+Doug Wickham At first I thought it was pre-1980 as well. You should have seen the smile on my face when I first found this video! Anyway, thank you for posting!
Not to rain on the parade but, this is from right around the time we couldn't get state funding for shit on this whole half of the state for another 25 years. The state of Missouri dumped SO much money into making Saint Louis relevant that, every other decent sized city in Missouri suffered for decades. We didn't even see much funding for updates until 2004 or so. Bruce R Watkins aka 71 highway aka I-49 started all of it. Us getting all of our fountains fixed for the world series sure sparked an upswing too.
This is great. They actually showed kc north. Too bad new vids cant show the northland... its still kc.. new ones always wanna show overland park...which isnt even kansas city.
Now half of California lives here or is moving here... funny how things changed in a year since the last comment. And no, this wasn't meant to be a smartass comment. The influx of mass amounts of Californians readout has been in the last year of 2021 and now all of 2022
KC area is still a great place, just not any where in the city run by the people who are waiting for the reparation checks. The airport is gone, the Country Club Plaza is too dangerous - just avoid the city itself
@@shakazulu365 You do know that kansas city is split down the middle and half of it is in kansas and the other half is in missouri....you know this right?
@@gregg9840 depends on the life you want. You want to live in JOCO? My 35 years has taught me to be ready to spend a lot of your time DRIVING &/or looking for PARKING! Even going to the grocery story for milk or bread is a got damn journey. Some of us even have children we are bringing from JOCO into downtown KCMO to live. My generation is over driving involved to live in the burbs. I got back 2hrs of my day by working from home, and rather than spend 2hrs every weekend caring for a yard i hardly ever even have time to use, we go to the park and play, then get ice cream, and go back to our cozy little apartment that is always easy to keep clean and relax. Maybe she’ll read a book and i’ll work on a private development project a bit, but we have WAY MORE TIME to just live and be happy together. *edit* thought I would add, we chose a small 850sq/ft apt for two because the building is so large and offers private walking & outdoor use space on the rooftop, along with designated amenity rooms like the event/club room, movie theatre, gym, dance/yoga studio, lounge, dog park, dry sauna room, and more. It makes it easier to swallow only having to manage 850sq ft when the rest of your mansion responsibilities you’re used to doing yourself in JOCO are covered for you. I’ve sacrificed nothing, and gained everything leaving JOCO.
Before I was born. 1985 KU med.
Does anybody remember the "Spirit Festival?" It only lasted a couple of years, right in the middle of the '80s.
oh my how things have changed
My city - love it!
If this is in 1982 i was a baby.
TWA's Lockheed L-1011 Tristar and Boeing 707....sweet!
Love my hometown
This is great !
I love this video! Great to see memories
I say 1982.
Jerry Martin played RF for the Royals in 1982.
I saw him.
Judging from the cars, buildings, clothes, and views, I'd say this was in 1982-83.
They used to show this on channel 2! I was born in 85, but I sure do remember seeing it.
there is no channel 2 in KC, except the KCMO public access channel
@@nomadcowatbk LOL what you said is literally a contradiction. Of COURSE it was on the public access channel. What are you, like 12? 🤣🤣🤣🤣
@@nomadcowatbk LOL yeah that's a stupid comment 😂😂
3:40 look at that blue sky above the plaza where all the rich people apartments are supposed to be
thank you
Saks 5th Avenue opened on the plaza in 1982.
Great video!!! Love it!
I agree with you on that it is a video.
This is after 1980. The footage of Bannister Mall (which opened in 1980) was a dead giveaway.
Thanks! Wasn't quite sure when I posted it, but others had told me it was the 70s

Why is that?
Would you or anyone else know whether this was before or after the July 17, 1981 Hyatt Regency disaster?
I've corrected the title to 1980's. if anyone has any further information as to the actual date, I'll edit the title again
I can only what my city was like back this time
I can only too!

1:38 you don't see barges in KC anymore!
They are there
Strange I saw 2 yesterday
port of kc is defunct. they still run up and down the river to other cities.
Mostly dredging barges. They dock up by Ameristar
Does anyone know the song at the end?
The song is Kansas City by Wilbert Harrison
This is great. They actually showed kc north. Too bad new vids cant show the northland... its still kc.. new ones always wanna show overland park...which isnt even kansas city.
Cambio muchísimo
Who in the hell was this even made for?
Probably the Chamber of Commerce
It was made to attract people who were not from here, who also never came.

:21 hmm that place looks familiar WAIT I think I took my senior pictures on that bridge at that park
Loose Park !
Look at all the trolls. Where you from ? Oakland ? Cleveland ?
Wym
Probably St Louis... back then it was far larger than KC, now.... it's so much smaller. "But they have an arch!" lmao

Thekukills it was when it was TWA headquarters
Lol, well it should be since we are so central
Yes and all of those airlines would go on to endure long into the 21st century! LMAO.
LindsAy with Attitude it would’ve been if not for St. Louis building its airport a few years after ours.
They mean the most dull looking airport of all time
#89 Henry Marshall...???
that was Otis Taylor's number forever....blasphemer.
показали бы как живут окраины канзаса....
Meanwhile somewhere else in kansas, while this film was being made a small town was being obliterated by a tornado!
this isn't kansas it;'s MISSOURI. Kansas City is in Missouri.

Let's hope so.
@@Phoenixesper1 That's why I believe that "Oz" is Kansas City, based upon prevailing winds.
@@Phoenixesper1 Geographically, yes. But the actual "city" is on the Missouri side, while KCK is a suburb.
Why y’all so interested in the 80s and 90s lol it’s the same as today all we had was bad camera quality and no social media
For people like who wanted to see what KC was like back in the day
its a dump now
Maybe where you live
LindsAy with Attitude Johnson County is where everyone is now
