Absolutely fantastic once more! Thank you, Simon. I'll share a link to this tutorial across all the Facebook groups to which I belong, including my own.
Great video! I use shutter angle because it will remain consistent as I change frame rate. So if I’m at 24p, a 180° shutter is approximately 1/48, but if I go to 60p and want a consistent look, 180° should be 1/120. A small detail, but useful.
Leaving a comment as your videos have been really helpful in understanding my two newest bits of kit - iPhone Pro (using this app) and DJI pocket. Genuinely great, efficient, clearly instructed, informative videos. Rarity on RUclips!
Thank you. Just replaced my 11 Pro 64gb with 15 Pro Max 1TB. I was gifted a Lumix S5 with 50mm last year but sadly I haven’t used it much. It’s great and all but I’m contemplating on selling it. I’m more of a run and gun type, and with the S5 in a cage, I don’t really like taking it everywhere with me. The iPhone with this app, case with ND filters attachment and smaller/lighter accessories maybe a gimbal, it suits me better. We’ll see.
I would like to keep my camera (iPhone) fixed in one position, I guess I do that by going to “camera / lock current orientation”? And thanks for the VERY useful video!
While you are correct about the need to keep ISO as low as possible to reduce noise on a normal digital camera, the iPhone 15 Pro, at least, makes that decision more complex. Even when shooting outdoors during the day, Gerald Undone in his "Dynamic Range Test" here on RUclips found that setting the ISO to 1250 optimizes Dynamic Range when shooting Apple Log. And of course, when doing that outside, an ND filter would be required.
For pulling focus on the 15 pro and up I have seen good luck with the Tilta Nucleus nano 2 wireless as it can connect to any black Magic Camera (and iPhone camera app) and pull focus like normal. Albeit, a pricey endeavor but works across iPhone and other professional set ups.
thank you for your tutorial; I wonder if it is possible to manage the depth of field, to obtain the bokeh like in the cinema mode of the native iPhone app?
I have been using this app for a couple of weeks. I have found that there is a a slight mismstch between video and sound. The sound is slightly ahead if the video. Anyone else found this? I am using 25 FPS and 48 kHz with the iPhone microphone set on Auto.
Amazing. every video you make is soo well-thought. Thanks. Question. How can I white balance using a grey card with Black Magic Cam app? In Filmic Pro, you zoom in to cover the screen with the grey card, then enable auto white balance, then lock it, and then zoom out back again. Does it make sense to use the same process work in Black Magic cam app? Thank you so much for your time!
Simon: great video as always . Am I right in thinking there is no slow motion recoirding setting?. ( Other than record at 4k 60 fps and then slow it downmanually in post?) Thanks!
Hi Simon, I really enjoy your videos - so thorough and well presented. I noticed that the BM app (and also the Filmic pro) doesn't do as good a job as the native iphone 15 pro max on the 0.5 for macro shots - for example for the exact same shot when I switch between the native to the BM app it doesn't seem to capture at all well - it struggles to focus and much less detail - why is that I wonder? I am finding for macro shots the native app is better unless I am missing something...?
Thanks 🙏 this is what I do but I can’t control shutter or ISO on the native IOS app so I am struggling to do any decent macro shots. Why can’t BM do this if Apple can? Just wondering? Would you agree that for macro video I am probably better off using a DSLR given these limitations?
Awesome video as always! I seem to have a problem or there is a bug. When I overexpose using shutter speed I don’t get zebras. Only when I use the faux exposure compensation slider.
Hi Simon, great tutorial, one thing I noticed using the 'cinematic' or 'extreme' modes in stabilisation, you can't use the lock focus and exposure feature, as soon as you hit record it just goes out of focus, at least that is what happens on my Iphone 15 Pro Max anyway, it's fine in standard and off modes, have you noticed this at all?
strange, I wonder if it's a bug with the Pro Max? I uninstalled and reinstalled the app to see if that was the problem, but it was still the same, the lock focus and exposure in the native iPhone app works fine.@@HorrocksoniPhone
Quick question, i don’t know how to clear the camera setting on the camera page, or do i have to go into setting every time to “reset camera setting” and do all my camera settings again to film the next scene. Pls help

I am also using a usb-c audio interface to record audio. Any help/suggestions/brainstorms is GREATLY appreciated!
