    I was an LS, guys it's not all easy peazy. I was on the Reagan (CVN-76) Yes we ran the shops and passed the repair parts throughout the other departments. But my department (S8) dealt with the arrival of office supplies, bathroom cleaners/paper, copy paper (TONS of it), When those supplies arrived from replenishment, ALL those boxes needed to come down to the storerooms. That required large working parties to take them down, sometimes 5 - 9 decks down from the hangar bay. LS is actually a lot of manual labor too.

      Jeremy Laramore well the last 2 cycles it's been 100% to E-4, and this last cycle it was 33% to E-5, it's not a rate where you'll be deadlocked at a certain rank for years like others, but since we're a small rate competition is high

  • @paleamigo8575
    @paleamigo8575 3 года назад +2

    Very cool video and good info for non-vets. RP sounds like the best of the 5 because you don't have to deal with body fluids, you can get your "Gung Ho" on if you like, and it's laid back enough not to burn you out physically.
    Anything in admin is good because you have access to info that others don't, the downside is the potential boredom.

Definitely can confirm that we take up bluejacketeer and advancement often in the hospital cause of the amount of downtime we have. But then again some people reuse that downtime to get through college at the same time.

    the RP rating helped as I went into Catholic Seminary ...just left the Franciscans (was a Friar/Monk) needed a break ...but will go back in a few years....will see.....all ratings in the Navy are mission orientated ....all are needed for total and complete success in the Navy's Mission. Spirituality /Religion is a huge need for some...not all, life is more than just the physical...we are spiritual creatures too and that needs HUGE tending too, unfortunately it is not given good tending too....

    I've been an avid follower of your vids since enlisting, but I gotta say, you missed probably the easiest one of all: MU - Musician. It's harder to get this job as you tend to need a degree or two or three in order to even get a contract as an MU, but you are guaranteed LRP (student loan repayment of $65000), you're never deployed, A-school is short, E-4 is 100% advancement, the list goes on.

    Advancement rate should be your first clue. If it’s hard to advance it’s because people in your rate aren’t leaving the Navy. If they’re not leaving it’s because they got a gravy ass job. So actually corpsman boy had it about as easy as it gets in the Navy. He said he was “green side” but then said he was attached to a squadron. In other words, when he did his schooling for being out in the field he had a few tough days and then spent the rest of his time handing out rubbers to air crew going out on liberty.

    I got out as a PS1 after 11 years in 2011.
    Granted, you're not gonna have sore muscles after a day in the life; but there's a lot of case management where you're constantly tracking multiple cases that can last weeks or months at at time.
    One cool part about being a BM or CS is that you can completely forget about everything you did yesterday, because everyday is a brand new day.
    Oh, and then you have Chiefs in your division who want to FIND ways to make your job "hard" in order to "prove" shit others in the Mess.
    Combine all this with the fact that, in the Navy, people feel they can be condescending towards those in rates that they perceive as "easier" than their own - so we had to deal with that.
    Honestly, if I could do it all over again, I'd be an SH and I'd want to work in laundry.
    Sure, I'd have to handy shit-stained skivvies... but all I'd be doing is loading clothes into a machine and pushing a button. And I'd be in the laundry space, where no one could fuck with me.

    • @JustaGamerT2

      Currently a PS3, been in now 6 years and getting out next year. You are completely right and I hate being stressed out all the time. Getting ask to remember pay issues from months ago or dealing with TOPS and PSD bullshit gives everyone anxiety. Chief has no idea what we do. Nobody can get access. And like you said, people think we don’t do shit.

    Ok, I started fwd deployed ship as an LS. 17 storerooms, Parts everywhere, and the store rooms are not all in one place, they are scattered. Bails of Rags or Boxes of Paper for the entire ship(big deck) at least 50-80, and you have 4 guys to move all of it. This is just one division. Hazmat division, is the most dirtiest, dangerous, most likely to go to mast job for an LS. Now, I went to a squadron and did a short TAD to a Shore LS supply and yeah, they are lazy as hell. Big deck LSs though, especially LHA/LHDs, those LSs are carrying shit all day all over the ship, plus all the other ship stuff. Maintenance, DCPO maintenance(Hazmat Div "GOD HELP YOU"), Damage Control, Security Sentry, Deck Watches, Low Vis(usually at midnight, after you worked a full day). In port, stores every 2 days and no matter how much you get, it all has to be counted, checked and put away before you are done. Parts still coming in at 1600 while the flight deck crew left at 1400? Too bad, we stay and continue orginazing parts, hazmat, etc..LS on my ship in port stood for Life Sucks. Sqdrn LS-Easy, Shore LS-stupid Easy, Big Deck(except Stock ctrl)-Lots of carrying, lots of work, lots of extra jobs, we even go cranking too.

    For LS you guys got it kind of wrong. LSs not only just order parts (All of the "easy paper work is done by NCO and COs such as ordering and buying or disposal orders) the "peons" work their ass off. Not only you have to get up early to start working on those parts, you have to 1) Inspect them for damages (PMCS) 2) Pack in specific way, file and fix the paperwork that NCOs and COs don't have to do (they don't fix shit, they only send or receive orders), 3) run the budget for said parts 4) Transport said parts 5) clean up after said parts 6) Dispose correctly said parts and God forbidif you forget to put any of this on the paperwork. So yeah, LSs work their asses. Not to mention they seem to be the first on the pick for shitty details like Mess Cranking.

    Kudos to you Donny, the Cormans on my ship had it made. Even though on my ship the USS Frank Cable AS 40 had 1500 people on bored, not too many of them were in sickbay.

    Not gonna lie, I wanted to be a pilot my entire youth growing up in Pensacola and Jacksonville but I was screwed with bad vision so they said no way in hell you will fly after college so you would be stuck on the ship instead. I would however be interested in the harder Nuke job like my HS friend did as I knew that would be a BANK job after I left the Navy. Last I knew he was an E8 and that was a few years ago!

    Do a video on Fire rescue rates! Like DC!

      @jacobdelaune7074 7 лет назад +1

      Patriotic Badger I'm looking to get that rate when I enlist this fall. I know a good bit.
      Very sea intensive rate. First sea duty lasts about 36 months and then the last year you'll probably get shore duty. But sense your main job is keeping a boat afloat it makes sense.
      Its not just fire emergency, it's anything that's involved with keeping the boat together and in one piece. I still want to know what the advancement percentage is but I'll figure it out.
      I want to be a fireman after so I thought this rate would be a perfect fit.

    • @jacobdelaune7074
      @jacobdelaune7074 7 лет назад +1

      Patriotic Badger Yeah I had to dig deep to find people that were DC's and new the daily grind. They say when you're not fixing things or puting our fires, you're teaching or studying. It's a hard rate, very work oriented. I don't plan on making a career but who knows.
      I'm pretty sure it's not hard to get, the asvab score for it is pretty low. If I'm not mistaken. But yeah, I still gotta do some digging myself, but for now I'm sticking with it. Its the closest thing to what I want to do.

    HAHA I totally agree with number 2 as a former RP. I took the test advanced by putting my name on the test. But when I was in field med we had had to do everything the corpsmen did. Then when I got with first Marine division I was stationed with 1st Recon Battalion and yes 95% of the job was skate I did not do much of anything spent alot of time in the gym pool or going to the range I would see my chaplian like maybe 2 hours out of the day then I would go see what the marines were doing and chill with them doing whatever crazy crap they were getting into but that was me. I seen other RPs just chill in the office and not know the marines at all so yea I know what your saying

      Blue side is a Navy command, Green side is a Marine Corps command.
      Jordan Petroski, when were you with 1st Recon Bn? We didn't have a chaplain when I was with them, except in time of war. We got one for the 1st Gulf War, but after that, he was gone.....

    I was a PS when they were called PN's. PN underway was the straight skate. When I mess cranked I was the mess deck yeoman and didn't do shit. The worst part was the rate stayed locked up so you didn't advance. Also, when there were PN's we also had DK's that dealt with pay.

I need to ask, Is all recruiters this mean when i can’t join as soon as I originally thought? I thought I was joining the Navy, not the Marines
