me out with that I can sort? This out plz
Not compatible with fold 6. 😢 I'll try the note 9
yeey, they added support to s22, but no log profiles and no 10bit 😑😑
Thanks much mate, sounds like no raw options 😊❤
I wonder,,it shows your device is not compatible even if i have snapdragon 888 and android 14 latest..What i have to do now ?
Is this app can take photos? Or just video?
is it compatable for Samsung s9 ultra tablet? i m planning on buying one...
no remote monitoring for android?
Bro how is the stabilization on the pixel 6 pro?
But...without any LOG capability iits a little bit off
how do you connect bluetooth. microphone to blackmagic apps on android?
amazing, thank you very much 😊
no remote monitoring for Andriod?
Is not supported on Xiaomi Redmi Note 13 Pro Plus 5G, but with my last year Poco F5 Pro it's is. WTF?
Stabilization doesn't work on Pixel 7 Pro
why only support on flagship phone?
Don't see toggle for 8bit or 10bit +Is there any way to select bit rates? Thanks
Using my Pixel 8 Pro I can choose "BT2020 HLG10" colorspace in the settings, which gives 10bit video, but works only for up to 30fps. Otherwise, Rec709 colorspace is used automatically with 8bit files.
it's like taking on the Sony Xperia line Photo/Video modes, without doing it directly😂 and saying that Sony lines are not for "non-photography" peeps. 😊
I have the s24 ultra but I don't see the anamorphic lens settings in it
Does it give you LOG on s24 ultra? Im planning on getting that phone for that reason
@EzraaaDave nope. Blackmagic doesn’t create their own LOG. They take advantage of AppleLOG on the iPhone and as far as I know no current android phones have a native log?
sad to see sony xperia is not on the list
It loads on my S24 Ultra, v1.2.0025. I'll have to say it sucks compared to my iphone. I mean it really sucks! Not sure what's going on, but the footage is really jerky, not stable at all. It's either dropping frames, or there's no stabilization at all. It really is unusable. Again, not sure if it's an Android thing, a Samsung thing. Whatever it is, It's just not good. I'M SAD ! ☹
no RAW or prores recording is a failure...
ProRes is owned by Apple. Each phone manufacture would have to get licensed to have ProRes.
@@initialfocus so, it's useless...h264 or h265 is heavily compressed.
need some type of log😞
Unless each specific phone company does what Apple did with AppleLOG it would all be fake LOGs. You cannot have a general LOG that would work well and the same for different types of camera models.
@@initialfocus if it was at least similar to Filmic Pro or a lite flat profile that would be ok. Even if they charged for it like Filmic did since they gave us a free app
@@initialfocus i'll take a fake Filmic Pro style LOG for my phone. Especially from them
@hoodaffairstv but that is what I learned a while back from pro colorists. All those fake logs did was essentially desaturate, remove contrast and some other tweaks. Their LUTs just then re added those….if you really want that look then just make your own LUT by doing those steps hah.
@@initialfocus yeah, exactly, log profiles are useful because they can fit more info into the same size container (oversimplified), so this means it has to be done via the camera firmware as it reads the sensor and encodes it to a file. If you start with Rec709 or something, you will never be able to get anything higher than what you started with. Its the same thing with 8 bit and 10 bit. If the phone doesn't offer it, no app can really do anything about that (might be one exception where I believe one app used RAW photos to try to stitch together a log video).
its all just math at the end of the day.
My oneplus 9pro not see in playstor. Why brother?
Because currently this app support only two models series Samsung S series or Google pixel 6-7-8
not working on my poco x6
S22 ultra is now supported.
Is anyone else having issues with stabilization?
You have to go and choose optical for stabilization, it's off by default for all lens
It's available in India and s23
I have a s21fe but it says its not supported
Working now
Does the 24 support it
@@anthonysblogs.7763 absolutely!!!!
I just got the Google pixel 8a, this supports it but my Google pixel 6a does not, fix, download it on the new device and make sure bith phones have the same email, I downloaded it on the pixel 8a, then on the bottom it says download on the pixel 6a and then I clicked on it and it installed, if I did that on my pixel 6a without the 8a it would not work for me.
i have pixel 6a and it's working fine for me
@@jagruti-vd3zf I couldn't do it on mine 😭😭😭😭😭
@@mystiquefilms5 idk the issue maybe try updating your system 🤧
@@jagruti-vd3zf it works now just had to cop the pixel 8a 💀
How does the app work? I would like to buy a Pixel 8 and I'm interested in knowing how it works with the use of the app, so maybe I'll get more use out of its camera.
I hope to support the Arabic and Spanish languages with videos, thank you
What about nothing phone 2a
Try it
hi
I can't shoot stills?
Find it odd that you can't take a picture yet it's got tonnes of video options.
I'd dump my stock camera app otherwise.
Blackmagic is a pro video capturing company…not still photography.
@@initialfocus really doesn't matter, I get it it's a video focused app, just needing two for the same thing isn't really efficient...
Plus tbh from what I've seen from the footage, my stock one works better anyway.
Rendering this pointless
