I love watching the "aha" moment of peoples reaction to this song.
✊🏿
YES! Here for it! Every time. Lol
Sad though when people react to it, but not actually listen. The meaning just goes over their heads.
Yeah, that "oh sh!t" look when the eyebrows go up.
A lot of people assume at the end he's giving the crowd the middle finger salute... I'm still waiting for the "aha" moment when they realize a lot of concert security are off duty police officers and it's THEM he's giving the bird to! 🤣
Welcome to the RATM rabbit hole
Salute!
Green Dreams speaking of which look up Centre of the Storm by Roni Size and Zach! You’ll thank me later!
Like u say IF U DON'T STAND FOR SOMETHING U WILL FALL FOR ANYTHING F.U.TRUMP I WONT DO WHAT YOU TELL ME ur fake
He gets it. I love watching the RATM virgins, absolutely love it. Turned me out exactly the same way.
This guy gets it.
Yep
This song was written in reaction to the Rodney King attack & subsequent acquittal of the police officers involved. It’s themes, though, are sadly still prevalent today. For African Americans specifically, but also the poor & the people who are considered uppity by the establishment. So glad you found them, RATM are some of the best musical protestors in modern times. Green Day & other rock bands would eventually become protestors of war overseas, but Rage has always focused on the wars on our streets.
Thank you for the information.
Well said
I dunno, Sinead O'Connor sacrificed her entire career to out the catholic church for child abuse in the 90's. So there was few. R.A.T.M, 2pac, and Ice cube also
Cranberries took a big risk with Zombie. Most big Irish bands tiptoed around IRA and military occupation in NI. They were very vocal and political. Cranberries opposed military occupation in NI but were just as vocal against terrorism and took the IRA to task too. As someone who is Irish Catholic (NI) and English, they were my heros in my teens.
British politics, it could have hurt their ability to make their next record. But speaking out against the IRA, could have gotten them murdered. Wouldn't have been the first time the IRA killed Irish who spoke out against their tactics.
I was 15 when I went that show. That album changed a lot of my thinking.
Man with gentle nature went from: "My massage therapist said I should react to Rage Against The Machine." to flipping off the camera and proclaiming,
"Fuq you, I won't do what you tell me!" 😂💀😂💀
💯
Justifiable rage !!
🤟😂😂
This was the first reaction to this song that I've seen that actually got what the band was trying to say here.
When music still had something to say.
Yes
Fun fact: they originally wanted the lyrics to be "some of those in office are the same that burn crosses" (I cant remember the exact wording) but their record label wouldnt allow it. They still used those lyrics on some concerts.
I remember listening to this over and over when it first came out almost 30 years ago. Its sad nothing has changed.
On the one hand, it was pretty awesome to be young and angry at the same time this was released. On the other... wtf?! , this song is almost 30 years old and it’s still just as relevant. 😡
I was in my 30's when this came out and my young brother used to trash it and to the 'fuck you I won't do what you tell" at mum. Did not go down well. Meanwhile I still listen to it and it still relevant today.
It was released just after the rodney king beatings . Amazing track.
Lead guitarist Tom Morello's great uncle was the first president of Kenya, Jomo Kenyatta.
you got it... and passed it along... kudos
I love seeing people discover Rage. LOVE IT. So relevant even after 30 years.
Also, that guitarist is Tom Morello. The master of his craft!! He can scratch on that thing like its a turntable.
Just came onto this song 2 days. So excited to discover your timely (for me) reaction. Perfect analysis. So many RUclipsrs struggle to get it for some reason lol.
Appreciate your feedback Jacob.
My favourite Christmas number 1
Hope you guys are all well and good and staying safe. Great video
They are in a class of their own, other bands play music, Rage screams at you to wake the fuck up !!
One year ago this reaction....... just look what’s played out since........ 🤯
When I was a kid I remember watching the national news: this festival, this special performance had registered as a 'small earthquake', because of people jumping at the same time. :-)
Ironically, the audience was probably 99+% white (not saying they are racists, the Netherlands at that time was one of the most progressive, maybe still is), partly teen rebellion, maybe some financial crisis, maybe austerity. And hopefully outrage about what was going on in the US with police killings what this song is about. Whatever it was, they could feel the rage, the rage in the song.
💯
Ha! I was just going to leave this in my comment! You did it perfectly! Thanks, bro! Nice reaction! Great vid!
@@gl2700 no problem, your comment made me watch the reaction again. :-)
What surprised me about his reaction: "always loved RATM",.. "but never heard this track before."
It's disappointing how few people after knowing some songs stop to check any other songs from the same artist.
Insane this song is basically three lines but they say so much.
It’s like the songs by RAM were written for the current times. It’s crazy !!
This is the best RATM reaction that I've seen. You truly fucking get it. All the way.
I am a 62 year old Grandmother of 8 and mad as hell !! My boys are Latino and Black. Those beautiful boys will be seen as animals by “Forces.”
Killing in the Name, the song of 2020.
✊🏿
it's cool how the world has caught up to the band but depressing that so many years later this song is completely relevant.
with immortal technique in the beginning! hell yes!
2 bars in and my guy gets it!!! Love the reaction bro. Respect.
Salute!
I love watching people find RATM... takes me back to being 13 and it grabbing me
.. buying the cd and hiding it... i didn't understand it but knew I needed to be a part of it... and an anarchist was born... watching you makes me feel part of a something bigger
I love it... 😍😍😍😍
Salute!
RATM bringing it as they only they know how great break down of the song Kofi
Thanks Smoke.
I know black ppl feel alone in this fight sometimes but look at this crowd...youre not alone.
You should definitely react to Wake Up by Rage Against the Machine next 😎
✊🏿
I have been waiting along time to watch the bubble burst ,old now and on my last legs ,but I hope I am here to serve up some pay back !!!!
Me: Mom, I want to go to war!
Mom: We got a war at home!
War at home:
Please react to Down Rodeo, I think you'll really enjoy that one.
👍🏿
And this song was just after the rodney king beating!! Facts! Wow! Just got the chills listening to this song, glad for new listeners that appreciate RATM! Or maybe not a new listener if you saw them with WUTANG, also a pimp rap group
" Know your enemy" 🤘✌
I heard technique in the intro & knew u was gon fuck with this one💪🏽
I was in college when this song came out The first time I heard it literally changed my life 👍
My 2nd time seeing them was that tour that you mentioned - Rage Against The Machine and Wu-Tang Clan, which were my 2 favorite groups at the time. However, by the time they reached my tour stop, at The Gorge, in Washington State, Wu-Tang Clan had dropped out of the tour. But, we got The Roots as a replacement for the Wu. Pretty amazing night. Plus, Atari Teenage Riot opened. Nice reaction. Big tune here
I know that was a dope as concert.
The Roots as replacement? Thats sick
ive just listened to your intro and I already know you gonna have a new boo after this :)
Salute!
If I ever went back in time to original Woodstock id bring this band and have them do this song... Plus a couple other songs. Watch everyone freak out.
Jimi tripped out the National Anthem. We were officially on notice !!
Bulls on Parade please 🙏
👌🏿
So needed.
OH my goodness. I didn't know that Wu-Tang Clan toured with them. Now I'm down the rabbit hole with them and I had no idea Method Man was in that group either. WOW
Fun historical anecdote... when the song was first released as a single in the UK in 1993, it was played on BBC Radio 1, the national pop music radio station in the early afternoon, around 1.30pm-ish. The DJ (Bruno Brookes, for anyone from the UK reading this...), blissfully unaware of the lyrics, exposed the listening masses to at least 6 refrains of "Fuck you, I won't do what you tell me!" before hurriedly turning it off. It was utterly joyous, and one more way this song is the subversive masterpiece it is.
Actually Bruno played the full uncensored version by accident as he was too busy recording a promo for next week’s countdown as Zack was screaming “FUCK YOU I WON’T DO WHAT YA TELL ME” and “MOTHERFUCKER!” over the airwaves at 5:00 PM on a Sunday evening as Bruno cheerfully announced the next song without apologising!
All I can honestly say about this is...WHOOPS!
Freedom.
Can you react to Down Rodeo ? Another great Rage Against The Machine song
When I get a chance I will.
from 1993 and still applies in 2020... 27 years later smh
Great song.
Shitty that we're nearly 30 years later and still dealing with the same issues - a racist, classist police force that can do whatever they want, break whatever law, and never be held accountable.
Until we deal with the root of our problem, it'll stay a problem.
I saw ratm live at the first rock the bells. ❤❤❤❤
Great
they have made a comeback and are on 2020 tour.love rage against the 🚜
Yep
Bullet in the head live!!!
Salute
Rage against the machine were 25 years before their time
I think the reality is that nothing has changed substantially in 25 years. This was written in response the Rodney King beating, and subsequent acquittal of the officers who attacked him. The LA Riots that followed also captured national attention but didn't scale. For 30 more years Black men and women continued to be beaten & murdered by police on (and off) video, and only recently have we reached a breaking point with nationwide protests, riots, and response. RATM has always been relevant, it's just that millions are starting to listen for the first time, making it connect on a whole new level.
RATM = Rage Against The Machine = Music as a Revolutionary Act
yep
Neil Young,” Ohio,” loved that song and never looked back. “What if you knew her and found her dead on the ground.” “We’re finally on our own.”
Just subbed up....I know I'm late to the game....but I love you
Salute!
Wasnt expecting the immortal technique intro but I'm surprised I dont see him and ratm in the same context more often.
Great video bro, I liked how you felt Tom Morello go off on that guitar solo, hell yeah! This band is the shit, their music is still relevant over nearly 25 years later. Check out Know Your Enemy by Rage
Check the playlist.
Another relevant song: For What it’s Worth by Buffalo Springfield. Written in 1969 (I think). I have always loved this song and “One Tin Soldier” by Coven.
This is the Gen X message. We woke up to the same struggle the youth of today is facing. Same ecological, social, economic dystopian world we now live in. Back in the 90's it was already impossible for a middle class couple to afford a house and raise a family. Retirement money, work conditions, pandemic north American poverty was already a thing. It just got worst overtime. The boomers just sucked it out of the 70's born kids. To call a Gen X a boomer is an insult. We woke up to this reality and it went further down the drain for the following generations. And before we die, we will live in a Mad Max reality if today kids don't find a way out. It's either find a way out NOW or go back to the stone age before things get better.
RATM "Wake Up" too
I saw Wu Tang and Rage in Ninety Seven
Got to do a deep dive down the Rage rabbit hole... Sounds like you'd love their message.. Just make sure you do the lyrics videos
Testify Live in London!!!
Yeeessss!!!!
✊🏿🔥🔥🔥
Please check out "Darkness" (sometimes called Darkness of Greed). It's one of their best songs, and it's seriously underrated and not that well known.
Ashes in the Fall. “The jail cells open up to greet you, like a Reaper.” Amazing lyrics !!
I was there!!!!!!
Me too... sorry we did not meet...
EPIC
"down rodeo" "wake up" "maria" "fistful of steel" "calm like a bomb" next please. #RATM
👌🏿
Was just watching some random reactors and your intro playing immortal technique really surprised me. Definitely one of my top 3 favorite hip hop artists. I liked ur reaction to rage aginst the machine i subscribe to you like to see more in the future. Check out Jedi mind tricks- razor blade salvation is a good one but the whole ( servants in heaven Kings in hell) album is good.
This song was written in response to the Rodney King beating and LA riots. Zach sometimes changes the lyric to “some of those that burn crosses are those that hold office” Zach has never been one to pull punches in his lyrics.
👌🏿
Kofi's Universe yo if you really wanted to do something all these RATM reaction videos haven’t done and even most Rage fans don’t even know about. Do a reaction video of “Centre of the Storm” with Roni Size and Zach. It is by far some of Zach’s best lyrics.
Here’s a sample and I won’t ruin the rest.
don’t choke
If you smell smoke
I dip my tongue in gun powder
and I clear my throat
🔥🔥🔥🔥😘
BEST INTRO I EVER HEARED
✊🏿
More than police. Judges and congressmen can be counted
Yep
That reaction to Tom, tho
You really have to do Know your enemy by rage against the machine.

For some reason he reminds me of Keegan-Michael Key xD
👌🏿
Yes, he has an elegant face.
Late to the party, but welcome.
If this was your first time listening, you understood the lyrics very well.
💯
I thought this came out in 91...I was a senior and it was right after the LA Riots, no?
This song is more apt than ever
Yep
The Rodney King beating was so horrific! It was the turning point for a lot of white people who were complacent and didn’t understand!
😁👍
Salute
Please do some more Rage.
Check the playlist
RATM is the BEST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hell yeah
Dude, you need to listen to Skindred "Stand for Something".
Look at all the allies. We been "woke" since we were 11. Love your channel.
Bulls on parade is a better starting spot. Less repetitive of a song...
Great reaction man! Rage is dope as hell!
Thanks Lawrence.
@@KofisUniverse Darkness of Greed is a Rage song with amazing message to it.
Military contractor baby
My Dad was 7th Special Forces, WW2, Korea, Vietnam and then a Mercenary in Saudi. I know we’re up to and it sickens me:
Do rage “down rodeo”
The only thing I don't like about this performance is that they've upped the tempo a bit.
As much as I like Rage I'm still smart enough to know that I don't have to do what they tell me but when my ass is sitting in jail the only person I have to thank is myself.
If you dig Rage you'd dig System of a down.
Yessir!!!
@@KofisUniverse Figured a good chance you already knew,👍, did you choose live version here for any particular reason,? Side note i got to see system live once in Atlanta was a good show.
u guys should check out urban dance squad. they make me proud to be dutch since they where a big inspiration to RAtM
