Robert Downey Jr is a national treasure
As a Black man, the only thing that offended me about RDJ's portrayal of Kirk Lazarus was that he didn't get an Oscar for that role, because he more than deserved it.
Black man overlooked for an Oscar.
Typical.
Its pretty understandable when you see who he lost to...
@@TimedRevolver
And that's how good of a method actor Kirk Lazarus is!
Which makes him deserve the Oscar even more!
He was playing three dudes!
We in the black community knew that it was a joke and a parody of how old Hollywood did things. It was a joke and RDJ played it brilliantly. The entire movie was a joke about Hollywood studios, movie agents, actors, racism, bigotry, commercialism, drug use and masculinity. The point of comedy is to have a laugh at the absurdity of real life.
That's funny cause black people NEVER satirize themselves. You guys never look at yourselves critically, ever
Well the character was moreso parodying actors that method acted to the extreme and how actors are ironically extremely out of touch with the real world.
Exactly! But this generation are total morons to understand that and want to get rid of good comedy
Exactly. Black people weren’t the butt of the joke, he was
Exactly. The absurdity of hiring a white Australian actor who darkens his skin (who’s played by the very American RDJ) was not lost on black folks.
My black a$$ would quote RDJ all the time after seeing this movie. “I was a saucier down in San Anton!” 😂
My usual go to quote is “I’m a dude playing a dude disguised as another dude” 🤣
😂😂😂
I think Brandon Jackson is the unsung hero of this cast. One of the reasons RDJ was able to pull this off was because “Alpa Chino” was calling out his method acting bullshit at every turn. 😂
All part of the plan! That’s why it works so much… and so many who got all offended by RDJ’s role, missed the plot and part of the reason for Brandon Jackson’s acting choices, and character’s presence.
@@NestorCaster Brandon’s role in this really deserves more attention and analysis!
(Also, I just love playing the Booty Sweat song. It’s fun and hilarious.)
100%! He was the perfect foil to Lazarus’ method idiocy.
Great point 😂 him calling out the nonsense definitely makes it alot funnier
He’s not, and they’re both the joke.. how are you this stupid? You must’ve voted Obama..
I'm the dude playing a dude disguised as another dude!
“For 400 years, that word has kept us down” 😂😂😂😂
That monologue killed me. The whole movie murdered me. Tropic Thunder is one of my favourite movies and one of the funniest I’ve ever watched
RDJ had me convinced he was an actual black person for a few seconds during that monologue
@@kentinson1670I didn’t know it was him until halfway through the movie.
RDJ had me rip my spleen right down the seams with his performance!!!! Funny as HELL!!!!
This is my favorite role that RDJ did!!
Between RDJ and Tom Cruise, how could anyone not love this. The fact it couldn't be made today shows our society is off it's rocker
For extra hilarity, I, as a black person, dressed up as Kirk Lazarus for Halloween 😂
I want pictures!!!! That sounds brilliant!
Your sense of humor is awesome 👏
I would have paid to see that.
Brilliant!!!
A black dude putting on a military outfit and saying he’s dressed as Kirk Lazarus is very funny
“Any Tips, Any Tips? Gimmie dat goddam map!!” gets me every time 😂😂😂
No word of a lie! When I first watched this movie at the end I literally said "where the hell was Robert Downey Junior?!" 😂😂😂
This film was SOOOO funny we watch it every couple of years!
This is one of my favorite movies
The commentary was the best part. His line of “not breaking character til the dvd commentary” was true because RDJ stayed in character *the entire time.* Constant laughter from the other actors and uncontrollable laughter and crying from me.
Watch the "Tropic Thunder Behind the Scenes with Srgt Lincoln Osiris" video on youtube. I am not joking when I say it is funnier than the movie. It is literally the best improve acting I have ever seen.
Robert Downey played this role like his life was on the line. And for him, it legitimately was
Such a good movie. It's a shame this can't be done again right now. Downey is superhuman.
“Just cause it’s the theme song, don’t make it not true..”
Nah bro we need them to release RDJ audition tapes for this😂😂
We will not open pandora’s box lmfao
Today's generation would be "offended" by it. Lol.
I dont think he had to audition, he was directly offered the role.
You can watch his behind the scenes prep movie on the DVD. Might be on YT. Its more hilarious than the movie. He's in an apartment method acting the jungle
He was "A dude, disguised a dude, playin' another dude."
His acting was outrageous in all the right ways.
I'm glad the movie was a hit, I'm glad the audiences loved it, but I'm also really glad the actors had fun making it.
Tom Cruze was likewise amazing. Man, everyone was.
Everyone is gay once in a while.. where is that iconic line 😂
Hope we all can still laugh together in 2024! 😂
🫂
This was RDJ Best Role, Iron Man be damned 😂😂😂
Specially later in the film when he is playing an Australian actor playing a black American soldier playing a Vietnamese rice farmer.
@@patfer1189 🤣🤣🤣👍
When Jamie Fox said he was at a party for Robert Downey Jr and he said how dare you take all these parts from black people and had everyone at the party laughing. I knew black people had Robert’s back. 😂
I don't judge people by race. I judge them on whether or not they knew that was the theme song from The Jeffersons.
Solid reasoning. 👍🏻
Eastside pie, for all 🎉
Amen! Lol
We moving on up now.
😂😂😂
Hilarious 😂
I watched the movie with the Audio Commentary on. RDJ stays in character until the part of the movie where he says he doesn't break character until the audio Commentary 😂
Had he not been up against Heath Ledger at the Oscars, RDJ would definitely have won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for this movie.
I almost forgot he was nominated and won as well.
Both legends
@@cry9438 Agreed
For some reason I thought this came out in 2009, makes sense now why he didn’t win that award.
This movie is truely one of the most underrated films of alltime straight legends
You know the actors were laughing their asses off every second they werent filming
Us Black people are cool with it because RDJ did such a good job with his accent, he was actually trying to sound like a black dude and he wasn’t mocking a black dude. I swear he sound just like one of my uncles.
RDJ's face during @ immediately after "Script reads me,I don't read the script" @ "Script!Script! What are you trying to get at!!Spit that shit out, man"! He's trying so hard not to laugh. That little smile at the end!!😁
I always felt like in that moment Kurt had no idea what his character would do in this situation and so he ran through the gambit of all the expressions for the camera. Or he just finally shut down. 😂
Robert downey one of the best black actors.
I'm a black man in California trying to cope in the tech world of silicon valley. I watched RDJ and he made me feel like a straight uncle tom
Rdj killed it in that movie
My favorite movie 😅😊😅
So so good when ppl notice the nuanced shit RDJ does like the “any tips” part
I watched this in the theater and at first thought the previews were real. Couple times I forgot it was RDJ, he’s that good!
RDJ impersonating his mother “Bobby, I have a bad feeling about this”- was the best part. Plus Rogan’s full on belly laugh!🤣
It's crazy how this role for rdj came after iron man so he was wel known at this time and he played this role sooo perfectly
I had forgotten this came out AFTER Iron Man.
This is absolutely my favorite Robert Downey Jr character. Great movie too, also has my favorite Tom Cruz character 😂
I have never once watched a reaction to these scenes where people of all races weren't laughing nearly uncontrollably. You know what that means? It's funny and it's absolutely FINE! This was brilliant when it was made and it remains brilliant and anyone who complains is probably biting the inside of their cheeks so hard to keep from laughing they'll probably have scars.
Exactly. But there's always someone in the comment section that has to claim we're too sensitive now to enjoy it.
RDJ should have won black artist of the year for this... ❤ he was soooo good.
Should have won an Oscar for best actor
against who.... health ledger in batman?
Oscars mean jack shit now
Say no more he won
@@MyOpinionish They don't now but 15 years ago they still had some meaning.
Camp Crystal Charlie: 11:14 [chuckles] I really thought that was a black man at the beginning...
Me: That's what thought too.🤣
Ive never seen mr boyd laugh so hard 😂 love his videos. The man dives in in stuff in such a calm analytical way.
We the Black Delegation in this years draft pick choose RDJ
No ways, we from the White Delegation will only accept if release prince harry and pay proper respects for Crocodile Dundee.
Should've added the I don't read script, the script reads me and the when they find out about Lance🤣🤣🤣
man those second reactors i couldn't even hear what they were laughing at
The fact that Robert Downey Jr. played a Black man and Black people found it hilarious is a testimony to his brilliance as an actor. The Parody was pure comedic genius. I am Black and the first time I saw him made up as a black person I died laughing. I don't think this film would get made today. Far too many easily offended, thinned-skinned, crybabies, who can't even stomach laughing at parody and the absurdity of Racism. Any topic, culture, condition, lifestyle, etc. can be funny. It just depends on how creative those who are trying to convey that humor are. RDJ knocked it out of the park.
I'm pretty sure that more white people complain about this than black people, they feel the need to even get into a discussion that is not up to them to decide
This movie couldn't be made today? ohh you must not have seen "Blazing Saddles" Mel Brooks goes even harder in that one and that was a couple of decades before this one. Some didn't think Tropic Thunder could be made at its time and be widely accepted ...until it was made.
@@dunbarf2413 I have seen Blazing Saddles. I am 66 years old and saw it in the theaters when it first came out. When Tropic Thunder came out the country wasn't as PC like today.
He didn’t play a black man. He played a crazy actor playing a black man. And never in my life have I ever met one person who was offended by his role or this movie. And even if I did find one, the number of people I have seen/heard enjoy this movie far outweigh the possibly near nonexistent number of people who are offended. The supreme irony is that the dozens of people who claim that this movie couldn’t be made today are themselves being quite sensitive of the supposed outrage of others. Do you know what the opposite of that would be? Not caring. Not caring about people who might take offense. Not claiming to be irritated to the point of victimization- just not caring. To the point where these hypothetical people don’t matter and aren’t even worth mentioning.
@@SpontaneousAndStructured Being "a crazy actor playing a black man" is the same as playing a black man as I said before. The operative word is (Playing). As far as who may be offended if that movie was made today, I notice you have suggested a small amount. Yet you have no idea the numbers or the level of sensitivity compared to when that film was made. Hollywood is all about making money and today they adhere to the PC generation who are less tolerant of what they perceive as racist, sexist, homophobic, etc. Not caring is most likely the sentiment of most regarding the audience, Yet those who green-light these films do. Which often results in films like Tropic Thunder not being made. You can't name a film made today that is even close to Tropic Thunder, there is a reason for that.
He should of won an Oscar.
No other movie makes me as happy as tropic thunder. Showing it to someone for the first time is glorious
RDJ killed it in this movie. In an already great and hilarious film, he stood way out. Impressive.
Definitely watching Tropic Thunder now. 🤣
Sure makes 2008 seem like a long long time ago
RDJ should have gotten an oscar that year for this but unfortunately Heath Ledger also put in one of the greatest performances that year too for the Dark Knight. Both were so fantastic they should have awarded two best supporting actor awards that year.
Wow. I got a chance to watch all my reactions in one spot on one of the funniest movies ever. Tropic Thunder, teaches us how to laugh at ourselves and this collection made my day.
This is the last movie came out when Hollywood still had some balls ❗️
Tropic Thunder is hands down one of the funniest movies to ever put all these actors together and somehow they made it work. RDJ was the guy for me with his method acting.
Lmao 🤣
I remember seeing this in theaters it was amazing
As a black man I love this 🤣🤣🤣
After 2024, 200 more years to go 😂 FREEDOM
RDJ father directed a couple of black exploitation movies on the 70's and his performance reminds of those men in those movies. loved his performance
Tropic Thuder best comedic actors....ben stiller bill hader danny Mcbride Tom Cruise and IronMan himself RDJ....when i first watched this i thought he was really black 😂😂😂😂 😂😂😂and
It was diabolical that RDJ didnt get an oscar for that role.😂😂😂
I'm being real. Tropic thunder is maybe the funniest movie i ever watched
The best part of the “What do you mean, you people?” Scene is when Alpa asks Osiris’ character the same question he simply grunts at stiller like he doesn’t hear it.
🤣🤣🤣
Second best role Downey has ever played.
The Sympathizer: hold my Downeys
For four hundred years this movie has made us laugh
Everyone always misses the “Dane Cook River” part. That sh*t deserves some recognition. Sounds exactly like a Vietnamese river name.
RDJ was wildin man 😂
On behalf of the Black delegation…we have NO problem with RDJ as Lincoln Osiris. He was just a dude, playing a dude, playing ANOTHER dude!
NA NA NA man let me take a look at tat map right quick 😂😂😂😂😂😂
😭😭😭😭That Mfker said for 400 years😂😭😭😭
This movie is solid gold.
I watched it in the theater!
When I’m sad it’s my go to!!
It wasn't inappropriate, it's comedy and as funny as fu*k! 😂😂😂
One the best comedies of all time you need to watch Blazing Saddles lol😂
If you got to watch this movie on DVD, there is a commentary track with the cast and RDJ does it still in character as Osiris.
Jeez, the movie is only 15 years old, amazing how brutally sensitive the culture has become.
We allowed the crazies to run the asylum. People are now so worried about being canceled because too many use it as a hammer to silence anyone who thinks differently. It’s quite disheartening now.
Exactly 😂😂
2010 to nownwoke shy
Read some books. Stop listening to men in suits@@iancruz6617
Its crazy seeing these people flabbergasted at the lightest shit.
Ok. Hear me out. Remake, "Blazing Saddles"
With RDJ as Kirk Lazarus as Sheriff Bart.....😊
I could get behind that.
This movie needs to be in every movie theater across this County. It will out do any movie going up against it... I'd go see multiple times.
On Joe Rogan's JRE channel 4 years ago, Joe ask RDJ if Tropic Thunder made today?
When comedy was taken as it was meant to be taken
9:19 - "I don't read the script...the script reads me..." 😂😂😂
He killed it
This movie is so underrated 😂
Oscar winning performance by RDJ if ever there needed to be one
They weren’t going to have him go over heath ledger as joker especially cause he died man. He deserved best supporting actor tho
All I'm saying is anyone that hates on Robert Downey Jr. for this role doesn't even kind of understand comedy. What it took for him to step into this role and absolutely murder it is legendary.
Fun fact during this movie production. Jamie Fox literally kidnapped Robert Downey Jr for a month just to prepare him for this part. Jamie told Robert he better say the N word smoothly after this was over. 🤣
I'm a dude, playing a dude, disguised as another dude.
We're lost we're fuckin super lost 😂😂😂😂
Comedy gold
every black person loves this movie it is comedy gold
This might be the last movie we might see in a L O N G T I M E to say what they say and do what they do and it’s a CLASSIC.
Everyone should watch this great movie such a classic
He even did the cast commentary in character lol.
I love these reactions.
This is honestly one of the best acting performances ever done, I don't care what anyone says! Also just a random person on the internet so what do I know
RDJ killed it on that movie, Tom Cruise did really great too, my 2 favorite roles
