I was born in Kansas City in 1986 and lived there for the first 34 years of my life. I live in Los Angeles now, and this is so great to see. It will be even more rich as time goes by.
kinda hard for me to watch. Was looking to see if I was seen with my best friend who I would skip school with just to go to the plaza... She has passed... but this brings memories.
Now this is what I call REAL footage of the 80s! Made by an actual individual. Rather than directors and movie filmers. I have tons of old home movies on my channel!
Back in the days when my Kansas-based family would get together for an evening in KC, to avoid driving to visit family in the ice and snow around Christmas!
Good footage from the good old days. I do believe I saw Antioch Park. It was my favourite when I was a wee boy in the 70's. Are these two films available to watch on the interenet?
Why does he have in his hand a touch screen phonein his hand in 1987 at time 0:35 of the video? i was born in 1989 i do remember no cell phones until the around late 90's.
Holy shit..I live here and it still isn’t that much fun. I can’t imagine what I would’ve done back then. 3 maybe 4 people out at a time walking around yet they have all these huge buildings. The only time it looked busy back then was when ppl went to work or came home from work in traffic😂 what was it like was it safe back then or dangerous and gritty in the city? It’s like they wanted a clean rich and small NYC and just failed💀 sorry KC still love ya and you are my home lolll
@@Beerning I think it was loose park. I have a memory of walking across them as a child back in the late 80’s. They revamped the loose park area right around that time and took them out. Like I said I think it’s loose park. I could be wrong.
The worst shit whole I've ever known in my intire life! I lived there then!! Everyone I known from there has never left! Or died there!!! Yuh ask people! Hey whatcha fo for fun here! They all say drive to Colorado!!!
I lived there, too. There were tons of things to do. Lots of shopping---the Plaza, Crown Center, Seville Square, Antioch, Bannister Mall. Countless restaurants. There was Worlds of Fun and Oceans of Fun theme parks. The KC Zoo. There were the Chiefs and Royals games. There were lots of live events--concerts and shows at Kemper Arena and Starlite theater. Great dinner theater at Waldo Astoria and Tiffany's Attic. The always frantic night life of the bars, pubs, and clubs of West Port.
It’s surreal to me to be a KC resident and watch these. Like I’ve stood there
I grew up in Kansas City I was 18 in 1986

How did he have a cell phone with a camera at that time in the beginning of the video 🤨
Born and raised In KC. I Was A Teen In The 80s. Good Times!
I think we have some evidence of time travelers in this video ! Great job !
This video is time travel
A camera is a time machine. If only people knew
Mans walking around with an cell phone
It’s so weird to see the Nelson-Atkins without the shuttlecocks.
I hate the shuttlecocks.
KC born and raised! Nice to see the “80’s Kansas City”.
Is that fountain on ward parkway still there, I feel like I drive past that spot everyday and don't see a fountain there. Wild.

@@iknowdeweybrudda6564 Blue cities usually are
Loved the video! Especially the RX-7! I had a black 1983 RX that looked almost exactly like the one in the video at the time.
I also had an RX-7 LOL. Mine was the same color but a newer model.
A 1987 model bought in 1990.
I miss that car!
I wish i was in the video and i could tell 17 year old me you are ok
Life long kay cee kay ess since '59 - thanks for posting this
Wow what an awesome time trip! Thanks for the video!

Causally going around Meyers’s circle like that wouldn’t work unless it’s 5am or midnight
Damn I wish I was alive during this time to see how my city looked backed then
Not much of a change. I saw a couple of the buildings I worked in when I worked in downtown. The RX-7: quintessential 1980s affordable cool.
There are so many wonderful moments in this and my family is also asking to know: Why is the guy always running?
What was that guy doing in the beginning climbing on stuff?
Climbing on stuff.
Aaaahhhh my hometown
Can I use this video in my video?
Cool footage!
Barney allis plaza i spent alot of time there
God what i would do to live in the 80s

It's like he knew the future because I did feel like they were acting a little bit
Are we allowed to use it?
Does any one notice the guy in white seems to have a cell phone?!! Like wow!!
Cell phones existed at this time. Only you almost had to have a brief case to carry it in.
So what year was the skywalk collapse at the Weston crown center?
1981
Hyatt Regency
Are we not men ?
but idk if it was a diferent building in the 80s
The plaza is stupid now
tryna catch the wifi signal
Trench coat dude was Goth before Goth was Goth. I think I remember seeing homie in The Breakfast Club
New Wave was goth before goth.
Wish I lived in the 80s

It was a little safer back then, not as much stupid gun activity as it has become today.
People are so stupid using guns like they do.
Lmao
No shuttlecocks
I hate the shuttlecocks.
the tallest building in kansas city is also the tallest building in Missouri
And in kansas !!.

Antioch Park on the Kansas side
This was around the time of the times beach toxic
The Plaza was so much better then...
What made it better? Less traffic? Really bad traffic is the only reason why I don't like going to the plaza.
@@tjwindsor9638 More specialized shops. Almost everything now is a big box/chain....including the restaurants.
