I haven't even been on one, but I don't like all inclusive hotels, unethical tourism or very curated tourist areas. Cruises are all three on hard mode....
This is my chance to shoutout Virgin Voyages, one of my favorite vacations I've gone on in recent memory. Their food is outlandishly good and they treat the crew with genuine respect which is awesome
I was just on a cruise and met a gentleman who “worked from home” and only spent 30 days of a year off the ship! Booked back to back to back cruises by winning them through the casino. I cannot imagine. I will say he did not get the same room every cruise, and would have to get on and off the ship each time.
That was my first thought. You’d have to switch rooms like every week or two, take all your things on and off the ship to re-check in, have all your documents (passport etc) re-verified, possibly even quarantine… what a pain.
@@DKF_oliyou actually don’t if you book in advance. If you book the exact same cruise and go back to back you can keep your same room too and not have to pack all your luggage. My mom actually has been looking into doing this for quite some time and knows some friends who have lol, she already takes like 2 cruises a year.
My older sister’s friend who worked in a cruise ship said that it’s actually fairly common for people to do these and she said that if you die on a ship (even if you’re old) they say that the fam gets insurance for it so there are instances where family purposely put their family members to go on cruise ships because of that.

The worst part about this is how terrible it is for the planet. Cruise ships make the most greenhouse gases per passenger out of any mode of transportation, and they’re completely unnecessary. People don’t even go on cruises for the sole purpose of boats; transportation. You can go to a waterpark on land, a casino on land, concerts on land, and restaurants on land. Doing them on a boat is pointless.
Ship* And maybe, just maybe, people enjoy being out on the water. Sure, you can do those things in landlocked places, but you don't get the gorgeous view of the ocean or the chance of waking up in a different place every day. Don't get me wrong, I hate how bad "cruises" (let's be honest, it's humans that are bad for the environment, as they created all of that) are, but it's a dream of mine to go on one. I'd prefer to go on an ocean liner, but those aren't exactly a thing anymore.
@@englishatheart Welp, the gorgeous ocean views probably won't be there all too long for future generations to come if we proceed like this (alongside polluting our oceans every chance we get), but hey, what is the planet's wellbeing compared to your ocean liner dreams, huh?
About mailing things: you can often get things sent to where you will be when it arrives. You can just have it be a pick up order from one of Amazon’s pick up locations or more UPS and FedEx locations at the port you’re at. You can also do this while you’re traveling in general
As someone who just went on a cruise, nothing extra is free. Food is barely free, and you have the same food options for the entire week. in my hometown we get a lot of cruise ships in the summer, to the point there are 5 times as many cruise tourists as the population. they also have elvis performances until late at night and you can hear it from literally anywhere as it’s a small town surrounded by mountains that echo the sound
I’ve heard that it’s decently popular for senior citizens to live the rest of their lives on cruise ships instead of a group home type situation. Where a lot of homes can be very negligent and families often drop off their relative and forget all about them, leaving it all up to staff and other residents to be their closest thing to family.

8:11 well cruises have shows, pools, activities, and meals that are probably better than retirement homes. You also meet new people too, plus the rocking of the boat can be pretty relaxing for sleep. You get nice views too
Cruises also have loyalty benefits meaning the more you cruise on a specific line, the higher level member you are and the more benefits you'll get. I've only been on one cruise so I don't know what the possible benefits are but most of the old people on there have to be diamond level or something and maybe it's a price decrease.🤷♀️

Ok, so.. I go on a lot of cruises, it’s impossible.
3:30 The other reason they’re so cheap is because these ships are registered in poorer countries, often ones in Central America. These countries have lower minimum wages and far more relaxed labor practices and regulations.
As someone who lives in a port where cruise ships come and occasionally abandon their staff (You quit? You stay here. No, we won't take you home.), can confirm.
They also make a lot of their money from gambling and similar on board luxuries
Yea I remember when I took my first cruise and went to an Asian style restaurant on it and the person made the food directly in front of you. He used the oil to make a smiley face then used his spatula to drag out to the eyes to then say “oooh! Asian eyes!!” While all the other (white) people around me laughed. I kinda sat there uncomfortably thinking to myself about how often I saw the workers basically degrade themselves because they desperately wanted your tip n such. for some time now, older people have been staying on cruise ships because they are cheaper than nursing homes. cruise ships are one of the most stressful places to be a doctor, because of how many chronic issues the passengers have, how many things can go wrong, and how few resources they have. fun fact: large cruise ships also have a morgue :D
This is why I didn't see her calling employees "the help" as anything sinister. I was like "yeah, she's probably happy to stay close to help"
I commented the same thing before seeing yours.
It definitely poses additional issues for the staff. Also, many contagious diseases sweep through cruise ships and old folks are more vulnerable than the general public.
@rmb6037 her calling employees "the help" is 100% malicious
@@rmb6037 i think she could have used a better word, but also she's probably one of those old people who refuse to acknowledge that language has changed and that's not an okay thing to call people anymore. hopefully she's not that way in other regards but also i don't know her so i'm not gonna say anything else abt it lol. she's definitely got some opinions.
yeah, i honestly would like to retire on a cruise ship when i'm older, i've heard Not Great things about nursing homes so i feel like a cruise would just be better. i wish more people would talk about the actual environmental impacts of cruise ships instead of just being like "cruises are stupid, people who like cruises are stupid"

this sounds like my nightmare, small claustrophobic in the middle of the ocean for days... not to mention crime is insane on cruise ships
I'm guessing the crimes are mostly just theft
My great aunt did this for almost 5 years back around 2000. Even though she owned several houses and thousands of acres in Canada, she preferred to live on a cruise ship. Before she decided to go non-stop, she had a camper trailer and would stay there until the next cruise came in. She was a retired chemical engineer and had worked hard all her life. She was my inspiration to be more than a mom and wife that most of my peers in my tiny town became. I miss her dearly. I am a polymath with 4 degrees... I wish she could see me now 💐

my parents actually wanted to do this but they were only gonna use it as a camper thing for road trips
better solely because the cruise ships have a lot of stuff to offer other than just accomodation
Hmm that's hard.. u get free food but you have to listen to tropical beach music in the background everywhere you go 24/7
If you live in a converted school bus your parents teach you the earth is flat and Zack and Cody showed me that if you live on a cruise ship you go to Yale so the bus sounds worse.
As a nurse I KNOW at least some of those old ppl have medications so like how do they get their meds
delivery people swim furiously
The ships dock lol these folks have their meds sent to the next port that they'll arrive to
@@shannonceleste5557 you have to see your doctor every 6 months to a year to get them filled sometimes sooner depending on the medicine but maybe the ship has a doctor ?
@@shannonceleste5557 that's the not fun explanation
That’s what I was thinking! And like even if they get them when they dock, what happens if there is supply shortages of a certain medication when they dock and they have to leave before they can get their meds? That 88 year old is going to die and expect the “help” to deal with it!
The "problem" with it being comparitively cheap is that it's difficult to work. So it's only really feasible if you can make all your money online and that job (whatever it is) allows you to not have your own permanent space.
It will be interesting to see if more digital entrepreneurs do this and if that then drives the price up.

You just get off and get back on (but you get to get back on far earlier than everyone else!) They already come to clean your room daily so it’s not like anything changes. My mom actually has been looking into doing this for quite some time and knows some friends who have lol, she already takes like 2 cruises a year.
Bro I just sat down to eat and refreshed my feed. Perfect timing
My older sister’s friend who worked in a cruise ship said that it’s actually fairly common for people to do these and she said that if you die on a ship (even if you’re old) they say that the fam gets insurance for it so there are instances where family purposely put their family members to go on cruise ships because of that.
Wow, that is wild!
dude i have to start fully paying attention bc i looked away for a second and suddenly danny was in a suit (i thought it was real for a sec, it was fairly well edited for some reason)
These boomers don't care about the environment. They'll be dead by the time it affects their area of the world.
Especially if they don't even leave the ship 😭
People who do those things on a boat are often enthusiastic about being on a boat, believe it or not.

Drinks cost like $15 a drink or a $300 "unlimited drink" package. Half the restaurants cost extra, the shows cost extra, theyre so overcrowded and living in a BOX. It doesnt sound good AT ALL

in my hometown we get a lot of cruise ships in the summer, to the point there are 5 times as many cruise tourists as the population. they also have elvis performances until late at night and you can hear it from literally anywhere as it’s a small town surrounded by mountains that echo the sound
