My grandfather Bob Merrill recorded that little jingle at 00:30 for Bob Hellebuck Sr. who owned Standard Home Improvement Company. He and his business partner Charles Moore would go on to make many more jingles in the greater KC area (along with several other commercials for local Ford dealerships) as well as recordings in their studio downtown. He passed years ago but its always wonderful to hear his voice- thanks for sharing!!
I LOVE that you shared that info. I remember hearing the FULL "anytime night or day" song on TV showing a honkytonk dressed band with a bouffant haired woman singing. I've tried TWICE contacting the Meinert family to see if any recordings exist.
So cool man I'm 52 years young and I will always remember that jingle, it used to make me grin and put me in a good mood every time I heard it! Thanks for sharing that little tidbit, that was very cool, you have a good day sir
Thanks to the uploader! I recall ALL these ads, many I saw in early 1970s as a child. I live in eastern KS, and always have, about 50 miles south from greater KC.
I live in JOPLIN MO, about 2.5 hours south of KC. We used to get KSHB KC 41 and I'd watch all the commercials and promos and wish I could go to those malls!
One vintage KC commercial I’d like to see again is one for Avenue Rental; I’ve never forgotten that jingle! Maybe it’s just me, but it seemed like that particular commercial aired most often on weekdays, usually in the late morning/early afternoon, and mostly on stations apart from WDAF, KCTV and KMBC.
I never knew there was more than one Bob's IGA! We had one in Richmond but I just thought that was some guy who owned that specific store. XD I was hoping to see the Ray Adams ad that always came on before Tales From The Darkside. I would see that outline of his face and I knew it was time to change the channel. LOL!
Furniture Showcase Super Store, and the innumerable Gaines Furniture outlet ads have stuck with me forever with their questionable use of copyrighted music with altered lyrics. All the Adams Toyota ads live rent free in my head as well. And, I seem to remember the "Loan Arranger" I think. I was pretty young in the 80s.
I remember most of these actually. Does anyone remember commercials for a company, I think was a lighting store called Abadah near Brookside, that seemed like the speaker had a speech impediment?
I know it was much later, but does any one remember those ads for Abadah Electronics? The guy that was supposed to be like Max Headroom.."Get g-g-g-g-good stuff here at a-ba-ba-ba-dah" Or the one where the guy was shopping for a bed/mattress;"Queen?Aren't they a rock group"? What was the business that had "call..??????????.....any time night or day"
Any chance you’ve got the old “I’ve been climbing trees all my life, but not trees near overhead lines” PSA? I’ve been looking for that for years but can’t find it anywhere.
Cause if you touch that line! Or your weight, makes a branch touch a line! That electricity can go! Right through you! It may even kill you! And climbing utility poles! Is really dangerous!
@@archangel_one I never met Bill but sorry to hear that. Boots was a family member of mine and that's how I knew him and his older children. Before Boots established in KC, he had dealerships in Deadwood SD and Newport Oregon. What a character he was.
@@kek3908 Thanks for the info. You got me looking up some of that old stuff. Sad to hear about such things. I remember going by that place for years and years, basically the infamous "Grandview Triangle".
If you are not aware at the 5:44 mark "Stan in the news room" was local news anchor Stan Carmack. Locally famous by his own right, but perhaps more notable is that he is the father of John Carmack, the creator of ID software(Wolfenstein 3D, Doom, Quake, etc) and the creator of the 1st person shooter and even network gaming done properly. John went to Shawnee Mission East High School and graduated a year before me in 1988.

Rochelle is still making Carpet Corner commercials!
Thank you for bring back all those good memories.
oh sweet jesus, I remember these as a kid!
One thing missing from the Gaines Furniture Outlet commercial I remember is the 70s playpit. 😆 🤣 😂
Wow...so great...how i miss it!! Thank you...
That Town and Country station wagon has to be the inspiration for the Family Truckster from Vacation!😂
Love the Malibu commercial. Back when trunks were big enough to fit a body into.

What about Ray Adams of Adams toyota come in for a test drive and leave with a diamond necklace
I wouldn't have thought Len Dawson would need to be a local KC news sportscaster.
He didn't need to...he wanted to. He loved this town.
He started when he was still playing. Did that and radio color commentary for the Chiefs nearly up till he died.
I felt like I was about to get up and turn the channel on the box on top of the TV with the numbers. Lol
Ikr 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Ya dig?!
This is wild!!!
Sounds like Gaines Furniture Outlet was Rick Rolled before it became popular. (That’s a Rick Astley song)
Is there any more from Col. Billy? His 'flying chair' ad was a classic.

I would love to see a Vesto’s TV commercial!!!
Nice video
I totally forgot about "boots williams ford"
Boots was a character, that's for sure.
One of his ads had a jingle: "You can bet your boots... Williams sells for less.... / And he'll keep a rollin' on...""
Bob Jones Shoes should be in this too.
GET ME THE ENTIRE LIBRARY OF HAP HAZARD!
Bob's IGA is in PITTSBURGH KS now
