I like the little detail there, it looks like he goes from sad to angry in his expression as he watches Kuzan fall.
Garp’s prime must’ve so scary, and to think he managed to become one of the strongest characters in the verse without needing a devil fruit or sword.

I know that Luffy is a hand-to-hand fighter, but Garp's fighting style is just so much more satisfying to watch. Garp is a pure brawler. Straight hands.

Agree, Luffy just throws big attacks, needs power ups and cool downs all the time and basically sacrifices his body and health every time he fights.
While Garp uses his experience and strengh to the fullest without ever blindly rushing in.

I realize why Garp cares for Coby so much. His son, his grandson, his adopted grandson and his student all went down a path he didnt want them too, but Coby built himself from the ground up and is following Garp's footsteps
Hopefully Coby has the Conquerors Haki factor, otherwise he might actually need a DF to reach Garps level.

God Garp blocking an ice ball with his hand and using Haki to crack the ice was raw
It proofs that devil fruits are not necessary to be OP.
They are more like a cheat code to Go up the latter faster but once you reach the upper class you have to deal with true skill and your little unfair tricks just wont work anymore.

@@Subpar1O1 the thing is once you own haki, your devil fruit powers are more like a trick in the sleeve to individualize your fighting style. But i like haki too becasue it explaine why crocodile was not using it and was defated so easily in the earlier phase. Its becasue he is bioligicly a woman and used ivankovs powers to become male and as we know haki can stop devil fruit powers so he never could use it or she would become female again. - Also corcodile is luffys mother

Garp out here displaying a master class in how you use haki. He is casually avoiding all attacks like luffy against hody at the start of their fight, he is taking his opponents attacks, infusing them with haki, and sending them back with the slightest touch, using ice to smack around an ice logia user. Using his armament to just no sell all aokijis attempts to freeze his body, and even projecting his armament and conquerors to basically fist launch exploding beams of doom. This kind of thing is why you see so many fanfics where they ignore all devil fruits in favor of mastering haki. Because in the face of overwhelming will, your devil fruit is meaningless. Garp is a BEAST.
You know, this might be a bit of a tangent, but honestly I'm kinda sad that we reached a point where Devil Fruits are basically meaningless are basically just aesthetics. Unless you have a honestly cracked Devil fruit like Luffy or Teach, it basically means nothing, you just compare haki and the one with the biggest haki number wins. We might be getting power level syndrome.

Haki is something you can actually train and improve upon, giving you chances against people objectively much more powerful than you. That, added to the benefit of not being affected by Seastone, Haki users demonstrate strenght obtained by pure determination and persistence, not due to eating funny fruit.
Rely too much in your fruit, and you are cooked.
@@starbound100 It depends in the user, even the worst combat fruits can get really powerfull. Imagine how would Garp be if he also had the Ton-Ton fruit, making all of his attacks from above like 10 times stronger because of all the extra weight to his punches. It's just that only some Devil Fruit users actually use them at their full potential.
@@starbound100 I kind of like it. Devil fruits are basically a shortcut to power. The massive downsides they have make sense when you think of them as if they were basically a cheat. Eat a devil fruit and suddenly you become instantly more dangerous with little effort. But if you want to be STRONG, you need haki. Which relies on tons of hard work and effort. A devil fruit will give you a head start for sure, but at a cost. And it means splitting your focus on training both it and haki long term.
Even Kaido says it. The man with one of the strongest devil fruits out there chock full of insane powers and stat boosts and he declares that its WILL that determines who is strong in this world, not devil fruits.

Aokiji 0:56 turned his back into ice to absorb the fall damage appreciated the nice little detail.
Because making yourself _more_ fragile is clearly the way to survive terminal-velocity impact! ;P
He's survived being shattered. Logia users need their bodies to be in an elemental state to survive damage. That's why they train to do it reflexively.
The fact that he does it here ahead of time shows that he can't trust he'll do it on reflex and he will die on impact.

Garp is trying to learn from his own mistakes. He wavered during marineford and lost his grandson. Now he’s trying to do better for koby. While still battling his own feeling of having to fight one of his previous disciples. While simultaneously giving his previous disciple one last lesson. Goated writing. Goated character.
@@kingmanga8575His wavering in Marineford was the reason Ace managed to escape. Garp not wavering would have meant actively stopping Luffy and watching Ace die.
Garp straight up told Ace ‘if you want me to save you I will’.
Ace did not want it.
It was Garp wavering and ignoring what Ace kept telling him that led to him being freed.
It was Ace’s own decision to fall for a playground taunt that got Luffy in trouble and thereby Ace dead.

Yeah, tech is changing. And from what I hear - many talented art designers who couldn't be in the industry of action animation made their talents show on RUclips so now, most of them are being hired. There're hundreds of action animation guys whose works are on RUclips so all they have is a call for some specific scenes. Not just One Piece, in the upcoming Demon Slayer and action anime coming in 2025 - action anime scenes will be a whole new level of reality and free-form. Fasten that sit belt of yours, you're in a roller-coaster 😊.

Not only that, animation studio budgets went up since the whole issue with mappa. Since wano started they've concentrated on animating the fights better specifically because they know they are going to be more iconic. I'm all for it. Toei Finally gave One Piece the animation it deserved.
At the end you can tell Garp is regretful that things had to be this way for him to fight Aokiji when you see his face, and it hits harder knowing how fond he is of his pupils like Koby. Garp is really a great character.

i say that Aokjii is on is own personal sidequest. Remember he was the helping hand for Robin to escape the ohara as the only person. And what did we learned few chapters ago? Right, Clover the Head of those scientists s a "D" and he lost his brother because of having to much informations about the "truth". Wirhout Aokji there wouldnt be Robin in Luffys crew and without her no chance to get to the end. once again isay Ajokii is one of us

Haki is one thing, but the greatest power in One Piece is the way characters keep their f*cking coats hanging on their shoulders during insane levels of combat. . .
In real life, they would be pinned on.
The idea behind the coats staying on their shoulders is centered around the characters willpower they are literally willing the coat to stay on

This is why people need to understand Luffy is so strong. Monstrous physical strength runs in his bloodline. He was already one of the physical strongest characters BEFORE the time skip. What he lacked was Haki + Experience. He never lacked raw physical strength.
So after gaining tons of experience + haki mastery + devil fruit mastery it only makes sense why he’s so much stronger (overall) than most.
The Great Blue Hole is a giant marine sinkhole off the coast of Belize. It lies near the center of Lighthouse Reef, a small atoll 70 km (43 mi) from the mainland and Belize City. The hole is circular in shape, 318 m (1,043 ft) across and 124 m (407 ft) deep.
This is such an insane moment but what I love personally is how we have NEVER seen Aokiji in a compromising position or losing his cool, this is the only time (to my knowledge) we have EVER seen Aokiji on his toes and nervous.
Only time we’ve seen Kuzan lose his cool was after the fight with Garp.

We were happy when "The end of the old era" meant it was over for Kaido and Big Mom's time. We forgot that Garp also was a big part of that "Old Era". Their time...for better or worse, is over.

This is why kaido said, haki will always beat DFs. This isn't even Garp in his prime and you see the fear in kuzans eyes, and he went toe to toe with akainu
Not really a surprise. Besides Garp, you see guys like Roger, Rayleigh, Oden, Mihawk and Shanks who are ridiculously strong and they don't have DF.
Eh, I dunno, Haki definitely levels the playing field, but 1 out the three types of Haki are genetic, so if you don't have Conquerors you're at a huge disadvantage sice you can't knock people out just by existing and also can't do that thing where you infuse the conquerors haki into the body without touching them and bypass all defenses.
A good DF or someone that knows how to maximize the potential of even a niche DF can go beyond what someone with just pure Haki can.
Think about Gear 5 for example. If Luffy never developed Haki but managed to achieve Gear 5 early, he'd still be almost on the level he's at right now since Gear 5 literally allows him to warp the laws of physics in ways Haki can't defend against.
@MisterZimbabwe You don't necessarily need Conqueror's haki. Guys like Oden and Mihawk are prime examples and I don't think Garp has it either but you see they are top tier fighters that can go against any devil fruit user. In fact, we saw how Vergo (someone who also doesn't have Conqueror's Haki) was able to easily defeat Smoker.
Luffy has a rare devil fruit so he's unique but how far do you think would go if he didn't do Haki training with Rayleigh for those 2 years. He wouldn't go far in the new world. In fact we saw how he couldn't do anything against a single Pacifista before the time skip.
Akainu and Kuzan fought for 10 days before finally having Akainu come out the winner and both of them where scarred from it. Garp sent Kuzan into the bedrock in like a minute.

When you see Garp's expression at the end, you can see he regrets that things had to go this way so he could battle Aokiji, and it hurts much more knowing how much he loves his students, especially Koby. Garp is a very remarkable character.

@@alexanderson2502 in all seriousness I agree. There’s no telling how strong akainu is. But considering aokiji was fighting fairly evenly with garp after he stopped “wavering” and the fact that he never used his awakening it can be argued that aokiji and akainu r around the same lvl as garp… at least old garp. My only real point is I’m tired of people overrating these old gens. A lot of people genuinely think if sengoku didn’t hold back garp he would’ve low diffed akainu. That’s delusional.

I love Garp's philosophy that those who waver in their beliefs are weak. It makes sense since Haki is essentially fueled by willpower and Garp is top 5 if not top 2 of the strongest haki users in the verse.

Finally being able to see Garp who was definitely an Admiral level character flex his stuff is just so satisfying. I felt the show had done him such injustice until this moment.
How did the show do him injustice? They’ve been saying for 100s of episodes that he was one of the only characters that could rival Roger. Roger himself said they almost killed eachother on multiple occasions.
