Been to KC at leat 100 times. You are pretty spot on here, especially your last point. It isn't just a sleepy City in the Midwest. It has tons of culture and great experiences to offer. I describe it as a small town feel and friendly people with all of the convenience and culture of a a big city. Well done Sir...
I'm a KCMO native who currently lives in Dallas, TX. This is a great video of my hometown. I'm going to share this video with people who ask me about things to do when they visit KC. Living & visiting other cities really makes you appreciate just how clean the city is & how friendly the residents are. One thing I never noticed until I lived somewhere else is that 9 times out of 10 parking is free in a lot of the touristy areas. Last time I was home I told my parents......this is weird, there's no parking meters lining the streets! LOL I was looking for the pay box in parking lots. Rarely do you get free parking in Dallas. The only thing I don't miss about KC is the winter! I don't even own a shovel down here in Dallas that's the one thing I love about living here lol. GO CHIEFS!!!
@J handle good question. I just saw a guy do this the other day. I so wanted to pull in front of him while he was sitting at the light, but someone was in front of me lol. He had like a car & a half space in front of him.
Enjoy your traffic jams. We don't have them. Dig your way out of that. Oh ask your parents how much snow fell in the last 10 years. Hardly anything. Not like the 60s when we had 2 foot snow falls every other month.
This town will explode! And don't hate me for saying this but even if we don't win this year, I'm just really glad we got to the Super Bowl (again). This is just the 1st of many Super Bowls to come for Andy Reid's Chiefs. Can anyone say "dynasty"?
My wife and I visit KC about 2 to 3 times a year for almost 20 years now. One of those visits is for the annual auto show at Bartle Hall in March that can rival any car show in the country.
Joshua Bennett welcome to KC watch for World of Wheels... I believe that’s the one he’s talking about. It’s insane. Takes up the entire Bartle Hall convention center.
and on years with a good budget they all stay running. The fountains are even more important in the lower income regions of the city, as they are often used as alternative public pools for kids as “splash pads.” You could spend an entire week driving around kc to look at all the various fountains we have - and that’s just in KCMO.
Lol we're the sister city to Seville Spain. The clock tower on the country club plaza is a 2/3rd scale replica of the tower on Seville's city center square.
Kansas City native here: thanks for a great review! We are well traveled and still love to come home. Out of all the world cities we have visited, we truly adore KC and agree with every point you make. Come see us, everybody! Find out for yourself what the heartland is really all about.
Kansas Citian here giving my stamp of approval! Fun fact: The buses are now completely free although still very slow. Edit: Only some bus lines as Troy pointed out, but eventually all of them. And all the haters in these comments will still have to pay for them until they vote to change it. 😆
KC native here and I love this! Just want to add for anyone who’s reading the comments who and planning a visit that there is SO much to do with kids too! LEGO land, the zoo, an aquarium, kaleidoscope, science city, worlds of fun and so much more! There’s something in Kansas City for everyone!
As someone that lived near KC for a few years, this is 100% spot on. When we come home from Italy in a few years, we want to come back to Missouri, the people, the food, the outdoor sports... it is a little slice of heaven.
I was born and raised in KC and lived 40 of my 55 years there. Watching this made me homesick. I now reside in east Tennessee and love it here, but I sure miss me some real BBQ and fellow Chiefs fans. The local Titans fans, although good sports and genuinely good people, are sick of me yelling "Go Chiefs" on a frequent basis. I have encouraged many Tennessians to visit KC with several doing so. They have all returned with great stories. They have all said that they would visit again and the common theme is that they had no idea how great of a city it was and have always thought it was a cow town in Kansas sitting on the banks of a muddy river. They had the river part right, but were definitely surprised how metropolitan it was. Please visit my home and eat some Joe's.
@@justicebenskin3355 It is little by comparison once you live in a larger city---but that just makes KC 'just the right size' and 'better' in a lot of ways. KC was my hometown--I've been in Houston for the last 26 yrs. I'd move back if it weren't for state income taxes and brutal winters.
I've lived in KC for a little over a decade. All of this is pretty accurate. I also suggest visiting the museum of toys and miniatures. Such an interesting, lesser known museum!
Don't forget a couple lesser known activities. Swope Park is huge, has a zoo and has Starlight Theater, a delightful open air theatre showing Broadway shows in the summer. City Hall is 30 stories of art deco architecture with an observation deck around one of the upper floors. If you are driving during daylight hours,* get around by the Parkways and Boulevards, even If it is farther. In KCMO, those designations actually mean something - the awesome Parks department actually landscapes and maintains them, unlike streets or avenues, which are under the Transportation department. But Southwest Boulevard is an exception - it is not under the Parks department. It is not as pretty as other boulevards, but it has some authentic Mexican restaurants, which could be a nice break from barbeque. *In hours of darkness, just get where ever you are going as fast and efficiently as possible.
Spot on. I used to always take my out of town visitors to City Hall. Gives good perspective of why KC was built where it was and great artwork in lobby as well as classic '30s architecture.
William Buckman Literally me everytime someone says they aren’t from here and from a much better state than missouri😭 So many people from California move down here and I don’t see how they do it
This is my beautiful city! I'm so glad you visited us! I'm a historian/museum professional, so yes I'm biased, but I really think we're one of the best museum cities around. I hope you got to the Arabia Steamboat Museum. Yes, our airport is sad, but on the flip side, once it is renovated I will miss getting off a plane and being in my car driving away in less than 5 minutes.
@@BryonLetterman me too! I wish they would leave it as is. I'll gladly trade not having many dining options for no sprints across multiple terminals to catch a plane and for really, really close parking. And the TSA people there are nice!

Kansas Citian here! Thanks for the lovely report of our city. I just want mention if any KC visitors want to escape the city for a day, there are quite a few historic/quaint/charming cities north of Kansas City that are great for day trips like St. Joseph, Weston, Parkville in MO and Leavenworth and Atchison in Kansas. There are many smaller but great museums in these towns. There are also quite a few wineries and distilleries up there and along the way. And although Union Station and the Nelson are free, both take donations if any visitor is so inclined (I personally recommend donating to the very hard-working volunteers that operate the model train exhibition at Union Station). I hope you enjoy our city, current and future visitors!
Dude I’ve grew up here . Left at 22 and came back at 26. This stuff you’re talking about is so rewarding and makes me thankful to be back in KCMO and call myself a KC native. I love it. My friends love it from out of town. Makes me so appreciative to be back. Go Chiefs!! 😂

Kansas City born and raised. I take pride in this city and everything that it is. I spent a lot of time during my teenage years with my best friend just picking random districts and walking around all day talking. We would always switch it up. 1 day we would be in Westport, park the truck in the Uptown Theater parking lot and walk the streets for hours. The next day we would be in the West bottoms, exploring all the old shops that you don’t really hear about unless you find them yourself. The list goes on and on with places like The Plaza, Power & Light, Crossroads, etc! I have a lot of great memories in this city. One thing left out of this video is the music scene! Find a show to go to! There are a lot of great local bands here. I grew up in this music scene, playing gigs, attending gigs, promoting gigs, all of it. The local scene is a VERY wholesome community of musicians and fans. I highly recommend checking out a show! If you are looking for some new jams, check out my band on all music streaming platforms ❤️ also, GO CHIEFS!!!!! ❤️ 💛
My hubby and I lived in Independence for 2 months in 2010. We wanted to live there longer but had unforeseen circumstances we moved back to our old state. You are right about how friendly the people are. At the time my hubby was at his job for a month there and we didn't have any where to go for thanksgiving. His boss was having a huge thanksgiving at her house and invited us to it! everything was amazing! We are looking to back there this year.
I am a proud nurse in downtown KCMO!!! I am so happy to see the great publicity my city is getting! This week especially! I love my city and we are a great group of people! Come see us and experience our hospitality
Lived in KC my whole life, and I have to say, you nailed this video! Thank you so much for pointing out so many great reasons to visit. I think a lot of people don't realize that it is a true metropolitan area. One other thing I would mention is that there is a TON of free parking almost every part of town. Even quite a bit near downtown. So if people do drive themselves, or rent a car, you don't need a ton of change. Also, a great place to drink beer, with numerous breweries. Good job, man!
I'm really impressed by how well you learned the city while you were here. If I had to make a list like this I probably would have made the exact same list, and I've lived here my entire life.
If you ever get to make a part 2 for kc, you gotta cover Crown Center, Power and Light, River Market, and Westport. You make my city sound fabulous, thank you!
You mean the movie theater between noodles an company and Starbucks ?! No don't tell me it's closed I watched a lot of movies with my ex there I loved that nice quiet lil theater
@@K.B.Williams That's not true. It was never closed down for "hood" whatever. A new developer bought the plaza years ago, and have been making it more commercial. Just last spring they closed it and sold the space to Nordstroms. gtfo.

I moved to KC from Saint Louis twelve years ago, and the first two things I noticed were that the traffic is the easiest in the country and that the people are SO. NICE. Discovering the Nelson, the Plaza, the zoo, Starlight, the awesome story of Union Station, the WWI museum (!!!), the farmer's market, all just wonderful. And a little further out, you get things like the arboretum, Powell Gardens, Weston, the Speedway, Sporting Park...
KC resident here, and you did really good on your review!! One more for you: don’t skip on seeing the downtown branch of the Kansas City Public Library either! It’s famous for the book scrim that covers the parking garage, but the library itself is in a historic bank building, and it has a historic vault area, a magical children’s area, a beautiful lobby on the first floor, and a terrace on the fifth floor that faces south and west and is usually open to the public. It’s a gorgeous place and well worth the visit.

As a native southern Californian, which pains me to say now, but I have lived in KC for 9 years now, definitely do not write this city off. It has so much to offer, and so much history here. My family in California still think that I live in "Wizard of Oz" Kansas. They probably think I live in rural Kansas with a farm, and a scarecrow, etc.. lol. I think KC is a well kept secret. While most people are content calling us a "fly over" state, I am happy to be here. BTW, my favorite BBQ is Joe's KC for the Z man, and Jack Stack for burnt ends! mmm mmm good. cya

As a Kansas City native,it is refreshing to see a great review of our city. I think he covers the "do nots" pretty good 👍😁
Lived in KC for 30 years...u gave its do....nice to see stuff in the film..on Colorado for now but heading back...made me homesick watching this
The people in KC are super friendly, that’s spot on (as well as this entire video) but the people are the freaking best. I love Kansas City
I thought it was always really wierd... I would travel and smile at people just to be nice and like NO ONE would smile at me!!! I felt like maybe im just that ugly lol

@@KimKim-np3dr idk its just wierd. And its litterally just a friendly smile! Like its ridiculous! Idk maybe
funny i lived there for 2 years an i thought the opposite, maybe you have to be rich to find all the friendly people
People are nice till you get to know them in KC.
Thank you so much for respecting Kansas City. I love how spot on this video is, a lot of people have the wrong idea about Kansas City.
As a native I'm always happy to hear people say that we're nice. Go chiefs!
Same!!!
No way, I am also a KCMO native living in Dallas. Small world!
I have a question :
Why do many Dallas drivers stopped at stop lights stop so far behind the stop line?
@J handle good question. I just saw a guy do this the other day. I so wanted to pull in front of him while he was sitting at the light, but someone was in front of me lol. He had like a car & a half space in front of him.
The Chiefs suck
Enjoy your traffic jams. We don't have them. Dig your way out of that.
Oh ask your parents how much snow fell in the last 10 years. Hardly anything.
Not like the 60s when we had 2 foot snow falls every other month.
I'm not from Kansas City, but I live pretty close. One of my favorite places that I went to was the steamboat Arabia museum.
Forgot about that. Do they still have the Farmers Market downtown? I heard it is history.
@@troyadamson8618 Yes. In fact, that area is where the Steamboat Arabia museum is.
@@clinttaylor6018 I haven't been down there in forever.
They're moving the Steamboat Arabia to Jeff City, I beleive, in a few years.

Randall C hey I just moved here last year, didn’t know that’s in March! Gonna have a fun birthday month it sounds like :)
Joshua Bennett welcome to KC watch for World of Wheels... I believe that’s the one he’s talking about. It’s insane. Takes up the entire Bartle Hall convention center.
Come visit us for Boulevardia sometime!!!
You should check out the car show in Ottawa ks. In September.
I am from KC and one fact I wish he would have explained that KC is the City of Fountains. We have more fountains than Rome.
I was looking for someone to have made this comment.
Wow fountains 😳
and on years with a good budget they all stay running. The fountains are even more important in the lower income regions of the city, as they are often used as alternative public pools for kids as “splash pads.” You could spend an entire week driving around kc to look at all the various fountains we have - and that’s just in KCMO.
Not true. More fountains than any city *west of rome*
Kansas City non native here. Heard it sucked. Especially Gladstone.
Kansas Citian here giving my stamp of approval! Fun fact: The buses are now completely free although still very slow.
Edit: Only some bus lines as Troy pointed out, but eventually all of them. And all the haters in these comments will still have to pay for them until they vote to change it. 😆
Not till this summer
@@TheNTMG My employer pays for any bus trips already, just have to swipe my ID when I get on the bus, so it's already free for me, I guess!

That's cool.
I would add that there are some great art festivals throughout the warm months.
"Hey, your new quarterback is pretty good."

I was born, raised, and live in KC, I don't know why this was recommended to me, but here I am 🤷🏼♀️
As someone who was raised here but moved to Chicago 24 years ago, it is still striking how friendly the people in KC are every time I come home.
I’m a KC native that moved to NYC two years ago, safe to say I do miss this humble little city!
Little.....?
@@justicebenskin3355 It is little by comparison once you live in a larger city---but that just makes KC 'just the right size' and 'better' in a lot of ways. KC was my hometown--I've been in Houston for the last 26 yrs. I'd move back if it weren't for state income taxes and brutal winters.
Long lines at a BBQ restaurant just means the food is going to be excellent.
So true
I have waited an hour and a half for a Zman after a round of disc golf.

I've lived in KC for a little over a decade. All of this is pretty accurate. I also suggest visiting the museum of toys and miniatures. Such an interesting, lesser known museum!
Never realized Kansas City seemed like such a cool city
@Club Soda Unless you're Patrick Mahomes. He is allowed to commit this particular fau paux.
It is freaking amazing!
People here will kill u for sneezing wrong...js
Yes I live there
It’s not
Don't forget a couple lesser known activities.
In summer Loose Park has an amazing rose garden. Powel Gardens (botanical gardens) is a drive, but absolutely gorgeous.
@Caligula6 Shoshon It's so tranquil & serene. It's my recharge station. 🥰
I wouldn't tell tourists to go to dope park for anything but the zoo.
