We moved from Hawaii to KCMO in 2021 and there are soooo many ways we love it here way more than back home and I agree with all the positives in the video. Some negatives we didn’t expect tho are…. -All the trash on the highways/freeways (not just roadkill) -Malls here suck. Lots of awesome small biz places so maybe that’s why the malls are not so great. -Need more Asian restaurants! Not just fusions! There are a few good ones BUT there are not enough options. We noticed the good Korean bbq and Japanese sushi or ramen places here are pretty pricey but they can do that because there isn’t too much competition for them here.
Wow! KC from Hawaii! What island did you move from? I imaging the trash is definitely worse. Although, I noticed it was even an issue when we visited Oahu a few years ago. Yeah, with the exception of Oak Park I would say that KC malls are subpar at best. What’s your favorite Asian restaurant in KC?? Thanks for the comment!
They killed all the malls here. the internet did mostly. The Trash sucks and we need to organize more highway cleanups. there so much highway and roads here, hard to keep them all clean with the limited tax dollars.
The trash will magically disappear when the world cup event gets closer. 😅 Never understood the chucking trash out the window, or off the back of the truck mentality. But then I wasn't raised that way. Especially when camping or backpacking. If you brought it in, you took it out. Senseless. 🤷♂️
KC 'water' bill is a combined package including water. Included is at least water, sewer, and trash. I live in a different city where my water bill is only $30 on average. However, if I add my trash service and sewer bills, it's around $100. Not quite the average you mentioned, but there's only two of us in a small house and we have HE appliances. Our sewer cost is based on water usage, so if we use more water, we pay more for both water and sewer.
@@nathansmith4423 And the trash is different depending on which part of KC you are in. Some areas have competition and some areas are like you indicated part of local taxes.
I lived in KC for the first 30 years of my life, then moved to San Diego for law school in 1990. My goal is to live half the time in SD, and half the time in KC. While the issues you mention (like humidity) can be a drag, there is a 'sanity' about the people in KC ... along with the hospitality and the amount of land that makes KC such a great place to balance the wildness of San Diego.
I left SoCal for KS, Plains states people are friendly, humble, down to earth, love it here, save so much in some of these states you can go to SD for a few weeks in the summer and warm places in the winter.
@deniseharrison8577 you should visit while we have extreme humidity, cold or both to see if it’s for you. I don’t think it’s that bad personally, but then again, I’ve never lived in California 🤷🏼♂️
If you are moving here to KC, something you should know that no one tells you, is that in some areas (I'm not sure how wide spread it is) the dirt has a very high clay content. Why does this matter? If you buy a home, you should know that the ground swells and shrinks A LOT. Nearly all of the homes in my area have to have piers installed to keep the foundation from sinking and breaking. This is extremely expensive. All drive ways and sidewalks eventually have to be replaced and or mud jacked. Also, working in the yard is awful because the dirt is either literally hard as concrete or very sticky. I have yard only shoes that I have to use a wire brush to get the mud off. I never understood how bricks could be made from clay until I moved here. I had a small clump of dirt soaking in a bucket of water for maybe 10 minutes and still couldn't break it up with my hands. I will never again buy a house where there is clay and plan to move largely because of it.
i just moved near tmobile in kc from columbia. only bad thing i think is the roads. there are somehow worse traffic and homeless in columbia than here in kc.
moved here from New York at 23 and yeah, making friends is so hard here. The 20’s culture is so different here, like what do you mean it’s not normal to just show up at your door to hang out??
Kansas City has a BACKWARD social culture that is one of the worst of any larger metro area anywhere in the country. It has a lot to do with the fact that things are ridiculously spread out and the denser portion of Downtown is mostly dead all of the time. Then you throw in the fact that people settle down or get married at younger than average ages in Flyover County, making it a TERRIBLE place for single people that are between 20-40 years old. There's most of your answers!
@@PlatinumHustle Nope, it is a garbage town with a backward social culture that is horrible for single people. It is a place where you save and invest money to move somewhere FAR BETTER. Glad I left in 2008 along with most people I know that lived there.
I have worked for both FedEx and UPS in Kansas City in Westport plaza brookside South Kansas City all over and I have seen a plethora of the homeless that occupy those areas that entire time! I'm talking literally well over 12 years consistently doing the same thing with no intention of changing their situation!
You are delusional if you think there is no way to change your life in 12 years especially since it's been proven that some of the people that are down there doing this pay for homes and have a completely separate other life! They probably don't spend all the money on booze and drugs
Good job on the video but there is no St Louis Illinois. It's East St Louis and its a dump. Nobody confuses the two like KCK and KCMO. Also we are divided by a river and not a road.
I moved here 7 years ago from the northeast US and it's better overall... friendlier people more jobs, cost of living is much cheaper...and of course the price of housing is waaaay cheaper
How is it that there are tons of friendly people around and yet KC is said to be one of the worst cities in the USA for dating. You’d think friendly people mingling would mean abundant dates, right?
@CybeargPlays It tracks with a lot of the comments that I read on Reddit. A lot of people born and raised here that have tight friend groups. People marry their high school sweethearts, etc.
Great video! I am a native Kansan, growing up in Topeka and suburban Kansas City (Westwood) on the Kansas side. When I left the nest, I moved to St. Louis, Missouri. Later on, I moved to Huntsville, Alabama, Terre Haute, Indiana, and back to Huntsville. where I live now. I have fond memories of all these places.
Kansas and Missouri are both national jokes now, horrible states to live in with completely dysfunctional state governments, horrible weather 80% of the year, high taxes, people stuck in their own bubbles most of the time, and huge brain drain.
Grew up in KC. Left after graduating from High School. Just returned from a visit with my son for his first visit. First visit in 25 years. It's a nicer city and there is lots to do but I know that I could not live there, living near LA now.
KC may have a lot of tech jobs available, but no tech careers. They keep trying to offer me half of what I'm making currently by working remotely for another tech company. They want my skill set but simply aren't willing to pay for it. Do prefer living here over anywhere on the east or west coast. Moved around a lot until I got to KC.
Exactly correct, Kansas Shitty metro area has garbage wages for many positions, and the fact of the matter is the cost of living is substantially higher there than 10 years ago. Far better places to live, glad I left a long time ago.
@@Pahoe77 have lived in Western KS 90% of my life, and actually moved back here from KC last December, and yep, we are very familiar with the neglect Colorado has for anything east of Denver. I legit think they aren't even trying. When their legislature gets the requests for improvements from their Colorado DoT they all look at each other and laugh as they scratch red ink through the "Eastern section of I-70 infrastructure." And it has been this way for as long as I can remember.
I moved to KCK 7 years ago. People are not very friendly and dating sucks. It's hard as a single adult, but I haven't made a single friend here. The humidity is on par with Boston, so it can be suffocating at times. It's moye affordable than Colorado, but I can't wait to move back. Or probably anywhere but here actually. If you think the people are welcoming and friendly in KC, it's probably because you're from the coast where people are notoriously rude. People here are nice, but they aren't friendly. There's a difference.
I feel like I’m in a very similar situation that you were in. I spent the majority of my life in Kansas City. I lived in Wyandotte County but went to a private school in Overland Park. I graduated high school in 2019 and did one year of community college at JCCC. I joined the U.S. Army in 2020 and will be finishing my enlistment in about a year and a half. My family wants me to move back but I had thought I convinced myself I wanted to move to a new city and get a fresh start After getting to see the new airport and all the change and growth it has gone through im considering moving back. Ultimately I want to do professional sports photography and I’m starting to realize that I don’t have to necessarily move away to be part of that career field Also my initials (EMS) are on your license plate so I think that might be a sign 😆😆
My personal experience was that I needed to get out of KC for awhile before I could start to appreciate it more. Over time I have fallen back in love with this city, but it’s completely different than my experience growing up. HMU next time you’re in town and we can grab coffee or a beer 🍻
I'm so sorry that you were trapped in Kansas. There's nothing in Kansas but for profit prison. They don't even have menthol cigarettes. Plus they named the entire state Kansas way after we were established in Missouri as Kansas City which I've always found to be suspiciously off-putting.
I moved from Ft Lauderdale to Overland Park 5 months ago. My water bill went from $75/mo (including sewer) to $250/mo PLUS a $100 for sewer. My home owners insurance on the other hand went from $9500/year in FL to $2500/year in KC for a house 3x larger.
The main problems here for me as just a normal poor guy working in a warehouse making 23$ per hour. 1. Its super easy to get jobs, BUT even with a good paying job its hard to find an affordable place to live. 1 bedroom apartment rent is over 1000$ and mortages are around 250k on Zillow atleast. Even 23$ an hour has me living check to check with zero savings and barely able to keep my bank account positive. And 2. Almost every stoplight intersection in the city has a couple homeless people begging for money and yelling at cars that drive by....most of which being meth heads cause we have multiple meth capital sub-cites within KC. So basically its hard to afford a home of any kind unless ur a doctor, lawyer, tech guy, etc that makes big time money. If ur a normal lower middle class peasent u are screwed
We loved our time in Kansas. We literally knew all our neighbors, cost living seemed cheap, and not a lot of traffic. Great food, good people. We’re considering to retire there. Johnson county FTW!
I LOVE KC! This is second time living here & I don’t ever ever ever want to leave! I’m so excited about alllll the updates even if that means higher water bills! So worth it!
@@TylerDietzNot exactly. The town of Kansas was located in Kansas and the town of Westport was located in what became Kansas City, Missouri but it really doesn't matter at all. Nobody was alive from back then so really this is not that important.
KC is also RIPE with road ragers. As an employer, new hires have a sense of entitlement to such an extreme as to refuse to abide the processes of learning skills and growing in a field, vastly different when compared to cities like st Louis, Tulsa, Dallas, or Indianapolis. 1:46 There are a LOT of faucets that spit black gunk out every time you turn them on. In businesses, in homes, apartments, and gas stations. 0:58 Very few people are open to new ideas or change. 9:39 which makes this "Midwestern friendliness" a bold lie. I've lived in a lot of different places around the Midwest, South, and North East of this country, and KANSAS CITY is by FAR the LEAST welcoming or friendly of all the places I've lived. Theres also a really weird effect of people in the metro thinking they're somehow "more in touch" or better than those in the burbs (like lees summit, platte city, or blue springs) yet those who are further out than that feel this communal draw to the metro. We also dont have ANY state parks anywhere near the city, so if you enjoy nature and space, the only space u will experience is the urban sprawl. KC frequently touts its oh so progressive mindset, in such a conservative area. Lots of surrounding areas are full of conservative rural minds, and those in the city have this view of being the midwest version of Hollywood or Atlanta or Dallas, but they actually don't offer any of the benefits or opportunities as those places they liken themselves to.
Agree 100%, there are many reasons why the Kansas City metro area is a huge economic laggard compared to much more dynamic and innovative metro areas in other parts of the country. Locals generally despise change, and there is a very large amount of apathy, complacency, and mediocrity. It could be the low energy effect due to the obesity epidemic there along with other factors. Throw in the state line which really hinders economic cooperation, terrible weather most of the year, cliquish unfriendly people, and rather high taxes- there's most of the reasons why many people prefer to move elsewhere. The "good enough" mentality is also why high achieving younger people head for the exit doors elsewhere as fast as they can.
I just moved back to my hometown in Wisconsin after 20 plus years living in Kansas City Missouri! I hated living there! He's right about the potholes they are ridiculous and the personal property tax is robbery! They tax you for everything even if you have a non running car, or a trailer to pull your car ect .... They tax you every year! You buy a new car you pay taxes ! Every year you own that vehicle you pay taxes! Crime is everywhere I got that but it's really gotten bad there! Would I move back? No way!
Wisconsin has higher taxes too, but is far better in overall quality of life as you can see that the taxes you pay- they result in much better education, roads, infrastructure, and far better income levels than most of Missouri.
In the late 1990's, there was a microburst (an inverted tornado) that ripped through downtown KCMO, severely damaging lots of buildings. It took quite some time to remove debris, repair structures and replace all the glass.
Let me tell ya something, kid. . .I've lived in a number of places, both big and medium-sized. . .And in EVERY ONE of them I met people who said living there was terrible. EVERY ONE! It didn't matter where I was, there was ALWAYS someone telling me I shouldn't have moved there. It doesn't matter where you go, there will always be someone who thinks it's the worst place to be.
Our water bill, in our town, I don’t know about the state, is $112.00, unless you’re on a meeter, which several people I know on a meeter pays about the same and many pay higher. Those that pay significantly less don’t regularly flush toilets and don’t water their lawns 😢
18” on average. I did a video comparing the key differences between Denver and KC if you’re interested Moving to Kansas City from Denver | What Are The KEY Differences?! ruclips.net/video/rj2BDH3klUo/видео.html
I lived in Colorado for 23 years. I was born here, in Kansas City, Missouri. I can't really tell you about Kansas, but it's close enough that it should be about the same. Winter storms in KC are far fewer and further between than in Denver metro. We tend to get wetter snows. We don't have famous lifelong discussed blizzards, like the Denver blizzard of '83 or the several major blizzards since then. We usually just get a light dusting. Occasionally, once or twice a year, we'll have accumulation that is more than an inch or two. The spring time is when our foul weather begins. It rains nearly daily. And there are storms that can last for 3 or more days here. We get a lot of wind, which knocks down a lot of trees. Summer begins with the humidity. It's starting to get pretty humid now, mid-May. But this is an uncommon year. It usually starts in early May. However, it is very tolerable until the end of June. July and August are doggy(dog days of summer). September, it's 101 degrees on one day, and 40 the next. All-in-all, the weather is not bad in comparison to Colorado. We don't have dry heat, and we don't have a lot of snows. The ground is fertile and not dusty. We have a lot of bodies of water. We also have abundant wild-life. Namely, insects. Colorado has far worse mosquitoes than KC, but we have a lot more creepy-crawly's. A lot. We also have firefly's(lightening bugs). Which is pretty cool. And cicada's. They are loud, but you don't notice it. It's almost a beautiful sound when you do pay attention to it.
Finding a job in KC is TERRIBLE. And if you’re white collar.. you’re probably moving away. While the blue collar majority can’t afford to live here because all they want to build is luxury housing for NYers and Californians to move in.
Yes there's like no jobs in KCMO unless you want work retail. I see why all the old ppl are moving here to retire but I definitely don't see anyone elevating themselves beyond minimum wage living here
@@Swiss816 KC lacks a larger percentage of higher quality white collar jobs as well because few Fortune 500 or Fortune 100 companies are located in the area, and tech companies tend to be smaller in size as well as employee count. KC has a decent number of engineering positions, but way too many retail and service industry jobs. Disgusting amount of fast food restaurants everywhere as well.
@@KS5040 Yea definitely nothing worth sticking around for. I'm confused as to why younger ppl move here. I'm trying to get the hell out. It's dreadfully mundane here
I currently live in the Minneapolis/St. Paul, MN metro, and Minnesota is my native home. However, things are becoming much more liberal, to the point of being a nightmare. I am conservative, but liberal in many ways too. I have always known Minnesota to be "Minnesota Nice," which is actually passive/aggressive. I have family and friends who live in Missouri, and love it. I admire the sense of directness and genuine nature of Missouri. I have been to Kansas City before, and I could devour that barbecue. You also have Caribou Coffee on both sides of the border. Awesome Coffee! I am 52 retired military, never married, college educated, and I have a career with FedEx. With that company, I can transfer anywhere, and would likely be working at the airport. What do you suggest moving there?
I wouldn't recommend it at all, try a different area of Minnesota like Rochester or Duluth. The Upper Midwest is far better in most quality of life measures than LOUSY Missouri and Kansas. Both are going backward over time with a huge brain drain and the steady march much further to the right politically than you would probably be comfortable with, that's for sure.
@@KS5040 I'm not the average native Minnesotan. I retired from military service after 22 years in 2012. I have family that lives in Branson and Springfield. My father did his Army basic training at Fort Leonardwood. I don't mind the traditional values, and I am educated with a bachelor's degree. I want to get away from the liberalism, particularly after the George Floyd riots. Those people are actually going socialist, and I can't deal with the sense of entitlement gained from empowerment from them. I am conservative, but liberal in many ways. Just not outwardly direct about it. I admire the sense of directness and genuineness from Missouri people. I am tired of the passive/aggressive "Minnesota Nice" disingeuous character of Minnesota. I love Minnesota as my native home, but with how progressive it's becoming, it is not enjoyable living here. I will wait to see what the election brings and decide later.
@@howardg2435 Missouri ranks far worse than Minnesota in many categories, regardless of how you look at many things through a political lens. Missouri is a low wage wasteland, filled with many very very poor towns that have next to no infrastructure investment at all along with very bad drug abuse and dysfunction. Missouri also has very poor educational attainment outside of a few small wealthy suburban areas. I wouldn't prefer to live in Minneapolis itself either, but if moving to Missouri you have to expect that general expectations there are much lower, to go along with the low taxes/low wages model.
@@KS5040 Sorry I left you a couple days, but this is sad to read. It's also a sad reality for so much of the country. I realize I would stay in the Twin Cities, but the suburbs here. St. Paul is a better, safer place than Minneapolis for sure. I lived in St. Cloud, Minnesota, and it reminds me of much of what the tight knit social climate is in Missouri. Basically, unless you grew up there, you are an outcast that will not fit in. This man even mention a poor dating scene in Kansas City, and I could see a reflection of that statewide in Missouri. Much of the infrastructure left Missouri too, like the railroad companies. Two examples were Missouri Pacific and the Missouri Kansas and Texas, which were bought by Union Pacific. That is a hard blow financially to any area. I see the biggest thing driving people away really is the lack of educated people, and the fact that they have extreme socio/political views they see as traditional. That is on top of the drugs, crime, and violence. I see why places like Missouri are fly over states. that is very sad to see, and why it would be considered a low wage nightmare. I work for FedEx, and am able to keep my current wage rate, but I could see it going lower in Missouri. I hope they can fix things to attract people, but the education system has to be better funded somehow. That will take work, but Missouri needs to work on figuring that out. West Virginia is pretty much a dead state with nothing at all left. I hope Missouri does not go down the same path.
I have lived in KC since 2012 moved here from Ohio, yes our roads SUCK!! Actually got a flat tire a few months ago driving on 435 The only other things I can complain about is groceries being taxed , having to pay property tax yo register a new vehicle, and yes humidity is horrible..
I live in Johnson County too, but kcmo is definitely more interesting to visit and have fun in....but i'm also not like 60 years old and think a night out at Applebee's is "partying" it out on a Saturday night.
The Kansas side has amazing roads, not so great on the Missouri side its pot hole city. KC has a great food and brewery scene. The only thing KC needs is an NBA team.
NBA team? LOL, they're going to lose their baseball team over the stadium debacle. If they do manage to stay and build a new stadium the locals will have to subsidize all of that with massive tax increases. Good luck with that.
the KC road problem will never go away. There are a couple big reasons for that. 1, KC is in the middle of the country and a huge trucking hub and lots of trucks drive through there. Therefore, the roads take a beating from all the Big Semi Trucks. 2, KC lies in an area that it gets a lot of wet winter weather, many times it's kice, not snow. The ice hardens and separates the concrete and asphalt. lots of days where you get snow, it melts, re freezes. it's also a problem for basements if you don't' take care of your gutters. Gutter guards don't work. Humidity is really bad from June to August. worst than most people have ever dealt with. I'm used to it, I have lived north of the River my whole life and love it's rich history. I have also been through an F2 tornado. Very regular event. One other thing I have also hated as I am a car guy is the salt they use on the roads, it rusts cars bad. I also restore classic cars and they are hard to find that don't need a lot of rust repair. KC is a pretty good Pool (billiards), good food, best BBQ in the country, Car city, gotta have a car. WE cleaned the democrats out that were do nothings. Claire McCastle and rino Roy Blunt. We are in a much better place now. We need to get our mayor out. He's not really that great. KC has always had a great BMX, freestyle bmx, skateboarding and roller skating going on. lots of skate parks. Been lots of great freestyle riders in KC. Lots of off road motorcyling events, car events, fishing, hunting.
Thing is there is really nothing to do out here. KCMO is basically industrial. so it's all warehouses, as it's a big trucker hub so ...Lots of 18wheelers. property tax is STupid rediculous and mr mayor there's a lot of internal stuff going on like Jackson wanting to seperate from KC tired of paying for mayor pet projects .
11:20 The dating scene in KC is awful. KC residents support monogamy not hookups! Thank goodness KC has a large Mexican 🇲🇽 Community otherwise I would not have met my wife.
That's awesome to know that the lively Mexican 🇲🇽 community in the city played a big part in you meeting your wife. It just goes to show how cool it is when diverse folks can connect and make meaningful things happen.
Does “dating” mean promiscuous casual hookups? Maybe that’s why KC ranks so low. What are the stats on dating as in “courting with the hope of a serious long-term monogamous relationship”?
Monogamy is defined as dating a single partner at a time. Most people likely identify as this. I understand where you come from in regards to diversity issues, not so much the former..
Hi Kyle! Thanks for some great info about KCK and KCMO. I'm in KC about two times every year in line of my work. And now we are in discussions of moving over to KC from Gothenburg, Sweden. My work is in Olathe and most of my friends over at Independence, Grain Valley and Blue Springs. In which area should I start looking for an apartment? My sixteen year old daughter is also moving over with me so any good suggestions for schools?
There are several places throughout the metro that would be a good fit. I would check out Blue Springs first and then Lees Summit and Independence next.
I've lived in Olathe for 30 years and love it. Johnson County, KS has many cities that are wonderful to live in, and the schools are outstanding. Lenexa, Leawood, Olathe, Overland Park, and Shawnee are great places. This video is about KC, Missouri. Many of the negatives don't apply to the Kansas side.
I’ve lived in KC my whole life except one year in Boston: here are all my pluses and minuses. Minuses: -Public transportation-nonexistent or you have to drive to get any. -personal- because you barely cross paths with anyone you feel like you’re being stared at all the time because you prolly are. -sidewalks- straight up decoration no one used them and if you do you’re going to be getting stared at. -heat- the humidity never goes away and when it does extreme winters come. -politics- it’s like you’re next to the state house every single day the amount of political talk and tension is intense. -urban sprawl- 15 minute drive anywhere you go, no contact with people unless they are working for you, horrible drivers because everyone has to be on the road, intrusive highways and nothing but highways. -Dangerous metro- feels very unsafe in most areas and with the relatively low metro population feels like you are getting stared at. -getting stared at/eye contact-the eye contact when passing people is extremely personal and most people say something. It is welcoming and kind but definitely caught me off guard after being in NYC and Boston. -housing quality- especially in comparison to the north east the housing quality is immaculate. -Relationships- the strongest relationships form here but with urban sprawl once you’ve locked a friend group there is not a lot of deviation. -privacy- with urban sprawl you can walk around your house naked and no one would know. -sports- high school sports is way more competitive than most of the north at least above Boston. Also all of the sports teams in KC is quite nice. -schools- seems like education on the Kansas side is superior to most other states/cities. -Food- I mean it doesn’t get more diverse when it comes to cuisine. Overview if you love the suburbs this is your place. If you love big cities this is not your place. If you’re unsure you’ll prolly like it but definitely notice things that are pretty impractical for a city design. I personally want to be in Brooklyn or Queens so it’s hard for me to not be biased towards urban sprawl or things of that nature.
Moved here 2 years ago and within 72 hours my car was broken into. Friendly people? I lived in Mississippi for 5 years and the Midwest has nothing on the south. Humidity? Again, i lived in Mississippi, this is nothing. The roads? They're horrible. I had to buy new wheels last year because they were bent and/or cracked. The potholes are terrible and they're everywhere. On the upside though, my daughter absolutely loves all the parks and fountains. KC does seem to be more family friendly than most places ive lived.
I try to go to KC and metro when I can and enjoy it. I'm single and it is hard to meet people there and everytime I go there I'm definitely alone but still love everything about the city. The potholes there are vicious though. Specially on Southwest BLVD.
@@drunkdonutboyIf you're only talking about the Midwest: Sure, Grand Rapids, MI metro area (close to the Manistee National Forest and other State Forest). Appleton, WI/Green Bay metro area close to the Nicolet National Forest and hundreds of lakes nearby. Duluth, MN, a metro area on the shores of Lake Superior, with National Forest and lakes everywhere. Of course, there is Milwaukee and Madison, Milwaukee being on Lake Michigan, and Madison being on an isthmus, surrounded by Lake Mendota and Lake Monona. Cost of living in most of those are similar or a bit more than KC, but they are generally smaller metro areas. I'm not a fan of larger populated areas.
!! I don’t know if anyone manages this pages comments, looks like I might get lucky on this page!.. but my family and I are looking to move very close to this area for my husbands work. This city and a couple other towns around it popped up. I was wondering how racially accepting this area is? That is probably my biggest fear coming from a VERY small but pretty diverse town in Ohio. Looking at the demographics doesn’t always give super accurate data. We are a blended family, and have kids who are white to dark black. We are every color in between. Would this area fit us in? Olathe, Blue Springs, Grain Valley to name a few that came up.
F all. Home prices have relegated me to the sandhills. I bought a derelict house and hammered it back together for around 50k. It might be worth 35k if i just took the first offer. Shii like this makes me feel like a failure. Where did the years go? Jobs must be paying a fortune now. 😂❤
@@Pahoe77 No, poor job opportunities there in my specialized field, glad I left in 2008. Only homers tend to like KC, it's a bypassed metro area with mostly lazy locals that hate change.
I used to be a truck driver and can tell you that Missouri is actually middle of the pack if not a little better than average in terms of roads. If you want to see really bad city streets, go to Milwaukee and other Wisconsin cities, especially along the lake. Holy moly.
Of course, he is talking about Kansas City Missouri mostly. Every once in a while he talks about "metro area." Roads and potholes are a Missouri thing. Kansas has the best roads in the country. Literally. Kansas City Missouri is only about 1/4 of the KC metro area. Half is in Kansas. This is a "take it with a grain of salt" review.
I mean, the channel is called Moving to Kansas City. Not moving to the Kansas City Metro. Although, I’ve made plenty of other videos coming those parts too. Cheers!
@@movingtokc Don't know. Just saw your video. I would have a different opinion about what people think when you say Kansas City. If people place it they usually place it in Kansas. Not Missouri. I also don't think people think... KCMO/KCKS... its Kansas City. The metro Kansas City. The city of 3 plus million people not the city of 500,000. I think its people living on the Missouri side that get touchy about it. Lived in KC for many years. On both sides of the line although I live in Lawrence now.
I moved to KCK from KCMO and I think KCK is MUCH better! No trash piled up on the streets or graffiti like Mo side and the people are much friendlier. I think it's more culturally diverse also. Taxes are higher but you can see the tax money at work. I personally wouldn't go back to the Mo. side. No matter how much crap I get from friends and family on the Mo side lol
Our roads are terrible, we are really spread out, too much infrastructure and not enough population density so insufficient tax revenue to maintain them and we just keep spreading out more.
@@movingtokcNo, it’s not! Kansas City is overcrowded and prices are inflating to heights that we’ve never seen before. We honestly should turn others back, it’s honestly making living harder on all of the residents that currently reside here.
And what is wrong with Kansas City? It's not any worse than any other city in the country. Not as big as say New York City, Chicago, Dallas or LA but what the heck to me they are way too big. I lived in Johnson county most of my life but my family and I moved to Linn county in 1990 and boy howdy it's about as trilling as ? We moved because we needed a larger house because there were six of us at the time. But two moved out and three have died. One of the two came back and now my brother and I are all that's left. We're seniors. God bless.
Moved away from the dotte. Current small town , population 1800, is way better than living off 18th and central. But we do make the 4 hour drive few times a year to visit. But our personal economy is way higher than it was living in the metro
There's no excuse for the roads, Jackson county took in millions from the concerts at Arrowhead last year and not to mention the income tax they take. With all streams of revenue they take in I should be able to eat off the streets.
We moved from Hawaii to KCMO in 2021 and there are soooo many ways we love it here way more than back home and I agree with all the positives in the video. Some negatives we didn’t expect tho are….
-All the trash on the highways/freeways (not just roadkill)
-Malls here suck.
Saw a news story here on RUclips about the trash, the trash companies are not covering their loads on their way to waste stations
Seconding the Oak Park Mall recommendation.
Trash is not included in the water bills for KC. Water and sewer is. Trash is part of local taxes.
@@nathansmith4423 And the trash is different depending on which part of KC you are in. Some areas have competition and some areas are like you indicated part of local taxes.
I wouldnt let the fear of tornados keep you away. I dont even consider us tornado alley anymore.
Awesome! Thanks for sharing your thoughts.🙌💯
Lol the water bill part made me chuckle because my Florida water bill is at least $200+ for 3 people yet in kansas it avgs $130
Just FYI, Johnson County, KS has some of the best tap water in the nation :)

Absolutely. There are pros and cons to any place. I love KC! Shoot me a text if you’d like help with finding your place here 720-270-6649
I left SoCal for KS, Plains states people are friendly, humble, down to earth, love it here, save so much in some of these states you can go to SD for a few weeks in the summer and warm places in the winter.
I’m thinking about moving from San Diego to Kansas City but the weather is scaring me lol I’m just used to good weather all yr being from SD
I will never again buy a house where there is clay and plan to move largely because of it.
reminds me of how homes in old Texas have foundation cracks due to heat
i just moved near tmobile in kc from columbia. only bad thing i think is the roads. there are somehow worse traffic and homeless in columbia than here in kc.
Our monthly property taxes on just the house is $350!! It's just insane!

moved here from New York at 23 and yeah, making friends is so hard here.

I have worked for both FedEx and UPS in Kansas City in Westport plaza brookside South Kansas City all over and I have seen a plethora of the homeless that occupy those areas that entire time! I'm talking literally well over 12 years consistently doing the same thing with no intention of changing their situation!
How do you think they could?
You are delusional if you think there is no way to change your life in 12 years especially since it's been proven that some of the people that are down there doing this pay for homes and have a completely separate other life! They probably don't spend all the money on booze and drugs
Good job on the video but there is no St Louis Illinois. It's East St Louis and its a dump. Nobody confuses the two like KCK and KCMO. Also we are divided by a river and not a road.
Oh yeah💯 Let me know if there’s anything local that you think I should cover in future videos.
I would move from the East Coast to KC area just to be around friendly welcoming people…
I did and ive been here for 7 months and ive been a lot happier
Glad you’re here! 🙌🏼
I moved to Corpus Christi in 2017, if I could move back I absolutely would 😢

Hope to be moving to KC in the next couple weeks from Miami. I’ve heard the Kansas side is better?? What say?
It depends. Do you prefer city or suburbs? Where will you work? Are schools important? What’s your budget?
Thanks for this and all your content. very helpful

Exactly correct, Kansas Shitty metro area has garbage wages for many positions, and the fact of the matter is the cost of living is substantially higher there than 10 years ago. Far better places to live, glad I left a long time ago.

Think it's bad here. Crossover kansas state line into Colorado, especially on 70. Like driving on a cob, or roads that have been strafed.
@@Pahoe77 have lived in Western KS 90% of my life, and actually moved back here from KC last December, and yep, we are very familiar with the neglect Colorado has for anything east of Denver. And it has been this way for as long as I can remember.

Kyle, thanks for making this. Any thoughts on Manheim Park? I have seen a lot of nice infill houses in that area recently.
I really like Manheim Park. A lot of new construction going on over there!
Keep in mind all these new homes are awesome massive four to five bedroom houses that really are built shoddy as fuck

My family wants me to move back but I had thought I convinced myself I wanted to move to a new city and get a fresh start
After getting to see the new airport and all the change and growth it has gone through im considering moving back.
Ultimately I want to do professional sports photography and I’m starting to realize that I don’t have to necessarily move away to be part of that career field
Also my initials (EMS) are on your license plate so I think that might be a sign 😆😆
My personal experience was that I needed to get out of KC for awhile before I could start to appreciate it more. Over time I have fallen back in love with this city, but it’s completely different than my experience growing up. HMU next time you’re in town and we can grab coffee or a beer 🍻
Yeah for sure that sounds great 👍
I'm so sorry that you were trapped in Kansas. There's nothing in Kansas but for profit prison. They don't even have menthol cigarettes. Plus they named the entire state Kansas way after we were established in Missouri as Kansas City which I've always found to be suspiciously off-putting.
Yes water is ridiculous!!!!! In kcmo...Grandview water is a good price
Rent is to HIGH since covid it's ridiculous

As long as Kansas keeps accepting west coast money, kc will continue to try to be like California
Without anything geographic or climate to actually warrant it. We’re just not that cool naturally.
The original Kansas city is in MO. Kansas city MO existed before Kansas was a state. KCK and KCMO are two different cities
@@TylerDietz We know… MO is the only one standing against the west coast money in the Midwest it seems.
So thats why misery is so poor
@@TylerDietzNot exactly. The town of Kansas was located in Kansas and the town of Westport was located in what became Kansas City, Missouri but it really doesn't matter at all. Nobody was alive from back then so really this is not that important.
KC is also RIPE with road ragers.
As an employer, new hires have a sense of entitlement to such an extreme as to refuse to abide the processes of learning skills and growing in a field, vastly different when compared to cities like st Louis, Tulsa, Dallas, or Indianapolis. 1:46
There are a LOT of faucets that spit black gunk out every time you turn them on. In businesses, in homes, apartments, and gas stations. 0:58
Very few people are open to new ideas or change.
At least we have Planet Comicon & Planet Anime 😅
I just moved back to my hometown in Wisconsin after 20 plus years living in Kansas City Missouri! I hated living there! He's right about the potholes they are ridiculous and the personal property tax is robbery! They tax you for everything even if you have a non running car, or a trailer to pull your car ect .... You buy a new car you pay taxes ! Every year you own that vehicle you pay taxes! Crime is everywhere I got that but it's really gotten bad there! Would I move back? No way!
I'm sorry to hear about your negative experience! What else happened?😱
Wisconsin has higher taxes too, but is far better in overall quality of life as you can see that the taxes you pay- they result in much better education, roads, infrastructure, and far better income levels than most of Missouri.

Colorado gets surprisingly little snowfall unless you live in the mountains (which the vast majority don't).
Kansas City Missouri is hard to find a job. You have to go to Kansas for a job, which means more taxes.
Lots of driving too as KC is very spread out and filled with sprawl.

I appreciate you share this @KCN007 ! 💯
the KC road problem will never go away.
@@American_Made your political BS is one of the main reasons I wanna move away from here. You bumpkins ruin our state and especially our city.
We had tornados in PV just a few days ago.
Couldn't tell you the difference between kc Kansas or the Missouri kc. My aunt I know lives in Orland Park where ever that is. I think it's Kansas.
Overland Park*
Fun fact, 44% of 'houseless' people have a job.

The dating scene in KC is awful.
Yeah, we are kind of smack in the middle of the Bible belt. IMO, monogamy is a good thing. 😁
Ya, heaven forbid that people not be degenerate.
He did not mention -
Is it KC, MO or KC, KS??
Cookingham drive needs repairs the road and the lighting needs some care
Awesome @PDTVProductions! Thanks for sharing your thoughts.🙌💯
It’s a beautiful and great city, feel free to not move here we like our locals.
Hey @rty36736 ! What would you say is your favorite part of living here? 😄
I’ve lived in KC my whole life except one year in Boston: here are all my pluses and minuses.
Minuses:
-Public transportation-nonexistent or you have to drive to get any.
I was in KC for the 2023 NFL Draft and I fell in love with the city and the people.
Glad you enjoyed your visit! Come back anytime!
Definitely should know that nobody in Kansas City knows how to drive!!!
Watch out for all the moronic SUV drivers with Johnson County license plate stickers, easy way to tell is the "JO" abbreviation.
@@KS5040for real though😅
I try to go to KC and metro when I can and enjoy it. I'm single and it is hard to meet people there and everytime I go there I'm definitely alone but still love everything about the city. The potholes there are vicious though. Specially on Southwest BLVD.
I thought it was just me that felt that way about the dating thing lol
It is one of the absolute WORST cities in the US for single people. I've lived in eight different metro areas, left KC in 2008. I despise that region.
@KS5040 it's one of the most beautiful places I've ever been and I'm trying my best not to leave even if it's isolating lol
@@drunkdonutboy There are plenty of much more scenic places to live, travel more if you think KC is beautiful, lol.
@@KS5040 such as? And with a comparable cost of living
Moved to KC in '88. Seems nice enough.. Not many complaints. Not enough to move elsewhere. 😅
KC is a horribly mediocre metro area filled with tons of apathetic and complacent people.
@@KS5040 So... low stress? 🤭😆
@@Pahoe77 No, poor job opportunities there in my specialized field, glad I left in 2008. Only homers tend to like KC, it's a bypassed metro area with mostly lazy locals that hate change.
@@KS5040 to each their own.
The best part of Kansas City is everything outside of Kansas City.
Most anywhere outside of Missouri and Kansas is better.
Local stand up comedy scene coming up.
I think bad roads and potholes applies to ALL OF MISSOURI!!!
I think I reference the rankings for Missouri roads in the video..
I used to be a truck driver and can tell you that Missouri is actually middle of the pack if not a little better than average in terms of roads.
If you want to see really bad city streets, go to Milwaukee and other Wisconsin cities, especially along the lake. Holy moly.
like 50% of these issues are fixed on the other side of Stateline (Kansas).
Why not give stats comparing KC to other major cities? KC comparing to those others are still positive!
I have 70 videos on my channel and have compared KC to others in many of them. Thanks for watching!
Why does he say "house less" instead of " homeless" ?? At first I thought he was about to talk about people living in apartments 😊
I prefer using terms like “Houseless” and “unhoused” rather than “homeless” 🤷🏼♂️
People can live in vehicles and that is their home, but it's not a house. I think houseless kind of covers everyone who is transient.
Euphamism treadmill.
KC is not that welcoming really. Yeah people are friendly, but the friendliness is superficial. It's being friendly to not be an a-hole
Yup! Right on with the h.s. sweetheart thing. ❤
☝🏼
Kc independence have some of the best water in the world that’s why
Our roads are terrible, we are really spread out, too much infrastructure and not enough population density so insufficient tax revenue to maintain them and we just keep spreading out more.
Ive lived here my whole life, it kinda sucks that the only cool thing we got is WORK and football…….
Shit we barely got work. All the jobs are in KS
Don’t forget, we rank #4 in crime and #8 in homicides!

You bet!
People aren't in your face about their politics... Except in Kansas City.
We're full, go away
Nah, there's plenty of room in KC!
I really don't want to go to Kansas, but the few jobs that will take me are in Kansas.
@@movingtokcNo, it’s not! Kansas City is overcrowded and prices are inflating to heights that we’ve never seen before. We honestly should turn others back, it’s honestly making living harder on all of the residents that currently reside here.
@BabyGangsta3542 Our population is growing by less than 1% yoy. There’s an inventory shortage which is a result of high interest rates.
Not even close to full lol
And what is wrong with Kansas City? It's not any worse than any other city in the country. Not as big as say New York City, Chicago, Dallas or LA but what the heck to me they are way too big. I lived in Johnson county most of my life but my family and I moved to Linn county in 1990 and boy howdy it's about as trilling as ? We moved because we needed a larger house because there were six of us at the time. But two moved out and three have died. One of the two came back and now my brother and I are all that's left. We're seniors. God bless.
I love Kansas City!
More cattle than people is way better..

Never! 😂
Let's be honest... For better everything outside of downtown lol.

Kansas? Or Missouri?
Definitely different situations and taxes.
Example….Kansas has a “Sin Tax”

@@albertacosta23 where are you moving from?
Moved away from the dotte. Current small town , population 1800, is way better than living off 18th and central. But we do make the 4 hour drive few times a year to visit. But our personal economy is way higher than it was living in the metro
Glad you found somewhere that makes sense for you 🙌🏼
The water bill is combined with the trash bill, that’s why it is higher.
It depends on which city you live in. Mission, KS trash is included with your homes tax bill.
Thanks for taking the time to comment!🙏
Not in Lee's Summit my water bill was higher than my electric bill this summer.
There's no excuse for the roads, Jackson county took in millions from the concerts at Arrowhead last year and not to mention the income tax they take. With all streams of revenue they take in I should be able to eat off the streets.
❤ Jackson county
