This was the first Rage song I ever heard. It inspired me to buy their first album, which turned out to be extremely influential to me as a developing musician. If you listen to the version from The Crow soundtrack, I think they remastered it a bit, sounds a bit cleaner.
Yes, this version is way cleaner, and the delivery of the lyrics is way better. My opinion that the guitar solo from the original version fits way better with the sound of the song, but as a whole, the Crow version is much better.
This single song adds so much depth to their catalog for me. The bass groove is something you don't hear on the first 2 albums (which are perfect masterpieces). When I discovered this song later on, my jaw dropped!
So glad you ended up doing this. I probably already commented this but I was at least one of the people requesting this and said it’s underrated so....can you believe you are the ONLY reaction to this song?!? I’m not just glad you did it cause I got to see you react to a song I love. I’m glad you put it out there, for everyone. Especially anyone that’d never heard it. You just opened their world up to these words and music. Particularly in light of the state of things right now. Rage against the Machine couldn’t be more appropriate as one of the theme bands of the protests/maybe hopeful revolution!! Oh, bro. Native American hip hop. Check out Miracle-Supaman ft. an awesome woman who’s name I can’t spell 🤷♂️ And that’ll open up a whole new rabbit hole for you(supaman n passionate MC have a great song too)!! Learn Truth-RA rugged man ft Talib Kweli is badass also. Sorry to go off but I’m pretty sure you’d love these!!
Another great reaction! I want to request some that I feel are underrated: RATM: Snakecharmer, Revolver, Born of a Broken Man (an autobiographical song about Zack’s dad after he had a mental breakdown and turned to religion and abuse of Zack); Zack and KRS-One: CIA (Criminals in Action); Zack and Saul Williams: Act 3 Scene II (Shakespeare); One Day as a Lion: Wild International and One Day as a Lion; Zack and DJ Shadow: March of Death; Zack and Run the Jewels: A Message to the Shareholders/Kill Your Masters and Close Your Eyes (and Count to Fuck) Zack: Digging for Windows
Check out RATM Complete Discography, Live at The Grand Olympic and their concert across the street from The Staples Center during the 2000 Democratic National Convention
I know you love Zach so check out Run the Jewels he's in the songs "Kill your masters" and "Close your eyes and count to f**k" - also check out the Prophets of Rages song "Unfuck the World". Its the same band as rage just with B Real and Chuck D swapped out for Zach. All are cool projects!
My BFF back then now wife was playing the Crow sound track for me so I can hear The Cure and NIN cover of Joy Division...when this song came on I lost my mind. That's when my RATM addiction started.
Very cool you found this track. I had a friend in high school with The Crow soundtrack and it took me years to find it again. I used to get weird looks asking about the RATM track that sounds like lounge music lol
Only real fans know that song. Its still in my iTunes library since the 90’s lol Off The Crow soundtrack so early 90’s? I’m taking a guess here, not tryna cheat using google.
David Vied ya it had a lot of great songs. Dead Souls and Gogothem Tenamemblues (or sum shit like that) plus RATM. Color Me Once Violent Femmes man, great soundtrack!
Thanks for all the great content .and great music..rage definitely under rated on this track..Zack been in hiding ever since he left rage .he didn't want the culture shoved down his throat. I imagine that still holds strong even more here in 2024
In 1994, I thought this song sounded awesome and had a great solo. A white teenager from the suburbs of Boston sure as fuck wouldn't "get" the lyrics. I had listened to my fair share of hip hop, but I didn't really "get" that, either. It was just fun to listen to. Listening to this now is different. The groove is killer, and Morello is a genius, obviously, but...fuck. It's been 25 fucking years and every bit of this is just as relevant. Nothing has changed. On a similar note, please react to King Los' recent LA Leakers clip. He gets into some heavy shit at the end of that too, and his lyricism and control throughout is simply mindboggling.
If you listen closely you can hear the *exact* moment I realised the lead singer of RATM was black. I'd only seen blurry or distant photos of RATM before and I'd never much paid attention to it, but this song has always spoken to me in a way that Killing in the Name never managed to.
So happy you did this one. This song is so underground and underrated. When I first heard it I got goosebumps. You get Rage. Awesome reactions. Great job! You're blowin up too.
This is hands down, one of my top 5 favorite Rage tracks, and it's crazy that they never released it on a full length album, but the Crow movie soundtrack. I'm so glad you checked it out and enjoyed it. Outstanding!
Nice bro, you're the first channel I've seen to React to this particular song. Love it when you veer off the path of the 'usual suspects' that reactors normally go with.
Finally! For weeks I've been trying to find this song. I could remember the way it sounded, and some of the lyrics, but I'd not heard it for a few years, and could not remember its name. All I could think of was No Shelter.
Hey bro I saw you about to interrupt the solo and check yourself!! Lol. Your facial reaction says it all man. I think it's the same thing everyone feels when they hear all their music hahaha. And you said it best after. Haha. You are a smart man. Never interrupt a guitar solo. Especially one from the Great Tom Morello. You never know what he might do. Takes you places!!! RATM!!!!
Jamel, your reactions are gold, you are doing a service here while having an amazing experience! Darkness is so fire, one of Rage Against the Machine's best. And as you say, so much good music in the world.
Loved this song. A lesser known RATM song to be honest. This song was originally from their first demo album, then it was included in the Crow soundtrack. But the song was first performed by Zack when he was still with his previous band Inside Out. So basically you are listening to a Prototype Rage Against the Machine.
This was on the soundtrack to the first Crow movie back in the 90s. Whole movie with Brandon Lee aka Bruce Lee’s son is great and so is the soundtrack.
Ratm vietnow , whitout a face, tire me, wind below, roll right album evil empire second one if you want some more crazy scratches on guitar and zach spitting
the break down part is awesome, i been listening alot to RatM since like 92 (the release year of that RatM album) and the lyrics of that very song are just incredibly good and burned to my brain (ofc i also watched the crow back then, ending with the passing of Brandon Lee), although i could come up with so many others aswell -->Darkness is probably their best song
Great track. This is the second song I ever heard by RATM and the first time I heard Zack in full rap-mode. It was originally released as one of two "B Side" tracks on their first CD single ("Killing in the Name") in 1991. Although that version was slightly different: when he came in for the second verse he let out a loud "RRRRAAAAGH!". And Tom's guitar solo was a bit different too. I think the version you reacted to was the re-recorded version for "The Crow" soundtrack.
imagine not watching Umphrey's Mcgee live videos of them performing 'Hurt Bird Bath, Wizard Bariul Ground, 2x2 and soo many more" never hear it the same way twice.
The Crow version (this version) is actually not the original. Search for the version from "Live & Rare". The main differences is the delivery of the lyrics and the guitar solo.
There’s another version of this song with a straight jazz guitar solo instead of the unique Morello solo we just heard. If you have never heard Morello shred on a jazz guitar solo, you need to search for that version until you find it. 🔥
Yr passion for music is amazing! Can ya check out the video for“Guillotine” by the Coup? They got a similar message to RATM and with a sense of humor. Plus their singer was in a band with Tom Morello.
This song was on The Crow movie track and my favorite on there. That whole soundtrack is amazing though
Watch The Crow for the first time tonight! What song?
Oh this song literally.
Amen to that, that soundtrack was how I discovered this song.
@@NewExile Hands down, still the best soundtrack of all time
This is easily their best song.
Rage's ability to mobilize is bar none.
AGREED Charlie.
Shit man; I’ve been a Rage fan since 1996. How TF am I now hearing this track? My God, this slaps!!!
How have I never heard this song? Shit's a banger.
This single song adds so much depth to their catalog for me. The bass groove is something you don't hear on the first 2 albums (which are perfect masterpieces). When I discovered this song later on, my jaw dropped!
Check out “Year of the Boomerang”. Crazy underrated track.
I second that. All of the songs from One Day As a Lion too!!! You will shit!!!
Also....Without a Face may be the most underrated song by Rage. Do that one!
"Roll right" is also underated.
I know all the words to that song, that’s how much I listen to it haha
VERY underrated track
You should do a whole ass react of The Crow soundtrack. The best soundtrack ever put together with a film.
The Singles movie soundtrack was great too. Even The Spawn soundtrack. And Strangeland.
Totally agree! I still play it to this day.
Not many RATM fans even know this song, glad you were able to find it. One of my favourites. And once again... "Soothsayer" by Buckethead!
Buckethead!!!
Yeah, this song is from the Soundtrack for The Crow. Originally it was on their demo tape, but they re-recorded it.
Still one of the best soundtracks!🤟
i think you'd really dig the solo on Settle for Nothing, nobody really reacts to that song either. it gives me goosebumps
Yes and great lyrics
Great song!
piratexander yup esp. The solo from there Live & Rare album.
I love that song!! So dark with Excellent lyrics!!
I love playing that solo on guitar, this is another favorite of mine.
Maggie's Farm (a cover they did)
Vietnow (live version)
War Within A Breath
Housin (cover)
Tim on bass is always great. Also, he plays with only finger: fact
Not a fact like at all LOL. But yes, he's a freaking BEAST. Rage's rhythm section is crazy, bass and drums holdin' it down.
He meant his fingers rather than a pick.
@@Ihad9eyes , my bad, I think I read it wrong. Cheers man!
I thought you said he only plays with one finger lol.
This whole soundtrack is a banger!!!!
Im telling you, C.I.A. with Zach, KRS One and The Last Emporer is straight fire.
...you should definitely react to it.
YES
“You know the cops they got a network for the toxic rocks”
yes ive been asking him forever to do this one lol lets vote on it
"but you be doing that"
I've been listening to rage for a long while. I've never heard this song before until now.
It was written before their first album but went unreleased until it on The Crow soundtrack.
Sonny Savage Thanks for the input.

RATM (Allen Ginsberg)- It Hadda Be Playin' On The Jukebox
S Toy one of their best
YES
'Ashes in the Fall' is very underrated. Also check out 'Year of the Boomerang'. Both 🔥🔥🔥
Ashes in the Fall. . . .
Without a face is fire too.
In fact, I'm kind of surprised no one has brought it up. One of my favorites.
Someone needs to bring up Snakecharmer
As much as I love his reactions to Zach's lyrics I think his reactions to Tom making his guitar sound like a fuckin musical saw is almost better.
Holy shit...I've never heard this song before.
I love the sound of this song, for sure a new favorite of theirs for me.
Another great reaction! I want to request some that I feel are underrated:
RATM: Snakecharmer, Revolver, Born of a Broken Man (an autobiographical song about Zack’s dad after he had a mental breakdown and turned to religion and abuse of Zack);
Zack and KRS-One: CIA (Criminals in Action);
Zack and Saul Williams: Act 3 Scene II (Shakespeare);
One Day as a Lion: Wild International and One Day as a Lion;
Zack and DJ Shadow: March of Death; Zack and Run the Jewels: A Message to the Shareholders/Kill Your Masters and Close Your Eyes (and Count to Fuck)
Zack: Digging for Windows
The music was so meaningful and absolute magic. It was amazing. Pure genius. This is why certain music is timeless.
Check out Rage Against the Machine "Born of a Broken Man"
I second this, one of their best songs
Check out RATM Complete Discography, Live at The Grand Olympic and their concert across the street from The Staples Center during the 2000 Democratic National Convention
YEEESSSSS! Love this song so much!
First heard this track on my dad’s copy of The Crow soundtrack. RIP Brandon Lee, and Thuy Trang. 🙏
Your face during that solo was exactly what I was expecting! Glad you did this one.
Please do Settle for Nothing, without a face, lyric video! ✊
If it needs to be said it'll be said!!! RATM straight truthers!!
My BFF back then now wife was playing the Crow sound track for me so I can hear The Cure and NIN cover of Joy Division...when this song came on I lost my mind. That's when my RATM addiction started.
This has always been one of my favorites! Thank you for the reaction. The message is so freakin' strong and still relevant!
Very cool you found this track. I had a friend in high school with The Crow soundtrack and it took me years to find it again. I used to get weird looks asking about the RATM track that sounds like lounge music lol
Only real fans know that song. Its still in my iTunes library since the 90’s lol
Off The Crow soundtrack so early 90’s? I’m taking a guess here, not tryna cheat using google.
Stoned Immaculate Crow soundtrack is fukkin awesome, best soundtrack ever, that was highly anticipated by me and a few buddies around ‘94 I believe
David Vied ya it had a lot of great songs. Dead Souls and Gogothem Tenamemblues (or sum shit like that) plus RATM. Color Me Once Violent Femmes man, great soundtrack!
MF DOOM Madvillain I still have the CD but I cant remember that one. Need to dig it up again!
Golgotha Tenement Blues -> Big Empty -> Dead Souls -> Darkness is SUCH a great sequence. They did a masterful job with that soundtrack.
Elizabeth Moses oh god yes, Color Me Once brings back so many bad memories but I love that song!
I've been a RATM fan for 15 years but this is my first time hearing this track. Thanks for sharing this, love your content and positive attitude!
First time hearing this track and I've listened to RATM a good while now. No lie, this track has been on repeat. Shit is 🔥🔥🔥
I love this song! I would add that the Europeans also gave us their religion.
Revolver from RATM is pure hot fire
Matt Pace heck yeah
Deep. So deep
Hot fire like Dylan
Rage against the machine
Clear the lane
The Crow soundtrack literally changed my life as a young kid. This song and Big Empty (STP) were my favorites
The funk is strong with this one lol. Heavy and funky
Thanks for all the great content .and great music..rage definitely under rated on this track..Zack been in hiding ever since he left rage .he didn't want the culture shoved down his throat. I imagine that still holds strong even more here in 2024

This track was on THE CROW Soundtrack...and I know I'm months late, but DAMN, This is my FAVORITE RATM song.👑 Thanks Jamal for giving it a listen Bro!
If you listen closely you can hear the *exact* moment I realised the lead singer of RATM was black.
I'd only seen blurry or distant photos of RATM before and I'd never much paid attention to it, but this song has always spoken to me in a way that Killing in the Name never managed to.
One of the GREATEST RATM songs!!! Thank u for doing! Zack needs to be heard! The RAZA needs to be heard! Amazing band! Amazing song!
Look up Fishbone...they’ve been funky since ‘79. They still tour and it will be one of the best live shows you’ve seen!!
This was the first Rage song I ever heard, and not knowing who they were, I asked my friend if it was some Beastie Boys 🙃
May not be your most viewed reaction, but much respect for doing this one, this song needs more attention.
So happy you did this one. This song is so underground and underrated. When I first heard it I got goosebumps. You get Rage. Awesome reactions. Great job! You're blowin up too.

👍🏾
This is one of those I totally forgot about over the years. Thanks for the revisit and a new one for the play list!
Cool what you said I feel you get it and really enjoyed the music and the one pause I believe, much appreciated.
Finally! For weeks I've been trying to find this song. I could remember the way it sounded, and some of the lyrics, but I'd not heard it for a few years, and could not remember its name. All I could think of was No Shelter.
MUCH appreciation for knowing when NOT to pause! 😆
You GET it!👊
Hey bro I saw you about to interrupt the solo and check yourself!!
RATM!!!!
Songs from the Crow soundtrack 1994, but was also on RATMs first demo prior to getting a record deal. So it’s actually from 1991.
I remember when this came out it was on the crow movie soundtrack. Still the jam. I still wanna here how to be played on a jukebox .
Jamel, your reactions are gold, you are doing a service here while having an amazing experience! Darkness is so fire, one of Rage Against the Machine's best. And as you say, so much good music in the world.
React to "I'm housin'" & "Pistol Grip Pump" from Renegades album
Just subscribed, listening from the Island of Guam. Grew up listening to Rage Against The Machine and can relate to this.
Loved this song. A lesser known RATM song to be honest.
This song was originally from their first demo album, then it was included in the Crow soundtrack. But the song was first performed by Zack when he was still with his previous band Inside Out.
So basically you are listening to a Prototype Rage Against the Machine.
So glad someone finally reacted to this!! Glad you liked this ☺️
This song is insanely good. The lyrics. One of my favorites from The Crow Soundtrack. This song gets overlooked a lot. The beat and sound. 👏👏👏👏🔥🔥🔥🔥
You made my week. Keep it going! Love your channel!
It’s kinda sad but you are still the only reaction to this song!! Thank goodness you did it 😁
THIS is my all time favorite Rage song! It’s a beast!
Heck yeah!! You did it!!! Thank you so much!!
I’m seeing RATM on March 30th! I’ve been dreaming of this my whole life...literally.
You're the only person I've seen react to this song. It's my 2nd favorite song by them
This was on the soundtrack to the first Crow movie back in the 90s. Whole movie with Brandon Lee aka Bruce Lee’s son is great and so is the soundtrack.
I'm glad your a Rage fan homie, respect!
This was the first song I heard from Rage. Off the Crow soundtrack
Hell yes!
Please react to more of their songs from the Evil Empire record.
Ratm vietnow , whitout a face, tire me, wind below, roll right album evil empire second one if you want some more crazy scratches on guitar and zach spitting
Absolutely to all of those
oo yes please
underated... understatement, there. The entire album is that: Excellent story telling...
Love your deep dive into Rage bro! Subbed and anxiously waiting for the next!
the break down part is awesome, i been listening alot to RatM since like 92 (the release year of that RatM album) and the lyrics of that very song are just incredibly good and burned to my brain (ofc i also watched the crow back then, ending with the passing of Brandon Lee), although i could come up with so many others aswell -->Darkness is probably their best song

WOW, I totally forgot about this song!! I haven't listened to The Crow Soundtrack in quite some time.
Made me think of one that I’d like to see you check out...Cult of Personality by: Living Colour 1988(Love watching you dude! Diana from central NC😉)
Wow! First time listening to this song.... underrated for sure
imagine not watching Umphrey's Mcgee live videos of them performing 'Hurt Bird Bath, Wizard Bariul Ground, 2x2 and soo many more" never hear it the same way twice.

JUST WHENYOU THOUGHT YOU FOUND A SOFTER ONE , BOOM BOOM RAGE LYRICAL POEM RAPPIN. GREAT MORELLO SHIT ON THIS ONE. JT FROM MEX

Straight hip hop. Definitely their best track.
Holy sheeett Monster RATM fan and never heard dis b4 fok 😍
oh yah!! my first rage song.
The Crow soundtrack FTW. ( the first, original movie)
You were about to pause to make a comment, but then Morello was like, "Nah, man, I've got to do my thing now."
Nice, knew you'd dig that one. When you get the chance check out A Sight to Behold from Gojira
I was just listening to this today thinking you need to hear it, it's very early RATM from a demo album they did in 91.
This is a great song! I tell people about it and they don't know what I'm talking about!
Check out the “Year of the Boomerang” by RATM. Excellent song by them!
Masterpiece. A masterpiece.
YO!!! THE CROW IS MY FAVORITE SOUNDTRACK...EVER!!!! RAGE WAS DOPE AF...IS DOPE!!
One my favorite Rage songs. 🤜🏻
The Crow Soundtrack! Brings me back! ✌️
The hip hop group the Arsonists used that part in a song. Its dope.
