unskippable ads that are blocking the content are indeed so bad for a LIVE-streaming service. on youtube videos it's just annoying but you don't miss anything. on twitch the ads can come at the moment were something interesting actually happens and you can't do anything about it (other than paying for a sub or twitch turbo).
what kills Twitch is the streamers, imagine having thousands of employees and every one of them bitch about everything you do to keep the company afloat 😂 bits? no, we will use 3rd party service ads? fuck your ads embedded ads? no, fuck you and on top of that you have Asmondgold, streaming on his alt account. Refusing to get it partnered just so Twitch won't get a cut from subs 🤡
I honestly liked their ads for bits option. You could choose when to start an ad and get bits for it. What made Twitch so cool was the fact that you had a community of streamers engage'ing with eachother. Not just from twitches end(basicly what you did), but from the content creator end. Would like to see a video about The Future of RUclips Streaming. I think they could easily take over streaming. The UI and streaming integration with RUclips is just really lacking. They need to combine the Live/Gaming Tabs and use the old RUclips Gaming UI, then put this Tab underneath the Shorts Tab....this would be a good first step.
I think RUclips has realized that shorts are a lot more profitable with less work than streaming so they're putting the product dev budget towards short form instead
@@DaWeaveGaming Yup and they have a monetization program for shorts where creators who are getting millions of shorts views a month get a cut of that ad revenue
26:24 Still here! Devin, I'm sorry to hear that you're a bit self conscious about the content you put up on RUclips, but I can say that I, and no doubt many others, love your RUclips content. @@TakarieZan I wish they would allow AWS for free without the bells and whistle while we have Amazon Prime. I could care less about Twitch at this point.
Clearly they are going to turn twitch into aws. Theyll be the unreal engine for live stream platform. Simply because the ads and money from fans are not enough to cover the cost. So just let alternative like kick exist and just collect the paycheck. They'll probably do a apple/unity move eventually. So they get a cut of every transaction for platform using their tech.
They can keep twitch as a platform and still use the business model you mentioned. The reality is they need more ad sales and/or Amazon needs to use Twitch to promote it's on Amazon sold products and services. @@RandomPerson-tz7wk
If they *really* projected strong growth of ad revenue (as they claim), the site is exceptionally mismanaged. Because everyone being online for longer than a hot minute knows, the big advertisers stay away from anything even remotely considered sexual content.
Honestly, if youtube would fix its live stream chat to make it more like twitch, youtube could seriously kill Twitch off or damn near close to it. I used to watch Twitch a lot, but have been doing so a lot less lately. Twitch turbo is too expensive for what you get (no ads). Nevermind the fact that adblockers still work on youtube (which won't always be a guarantee), RUclips premium is around the same price as Twitch Turbo and you get RUclips Music and other features as well. I don't love the Google monolith or all of Google's policies, but it's not like Twitch is any better these days. The startup charm that Twitch once had is long gone, and they're basically just a big tech company at this point.
There is a reason this happens to such an insane degree - When the Federal Reserve artificially lowers interest rates to the point where borrowing is cheaper than risking your own money companies miscalculate resources. Investors pump money into whatever the biggest markets are. As they slowly allow interest rates to rise where they should have been the mistakes show up in a big way. This is the least of the distortions that will be showing up in the near future.
still watching and I LOVED the corporate speak translating you were doing with Dan! It helped me understand what he was saying so clearly! Like watching Anime and you just turned on the subtitles LOL
I think there are CEOs that do different things... some increase the company size and branch out on risks that may or may not succeed and some CEOs that cut cost to by cutting employees with some cutting to deep too. My mom worked high level at a company in biotech, and the company was growing and expanding quickly... and then the CEO left, and the board got a new CEO that was the kicking cost CEO. That CEO almost put the company into a downward spiral because his cost cutting was we don't need the temp workers, we don't need in-house shipping, cutting R&D on new drugs, we don't need things... and literally whole departments were gutted of people that actually were the only people that knew some parts of the company to a point the stock market thought they have there first dip in revenue/profit growth... luckily the CEO experiment from the board lasted 2 years and found a new CEO. So Clansey seems like a cleaning up the functions type of CEO... but after that is done, they will replace him with a CEO looking for growth again or Twitch could just become irrelevant too. CEO are cycles of growth under one, and cleaned under another... if that cycle ends, the company ends.
26:24 Devin brought up something that I don't really think about, the idea that some tech jobs are transient. Build the thing, thank you, you built it, good bye. It made me consider my position (in tech). I am fortunate to have a role that won't go away. Even if some AGI comes along, what I do is important enough to necesitate human oversite. Could be that half my department gets cut cuz we are hyper efficient in the new era, but I'm a go getter so I'm confident I won't be the 50%. Makes me thankful that I lucked into my position.
Hey Devin, I've always appreciated your detailed takes on all the topics you cover. Having that unique insight and knowledge makes your videos very unique and interesting to listen to, even if they're longer. (I'll just put them on in the background) And the fact that you already have over a hundred thousand people that have subscribed shows that there is a big enough niche for this kind of content to do well. It won't be as popular to the wider audience of RUclips, but that's what the short-er form videos are for. The people that want to learn more than what those videos provide will find your videos and love them. And to the point of them being "good enough" for RUclips: There are people that love watching reaction channels even though the only real new value these videos add is a unique personality they like. If those videos are good enough, yours definitely are too. :)

26:24 still watching always. Sounds like the archive on patreon is on a different level.. gonna need to get that going. Hope you're enjoying this POE season. I've never had more fun playing!
The main reason why I started watching online video services like RUclips/Twitch instead of the TV was the content interruption by the ads. Many of my friends followed soon after. Now that ads get more and more intrusive in online video services as well and while it's getting harder to block ads, it's no wonder these services stop growing and even decline. Don't get me wrong, I love watching live streams but if not even high budget movies are worth watching ads for on TV then live streams sure aren't either. If your business model requires you to make your product worse to be profitable then this can't be a healthy long term business.
26:24 easily the only person on youtube who I don't miss a single video, I even consume all the patreon content and I don't own a single business. Just solid good info
26:54 I am still here, it is nice to hear from someone who knows about the industry and can break down some of the information in a meaningful way dude!
26:24 , long time viewer. I appreciate your perspective. So informative. I always tell people about you when live streaming is brought. Nobody does it better.
So many nuggets in one video. Here till the end as always. One of the few channels I jump on as soon as the notification comes up,. Keep up the great work! Upload schedules are overrated.
I am still watching and am always here whenever you make a video, I really love your videos allot and I always come to you whenever I want real info, there is no fake or clickbaits with you, no misleading, you just lay facts straight as they are and I really love honesty like that~ If Content Creators / Influencers lose the name, I feel that you will be one of the names that would save it due to always posting real info and not doing it for a gain, or doing anything shady out of fear or greed~ I hope that you create more videos, don't feel like you aren't providing value, your value for me is on first place, one of the most important ones, you are a true gem to everyone~ 💙🦋
Does this video translates the same to the lay offs on the gaming industry? Is it also about cutting cost, being more profitable, more automation and outsourcing? Did the game companies really made record profits this last year?, and if so, why are there being so much lay offs? I think this video does a really good job on putting the subject under perspective, and I'd be interested to know if the situation is similar on the gaming industry. Keep up the great work
It’s monkey see, monkey do. There are trends in leadership and management throughout the decades. People see someone successful and want to try the same things they do. It’s also a result of games being more focused on investment. Game sales may have done well, but CEOs are trying to min/max their costs and profits for next quarter. They can just keep core staff and outsource extra work until they need to hire a lot of people for their next big game
22:55 to the end. This right here. It has potential to be popular. It is weird, but I feel the precursor to livestreaming was public access TV, which was popular to a niche audience, and is still around. Wayne's World (although fake) is probably the best example. Public access in the 80s and 90s was popular enough for SNL to make a skit about it and it created two movies. I say this because the problem is definitely bringing new viewers. I told my family about Twitch and the first thought was Ellen's dancer Twitch. If Twitch ultimately fails and goes away, it's on us streamers. There's definitely a disconnect when it comes to online vs anything else. I totally agree it's up to the streamer to bring in viewers. I feel most don't know how to build an audience. There are ways to do so. For instance, locally most cities (at least in America) have a morning show that showcases community businesses. I see crafters, artists, authors, and we streamers need to tap into that, especially if you're an artist/crafter like me. WE need to make livestreaming known to the public.
Devin is the authority for me when it comes to Internet marketing. I’m not in the content game myself but I always appreciate your perspectives on all the platforms and their businesses. 26:24 homie checking out until the next one
26:24 - Still watching! When big news hits, there's usually so much hysteria and bait, but you bring great takes that come from real experience! That's mega value, and it's why I love watching your videos!
so happy to see devin content again, ive first watched when he was making content with ludwig on stream, then watched some more, but i didnt get to subscribe or follow, i really like the content, happy that this time i got to see on your channel and i can now subscribe
Hey Devin, so I started a hobby business 2 years ago, just hoping to make a few extra bucks while having fun and implemented a bunch of your advice and it is doing so well that it has become my main income! I still have some passive income from other stuff but I feel really proud that I managed to make a passion of mine my main gig. So thank you for getting me in the business mindset and taking things more seriously. I took a huge risk last summer and expanded on my business hoping it would work and I was in the green within 2 months! Even if I can't use every tip in all of your videos, even just listening to you speak makes me look at things from different angles and I think it has helped me a lot. So thank you!
The TLDR is basically that it takes a lot of people to build something up. Once it's built then it doesn't require as many people to maintain it and instead outsourcing when you need something outside the scope of operation is sometimes better then having everyone in house. And yes this is always my thought process when I see downsizing and not a complete bankruptcy and folding.
You look lovely when you explain Devin! 26:24 I think you are a great person to help us understand the entrepreneur side of things happening on these platforms
24:26 its always interesting to watch your videos and compare it to what i learn from people like richard lewis and louis rossmann. Glad to be here for such amazing info
I work in tech in the bay area. And companies like Apple over the years have only hired what they need for the long term. Never do layoffs. As long as you do what Devin mentioned, with only hiring what you need for the long term, you're good.
As a long time tech and ad agency guy I didn’t hear a single thing I don’t whole heartedly agree with… you are really really on point all the way to the end of the video. I think it’s going to be really important to streaming as a medium for creators to focus on viewer experience and making streams more about building a stronger community in your life and the lives of others in an increasingly lonely world… which is why I’m so convinced Discord will be entering the streaming space in a more serious way once the costs associated with bandwidth and transcoding are low enough. TLDR: Building communities of people who care deeply enough to keep their communities afloat may be the future of streaming and something Twitch has missed in a big way. Discord hasn’t. If Discord doesn’t make a serious play to compete with Twitch in their own way in the next 3 to 5 years I’ll eat my hat. On stream.
Another stellar Devin Nash video! At the end Devin reffered to there only being a few creators who are successfully utilising multistreaming, who are these people and what is setting them apart?
Still here and still watching! Thank you so much for your takes, as a PM for a different live stream platform I value your opnion a lot! And it helps in making decisions for sure!
26:24 Still here, Appreciate your view that is unclouded by politics etc... its business through and through and its a refreshing look on the industry without it being swayed in one direction or another.
26:24 great as usual. Nice to see a good take on the situation. When you see payoffs, people generally go with "omg, its dead" immediately. Even tho that doesn't necessarily mean bad. Most people said that when my company fired a whole department, they are next, got scared, etc. What they failed to realise that the whole department outlived its purpose, did not follow industry trends and was the only one that was released. Nothingnelse happened after.
26:24 still here. I answer EVERY survey that Twitch gives me as an affiliated member/user. I really like the take on this. 100% agree (even if the title was click baity ;) ) I have expressed a couple of ideas in the surveys that could be revenue generators but I am afraid these ideas do not reach the right eyes. However, a couple of the responses I pushed for in the surveys came to fruition. But these ideas echoed what you and Harris pushed for. Keep up the good work man :) -- Oh, and I am 50 and "carrying that weight"

I think RUclips has realized that shorts are a lot more profitable with less work than streaming so they're putting the product dev budget towards short form instead
@@jseppa Do shorts make youtube money? Didn't think they had ads on them
@@DaWeaveGaming Yup and they have a monetization program for shorts where creators who are getting millions of shorts views a month get a cut of that ad revenue
26:24 Still here!
Devin, I'm sorry to hear that you're a bit self conscious about the content you put up on RUclips, but I can say that I, and no doubt many others, love your RUclips content. I was just scrolling through my feed two days ago, unable to find anything worthwhile to watch, and I said to myself: "Man, I really wish Devin would post something about the twitch layoffs" and here we are. I will happily watch anything you post to your RUclips channel.
Thank you for the great content!
Say goodbye to twitch prime.
It’s great cause then I can cancel my Amazon prime subscription.
@@MrZithgalthat'd be insane
Was waiting to hear from you on this. Stoked to watch🤘
26:24 Always happy to see a new Devin Nash video come up on my YT feed.
Secret callout! Keep it up. You are doing work that can't be found anywhere else.
And to the point of them being "good enough" for RUclips:
There are people that love watching reaction channels even though the only real new value these videos add is a unique personality they like.
If those videos are good enough, yours definitely are too. :)
lol well I was click baited but I was like no twitch isn't dying what do you mean devin 9:26
Hell yeah, I’ve been waiting for this one! Let’s gooooo
Still watching, Devin. Informative as always.
I would like to hear your take on the Twitter/X situation.
Awesome video as always devin! 26:24 Love to listen to these well editing stuff.
26:24 thinking about what you’re saying about Twitch longevity and I realized I haven’t watched anything on Twitch in probably the last year.
Keep up the good stuff!
26:24 comment, Genuinely these videos you make are the best and most no BS resource that exist about the content creation world and where it's going. Keep rocking, you are helping thousands of people with your knowledge. Thank you 🙏🙏
26 24 - Seeing a Devin Nash upload about Twitch is like my favourite candy store having a discount. I love every upload!
26:24 one of the two gals here, represent ✌️😂 great stuff as always Devin. Your data backed commentary and unique insights are a breath of fresh air. Keep it up!
@26:24 Secret Shoutout! Another banger and loved the flip on the topic.
7:09 but yeah you just did celebrate them cutting the people that actually made the business an actual business.
26:24 still watching always. Sounds like the archive on patreon is on a different level.. gonna need to get that going. Hope you're enjoying this POE season. I've never had more fun playing!
Still here and still watching, I’m super happy you have uploaded man!
Keep up the great work and keep kicking ass
26:24, love these videos. As a creator on my Dora pfp alt it’s always refreshing to hear the reality of the space. Much love man.
26:24 I do appreciate the straightforwardness about the size of businesses. Not many will have the minerals to make these takes so public.
Devin top 5 dgg orbiter of all time
26:24 easily the only person on youtube who I don't miss a single video, I even consume all the patreon content and I don't own a single business. Just solid good info
26:54 I am still here, it is nice to hear from someone who knows about the industry and can break down some of the information in a meaningful way dude!
26:24 Love your content bro! Don’t ever quit! Upload when ya can. Like you say, better to do it & get it out there than for it to be perfect!
26:24 , long time viewer. I appreciate your perspective. So informative. I always tell people about you when live streaming is brought. Nobody does it better.
bro your stuff ist the most informative quality content regarding business related shit about livestreaming. every video is a treat for me
So many nuggets in one video. Here till the end as always. One of the few channels I jump on as soon as the notification comes up,. Keep up the great work! Upload schedules are overrated.
i’ve literally watched every video of yours. Dw about uploading, always here to watch!
Made it has 26:24 - Always catch the entirety of your videos. Always learn something. Appreciate it!
hey im still here and watching, have been a big fan of your work since 2019. Keep it up!
26:24 Was thinking throughout this whole experience "I can't wait to see what Devin thinks!" appreciate the upload and the thoughts :)
I am still watching and am always here whenever you make a video, I really love your videos allot and I always come to you whenever I want real info, there is no fake or clickbaits with you, no misleading, you just lay facts straight as they are and I really love honesty like that~
If Content Creators / Influencers lose the name, I feel that you will be one of the names that would save it due to always posting real info and not doing it for a gain, or doing anything shady out of fear or greed~
I hope that you create more videos, don't feel like you aren't providing value, your value for me is on first place, one of the most important ones, you are a true gem to everyone~ 💙🦋
You bring Information in a simple and understandable format, like Perun, you have your own way to teach.
26:24 Thank you for deciphering this from a CEO perspective its a valuable POV!
Devin is the authority for me when it comes to Internet marketing. I’m not in the content game myself but I always appreciate your perspectives on all the platforms and their businesses. 26:24 homie checking out until the next one
26:24 Ive been watching you on and off for years. Your perspective in the field is super unique. I enjoy your videos a ton! Keep it up:)
26:24 - Still watching! When big news hits, there's usually so much hysteria and bait, but you bring great takes that come from real experience! That's mega value, and it's why I love watching your videos!
26:24 Devin, thanks as always for these vids. As a person working in community/marketing, they enlighten me greatly
26:24 i appreciate the straight forward informative analysis. No bs, quality content as always 😊
so happy to see devin content again, ive first watched when he was making content with ludwig on stream, then watched some more, but i didnt get to subscribe or follow, i really like the content, happy that this time i got to see on your channel and i can now subscribe
Made the 26:24. I eat this shit up. Thanks for making these videos. I have a lot of respect for your measured, informative insights. You're awesome!
26:24 Are you optimistic at all that the industry can evolve or will it be consumed by something else?
32:06 begs the question what you are forecasting in 3-5 years?
26:24 squad! Always happy to support long form thought out content about the industry
Still here, still watching! As always, thank you for the content.
26:24 Your breakdowns are amazing, keep uploading!
2624 gang! Love your content and always look forward to your videos because you put actual value in your videos. They're always worth the watch.
I was just thinking about them shutting down in Korea earlier today. You always pick the best moments to release a new video.
26:24 Gang. Always appreciate the insight, Devin.
You look lovely when you explain Devin! 26:24 I think you are a great person to help us understand the entrepreneur side of things happening on these platforms
26:24 babay, I always finish your videos! You seem very genuine
24:26 its always interesting to watch your videos and compare it to what i learn from people like richard lewis and louis rossmann. Glad to be here for such amazing info
26:24 Lets gooooo Devin! I love the information you continue to share with us. Keep going my dude !!
I work in tech in the bay area. And companies like Apple over the years have only hired what they need for the long term. Never do layoffs. As long as you do what Devin mentioned, with only hiring what you need for the long term, you're good.
watching this a few months late, great content as always devin!!
On stream.
Hold up, a Cowboy Bebop reference? Top fave.
26:24 Interesting as always Devin.
Looking good BTW.
26.24, I'm still here, thank you Devin, really appreciate your perspective
26:24, still here. Devin Nash content is always top tier!
Another stellar Devin Nash video!
At the end Devin reffered to there only being a few creators who are successfully utilising multistreaming, who are these people and what is setting them apart?
26:24 Always love the Devin Nash uploads. Thank you so much.
26:24 I knew it was clickbait lmaoo but I enjoyed and really appreciate the section on the macro environment of livestreaming as a whole :)
Made it to the 26:24 🔥 good stuff as always. Can’t always watch the whole video in one sitting, but I always come back to finish.
Was waiting for you video on this, and as usual it's great to hear your perspective.
Why would i watch streams if i habe youtube and tiktok shorts i can get the highlights without all the pandering for subs, follows, donos
Still here and watching at 27 minutes! Thanks for your in depth analysis of these topics - I always enjoy listening to you speak!
i been following for like 2 years now and im always excited when you pop up on my feed. i really hope to see more of your content out there its nice to have someone filling us in with the corp jargon. theres always a mass hysteria with these things but never a good neutral facts are kind of content you either get doomsday or you get other more knee jerk reactions. thanks for your content and i hope things are going well ✌
26:24. Love your videos Devin!! Always keeps me informed on the current state of it all. Appreciate it always.
Keep up the work! I love having your videos playing on my second monitor while I get my own work done!
Still here, still watching, and I was here back in the day for the market adoption curv
26:24 great work my guy. Keep up the good work!
