    All of our friends live down in Westport around that time.
    We did a lot of videotaping, including a few music videos for some local bands.
    Wouldn’t be surprised if we somehow knew each other?

    As somebody who grew in KC nowadays I thank you for posting this because I’ve always wanted to see what it was like back then. Kc was so much cooler of a place in the 80s/90s. Just a way cooler time tbh

      It was even cooler before I got there. I just saw the tail end of Westport's glory days in the 90's with the eclectic music and clothing stores. But malls were definitely cooler before the 90's. 1975 to 1985 was a great time to be a kid

    Love it, man. You are a filmmaker, and were back then. Looks like you used a skateboard for some dolly shots at Liberty Memorial. Ah, and there's even some stop-motion in there! That was great. This reminds me of stuff I was working on or filming in my late 20s, but instead of on tape I had it in a random folder on a Macbook, in Film > Projects > Untitled Project 2

      We went out to shoot the "gritty city" and make a documentary for a high school class, but eventually abandoned it. It was all over the place and we didn't have a perspective. It was rare when I went downtown and explored. Eventually I found a cool store in Westport that had crazy t-shirts and records you couldn't find in Overland Park. But soon after I went to college in Lawrence and found what I needed there. I wish I would have experienced downtown KC more before it began changing in the late 90's. Westport was way more artsy. Lots of wasted opportunity to video document the "old world" because I was afraid to leave my house.

    Got me wondering what it would have been like to be in my late 20s in 1999. But I wasn't in my late 20s until 2015.

      I moved to Los Angeles in 97. Same things were happening there. I just saw the tail end of it before rents began rising and demolition of a lot of the historical buildings. Los Angeles was one way for like 40 years and then quickly began changing after 2000. It's sad to witness it but every generation seems to have a similar experience to some extent. Feels like the changes happening now are on steroids though.

    Wow now that Hereford house and Midwest hotel is going to be the city club apartments

      I wonder what happened to the hereford bust?

    • @iknowdeweybrudda6564
      @iknowdeweybrudda6564 6 лет назад +3

      Andrew Patrick Ralston that was a really big deal. The original Hereford house burned down. It was one of the biggest fires in Kansas City history. It was an arson. They weren’t convicted until 2015.

      Andrew Patrick Ralston I think that’s what caused the hotel to close too but I’m not sure

      Bye bye old KC:( Overland Park was becoming unrecognizable when I visited last December.

      Andrew Patrick Ralston what has become unrecognizable is city center Lenexa. They built an entire downtown out of a field. www.google.com/amp/amp.kansascity.com/news/business/article217273380.html

    Wow, look at the people rallying to stop Israeli harm on Palestine over 30 years ago. Crazy how it is relevant today too.

      Born in 73. My favorite time period was 77 to 1985. But yeah the 90's was pretty great. Everything seemed to go downhill after 2000 (no offense).
