JTsuits I got 4 questions for you. How many years did you serve in the NAVY? What was your job that you chose? Are you stuck with that job until your done with your service and did you love that job?
Well JT, I just decided to go forward with the enlistment process. I go to MEPS sometime next week, your vids have helped me a lot in making my decision so thanks fam 👍
Not only did I learn to slide down the ladder rails, but on some of the spaces, one could snag a chill pipe in the overhead and use it to change direction then drop down on the next ladder and continue the decent . My personal best is three decks without my feet touching the deck.
I got busted on sliding down the ladder. yea dwelling is hard to deal with. yep I went a couple turns right into my div officer, he was having bad day too. Cleaning stations was so boring. yea and don't eat cheese burgers every single meal, I blew up to 300 pounds. I would like to add when on a smaller ship and you go thru rough seas, don't time leaping up the ladder wells that bump on the head will hurt for a month.
I can add something to the list: 'don't bang the first cute girl you run into'. No explanation needed I think. And btw, running into an OF6 (Commodore) isn't that bad, they're often nicer than lower ranks who still feel like they have to prove something. Btw, would love to work on a carrier. We don't have them in my country, and it seems awesome to be part of such an impressive platform
Very good info for future sailors, especially the parts about hygiene! Sliding down ladder wells is very unsafe but we did it all the time. You have to learn how to stop mid-way down the ladder.😁 As far as "skating" goes, do everything that is expected of you and then skate if you like. But first, learn when to check-in and who to check in with, and only after completing whatever you were told to do, you only need one of the two things to occur to be good to go all the time, but two is best. 1) be in the right place at the right time or 2) with the right person at the right time and you'll be good all the time. Waiting in line for grub was a 2-hour wait for each meal (except mid-rats). Our workday consisted of ~6 hours of work and ~6 hours of waiting in lines (on an aircraft carrier).👍 Underway the drinking water had a very consistent dose of JP-5 (nowadays I think its JP-6) so we usually survived on beverages from the mess decks. Thanks for the video!
We still use JP-5, on the 18s at least, I dont know about other aircraft though but I would assume they all use JP-5, but ya gotta love a little dose of it in your water, adds a little spice😂
A few things not to do on a Navy ship:1. Leave anything unsecured.2. Have poor hygiene.3. Have a poor situational awareness.4. Have a low to no supply of essential items.5. Send a guy to do the laundry who doesn't know how to wash or dry clothes properly.

Hell I dipped so I had to put my fingers in my mouth and luckily I never got sick like some people did. 8. Make friends, be kind to everyone. You never know what someone can hook you up with when you need it. Enjoy your time because it may seem shitty sometimes but you will always remember the amazing times and the amazing people that you truly call your ship mates.
I've been in 8 years and I'm finally going to my first ship next year (before jumping to conclusions I'm a MA so it's kind of common lol). This video and your channel are really full of helpful info! :-)
Love the vids mate, definitely given me an insight into what goes on! I’ve put my application into the Australian Navy 3 fridays ago and looking forward to going ahead with the application process! As I’ve said i love the vids keep em coming 🇦🇺🇦🇺
Do not become a rack sloth......get a routine down, and workout. You can do calisthenics someplace if you're on a smaller ship. JT was correct about "extra" stuff. Don't have the bare minimum of uniforms, you'll regret it.
They sell uniform items on ships, but usually not very much. How much they sell (variety/quantity) is dependent on the size of the ship. Having a uniform for everyday of the week is impractical. Just make sure that you aren't always completely dependent on having to do laundry for having a presentable uniform should the need arise. If you are supposed to have 3, I would have 5. Extra underwear, t-shirts, and socks will make life easier. When I was a Corpsman with the Marines we had to have 3 or 4 sets of camouflage utilities if I remember correctly. I had 6 or 7. There is nothing worse than having to do laundry because you don't have any clean/serviceable uniforms for the next day and finding out that a washer/dryer is broken or there is a long line. It's nice to know that you have a couple of extra uniforms. However.....in the barracks with the Marines I had a LOT more room to store things. A wall locker, a sea-bag under my bed or on top of my locker etc.....I could also put things in my vehicle.
Hey JT, You have really inspired for me to join the Navy more and more. Like I really do before I noticed your vids. But now you make me want to Enlist more and freakin more. I hop to stay in about 12 years to make Chief. just like my dad. he was in the Navy(Hooyah) on the USS Nimitz, AZC and retired a Chief. I hope I can either be MA, a Yellow jersey and or RDC. so thanks again
Thanks for the advices JT. I'm joining the Royal Canadian Navy. I begin my Basic Military Qualification in August at the Canadian Forces Leadership and Recruit School. I applied for one trade in each branch last summer and they gave me the one in the Navy.
lol at small boys you can do laundry whenever. 3 washers and 4 dryers for 250 people on a cruiser and maybe 2 of those washers and 2 of those dryers work.
You can buy a new set of sheets and a blanket pack it in you're sea bag and than you have more room for souvenirs and shi and at the end of deployment just throw that stuff away
Lysol, for sure!!!! I keep the same rack on every cruise, but the boat chucks use our berthing when the CAG is gone. I come back, and some melted ass jolly ranchers are stuck on the inside of my rack near the hinge. I tried getting it off, but jolly ranchers are like cement. It's not coming off. I literally need to get into a hazmat suit to clean my rack and locker before I unpack. There's life growing in those crevices 🤢🤢🤢🤢
I’m just got my first job with MSC as a wiper in the Engine room. We call skating off knocking off. Also thank you for your wisdom I will tattoo it in my brain haha
Make sure you lock your stuff up! I mean almost everything, because every ship has a thief there and If you want to keep it don't leave gear adrift. Even your dirty and soiled laundry is not safe around anyone. So if your single and has to live aboard ship (ughh) don't bring or buy too much stuff.
Wait, did this change on the newer ships? We had ladderwells in pairs and really it was more about the flow of traffic. Look before you fall/slide and be sure you are on the right side, because the other side is where you go up. Of course wipe down your shit. When the hell did you find time for reading and watching movies?! Most I could manage was 3 hours of sleep per day (not all at once, often in 15 min or less increments). More sleep than that would require skipping out on meals and showers. The worst was when I went 3 days working, no sleep at all, and started hallucinating an old wooden ship, sails unfurled, sailing across the fleck-painted head floor. Also the ship P-ways being shown look ultra-gucci, like maybe that's a Merchant Marine ship or something. No rust walls and floor tiles for you, hmm? (I may be jealous) And green water? Time to put the chlorine back in the water supply. We never seemed to have green water problems on the USS Cimarron. (Yes, I know it's been decommissioned for a long time, I was there for that.)
What up JT.. I discovered your videos just the last couple weeks. its very interesting and helping. im currently in the Philippines but from San Diego and had plans to finally do what I should have done when I first took the asvab 10years ago.I will be 33 in December but regardless what people say I will pursue the Navy now. What is your opinion, I hope I get a feedback and possibly even shake your hand one time when I'm back in SD. Your vids are helpful and hope for more interesting videos to come. Godbless

Cheers bro goodluck !!
Wait so there's no gym? 😱
Also can you eat well on a Navy ship or is it impossible to follow a healthy diet?
Do not flush too much toilet paper down the head in one go. It will get blocked. 2 pieces is okay, 3 is risky, 4 is no.
We have missiles that can hit an ant from 300 meters but you can’t even shit on a ship
I thought I knew what not to do, but I needed this video. Thank you.
You should make a video of how to deal with basic with anxiety . Because I have bad anxiety and I'll constantly 2nd guess myself
Both of my parents and step parents are all E-7 and I’m glad I can understand some of this stuff before actually joining myself
Your doggy is so cute.
Sir!MetalLee! Rock lee is the sexy lee
I love how he says you can't take showers for a couple days try a month iraq 04-05 army!!!
Thanks for the advices JT.
I'm joining the Royal Canadian Navy. I begin my Basic Military Qualification in August at the Canadian Forces Leadership and Recruit School. I applied for one trade in each branch last summer and they gave me the one in the Navy.
Going into a submarine around December-January, but still cool to know
Hey JT u should do a video on navy uniforms and what there for
Sliding down those stairs...if the rails are wet...you'll go 0-100 mph real quick lol
"Eight things NOT to do on your first Navy ship."
1. Sink it. :)
lol at small boys you can do laundry whenever. 3 washers and 4 dryers for 250 people on a cruiser and maybe 2 of those washers and 2 of those dryers work.
hey JT man thanks for your videos they're very helpful since i'm leaving and going to Bootcamp IN August.
5:33 imaginary bronze you're brassing? WTF............
that's never dulling the bright work or never dulling brass.
I love the smell of it
I'm an old salt, of Deck Div.
BM for life. OOH RAH
Keep it up!
Do not go bare feet when you are going to take a shower....... for the love of god...
You can buy a new set of sheets and a blanket pack it in you're sea bag and than you have more room for souvenirs and shi and at the end of deployment just throw that stuff away
All I heard was the first 4 notes of SOAD and instantly liked the video!

Update? What rating did you get?
Lysol, for sure!!!! I keep the same rack on every cruise, but the boat chucks use our berthing when the CAG is gone. I come back, and some melted ass jolly ranchers are stuck on the inside of my rack near the hinge. I tried getting it off, but jolly ranchers are like cement. It's not coming off. I literally need to get into a hazmat suit to clean my rack and locker before I unpack. There's life growing in those crevices 🤢🤢🤢🤢
Funny - memories wow the stair slide love it! Tin Can days out of Norfolk
That’s one of the things I regret in life is not joining the military when I could of but especially the navy
Oh dude I like the system of a down intro
Excellent video
I’m just got my first job with MSC as a wiper in the Engine room. We call skating off knocking off. Also thank you for your wisdom I will tattoo it in my brain haha
I see you crossed the equator, outstanding fellow shellback
Make sure you lock your stuff up! I mean almost everything, because every ship has a thief there and If you want to keep it don't leave gear adrift. Even your dirty and soiled laundry is not safe around anyone. So if your single and has to live aboard ship (ughh) don't bring or buy too much stuff.
That opening bass is NUT....
Heard "O-6"
Me: "Oh shit. That captain's gonna fuck up his day"
Wait, did this change on the newer ships?
(I may be jealous)
And green water? Time to put the chlorine back in the water supply. We never seemed to have green water problems on the USS Cimarron. (Yes, I know it's been decommissioned for a long time, I was there for that.)
Good points raised jt. But dont forget about respecting your oppos and pos. As tey are your mentors. And watch your back. If you ars in shit.
The ship I was on i solved the problem of people sliding down the ladders by putting non-skid on the railings.
Good to know for when I get there,Thanks bro. Hugs to Papa! #Legend
Godbless
I've been watching your videos for awhile man, you've helped me out alot ...I'm going in for aefc nov 14

Appreciate the video I should be hopefully be leaving for my first command in October.
You inspire me man... You really do. I'm gonna go get a haircut tomorrow... :,)
4:23 why are the gally ways so small it's not a submarine
When my Dad served, they didn’t have Lysol or any other kind of wipes. Racks weren’t “wipe-able.” Sliding wasn’t possible, either, unless you wanted to try it on chains?
Lmao "well hello captain!" 😂
Frikin love that song at the beginning
my recruiter picks me up tomorrow to go to meps. by the next video you post I should be sworn in!
