These are the stories that society doesn’t want to talk about and the jobs that we don’t want to acknowledge. Thank you to Doug, Susana and Carl for shining a light on an industry that operates in the shadows. Please share this video with a non-vegan in your life so that these stories can be heard. Thank you so much for watching.
As a vegan I find it hard to empathize with slaughterhouse workers. But we must acknowledge that there are non-vegans who do not care about animals and the only way of possibly getting through to them is through their compassion for their fellow humans. Hopefully this will touch an otherwise untouchable human. 🤍
@@NoInjusticeLastsForever Many of these people are desperate for a job. Here in the US, I understand that most workers in these jobs are immigrants with very limited options for work. One of those in the video mentioned his ignorance that led him to think that eating animals was needed for humans to thrive. I was once that ignorant despite a college education. When I met my first vegan, I asked her- "Where do you get your protein?" Our culture indoctrinated us into Carnism to think this way
I went to school with a kid, a year younger than me, moved to Texas in the early 70s. The only job he could get was working in a slaughterhouse. He was a pretty good, stable kid, a lil' wanderlust in him. He did about 10 years working in the slaughterhouse then moved back to Ohio. I saw him in a bar in the early 80s. He was 'unhinged', thin, pale, a shadow of his former self. I bought him a beer and got him talking. A little catching up. He was withdrawn, had that thousand-yard stare. His job was to kill the cattle in the stall. He said after a while he could communicate with the cattle. They knew what was at hand. He could feel their fear. He said one day just the look in a doomed cow's eyes was enough to break him. Drank himself to death by the mid-80s. Didn't make it to 30 years old. R.I.P. Bobby Vance.
Clearly the guilt and trauma he felt over what he'd done and seen destroyed his psyche. Instinctually, we know it's wrong to do these things to animals, to treat them as expendable, as currency, as objects. People, please don't ignore that voice in you that reminds you your choice contributes to their suffering. Now is the perfect time to change.
@@NonyaSmithThey are our currency. That is literally all they are good for. Cows are not aurochs, chickens are not jungle fowl, sheep aren't their wild ancestors. These farm animals were artificially made by us for their products and their meat, they aren't even natural. Few of them could even survive in the wild at all. Modern farm sheep wil literally smother to death under their own wool without constant human shearing. One of the only farm animals that could survive on its own is the pig, but it would be so invasive and destructive like its hog cousin that they would all have to be killed rather than released anyways.
"I told them I wanted to work with animals ... strangely, they decided it was appropriate to put me as a butcher." If this doesn't summarize what's wrong with our goddamn society I dunno what does. Holy fuck.
Atrocity, my arse, you wouldn't have the physical constitution you have if all your ancestors had been surviving on vegetable matter, that's for sure. Can't you see you're just being played by authority as part of an agenda to stop people from eating nutritious food?
One day we will look back as a society with horror at the way we treated animals. Just as we look back now at how bad slavery was. May that day come soon.
like we do now with slavery, women who were beaten up with no justice or safe haven, children getting molested. it takes a long time for humans to get past ignorance. it's like it's built in us to be ignorant and evil.
Man, really had to hold back that tear. Once you go vegan, the reality you wake up in is horrible. When I look at most humans, I see creatures just living for their own enjoyment and entertainment. Life is so unmeaningful to so many of us, it truly hurts. Why is a goddamn steak more important than a life? Going vegan is one of the best decisions in my life. I really hope that during my lifetime, things will change massively. Thank you Ed, and thank you all vegans.
@@MasterMoron In GODS" eyes, both are equally important, both are gods' children, mastermoron. Your compassion is underwhelming to say the least. Animl ag troll?.
@@MasterMoronliving up to your name there. Why is the fleeting pleasure you get from a 15 minute meal (that could have easily been gotten without killing a creature) more important than that creature's entire life? Who are you to take it from them?
@@MasterMoron I did not claim that. When I can choose between leaving a feeling creature alone or letting it be killed, I choose the former. That doesn't make the cow "more important". Eating animals is not necessary for you.
The impact on these workers is such an overlooked part of the animal industry. As someone that grew up in a dairy farm I understand a little bit about what they went through and what they're processing now.
Check out BiteSizeVegan and Joey Carbstrong talking about how some messed up slaughterhouse workers have become. Yes, this should be talked about more. Especially when some people say vegans don't care about people as much. Plant Based News also has a video on people suffering from being forced to live near animal farms and them spraying poop. It's being forced to live near a open sewer. Poop was found on the neighbors' houses. Not everyone can just move away or have to. Why is it more ok to make complaints on disruptive neighbors than animal farms or even other businesses? Working in or living near slaughterhouses is also being forced to smell all that nauseating blood. Or injuries from big blades, hot water, or animals fighting back or the workers.
It all needs to stop fella. People will have to profiteer from something else. I've worked in a slaughterhouse and on a farm and it's not natural. The end product comes from the slaughterhouse and I can tell you it's wrong. Not good.
@@crymeariver5470 Steak is healing miracle. Body is not made to run on carbs as fuel, but ketones, from fat. Your own storage fat or animal fat in your diet. Same animal fat. Fatty beef steak and eggs, water. All you need for rest of your life. No fiber, no carbs, fructose or starch, causing only digestive problems.
I hope to see a vegan world in my lifetime but the fact that we humans can't even muster up the kindness to help our own human young makes me think it is very unlikely. But every animal saved from victimization, brutality, and murder is an important moral achievement and individual lives very much matter.
Yes, it's frightening how even some vegans take a hypocritical view on abortion. They will support the killing of innocent human life and pretend they care about other animals. You can't care about other animals and not care about the most innocent among us.
I dont, a vegan world doesnt make any sense, eggs doesnt hurt any animal whatsoever and same goes for milk production (not the mass production ones, the ones from small farms, same goes for egg production). I get it, vegans get an incredibly moral superiority complex, thats why they have to tell everyone they are vegan even if the conversation has nothing to do with it, its just another trend snowflake people follow to feel special, like how people dont take mental issues seriously anymore, because now its a "fashion" thing to have anxiety or whatever self diagnosed issue. Vegetarianism on the other side its much more balanced (more b12 from eggs and dairy) and has the same benefit to animals and before anyone tells me i dont love animals... i work as a veterinary in a rural area, half of city folks that go vegan wouldnt even know half of the things we have to treat.
It will be tough when we still have idiot trolls around, but like you say we can't even be kind to each other let alone the animals. I'm still hopeful though
I worked as an IT teacher to adults looking for work for a while and while i worked there i met the scariest person iI have ever encountered. He was an ex-slaughter house worker and when I expressed sympathy because I thought it would have negatively affected him, he looked at me and said 'I loved it - best job in the world'. I never allowed myself to be alone in a room with him after that and i've never forgotten the look in his eyes.......
I'm sorry you had to experience that. I believe it's weakness disguised as strength and a whole lot of normalised aggression from a young age but what do I know? Thanks for sharing 💚
@@TheBroLuke honestly, he was terrifying. He reminded me of John Christie in the film 10 Rillington Place. If I had to bet on anyone I've ever met being a serial killer, I would pick him! Thank you so much for your kind words 💚
I understand your fear. When I watched Dominion, I was stunned. I've been so ignorant for the majority of my life. Slaughterhouses look like training grounds for serial killers. I will never stop trying to convert my friends and family to adopt a vegan lifestyle.
Even as a lifelong vegan, I can’t pretend that it’s not hard to watch this stuff and not just go “wow, humans are awful and I hope everything ends.” But, we know it is possible to stop this, and to bring a world where this doesn’t happen, and humans and non-humans alike don’t have to suffer like this. Thank you so much to everyone who worked on this, especially the speakers, I can’t imagine the courage and composition it must take to do something like this. ♥️
Been vegan for around 3 years. I keep thinking that I've heard the worst of it... And then I find out that there are actually even worse aspects to animal agriculture that I hadn't come across yet. Thank you for sharing these stories.
Very important subject to discuss! My ex worked at a slaughterhouse many years ago and, yup, most of those guys _do_ abuse the animals. When the animals want out, the ex and his coworkers would punch it. I should've taken heed of that red flag because, eventually, he started taking out his anger on me.
There was a study of slaughterhouse workers, and it found that while most violent crime rates were not affected, the two that were....domestic violence and sex crimes. I strongly think that the objectification of animals helps them dehumanizing groups they already have biases against, like women.
I've been vegan for over 50 years, and still feel the most intense trauma every time I watch these videos. I've been trying to get used to what we do to animals by watching these videos, but I never do. I think it's impossible.
I'm not even a slaughterhouse worker, but I ate meat for 32 years and I feel horrible for all the things that I have done to animals and the suffering that I caused.
I do too. It makes me feel like crying. I’ve been vegan since 2020. I’m slowly converting my fiancé & my 11 year old daughter. We also have a one year old son. I’m raising him vegan as possible.
@@MoistVeganit was Ed who did it for me, after years of not eating meat and being intolerant to dairy. I finally made the jump to refusing to eat fish after I saw Seaspiracy.
This was truly heartbreaking and painful to watch. I felt nauseous throughout at the descriptions and images of what the poor animals have to go through then and now. The world is slowly changing but certainly not fast or quick enough. Very well done Ed. Thank you for speaking up for those that can’t ❤
I don't think these people are any more guilty than the millions of people who go through their lives demanding that jobs like this exist to feed their appetites
Exactly. If anything, it's important to remember that a huge amount of people working these jobs are immigrants and/or impoverished people who don't want to be there but need to earn money to sustain themselves and their families. It's people who have the means to go vegan but just don't who create the demand for these jobs. It's people who can but won't go vegan who put vulnerable people in hellish working environments.
@@monemori A lot of the time, this is what asylum seekers are forced to do. They come to this country trying to escape bloody violence and death (usually caused by our soldiers) only to be forced into this industry for cheap labour. Disgusting.
Exact point. Not only are carnists putting animals that are conscious and sentient through torture and pain, they’re also creating jobs like these. Jobs that literally consist of making and handling the dead, which can be so traumatic.
@@Funkynature Yep! I always make a point to talk about the experiences and abuse slaughterhouse workers, because even if someone was completely numb to animal abuse, veganism should still be a priority for the sake of not supporting exploitation of humans alone!
I went vegan about 4 years ago and videos like these always hit me very emotionally. Now, since I became a father (my daugher is now 2 years old) the level of despair and sadness I feel when watching this is so much bigger. Somehow when I see these animals I feel reminded of my daughter. We owe them sympathy, not this kind of cruelties. I am literally crying right now. Thanks to everyone being vegan and standing up for it!
Yep, so far only vegan food. She's free to make her own decisions once she's old enough, although I can already tell she loves eating plant based and has a great empathy for animals. Raising her vegan causes some discussions with other people, but I'm completely convinced she'll appreciate when she's older.
@@DocG1337 you are abusing your kid you are stunting brain development at least go vegetarian with the girl before she can choose if you cant bring yourself to let her try meat as well look it up there are studies that say vegan diets in kids can stunt brain development even if there are other studies saying the opposite do you really want to risk it?
It’s perhaps more impactful any gut-wrenching to hear the former slaughterhouse workers say this since they’re primary sources. I applaud the work you do, Ed. You played a large role in turning me into a vegan activist.
As a Kiwi, hearing Carl talk about his experience brings me to tears. I know people who have worked in meatworks and slaughterhouses and it never leaves the worker unscarred, not to mention the horror the animals face. Thank you all for sharing these stories and shedding light on something so unspeakably awful. Proud to be vegan for 5 years, no way I'd ever go back 🌱💚
Well done Ed. This is absolutely brilliant but very very sad and horrifying for both the animals and the workers. Please keep making these, this is absolutely incredible and powerful!!
Genuinely shed tears at this. I think these individuals are incredibly strong for overcoming and also publicly speaking about these expereinces. So important to acknowledge how animal agriculture harms US ALL. Happy World Vegan Day 🌱💚
Three years vegan today and my deepest regret in life is not doing it sooner. If you are on the fence, try it out. It is so much easier than I ever thought it would be. I don't miss animal products. I do miss my ignorance, but I am proud of myself for waking up and doing the right thing.
you know how many ex vegans who felt great the first few years said that it eventually caught up to them, the protein in vegan food requires bigger portions cause it either doesn't have enough in it and/or is not as efficiently digested as animal products with protein which is usually not sustainable for 10 years plus which is why many eventually go back to animal products and often immediately start to see positive effects and feel better than they have in years, that could be you too eventually.
Close to 4 years of being vegan. Thank you Ed for sharing the truth and for teaching people to have more compassion with all beings. It’s so sad to hear the cruelty that has happened and is still happening today.
Thank you, thank you so much for bringing attention to this issue. My heart goes out to all the people who ever had to find themselves working in slaughterhouses to sustain themselves or their families. The animal agriculture industry has its hands full of blood, human and non-human alike. Even if someone didn't care about animals at all, they should still be vegan, if only to stop an industry that harms humans as well, so much, and just for a sandwich...
Amazing documentary. I can't imagine all the suffering innocent animals had and are having right now. But not only animals are victims, we humans are also victims of carnism. We are not the opressed, but we still pay the cost in other ways. I think this was a very interesting perspective, and It helps to see the problem with another glasses. Thanks for bringing this up, Ed 💚
Kate Middleton, vegan, cancer, Jenny Apple, vegan, cancer, dead, Steve Jobs, vegan, cancer, dead... Time to wake up. Long time malnutrition is a bit**.
Thank you so much for sharing your experiences. I was only a student of animal agriculture, and ended up there the same way as Doug. I chose a major that said “animal science” because I love animals and thought that I would be something enjoyable. I’ve held onto so much guilt and I try to share what I’ve seen to tell others just how abused they are. One part I never witnessed was the slaughter. Hearing your stories affirms that from life to death these animals are treated as commodities in the most violent and disgusting ways. We are in this together. We can be a voice for those who suffered, we only need people to open their hearts and listen.
I believe you already know this, but I want to say it anyway. This information is priceless. You are single-handedly moving the needle Ed. And with all of us working together, I can’t want to see what we can change and accomplish. Well done, we’ll done indeed. 🙏🙏🙏
Thank you Ed for sharing this video and thank you to the ex slaughterhouse workers for sharing their stories and doing what they can now for the animals and humanity. My heart breaks for you all for what you went through and have to live with. Sending you all so much love. Your story and words will make a positive impact towards a Vegan World 🌎 🌱💚
Let this World Vegan Day inspire us all to do more for the animals who are subjected to this violence. Thank you so much for this documentary, Ed and team!
This Video made me turn vegan. I feel so sorry for those three. And I admire that they turned those horrible experiences into something that will reduce suffering. If I think too long about what the animals might feel like, it almost tears me apart. I'm only 4 weeks into my vegan journey and I know that statistically it is more likely than not that I'm not going to be vegan in a year. But I will go back to this video and watch it since it really shakes me to the core. And I feel an incredible relief ever since cutting out animal products. Until now, I never fully understood that I always, even as a child, felt guilty eating them.
Phenomenal. I'm going to ask my family to watch this as my Christmas present this year, as stupid, dystopian, and meager that sounds. I want them to receive this idea, this knowledge about how animals are treated in this world. Maybe then they'll start thinking about change
So powerful. Thank you to these three brave people for sharing their stories so openly. When we talk about our reasons for being vegan, usually we focus on animal rights, the environment, and health, but we must also remember the human suffering that comes as a direct result of animal "agriculture".
5 year vegan here, once worked in a pork butchering factory here in Australia. Never had to kill the pigs myself, just cut up their body parts and packaged them. For me one of the most disturbing things I saw was actually just the ethnicity of all the workers. There were hundreds of people on the work floor, maybe even one thousand, and apart from an old racist 50 year old bogan further up the production line, I was THE ONLY WHITE PERSON that was labouring on the ground floor, in a majority white country. Sure, there were plenty of white people in higher up positions, but everyone else there who was actually doing the hard work were either Pacific Islanders or exchange students from China or Taiwan on visas. It just goes to show that the vast majority of white Australians who enjoy the animal products these factories produce, can’t stomach the realities of working there and have to take advantage of ethnic workers from other countries in less fortunate life circumstances than themselves to even get these products on supermarket shelves, all while people that look like me turn a blind eye to the less than glamorous reality behind the scenes and then have the absolute audacity to claim veganism is for privileged white people, while being privileged white people.
@@jasonh.8754 Culture is nothing when it comes to respecting other beings. There are cultures where people not only eat animals but rape them, you have a very limited perspective of the world, that happens when you talk in a position of privilege. I know a lot of racist, sexist and classist people that don't consider themselves evil either lmfao
@@Afeone I've worked in meat processing, I've seen in a chicken meat processor, and I've worked in various chicken farms. Some of it is not very nice at all. If you don't want to eat meat, by all means avoid it. Again, would you regard a traditional hunter as evil? I know a few people who hunt animals for meat.
I think interviews like this are so helpful for people who aren't ready to watch Earthlings or one of the more graphic documentaries. Natural empathy for another human in the animal is a great stepping stone for empathy for the animals.
Thankyou Doug, Susane and Carl for being so open and sharing your stories. You are all an inspiration. 💚We all have thing’s in our past that we wish we could change but what’s important is the present and the future. X💚X
Thank you so much for posting this. I can't imagine what it would do to me if I felt I had to work there. An acquaintance of mine did study to be a vet and a requirement of that is a practical term in the slaughterhouse and she said it was just awful. Great that you show the untold other victims of the meat industry.
I can totally see that. US Army for only a few years myself and I can confidently say that, in the general military ranks, there's not really a whole lot of daily torture and murder going on from 9-5.
I'm vegan, but I actually can't watch this, as I think I would feel traumatised just by the stories told. Thank you, Ed. Thank you to everyone doing outreach, and thank you to all the other vegans in the world who have woken up to the horrors of animal agriculture and are making an ethical stand. 😢😢
I had a really hard time watching as well. Especially as I have seen them cut up a mother cow who was pregnant right on transfer truck at vigil. I have only been back once or twice since seeing it .
Just after WW2, my dad, age 17, had to work in a slaughter house, due to all destruction. The slaughter house was first to be rebuild. He never got over that too.
@@Kinship1interesting point. I tend to be easier on the older generations. They tend to be more “brainwashed” by “got milk” type campaigns and experience more “FOMO” on nutrition. I have a bigger problem with younger people who should know better.
Thank you for this video Ed. Incredibly powerful and devastating. I currently have tears streaming down my face, turning vegan was the best thing I ever did back in 2016. The death and pain us humans cause to other sentient beings is just beyond comprehension. What happened to love, empathy and compassion for eachother and for these animals. I feel such sadness that these workers had to endure the trauma of working in that industry, its great to see them speaking out for what is right, I hope it brings them all peace
It takes a lot of courage to talk about flaws and your own mistakes - Thank you for that and I hope your stories can open the eyes of people! I also hope you can find peace
Having survived serious childhood abuse and neglect, I've dealt with complex ptsd. These people all describe features of the illness. Numbing out to the suffering, dissociation from one's actions, nightmares, addiction, aggression...it's all there. Industrial meat isn't just cruel to the animals. Everyone is tormented. We shouldn't ask this duty of anyone just so we can tidy the horror out of our sight and pick up a clean, wrapped, innocuous looking piece of "food" that conceals the vicious nature of what these people had to do to put it on your table.
Animals are NOT "its" and with ALL the trauma these ex-workers had they are STILL alive. The animals come first and foremost since THEIR lives were stolen from them. Even with consumer demand for animal flesh, secretions, periods, vomit and other body parts NO ONE is EVER forced to work at these places of hell slaughterhouses would shut down if they didn't have workers.
Powerful powerful video. Being the sensitive and soft-natured person that I am, I wouldn't have the strength, courage, and grit to even survive in such a stressful and traumatic environment. Kudos to these workers for coming clean with their stories and opening up about their darkest chapters in their lives. I've been living a vegan lifestyle for over three years now and I don't think I'm gonna be stopping anytime soon. Animals' lives matter the most and I'll always eat plant-based even if some of the options are limited and sometimes priced exorbitantly compared to its meat and dairy counterparts.
My father was an immigrant from Portugal working in slaughter houses in the UK and Republic of Ireland, did it for 10 years. Most of the work was during winter on turkey slaughterhouses, he also worked in pig slaughterhouses. The amount of cruelty involved to give the final blow to each animal was too much and he was never considered a "good" worker. Ended up working with the trolleys stacking things in the warehouse. Even today my father remembers this and regrets what he did, but he is not a bad person he did it to pay the bills since we were coming out of the 2007 crisis and he could not get any job in Portugal. Slaughterhouses exploits both human and non-human animals and are simply not a good place. If God created an Hell on Earth for (human and non-human) animals then that Hell must take the form of a Slaughterhouse.
@@Fartboy226 nope. Was "vegan" at 18 ... then went back to dairy, & occasional fish. So I was a failed newbie vegan , turned psuedo lacto ovo vegetarian. I ate occasional fish up until 20 yrs ago. 🤢🤮🤮 Seafood & meat has parasites galore. So yeah, I actually stopped meat cold turkey at 18. Never touched another carcass again. So there you go. I was oblivious to the horrors of the dairy industry where cows are treated like rubbish. I guess I jumped into the vegan "diet" , before awakening to the vegan "lifestyle". I hope that makes sense. I was initially more self-centered, until I became centered in self. It's all about respecting our animal friends. 🙏🏻😘 #govegan🌱
Wow, powerful short film. I'm glad that they have shared these experiences and that 2 of them now campaign for animals. Ed, thanks. You and your material really helped me become vegan.
There is a huge Slaughterhouse a mile from my house. Last year when our Washer broke I took my clothes to the laundromat, as I sat there a guy came in to do his washing, he was covered in dry blood and smelled terrible, he had the Plants name on his Hoodie. He spoke very little English and was not sure how to operate the laundromat machines. My first thought was to tell him to figure it out, but he looked so tired and beaten down I couldn't see him struggling, so I helped him out and we had a bit of a chat, he was here on a work permit and worked 6 days a week, 12 hour shifts. He said he hated his job. Although I'm 6 years vegan, to my eternal shame I've hauled meat out of that plant all over the USA. It's not just the animals that are the victims.
I live in Oamaru NZ and see the trucks heading to Pukeuri freezing works and feel traumatised seeing their faces poking their heads out and crammed in. I've been vegan 5 months and will never touch flesh's again. Thanks for sharing your feelings with us and that you've all been suffering for so long
thank you Doug, Susana, and Carl for having the courage to share your experience and bring awareness. Over recent years there is also more widespread exposure about the mental burden that these workers endure and how they must adapt. As one of you said, we are told (from a young age) that this is all a necessary evil, it's instilled in us. from childhood we see the graphics of a laughing cow on a milk carton or a turkey dressed up like a pilgrim to promote some type of sentiment that all is well. we buy our children toys with farm animal sounds and yet there is that total disconnect always there: go pet the cow at the petting farm then go home to eat a steak or drink milk. I think it's also that there was some ridiculous assumption that they willingly go, as one of three said in the interview, and of course they do not. I think that younger generations today are able to voice these matters much more effectively, across the internet especially, which allows people everywhere to learn more about going plant based, also feeling less alone if surrounded by family/friends that just won't let go of the mentality regarding animal "products". All the content out there by so many different (and healthy) vegans is doing a world of good toward change.
What's depressing about this is none of these people are more culpable than us for what they did. In fact they are less culpable for the work aspect of their life than we as a society are for eating meat, since they arguably had to do so to survive. But they are the ones who have to sit with the immense guilt and imagery.
They didnt have to work the job… i agree im vegan, they cud have exposed the industry at the time they worked there as well. Just relax not everyone or everything is that sentimental or if it is u may not even know exactly why.
I'm truly moved by this insightful video featuring ex-slaughterhouse workers embracing a vegan lifestyle. Their stories shed light on the transformative power of compassion and awareness. It's inspiring to witness individuals choosing a path of kindness and making a positive impact on the world. Kudos to everyone involved in sharing these powerful narratives! 🌱 #CompassionPrevails #VeganJourney #veganforever
It’s heartbreaking but true, as William Tuttle writes, that in order to justify the consumption of animals, we must first desensitize ourselves to their suffering. This is especially evident in the case of slaughterhouse workers, who are tasked with the brutal job of taking the lives of defenseless creatures. The constant exposure to violence creates frustration, which can lead to depression, self-medication through alcohol, and even domestic violence as a way to cope with the trauma. I can personally relate to this cycle of suffering. My father, who dreamed of working with animals since he was a child, ended up working as a butcher-not in a large slaughterhouse, but the effects were still devastating. He struggled with depression for years, and when I was just 7 years old, he took his own life with a bolt gun. I don’t remember much from my childhood, but the day I found him in a sea of blood is something that’s burnt into my memory forever. That experience shaped me, and I am grateful to have been vegan for more than 4 years now. It allows me to live in harmony with my values and ensures that I am not contributing to the cycle of suffering that claimed my father’s life. We cannot sow violence and expect to reap love and compassion in our society. The trauma inflicted on animals creates a ripple effect, damaging not only them but also the people involved and the world around us. Thank you Ed for all you do to raise awareness to this issue! You are a hero to me!
Great documentary, I met Doug at the Animal Rights March in London in 2022. He’s a lovely guy, and I also think Susana and Carl are good people, they can’t change the past but deserve inner peace.
I’m not surprised I cried so much over these stories and testimonies 😭 I wish for the people out there who picture killing animals as “quick and painless” would just have this little glimpse into the reality. Those false perceptions are really holding us back from change, so many thanks to these three for speaking on the truth of the matter. Shut down all slaughterhouses!
Thank you so much for this video. It is a shame this doesn’t get shown widely on TV across the world. We need to hear and listen to these stories. It is crucial for everyone to know the truth and know the pain and suffering animals endure. I really hope one day everyone can stop saying veganism is bad! It is not, vegans have made a conscious decision to not eat meat or hurt animals. They do no deserve to be killed for food. God has provided an abundance of food for us humans to sustain their needs and to be healthy. I’ve been vegan my whole life! (40 years) and been bought up in a vegetarian household and never in our family (far back as I can go) have we eaten meat. We need to educate ourselves more and stop animal cruelty! It just isn’t right. X

Respect them for having courage to come forward, share their stories, and speak their truth. Wish more would do the same. I hope it inspires people to never get into that evil industry. It's exactly how it sounds, very dangerous environment. U.S averages 2 amputations per week. Not only that but exploitive, cruel, and psychologically damaging for the animals, and the employees that work there. May they find themselves on the path of healing.🙏
These are the stories that society doesn’t want to talk about and the jobs that we don’t want to acknowledge. Thank you to Doug, Susana and Carl for shining a light on an industry that operates in the shadows.

As a vegan I find it hard to empathize with slaughterhouse workers. But we must acknowledge that there are non-vegans who do not care about animals and the only way of possibly getting through to them is through their compassion for their fellow humans. Hopefully this will touch an otherwise untouchable human. 🤍

Any relation to the Vance Refridgeration empire?
Thats so sad.
His story needs to be turned into a film

Not good.

Amazing work Ed

Animals are NOT "its" and with ALL the trauma these ex-workers had they are STILL alive. The animals come first and foremost since THEIR lives were stolen from them.
Almost 4 years vegan for my husband and I... Thanks to you and Joey C! Love you Ed!😊🙏✌️♥️♥️♥️
Almost 10 yrs vegan, & decades & decades vegetarian. Wish i was born vegan!
Same ! :)

U wish u were born vegan but u took forever to become fully vegan, interesting.

Wow, powerful short film. I'm glad that they have shared these experiences and that 2 of them now campaign for animals.
Ed, thanks. You and your material really helped me become vegan.
This breaks my heart, thank you for spreading the word.
Thank you Ed and team for another video that is so helpful to raise awareness, you all are a gift to this world. I'm very glad to be vegan.
Unbearable. Thank you so much for your work I hope it will touch many people
What's depressing about this is none of these people are more culpable than us for what they did.
🌱 #CompassionPrevails #VeganJourney

This should be on tv just like slaughter footage.
Thats a bad idea, id starve just looking at all that delicacy
@@Helperbot-2000lol, we aren’t starving but hope you find yourself in a better place. You seem depressed, hoping for someone to respond so you can let out your anger or cry out for attention. Get well soon. ✌️

thanks for actually talking to the people involved that tell a more complete story
I have so much compassion and love for Doug, Susana and Carl. This was hard to hear but worth it. Can we follow them somewhere?
Powerful
Thank you
Respect them for having courage to come forward, share their stories, and speak their truth.
