I want to see one of these with sinks in place not spray just pouring. Your channel is the best out here.
Knowing when to stop, I was thinking it looked like a big mess. But wow! Came out great!!
StoneCoatCountertops I wish I could do this I bought a trailer it needs a lot of work.
Thanks for this! I have an old teacher-style metal desk with an awful woodgrain laminate top and this is one way I'm thinking about refurbishing it!
This is great help. I will soon be doing my formica tops. Always awesome tutorials!
I love the coloring of this sample.
Glad this video popped up on my feed. This is the exact counter profile I have. Definitely want to do this now. Would make a definite wow factor.
Thanks for watching Chris! Let us know if you need help getting started! -Nathan
Thanks for the video, very comprehensive stuff!
I'm thinking I might have a go at this here in Scotland, I'd have to source the all materials.
Cool...that’s the way my countertop is. This is so helpful.😎
This is awesome stuff we have nothing like this in New Zealand the wife and I are probably going to buy your bench top kit and give it a Crack will keep you posted on how it turns out, your videos are are well done and very informative keep it up
I have to say though because of what you came up with I'm doing it to all of my countertops. Hope I'm able to cause I'm in a wheelchair but still going to tackle this cause WOW what a great product. Want to do light grey with white misting then put white pearl in the epoxy and mist with silver in the alcohol and very little color mostly white and white pearl on the tops for the cabinets are charcoal in color.
I would love to see the results of your counter tops 😍 love the colors you mentioned
Great project Mike! Thanks !
Great video, you made it look so easy.
Great instructional video...30 minutes is a little long so I had to fast forward...maybe you could on some of the parts that are no-brainers...but I LOVED IT!!! AWESOME!!!!
I have been watching your videos, they're awesome!
I was waiting for some white streaks. Love the blue you did also! ❤️👍
Rebecca ART. AKA ClayFeathers I was waiting for the white streaks as well
WOW, Awesome job guys!!! Thank you so much for your bringing this type of education to all who are interested. Definitely woth a sub!!! Again, THANK YOU SO MUCH!
Hi David thank you for your subscription! We are glad to have earned it, please call or write us anytime with questions, we are here to help! 541-450-1976 or stonecoatcountertops@gmail.com
Ya’ll are my new religion! You’re changing the world! How about an updated version of this technique on an already installed old countertop. I’ve been struggling on what to do to make it right. Also have that old metal edging around the countertop from the 50s and I’m afraid to rip it off. I would really love an updated version.
Watched many of your videos, AWESOME! A question - Can I change the edge of existing laminate to bull nose with a router, then use your process?
Beautiful!
Excellent job!!
You do amazing work and explain things very well with excellent detail. I was wondering if you've manufactured an outdoor countertop for a BBQ grill/outdoor kitchen?. I'm wondering if the surface would hold up exposed to the elements. Heat/Sun particularly? Tnx
Really amazing loved it.
I love this process, and love that the design would be a one of a kind, made by me. I'm wondering an approximate cost for exactly what you've done if I were to do it on a 6ft by 1.5 ft surface.
You make excellent videos. Very informative, and your manner is very personable! I was looking at your site and could not find links to SDS (MSDS) information. My first reason for looking was to learn what base the products are in order to facilitate cleanup. I'd hate to purchase quality tools (brushes, etc), just to have them ruined by the project.
love your work .
Love all your videos
All of your videos are very informative and useful. The finished product looks great. Two questions: 1) Is the final finish glossy or matte? 2) what is the drying time before the surface can be used?
Hi, love the video! Could you tell me why you mix the metallic gold with rubbing alcohol please? Thank you 😊
Me watching this I could really be able to do it 😭😭😭 great video looked amazing I have beautiful home with ugly counter tops I wish it could be this easy.
Can I use any type of spray paint or does it have to be glossy spray? What about Rust-oleum metallic paint n primer in one gloss? Can I use textured metallic or hammered spray paint? I need to know before I go out & buy paint. Thank you & have a very Merry Christmas! Awsome videos!!
Do I put on my 2 and 1 paint and primer or am I putting on 2 coats of my bonding primer I didn’t hear Mike comment on the process for putting on the bonding primer. Am I putting on 1 coat of bonding primer and then putting on 2 coats of paint and primer, what is the process?
Mike, thank you for sharing this video. Question: there were multiple applications of the "metallics" from the spray bottles. At 15:18 you say "I'm going to take some of our gold metallic and mix some". Later, at 16:58, you use gold metallic mixed with alcohol to "fracture" the surface (which does not occur in the first spraying (at 15:18). What was the gold metallic mixed with in the first application which did not fracture the surface? Is it the same mixture with just a different application technique, or is it a different mixture? Thank you!
Mike I have bought the peel bond primer and also have the concrete bonding adhesive that you recommend in one of your other videos. I will be applying bondo to create the live edge look. Counters are Formica so I think you suggest to use the concrete bonding adhesive first then apply the bondo. Should I then use the peel bond or do base color of Behr paint and primer in one then a coat of peel bond primer before epoxy process. Please advise. Your videos are great and very helpful. Just want to make sure I get the steps correct for best adhesion.
what did you dilute the metallic with in the spray bottle?
Will this work if pieces of the laminate is missing but the particle board is still good?
FREAKIN AWESOME!!!!!!! Any chance you can come over and do this to my butcher block laminate counters????? I can't get over how this looks like a hunk of marble!!!! WELL DONE!
Great video!! How do you clean your trowel and paint brush after using the epoxy? Also, does the epoxy pool more at the base of the backsplash and countertop? Thank you!
My countertop looks exactly like this (minus the raised edge on the front)... but I want to cut off the backsplash on mine and then install a tile backsplash. How would you go about cutting that backsplash off while keeping it all a nice flat surface?
What kind of paint are you using in the spray bottle with the alcohol?
Great looks. So, you're saying this can be used in a commercial kitchen. 1) In your research, what kind of temps can it handle for a hot pan or plate or if a table top fryer were put on top, without burning or bubbling? 2) How does it handle a chefs knife ? Does it cut or chip or crack if somethings dropped on it. Thanks guys
Wondering how you could do this over the sheet laminate.
I feel like I'm asking questions in all your videos but I want to make sure I do it right, but for laminated counters is there other primers that can be used instead of the bonding one you used? Thanks in advanced :)
I love your work so much thank you for sharing I was wondering can I use this in my world of art as another medium as I work with metals, glass etc?
I can't wait I am now really really excited thank you your amazing
Hi Mike. Thx for a very interesting video. I know this video is old but I'm still gonna take a chance and ask you. I'm trying to make a weatherproof folding table for my patio which will hang on the wall like a painting, and fold down when needed. I wanted to use a kitchen worktop, paint it like a painting, then resin the whole thing so its durable and can take somewhat hot dishes when it doubles up as a table. I'll be keeping the table covered with a plastic sheet when its not in use, so I'm hoping the resin wont yellow any time soon. What I wanted to ask was, what kind of resin would you recommend? And would you suggest I use a laminate worktop or is it better to go with a wooden one? Please advise as I'm very confused and this isnt a cheap project. Thanks much.
Can I cut off the backsplash and epoxy over the cut edge for a flat countertop
Is the binding primer grey or do we tint it with the base color? I want white marble like counter tops but wondering if the base color would cover the grey primer underneath
I have a dining room table. Top is in good shape. Can I use this over the table top? Thank you
Hey, is the bonding primer needed for a wood surface? or you can do without it?
I love your creativity, but am very concerned for your health since you don't use a respirator for protection from those harmful vapors.
Hi Diane Marinari, our epoxy is a Zero VOC product so there are no harmful smells and you can use this product indoors!
You do want to wear a mask anytime you are sanding or spray painting.
I will be doing my crappy formica laminate tops in the near future. They have the no drip edge and I hate it. What would you recommend to sand down the edge? Also will I need to use bondo to seal it up and sand it? What saw would you use ro cut off the backsplash?
What formica?! I don't see anything like formica here! Looking great as usual! Technical question, does the epoxy "dry"? I thought that part A &B forms & bonds together and it cures... If it does dry, is there any VOC or strong smell?
This looks like great stuff both for countertops and tables but for art projects too. I'm an artist and upcycle furniture too. My ideas for this are endless. One question, at about 17:45 you add a copper color. what type of paint is this and did you add anything to it such as a pouring medium?
How long does it take the epoxy to completely dry before you can use it as you would your normally use your countertop?
Could this process be used on a counter for an outdoor kitchen? Concerned about UV impact over time, hail resistance, as well as temperature expansion contraction, etc. Thanks. Intrigued by your product.
Should I use this bonding prime on my concrete before applying the seal coat?
Could you have added a bit more color to the backsplash with the colored epoxy if you waited a little bit longer to let it set in the bucket before applying it or would it still have seeped down to find level?
In your previous video making the counter tops, you used spray paint on a paint stick, and used 7 different colors, that included metallic blue. Which is exactly what I want. How would I achieve the same look with my laminate with black splash using the technique to demonstrated in this video? Would you also recommend putting on 2 clear coats?
And for those with kids who aren't aware Trisodium Phosphate is in your favorite Cheerios brand of cereal and others. This just shows what this chemical is really for...construction! Great vids btw!
Is there a difference between using the spray paint and the the tint in the spray bottle? You use rust oleum spray paint, any specific kind? You can use the mettalic spray paint and your mixed tint in spray bottle...why is it you cant spray the backsplash with the alcohol, like the counter top? And I'm with you..."When to actually stop adding and playing with the pattern and colors!!" Actually, when you torch it, you can still manupilate it around a bit after...and when and at what point, must you top messing around with it?
I really like your videos so much!!! You do it in a way that they are all a bit different and very unique!! I love how thorough you are and creative to all tastes!! I think I have watched every single one of your videos...Im just now getting ready to conquer this task...AND CANNOT WAIT!!!
What about laminate counter tops with wood trim edging? Is it possible to keep the wood edging in tact?
does it have to be Formica? we have 4x4 tiles for our counters. Thank You
Is the bonding primer oil or water-based, Does it matter?
I am wondering if I forgot to sand the bathroom vanity before applying the bond, if I can move forward with spray paint and epoxy? Or should I sand off the bond and basically start over?
Hi very nice video. Do you find all the products you use on the home depot
I ordered a buttercream base. Is that the same as the bonding primer you demonstrated in this video?
hi, my old kitchen countertop is cracked,, do i need some filler to fill up before i put base color?
Love it, wish I could get it in the UK.
StoneCoatCountertops hi I maybe interested, need more information
Pretty cool but the one thing I was looking forward to was revealing the old counter top corner and the contrast it would have.
watch the very beginning of the video. it shows the final product--with the old counter top exposed.
I actually would like to cut the backsplash off my formica countertops without necessarily replacing it, just having the countertop come straight out of the wall. Do you have a video or tutorial on how to do that?
Hi Mike. Working the laminate counter. After applying a bonding primer, the pain & primer in one (BEHR) white color should be satin, matte or oil?
How usable are the countertops?
for example, bread dough, cookie dough?
flour and rolling pins?
So do you have to remove your whole countertop? Or you leave it in place and still do the project with the backsplash?
nice nice nice...the tech is almost same with any smooth surface..sand to make lil rough ..to give paint some to stick too.common practice in painting or staining.i think the tow important things is chop with brush and torch it thats all to it. anybody can do it.
My counter tops are identical to this. I'm really disappointed how the backsplash and front edge turned out compared to the flat surface. 😢 I'm aware of the problem with gravity, but is there anything I can do differently to make it all blend better? TIA! P.S. I LOVE YOUR CHANNEL!❤❤
Do you have any more recent videos keeping the backsplash on when doing laminate countertops. I haven’t found a recent video. I emailed your company my dilemma and was given a very informative response but they did not address keeping backsplash On just taking it off which is not an option I want to do. Can you still keep backsplash on and use this technique?
Can I cover polyurethane with epoxy? Tried cleaning countertops that have polyurethane and it takes shine off
If i don't want to torch it, can i use a nlow dryer on high?
Love your final products.. Need advise please, I have new Formica counter tops in my kitchen but it is matt, how can I apply epoxy or a high gloss count without having to put on a primer..
StoneCoatCountertops thanks so much
Do you guys supply to south africa. I yes i need to cover 4 meter counter with the clear primer and epoxy. What will total cost be with shipping and how do i order. Thx guys
Just when I think you have it, sometimes you go to far ?
Wow amazing only 1 short year ago!!
Will this product work with laminate countertop that has been painted with rustoleum countertop paint ?
awesome project... WHERE DID YOU GET THE PAINTERS TAPE AND PAPER GADGET???
Can u use a roller instead of the troul on the bigger projects??
If I wanted to do this on a VERY low budget, could I spray paint the counters, add speckled flakes (like black spray paint with gold specs) and add the top clear epoxy over it?
They did one over fabric. So I think you would be able too.
What all materials can this be applied to...
Do you guys have a list for reference
Can i add acrylic color to the epoxy ? Can i use it for wall art?
Would using the faux concrete technique on this help the backsplash look more standardized when compared to the flat surfaces due the the nature of how you create the concrete look with spray paints rather than tinting the epoxy? I'm planning to use the concrete effect in my kitchen and desperately want to avoid removing the backsplash as I do not feel comfortable with deconstruction of that magnitude.
What brand of epoxy did u use
Can you use this product if you have tile as your counter?
Great tutorials! Really debating doing this for my laminate kitchen counters. I have a lot of countertop real-estate, and putting in actual black quartz would cost several thousand $$.
Practice an keep an see how they hold up. U could save alot an your costumers alot. Which will.draw u alot more clients..I personally love honesty.
I have had black carpet and currently have black granite. Very hard to live with. I would never recommend it.
I'm not sure how often you respond to these but I am actually right in the middle of doing an epoxy countertop pour I have formica countertops with imperfections some of it delaminated so I cut out the delamination and filled it with some Bondo sanded it down and put two coats of primer on it two coats of primer over all countertops. I'm planning on just going with the basic White epoxy with some black gray little bit of copper accent. My question is do I paint my countertops over my primer before I pour the epoxy or can I just pour over the primer
Do I have to use a torch ? Also can I use a sealer, and what kind of sealer?
Can I do a dirty pour on the lip on the back/backsplash piece?
2 questions if you don't mind.
1.) can you use this as flooring? is it durable enough to use as a floor?
2.) can you use this to make a custom shower stall? will it work and not leak?
Hum it would be cool to try a old bathtub.😁
What should I do if My existing formica has a "bubble" in it ? I sat a hot pan on it years ago and its bubbled up pretty bad? Should I cut it out and fill it with something?
Curious.....you have an epoxy for working on shower walls right?
Could you use it on this type of counter with a backsplach so it would stay better and have a slower drip down factor off the backsplash?
Did you mix the gold metallic with alcohol?
My laminate countertops have separate pieces that were used as the back splash. Is it better to remove everything and then reapply in place?
Sand my surface area , roll my bonder ( primer), let it dry... apply my epoxy undercoat paint ( let it dry)... Add my colors (let it dry) sand of excess) .... apply my clear coat.... Are those steps correct? I have everything thing to start, going to get my torch now.... Thanks... My wife saying my projects are building up and I need to get started lol
