- In today's video we discuss another Demon 170 Engine going boom and requiring replacement.
Is it time for a voluntary recall of all these cars to go over everything and make sure the car is put together properly?
Seems the news and latest vins or the last off the line are having the most issues.

The Demon should have been called the Gremlin 170
That would be really diabolical if Dodge put out demon 170s believing that the buyers would seal them up and never drive them and never race them so that they would never find out that these cars had problems early on.
I mean, that would be extraordinarily diabolical.
Dodge cars need an exorcist.
🐾🐾🌹 IS THE PROBLEM FRONT SUMP OIL PAN?????
WHEN YOU ACCELERATE WITH 2G's OIL IS FORCED AWAY FROM
FRONT SUMP OIL PICK UP.!!!!!!!!
THINK ABOUT IT😎👀🐾🐾🌹
What will happen is when you take your demon in because of issues they are going to find someway to say you voided your warranty, don’t put anything past theses people all they want is your money
Driving your Demon 170 voided the warranty.
If pressure builds in the crankcase it causes seals to leak oil. Potentially could be an inadequate PCV system, or excessive blowby. Sorry to hear.
CC can help?
2023 is not the best year to purchase a Dodge SRT car🤷🏻♂️
Company morale in decline knowing the end of their jobs with SRT?
I think it’s important to remember that one of the reasons why the demon 170 took so long to get to market was because when they were testing it, the engines were blowing.
It’s too much power.
I’ve also yet to see a regular HELLEPHANT crate engine, actually working in anything yet.
Now you understand why Bugatti decided to go with a W 16 and four turbo charges to create that kind of RELIABLE power.
Ive seen some hellephants out there. The motors are just too expensive for most. I guess that's why you only see them in modded vehicles that are over $200k.
Whistlindiesel needs a demon 170. He will drive it until the engine explodes.
That's what happens when they let South of the Border build a high performance eng.
I’m pretty sure OC flipped his car to a dealer.
So glad I purchased a new 2022 and not a new 2023. RIP Dodge
Uncle Tony’s Garage had a good video on the D-170, its warranty small print etc.
Anyone who paid a stealership markup on one of these is not financially responsible! 😂 Dodge won’t issue a recall because it’s not a safety issue as of yet.
Remember all the delays with the engines grenading during the engineering and manufacturing of the Demon 170.
I get they paid a lot of money, but honestly what do you expect for a mass produced anything, unless it's built stock you're not getting 100K miles out of it. I follow a lot of Drag and Drive racing and in the class that this car would best fit (with all the proper safety equipment in place) the 9.0-8.50 class, these cars are usually freshened every season and most of them usually do somewhere between 2k to 4K miles overall while doing a mid 8 second pass. Dodge is not Steve Morris Engines, Nelson Race Engines or TKM Performance, they are a mass producer of vehicles for the average consumer, not a racing outfit of specialists building bespoke cars for select customers. Why would I trust them to build an engine that would survive to warranty when the top engine builders I mentioned can, but need custom parts to make it happen? Anything from special blocks to custom cam profiles even rods and pistons, everything is built and bespoke for the needs of the customer, not a mass market. As much as I want to feel sorry for the people that spent $150-200K (or more) for these very impressive cars, I can't because this all sounds like spoiled kids mad their Jesus Christ action figure can't walk on water. I can't feel sorry for them, the same goes for the guys whining about the 149 MPH speed limit, due to the special hardened driveshaft
I honestly dont think they envisioned people racing them and i can see warranty denials in the future.
I’m looking at getting a Camaro
Demon 170’s are all hype - I said it from the beginning. I’m laughing particularly hard at all the garage queens 😂
Dodge had to replace the engine on my 2018 Demon at 500 miles due to a porous engine block.
No way! The Dodge community talks about the 18 Demon like it’s the most Perfect Automobile ever created! How is this possible??? So many Dodge community enthusiasts compare the 170 and how it’s not even in the same zip code as the 18 Demon! But it’s more similar than most want to admit!
TK, Stellantis is failing & seen so many at Copart lately. Heavy tariffs will soon be put on their factories in Mexico as shit poor quality control issues. Ram is also having it's issues as well & stay away from them. Sell it to Carvana as they will buy anything except leases but beware of bad checks they issue as well.
Would be interesting to see if all these cars had parts manufactured at the same time, same location, same manufacturer, etc. Did Dodge get a shipment of bad blocks that were out-of-spec? Did they get a shipment of frames that weren't up to snuff, etc. I think they should help those that have issues, but should also track down where the problems started. Did a supplier mess up, was it a certain Stellantis shift of employees? Are their tools/diagnostic equipment bad? Etc, etc. For example, the frame bonding problem. Did the machine run out of glue and no one noticed? (If so why not). Was it a robotic system that had a bad sensor, etc. Its not going to help Stellantis much if they fix the bad cars, but don't fix the cause and continue to build faulty cars. Sounds like they definitely need a better quality control system/department.
Dyno Queen! Good chance it’s building too much crankcase pressure.
Great video tk
I place full blame on stellantis and the firing of the engineers. Where these rushed to placate the Brother Hood of Power? Did the subsidiaries cut corners on parts?
I believe the 2018 demon is going to be the goat when it is said and done
😎🌻🤔WHAT ABOUT TIRED VALVE SPRING AFTER TIME ...RACING BEATS THE HECK OUTTA SPRING🐵😨
It's the dealer's fault, they ordered these cars under false pretenses.
That's why it is NOT wise to buy ANY vehicle for more than $50k. And THAT'S high
Dodge made 3300 Demon 170's. How many have had engine problems? You have to expect someone issues with 3300 cars.
I dont agree. Those cars are very pricey…u should get a well built car for that $
True, but 3300 cars have not even arrived at the dealer. They are still cars that have been held and have shipped in the past couple days. Beyond that, how many have been driven? How many have been tracked? Very few in both cases. They are sitting waiting to be flipped or in some cases just babied and driven a few miles on the street and never driven hard. In a year, the full extent of the issues will begin to surface. Dodge will deny issues until the end since the end is now. Stellantis is dumping Dodge and the dealerships are going under. There will be no TSB and repair - they don't care - they are moving on with their other car brands.
There are still 17 demon 170 vehicles being sold on Autotrader for over $300k. Some dealership in Knoxville, Tennessee has a used Demon 170 up for $386K. 🤦♂️ Will these dealerships find foolish buyers? There might be a genius or 2 willing to say that they paid triple for a car. 🤪
Why does anyone want a 170 at this juncture?
So what are we up to…30-50 units with bad engines? Still a very small percentage of the over all amount produced. I do get what you’re saying though.
This just laments the fact that Dodge build quality is sub par another motor and the video you did the cracking windshield. Just pay 50 over invoice and its gonna go up in value.
The auctions aren't gonna check at all actually. You'd think they would, but you should see some of the literally unsafe stuff coming through the auction. Stuff that isn't legal to be driven making it through these high dollar auctions.
Making over 1000 hp reliably isn’t an easy task
Then don't bother selling a 1000hp car.......
Nonsense. Tesla PLAID. And cheaper too.
Obviously 😂
Right...I'm shocked they offered these cars with a warrant that is good even if they're raced. Fuel quality is different in different parts of the country and knock sensors can only do so much to prevent detonation. People taking the car and making lap after lap without changing the oil and beating the living snot out of them with NO service...it's no wonder some will blow up.
Especially it’s a dodge.
I tried to tell people that motor was nothing but flash, it's thrown together. I work at a dodge dealership and would buy one if somebody gave me the money.
I was thinking about buying one but iam going old school muscle cars...I can work on them...f. this new shit...2010 till 2024...over it.
I wander if Butter was blessed or cursed with his car
In the saga of Demon 170 ownership, there are two parties, the drivers who own the cars and the broken down cars. These are their stories
There seem to be two types of idiots that buy this car. Those that want to race them, and those that want to collect them. They are completely worthless for either purpose. As far as racing goes, when you race a car, IT IS GOING TO BREAK. Race cars break quite often. That's why I race a 1972 Chevy Nova that I dragged out of a junkyard. Very little is left of the original body. The hood, fenders, bumpers, and trunk lid are fiberglass. There is no interior. It was missing when I bought the car. All it has in it is a seat, roll cage, homemade dash with aftermarket instruments, aftermarket shifter and steering wheel. The front subframe is aftermarket. Even what little was left of the original body had to be patched up with replacement body panels, and a lot of reinforcement was welded in. So while it may look like a Nova, there is almost nothing of the original car left. It can be repaired over and over again. Aftermarket parts are plentiful. I built the engine, transmission, rear end, steering, brakes, and suspension almost completely from aftermarket parts. There are no computer parts on it anywhere. It's basically a hand built car, and it uses 50 year old technology. Yet it runs in the mid tens. And cost maybe 1/3 of what a Demon 170 cost OTD, assuming you got one for MSRP.
As for the collectors, these cars are not collectable, for the same reason they are not raceable. They are 100% dependent on Stellantis. They are super complicated, have more computer parts than car parts, and run on software. Unlike older cars, Stellantis is the ONLY source for parts, and they are the ONLY ones who know how to work on them. How long do you think they are going to keep making parts for them? probably not past the warranty period. They have no reason to. Modern cars are disposable, whether it's a Tesla or a Demon 170. Without the factory parts, technology, and software, they become large paperweights when something goes wrong. I can get any part I want for my 1970 Challenger. From lots of different sources. And I can (and do) work on it myself. Unless it gets totally destroyed it is immortal. That is not the case with these new cars. They have a very limited lifespan. The aftermarket is not going to be making parts for them. Stellantis just fired the engineers that designed them. And it looks like Stellantis itself will not be around much longer. Getting parts for a Yugo will be easier than for one of these things.
I also did some research on the warranty. It says that Stellantis "may not" cover damage caused by racing. My guess is after the first several engines get blown up on the track, they won't be replacing any more under warranty. RacerX is likely getting his engine replaced because he is a well known RUclipsr. But I seriously doubt they will do it again. The warranty says they don't have to if the car is being raced. And my understanding is that he intends to continue racing it. If he has any sense at all, he will cut his losses and sell that thing as soon as it is fixed. Does he think this is some kind of magic car that can be raced forever without breaking? It almost sounds that way.
I also did some research on the engine. It uses a front sump oil pan, same as pretty much every other car ever made. It has baffles in it. A perfectly good design for a fast street car. But this is an 8 second car, with a trans brake. It does mid 120 60-foots. With that kind of G forces, the oil is not going to run forward into the sump on launch, and the engine is going to be starved for oil. Since this is basically a street engine in a street car, I don't see much of a way to design a lubrication system that will work well under those conditions. You would need some kind of pressurized oil supply that could pump oil to the engine no matter conditions it might be under. If this were a 10 second car without a trans brake, that problem probably wouldn't exist.
Stellantis might just decide to exit the US auto business overnight.
Another p.o s 170😮😂
Sell your Demon170 now before it’s too late. Dodge and Tim Kuniskis screwed The Last Call buyers.
There just gonna close the doors , no one will ever hear from them again , then what ?
These bubble queens are screwed if they don’t break the seal & drive them.
Its going to be amazing how much money is lost due to the highly fictitious markups and vehicles are only worth msrp and lower and no one will finance them😂
With the oil leaks it's a problem on most modern vehicles using those fvcking silicone gaskets. Ots all peopel bitch about in the jeep forums. Ive done a bead of sealant arounf any gasket i replace. Havent had an issue since.
Just seeing this, and Sharing to get the Word Out 👍 Fuckin Shame.
3300 is not a big production number they just dropped the ball and rushed the engines into production
This Demon 170 is CURSED 🔥👿
Bad juju because of the way they did their Customers and Veterans a disservice !!!
Besides poor QC I believe the R&D was not great.👍
Why isn’t dodge recalling all the 170’s and fix them?
Don't get it twisted used to be a saying not a warning about your $200,000 car
5:13 I see this mole hill growing. I'm not bashing Chrysler either I have a track ready 21' R/T Challenger and VERY happy with it. After 15k miles the motor is broke in and very happy. I change the oil every 5,000 miles, because I want to keep it that way. I have flashbacks of 70's malaise era and horrible quality control.
I have a 21 daytona low miles and it's been GREAT. 5th Mopar 3rd charger and after this one I'm done with dodge.
That's a dealer service car only. You're not gonna work on it. Too complicated. And what's gonna happen five years from now. When Chrysler no longer services it. And has no more parts available for it. A big giant paper weight is what you're gonna have. Watch uncle tony's garage. Because he's gonna tell you what I just told ya.
2018 Demon is a way better car in quality these 2023 cars are built like horsecrap for a quick buck
its not a 426 and never will be
Let's all buy more crappola garbage from the big 3 !
you mean the little 3...the big 3 are VW, Toyota, and Hyundai worldwide...💯🤔
dont u guys get these are RT and SCATS with upgrades narrow bodys lol you have to dumb down your audience tho basicly a hellephant 2.0 is 1200 hp stock thats the real mopar flag-ship crate
2023 dodge models are a flop. Demom149 is just hilarious, fastest/quickest production car my a**
Maybe they shouldn’t build engines in a third world country or put them together in Canada?
Well just look up the word dodge in the dictionary 😂😂😂😂
I would not take a demon if it was free I much rather invest in a chevy zr1 corvette or a ferrari for that kinda money they want for these POS demons.
I had a 23 c8 for three months last year. I sold it because of all the problems I had: runs in the paint, squeaky front seat that the dealer said was normal, mis-aligned body panels and a dash that needed to be replaced. Hope you have a better experience than me.
It would be better to not drive it, there may be a fix in six months that can be retrofitted without needing a new engine. Original ones are becoming more rare by the day.
Dodge does it again.
They made 3,000 of them, a few having issues isn’t a big deal.
It’s a big deal. Building a mass produced Drag car isn’t very smart.
Id be willing to bet alot of it is rushed production because of greed up top t.k. I work on an auto production line its gotten to the point where you are jogging for 8 hrs. The processes are overloaded, they can't keep anyone who actually knows wtf they are doing and alot of the suits in the upper positions have absolutely no qualifications to be in the positions they are in t.k. I had to train my bosses boss a few weeks ago on how to do jobs on the line THEY are supposed to be running and they failed miserably. The Japanese have kinda backed off and everything has gone to downhill. Id be willing to bet alot of car companies are like this, typically where they place these facilities it'll be one of the highest paying jobs anywhere around and it'll be a 60 yr old lady or 18 yr old teenager and alot of times stuff gets overlooked because these aren't actual car people t.k I've seen it happen way more than it ever should like wait hold up, wtf are we doing right now.
Another one bites the dust. I almost bought one. Whew. 🫥
