No and the can did not say to put anything but the paint, this is made for refrigerators, you sand and paint and it becomes a shiny shell like a fridge
Great Job with showing each of the different applications then confirming that the Appliance Epoxy was best in everyday use. Rust-oleum should send a commission of thanks for great reporting of results that stand the test. Wonderful, and thank you. :)
I used Rust-Oleum countertop paint almost 4 years ago and it still looks great. I did top with 3 coats of polyurethane to keep water and stains away. No regrets here for about $30.00 I gave my counters a new look.
I inherited an old white metal table that was my grandmother’s. It was probably from at least the 40s if not older. My dad had used it in the garage to mount a saw on. I bondo’d the holes and painted it with the appliance paint. It came out great. It’s been three years and it’s holding up awesomely, though it’s not subject to as much wear and tear as a countertop , but no sign of peeling or anything. Since it came out so great I used it on a couple of other things, including an old dingy mailbox. I used black and it’s been three years and it’s exposed t the elements, including the hot desert sun and it looks as good as new. It was only supposed to be temporary while I looked for something else, but I probably won’t bother now.
The new pour on epoxy countertops, that you can do yourself, is absolutely amazing! You can make them look like chiseled rock, granite, marble with any color combination you can conceive of! Gorgeous!
Be EXTREMELY careful when using anything with epoxy! Make sure to have a respirator mask and double up the rubber gloves. There's massive numbers of people who end up getting very sick and having major health problems from using epoxy.
I purchased pine boards from home depot, belt sanded everything straight and put the new cabinets in and countertops on, primed everything then sanded again. I used three rustoleum paints to create a stone coat look then sanded again. I then put on the two part epoxy and wet sanded. lastly applied a clear coat for uv protection, wet sanded and buffed it to a mirror finish. I’ve been pretty happy with the outcome of my countertops, had a few nicks here and there but that’s to be expected I guess.
I used the appliance paint on my bathtubs and it worked great. That was 3 years ago. Only issue I had, was my husband would always leave a bar of soap on the same spot in the tub and it actually took the paint off one day when I was cleaning the tub. And if you buy their small touch up paint it was not the same color of white. The paint irself though looka great and I plan on doing another tub.
I used topside on an old table and it came out awesome. Also looks like a new top. Drys like a rock. Been two years and have not had any peeling at all. I painted kitchen cabinets also and came out very smooth. Talked to a rep first and asked if it was ok to use on wood. He said it also it resistant to cracking. I’ll def be trying the appliance paint in the future.
I used appliance paint on my countertops and I absolutely love them!! We get chips here and there but I just touch them up with left over paint and they're good as new I'm so glad I did it
@Donna-vh5ym like a normal laminate countertop and when I get a little stain I pour a little bit of bleach on the area let it sit for a bit and it comes out
My daughters 1st home was a fixer. She hated the pea green tile in 1 bath and a bright blue in another bath. The tile looked rather new and the house had many other issues that were more of a priority. I told her paint them white. Within a short time she used the spray appliance paint and is so happy that it looks clean. In fact 3 years later, the rest of the bathroom has been remodeled but not the tile around the tub area as there are still other areas of higher priority. I doubt they will get to the tile surround of the tub for many years.
I used appliance paint in my shower and love how it turned out. I plan to do the rest of the bathroom countertops in that as well. Biggest issue was how long it smelled, but so easy to apply. I wish they had more colors - not sure I want to do white in my kitchen.
This is the best video I have seen so far! I have been looking to paint our kitchen counters for ages now, you have given three examples to use, what you did to prep, how long to wait, and how it turned out! Now I feel better about my decision to paint our countertops. Thank you so much for the amazing advice and video! ❤
Awww you're very welcome! I made the video because I wish there was a video like this when I was thinking about painting my counters! It helps me too because I can look back in case I forget my own tips... LOL Have a great day.
I like a good diy. Thanks. (If you do this again, take a look at how you are rolling the paint on in short random directions and placing the can down on the surface. It all adds up to a less ideal finish.)
I'm sorry you went through all of that, but thank you for saving me money. I found your video because I am re-repainting my counter because I just don't like the color on mine. I thought I could go cheaper than the Giani paint. 3 years ago I bought the Giani Countertop paint bombay black and it worked super well, it has held up very nice and I scrub my counters. I just don't like the dark black in my kitchen and I guess I will have to spend the additional price to buy the Giani cause it works.
Awesome! I’ve always wanted to try that but the expense didn’t make sense since it would be a temporary fix for that house until I saved for the quartz we wanted. Glad to hear your experience with Giani! Thanks for watching! ❤️
You can if you want but ask Home Depot or Lowes if that's ok being that its an epoxy paint. You must choose the correct topcoat that will stick to epoxy paint and thick enough to embed the glitter...you don't want a bumpy surface. Hope that helps!
I just used the white knight laminate paint and it’s chipping and peeling in some spots so now I want to re do it. I’m gonna try your method with the BIN and the Rustoleum
Thank you for this video this has helped me alot ..few years back i used the couter top paint and used epoxy over it and it sucked it still peeled and stated mold around sink so i strpped it all off OMG that was a 2 month job sttipping that paint off because i have so much counter top and and island ive been confused with what to you this helped so much as well as the comments of others trying this 😊
Thank you so much for this because we have a couple of counter that we might think about replacing so this is worth a try. Epoxy is strong because I use it to fix my jet ski.
I did use that counter top paint and the same thing happened to me…chip and discoloration..need to re paint…thanks for the information will give it a try…
I was always told that you had to paint over the zinser shellac within a day because it cures hard and then there is poor adhesion to it as the primer would repel it
You should do stone coat epoxy, I did it in my kitchen and it been about a year and a half and still looks great. Also with the epoxy you can make it look like real stone.
Thanks for this excellent video. I'll use the Rust-Oleum epoxy paint first then cover it with liquid epoxy on top. That's how convert cheap lanolium to a Granite or quarts looking countertop.
If you’ll be using liquid epoxy over the whole thing then you can just use any paint underneath. The clear liquid epoxy is a very hard shell and will protect any paint at all. I just never used it because I’m terrified of the drips and the whole mixing of the 2 parts thing. Haha. Anyway thanks for watching! 😊
Be careful using epoxy. I used it on a countertop and it not only scratched, it yellows really bad over time. Try Polyaspartic. I've read it's alot harder, as you can use it on floors and it's uv stable so it won't yellow over time. I haven't used it yet but I'm definitely going to try it.
topside boat paint works well for areas where it won't come in contact with heat. It was great it my bathtub until I filled it with scalding hot water.
The boat paint works great on old cast iron sinks. I have painted two cast iron sinks and haven't had issues. I can see why it wouldn't adhere to lamenent countertops.
I am planning to use Topside Marine paint on my cast iron kitchen sink. Did you use a primer? If so, which primer did you use? How long did this paint last? Thank you in advance.
I'm wondering if you could put Polyaspartic as a topcoat with a little pearl luster. I bought an expensive piece of quartz for my powder room and hate it because it throws gray tones instead of white.
People continue to insist in the comments that you need a primer. The only primer you need is a good sanding and go on with your appliance paint!! I have painted countertops too, that came with my house, it's an old 1960's oil based so I don't know what it is, but it's very heavy duty, and very 1960's yellow! Maybe someday I will fix it :)
Thank you, very informative. I too used the boat paint as advised by a friend on my camper and it too peeled off yet only on the top, sides are fine. I'm thinking the heat of the sun had something to do with it. Which is the next project this coming summer, repainting the top. I'll take your advice.
Thanks for this video update. I am getting ready to paint my white kitchen counter tile and needed to know what would work best. Epoxy Appliance Paint it is!
Rust-Oleum came out with a new countertop coating kit called Rustoleum HOME Countertop Coating kits. Try using that for the next countertop paint project! It's suppose to work a lot better!
Ok thanks. I see it’s more $$ than the can that’s why I used the can. Most of these kits are just supplies you can gather from store. I’m Thinking of giving my counters a second coat and maybe some design to it.
I'm about to do a small 2x4 faux marble counter in my bathroom. After many peoples reviews of using the appliance epoxy I'm going with that. Wasn't aware there was going to be a smell. There is a vent but now window. Then marble effect and for a topcoat deciding between a two part epoxy or Minwax Polycrylic. Why have you never used a seal coat of any kind?
Interesting thanks! I have used Behr hi gloss enamel white and then put a couple coats of polycrylic for about 6 years ! I clean it with a bleach based counter spray and even cleanser for a tough stain! If it gets worn out due to the polycrylic I just Re paint and Re coat! I may try the appliance paint though !!! Cool.
That’s my next project. I’ll do a paint effect on the counters with simple acrylics then seal with the poly acrylic times like you said. I’ll just touch up as needed.
Thanks for the video. I'm getting ready to order paint for my kitchen counters and cabinets (appliance), bathroom shower and tub surround (marine), and mud room floor (floor ???). There is a specific paint for floors but, I'm going over linoleum not ceramic tile. I would like your opinion on which paint would be most durable for the mud room floor. I've seen they now have a farm and implement paint as well. I'm sure it would hold up on the metal faucet assembly but not sure about covering vinyl ???
When it’s cured it’s a hard shell. But food safe as in cutting on the countertop? I wouldn’t do that no matter what countertop i have. It’s made for appliances so think refrigerator, stove, etc all belong in the kitchen. Thanks for watching!
That sounds like a good base since it hardens as a shell. I’ve never used stone effects but I recently saw a lady paint her countertops with acrylics and then put the poly like you said as a sealant. It looked soooo good!!! That’s actually my next video!!
@@1cleosmom I ended up using a product called "Beyond Paint" as my base coat. I then applied several coats of Rustoleum "stone effects", added "veining" & sealed it with poly. Looks amazing! It has held up through Thanksgiving & Christmas with a house full of family & friends. Hope this helps.
BIN is a great product but not suitable for anywhere that might have water. Shellac does not like water. A bonding primer would be much more appropriate.
i am finally ready to paint my countertop tank you so much before see your video it is a night mare for me beacause to much stuff in home depot and somtime the staff know nothing on this stuff...tank again sorry for my english i am french 🙂
I have used bin on wall and ceilings with great results. Do you think I should use the bin on my formica countertops before I apply the appliance paint?
thank you for this... i have purchased topside paint and wqs told by lowes no primer no sealant necessary but i was logically contemplating appliance paint.... i will now take and swap it out for the appliance paint for sure!! Really good to see long term results because so many videos are beautiful when done but you're kind of thinking "ill call you in 6 months!" and see how its holding up! 😂
I’m currently researching my options here and appliance paint is an interesting choice. I’ll be considering that for sure. Did you apply a clear top coat in any of these? That might address the issues you had around the sink and such. Other videos I’m seeing suggest the following: repair defects, clean, sand, mineral spirits, two coats primer, dry six hours, two coats paint, dry four hours, two coats clear topcoat, cure 24 hours, light use for two weeks before complete cure.
Yes that should work with the other paints but I noticed with the appliance paint those things were not necessary which was true, the appliance paint was the most reliable. Thanks for watching!
Hi! I’ve only used it on countertops so I’m not sure…sorry. I have heard of people using on tile but I’m not sure about walking on it because of the slippery surface.
Thank you for this video! Have you ever tried the countertop paint kits? They're quite expensive, it seems. Wondered if they're worth it. Probably not if the appliance paint you've used works so well, as you've experienced.
Didn’t really want to spend the money since all it is a bunch of paint you can just buy separately and we were going to get the counters switched out soon. But it has been temping! Thanks for watching.
@@notahomemaker4474 no worries 😊 I went against my own advise and used the marine paint and it didn’t work sadly. Should have stuck to my true and true appliance paint.
Just curious why you didn't put a clear top coat over the appliance paint? Lowes has one that goes on thick and is for specific for bars and table tops etc? seems like it would keep it from chipping staining etc?. We will be painting our countertops with the appliance paint soon..Is it tintable?
Theres no need. It is appliance paint and epoxy, feel the surface of your fridge..that's how it comes out, no need for a top coat and it is not suggested on the can. It comes out like a great hard shiny shell. Thanks for watching!
Thank you for your honesty. I’ve painted plenty of floors and Zinsser Cover Stain has never failed me as a primer. It’s oil based and stinky, but sticks to anything! NO SaNding!!! 👏👏👏 I’ll try that and then the appliance paint on our guest vanity.
Of course, this is assuming you want to paint your countertop white. I am trying to paint my WHITE laminate a darker color, so I'm not sure how appliance paint would work for me.
there are other colors like black in a spray paint and there is gray too. You can always get a bit of brown spray paint and mix into the white can of appliance paint to make a beige for example
Not the appliance paint. feel the surface of your fridge..that's how it comes out, no need for a top coat and it is not suggested on the can. It comes out like a great hard shiny shell. Thanks for watching!
I'm surprised you didn't add a coat of polyurethane on top of the paint to seal it. It adds a level of protection to your counter so that cleaning won't ruin your paint job.
Paint peels so easily or gets damaged by using a knife by mistake or some hard object that falls gently. how will this paint countertop last? is it really a decent idea ?
Its appliance paint think of it like cutting on your fridge. Its pretty durable, BUT i would never cut on a countertop no matter what it is, marble, laminate, quartz. Always use a cutting board for cutting and a trivet for hot items. Hope that helps! thanks for watching!
Thanks, it arrived on time, I was searching and deciding which paint, was a better thanks, I will try that one. Did you use any sealing oat or just that paint? Thanks
Good question: I'm sure you can. In that case you can use any paint at all and then use resin on top. But the appliance paint is an epoxy paint that hardens like the surface of your fridge. Its a shiny protective shell no need for anything else on top.
If you're interested in a durable paint on surface for your countertops, try a product called Stone coat countertop. You can find all the information about it on RUclips. I have used it and it is amazing. And Very durable. And it is non toxic and has no horrible fumes.❤
Yes my friend told me about it. I just didn’t want to invest more than $30-50 since I’ll be swapping the counters soon. But I did hear it’s really good. Thanks for watching!!
Hello. I am thinking to use the appliance paint as my base and then use epoxy resin on top for more protection and shine. Also adding some glitters to look like quartz
It was a good 1.5 years and I sold it that way the realtor loved it and asked me how to do it for her moms house and the buyer loved it too. No complains!
Luckily I used appliance paint first, after watching a video from another podcaster. I put 3 coats on, not much prep but light sand, fans going in between and very dry time of year is imp! It has lasted 3 years so far!!! I ended up doing my bathroom tile that was yellow and even a guest bath that had yellow tile. It is great and lasts!!! No and the can did not say to put anything but the paint, this is made for refrigerators, you sand and paint and it becomes a shiny shell like a fridge

I'm thinking the heat of the sun had something to do with it. Which is the next project this coming summer, repainting the top. I'll take your advice.
Glad to help! 😊
Thanks for this video update. I am getting ready to paint my white kitchen counter tile and needed to know what would work best. Epoxy Appliance Paint it is!
Glad to hear I was able to help ya out. I’ve used several times so I know it works. Let me know how it goes.
Did you use it?
Thank you for the information. Much appreciated!
Glad it was helpful!
Thinking of giving my counters a second coat and maybe some design to it.
The paint instructions do not require a topcoat.
What kind of paint are you going to use and will it adhere to what you're putting on there
Extremely useful video, you have saved me a lot of time.
Glad it helped! Thanks for watching!
Appliance paint all the way! I have to redo mine because I didn't do a great job about 4 years ago but it can withstand heat & water.
Yes! Exactly. It’s so durable! Thanks for watching 😊
Will the acrylic work with the paint
How food safe is appliance paint? I would be concerned about laying any food on the counter and eating it.
appliance paint is used for appliances like fridges and stoves etc
Thanks for the video. I'm getting ready to order paint for my kitchen counters and cabinets (appliance), bathroom shower and tub surround (marine), and mud room floor (floor ???). There is a specific paint for floors but, I'm going over linoleum not ceramic tile. I would like your opinion on which paint would be most durable for the mud room floor. I've seen they now have a farm and implement paint as well. I'm sure it would hold up on the metal faucet assembly but not sure about covering vinyl ???
I’ve haven’t done any indoor floors yet, for outdoor and I used patio concrete paint by Valspar and so far so good and it’s been more than a year.
Informative and entertaining video. Cheers from Toronto, Canada!
Glad you enjoyed it!
I would be interested to know if any of those are “food safe”. 🤷🏻♀️
When it’s cured it’s a hard shell. But food safe as in cutting on the countertop? I wouldn’t do that no matter what countertop i have. It’s made for appliances so think refrigerator, stove, etc all belong in the kitchen. Thanks for watching!
I'm considering appliance paint as a base. Then rustoleum stone effects spray paint & polyacrylic as final coat. Thought?
That sounds like a good base since it hardens as a shell. I’ve never used stone effects but I recently saw a lady paint her countertops with acrylics and then put the poly like you said as a sealant. It looked soooo good!!! That’s actually my next video!!
Will the acrylic paint adhere to the Appliance paint I know the Polly goes on top to seal it all I'm contemplating doing that
@@1cleosmom I ended up using a product called "Beyond Paint" as my base coat. I then applied several coats of Rustoleum "stone effects", added "veining" & sealed it with poly. Looks amazing! It has held up through Thanksgiving & Christmas with a house full of family & friends. Hope this helps.
thats awesome!
You can do it!
Thank you for this video. It will help me with my kitchen updates.
You are so welcome!
Thanks for saving me from the wrong choice!!
Any time!
Hurray! I have 2 bathroom counters to go…. Thx
You can do it!
I have used bin on wall and ceilings with great results. Do you think I should use the bin on my formica countertops before I apply the appliance paint?
I didn't have any luck with BIN on my formica counters. Why don't you test it out somewhere you cant really see.
Very helpful. Thank you. I was just getting ready to do my countertops.
Glad it was helpful! ☺️ and thank you so much for watch.
Thank you for this video. I painted mine years ago and poured resin over them. I wonder if I can use this paint over resin???
I’ve never done that before. Maybe try a hidden spot?
What’s wrong with the resin?
Nothing wrong just a lot of work I’m scared of. All the dripping and such. I don’t know enough about it.
thank you for this... i have purchased topside paint and wqs told by lowes no primer no sealant necessary but i was logically contemplating appliance paint.... i will now take and swap it out for the appliance paint for sure!! Really good to see long term results because so many videos are beautiful when done but you're kind of thinking "ill call you in 6 months!" and see how its holding up! 😂
Exactly, I never found any long term videos so I made one! hehe
@@OurClassicHome thank you!
You're very welcome!!
Wish I had seen this before I bought the topside paint for my tub.
Do you suppose I could use the appliance paint in a shower with ceramic tiles or would it be too slippery?
I corrected my comment as I meant to say 'appliance' paint
Awesome let me know how it goes!
Curious how this wind is I’m starting to plan my project
I had great results with the rustoleum counter top paint
So happy to hear that!! Its amazing. Thanks for watching!
Can you have appliance paint tinted to the color you like?
No I tried that. There’s only white in a can and black in a spray.
Rostelum have other colors or just white color???
Your counters look amazing and i want paint mine too they are very old
Thanks
They do have other colors. You can check them out on their website.
@@OurClassicHome
Thanks 😊
Could you clear coat the Appliance paint to make it even more durable?
I guess you could but it’s super shiny and durable. Just look at your fridge it’ll be like that. Hope that helps! Thanks for watching.
What about yellowung over time? Will I need a kind of coating to prevent this?
Luv your outcome
Not the appliance paint. feel the surface of your fridge..that's how it comes out, no need for a top coat and it is not suggested on the can. It comes out like a great hard shiny shell. Thanks for watching!
I'm surprised you didn't add a coat of polyurethane on top of the paint to seal it. It adds a level of protection to your counter so that cleaning won't ruin your paint job.
I would of but the instructions did not suggest a topcoat as it is an all-in-one paint.
@@OurClassicHome no judgment. Just curious.
@@mammaduck3863 absolutely here to help any way I can! 😊
Polyurethane yellowed my countertops. I am about to redo with appliance paint. Thanks for this.
Use poly acrylic
You can have any of those paints tinted at your local paint store if too white for your taste
I heard you couldn’t but if you ask them where the same type of paint is you can mix it with the same type of paint to make your own color.
They tinted mine at home depot. It has a color chart to choose from that is limited to certain colors. It was the countertop paint.
Awesome!
Is this the "gloss white" ?
Yes 👍
Thanks
Just the paint. No need for sealer.
Stonecoat with epoxy? Was that a consideration in this scenario?
I would have but we would have needed about 4 kits. I rather save for the countertops.
Could you paint my kitchen cabinets and counter top please
Ha no way! Lol thanks for watching 😊
Can you put resin on top of the appliance paint?
Good question: I'm sure you can. In that case you can use any paint at all and then use resin on top. But the appliance paint is an epoxy paint that hardens like the surface of your fridge. Its a shiny protective shell no need for anything else on top.
@OurClassicHome thanks 😊
Have you considered doing some of the countertops with ceramic tile - that can be a charming relief from all painted. Thanks for this comparison!
Tile countertops are VERY hard to keep clean, especially if you use white grout as I made the mistake of doing once.
What was the prep for the appliance paint?
The can just said to make sure it’s very clean and I did a light sanding
Because it's an epoxy will it work for a bath tub?
I think so! But I believe they make one specific to tubs.
Hello. I am thinking to use the appliance paint as my base and then use epoxy resin on top for more protection and shine. Also adding some glitters to look like quartz
Good idea! Let me know how it goes. Thanks for watching!
@@OurClassicHome thank you for the video 😊
@@elephantmoney thank you for being here 😊
How did it turn out? I'm considering this as a base. Then rustoleum stone effects spray paint & polyacrylic as final coat. Thought?
Sounds great, I Just did a video on something similar
Isn't the countertop paint tintable, or has to be tinted?
I think it has to be tinted. They have limited colors though.
Thanks!@@OurClassicHome
anytime!
Are your counters laminated, and you were able to pain them with appliance paint and it worked well?
They sure did! Yes 👍
Very very helpful! How long did you use the appliance paint for though? Did you move out right away or were you able to see how long it lasted?
It was a good 1.5 years and I sold it that way the realtor loved it and asked me how to do it for her moms house and the buyer loved it too. No complains!
Does anyone know if the appliance paint can be tinted when purchased?
No they have only specific colors unfortunately. you can see their colors on their site.
Thanks for all your information very helpful
My pleasure! Thanks for watching ❤️
Can you so this on a dining table?
Of course! It’ll be super shiny like a fridge though. But durable for sure.
This was very helpful. Thank you.
Glad it was helpful!
