Frankly, if RUclips decided to actually _try_ at making their streaming section more navigable and fleshed out instead of just occasionally bribing Twitch streamers to switch over, Twitch wouldn't stand a chance. Every year I witness Twitch sink deeper and it perplexes me why RUclips won't invest more time into improving their streaming interface.

Advertisers will want this and twitch has done it with their blessing. Advertisers can now go directly to twitch, the one stop shot, and twitch can now offer cheaper rates as they get a cut of everything. I'm no expert but I very much doubt these changes were made without consulting advertisers who collectively have the most clout in the social media space.

I've never been much of a twitch person over the last 10 years. But a friend of mine started streaming on Twitch. So i've been using the platform more so I can support her, good lord is the ad experience there miserable. I only had 1 blocker installed before Twitch, and it's worked fine making sure I'm not getting invasive ads all over the place. It *DOES NOT* work on Twitch, instead it just makes the site crash every 15 minutes. I've had to hunt down 3 other blocking extensions, all of which break at some point and have to be disabled until they get updated. It's a *miserable* experience and I have been discouraged from looking for new streamers on Twitch.
I’ve basically stopped using twitch in it’s entirety because unless I’m subbed I’m generally met with 2-6 minutes of ads just entering a stream. So raids etc are just a inconvenience to the viewer now. I join a raid and I get to see the streamer in a tiny box in the corner of my ads. Why sit through those ads when I can just watch any other service and have less to no ads? They’re killing smaller streamers chance of gaining an audience as well so they’re not even lucrative to streamers.

Somebody took those adorable voice lines (which were already a meme because of how freaking cute they were) and vocoded it over the Super Mario world ending theme, specifically the part that you hear in the "pet the X" memes. That video currently has 2.2 million views on RUclips. Guess where the video came from? Facebook. That's right, FACEBOOK spawned a viral meme for a popular gocha game. If you actually care about growing your audience, stream everywhere at once, RUclips, TikTok, kick, and yes, even Facebook.

I remember when RUclips went through policy hell in 2015-17 with demonitization and almost entirely banning swearing and people started moving to twitch once it started advertising it’s less strictness and now it’s the opposite twitch is being money hungry and streamers are moving to RUclips for near risk free streaming
I think the craziest part about this is that it doesn’t necessarily matter if they push this through or not - big creators that have their own ties to brands and their own networking are likely already planning exit strategy just because they even suggested this idea at all

This is informative, and unfortunate. I deleted my account one year ago. I missed out on tens of thousands of dollars as a result, but it was worth it to give the middle finger based on how badly they were treating loyal creators that spent a decade on the platform at the time. This feels validating, and hopefully more people do the same. I stand with destiny!
This is happening at the same time as Reddit cracking down on third party clients. Just plain old corporate greed ruining these platforms. Don't know if an alternative will become available.
The alternatives are already available. They've been for years. But people will still stay on Twitch, Reddit etc. because that's where the money and force of habit stays. People will stay on those sites even if those corporations send people to their house to break their kneecaps.

Not really. People who use 3rd party apps are in the minority. The problem is reddit is removing freedom to customize(which alot of people dont care about). And the possibility of more ads(imo what the majority is concerned about). Honestly i've tried other 3rd party apps and reddit is just easier to use. Ads are easy to scroll past and ignore anyway(unlike on youtube and other platforms). Twitch changes is much worse because it changes the whole way how streamers monetize. The most affected from the new rules are the biggest streamers, and their big fanbases aren't happy about it too.
It's crazy to think that Twitch used to be THE streaming giant but ever since other platforms have started really competing with them, twitch is just shooting themselves in the foot over and over again.
It's crazy how nearly 20 years later, RUclips is still the best platform for content creators despite all the terrible changes they make. It's even crazier how Amazon is so good at taking a successful business models and absolutely destroy it.
RUclips has only been allowed to stay competitive, despite diving headfirst into the shittiest decisions possible, because every rival that pops up is trying to speedrun those same bad decisions. Another AWFUL change they slipped under the rug was the ability to multi-stream for non partners/affiliates. If you want to stream on twitch in ANY capacity, you are bounded to that site and that site only. RUclips, Kick and Rumble do not have this policy, so now aspiring streamers have to choose between simultaneously streaming on 3 different platforms all on the upswing, or shackle themselves to Twitch as the boat hits iceberg after iceberg. The optimal career move is becoming more and more obvious and time goes on…

Some of Jerma's most amazing events were like completely dependent on 'burned in" ads, audio plugs for products, or skits dedicated to the brands making those things possible. Very sad such creativity cannot happen on Twitch with the new policy.
I've heard 'twitch is dead' so many times over the last couple of years, but this is the first time I thought, 'damn, I know plenty of creators that this will adversely effect'.
They'd be far more adversely affected if they left the platform.. Because doing that means you lose 80% of your viewers in the short term, and most won't come back. They have to rebuild a whole audience on RUclips, and the youtube audience is older and less emotionally clingy than the Twitch audience. Hardcore parasocial relationships are very profitable, and it's harder to get that going on youtube than on Twitch because there just aren't enough 13-18 year olds up in here. On youtube you're going to have to rely on whales, because there's not much of a tipping culture here. Twitch knows this, and they know that those who hop over to RUclips will earn WAY LESS than if they just hunker down and stay on Twitch. Welcome to exploitation. Literally what capitalism does. RUclips's userbase isn't mostly comprised of lonely mark children who are willing to spend their parents/part-time job income on a guy who they watch play video games. "Content creators" who feel entitled to constant flows of income for doing nothing need to suddenly come up with a way of actually being valuable in their own right.
Over the last day or two the group I am with has noticed that Twitch has silently made 6 different revisions in their ToS without publicly notifying folks each with varying adjustments as if they cannot decide on what they want to do. My friend legitimately went to have something for lunch and not even after that short amount of time did he press f5 to reload and they changed stuff in it again from what he's been keeping up with.

100% agree, It was inevitable unfortunatley, as soon as money is to be made then big corps will roll on through, the days of sweaty fighting game tournaments filmed with one camera looking at the screen with a bunch of nerds shouting and cheering are gone, the days of GDQ being a passion project are gone, games being released in their full and final form with no cash shops are gone, it goes on and on, i think even the next new thing that returns to it's roots will eventually fall because it will grow too big and the cycle begins anew.

It seems most companies now a days have gotten extremely greedy, Reddit, Twitter, Twitch, etc, are implementing new policies to gain extra revenue. They aren't satisfied with their billions of dollars they get, they want more and it's sad.
They announced this right after GDQ ended too. You can't run GDQ with these new rules; you need space for the couch, donation tracker, MSF/Prevent Cancer, the prizes, the sponsors at the bottom left. It's like they specifically waited until one of the biggest biannual events on Twitch ended to kick them out

Advertisers will want this and twitch has done it with their blessing. Advertisers can now go directly to twitch, the one stop shot, and twitch can now offer cheaper rates as they get a cut of everything.
I'm no expert but I very much doubt these changes were made without consulting advertisers who collectively have the most clout in the social media space.

I've never been much of a twitch person over the last 10 years. But a friend of mine started streaming on Twitch. So i've been using the platform more so I can support her, good lord is the ad experience there miserable. I only had 1 blocker installed before Twitch, and it's worked fine making sure I'm not getting invasive ads all over the place. It *DOES NOT* work on Twitch, instead it just makes the site crash every 15 minutes. I've had to hunt down 3 other blocking extensions, all of which break at some point and have to be disabled until they get updated. It's a *miserable* experience and I have been discouraged from looking for new streamers on Twitch.
I’ve basically stopped using twitch in it’s entirety because unless I’m subbed I’m generally met with 2-6 minutes of ads just entering a stream. So raids etc are just a inconvenience to the viewer now. I join a raid and I get to see the streamer in a tiny box in the corner of my ads. Why sit through those ads when I can just watch any other service and have less to no ads? They’re killing smaller streamers chance of gaining an audience as well so they’re not even lucrative to streamers.

What we're complaining about here isn't that we have to watch any ads at all during a stream. It's that Twitch is now trying to completely prohibit SPONSOR ads from playing, and only want their own ads to play.

Charlie will have absolutely no problem migrating to RUclips, he uploads RUclips videos twice a day, gets millions of views every week, and has a firmly established presence on this platform. If he can dodge RUclips's bullshit, and if the money's good, he will not skip a beat transitioning to RUclips. He already has a VOD channel, all he needs is a new layout, and he's good to go.

Now, these are very popular games with a lot of young people playing them, and one particular meme from Star rail was one of the characters Japanese attack voice lines "KURU KURU!" Somebody took those adorable voice lines (which were already a meme because of how freaking cute they were) and vocoded it over the Super Mario world ending theme, specifically the part that you hear in the "pet the X" memes. That video currently has 2.2 million views on RUclips. Guess where the video came from? Facebook. That's right, FACEBOOK spawned a viral meme for a popular gocha game. If you actually care about growing your audience, stream everywhere at once, RUclips, TikTok, kick, and yes, even Facebook.

I remember when RUclips went through policy hell in 2015-17 with demonitization and almost entirely banning swearing and people started moving to twitch once it started advertising it’s less strictness and now it’s the opposite twitch is being money hungry and streamers are moving to RUclips for near risk free streaming

It is genuinely insane to me how companies think tightening the leash for extra money is ever a good idea, these are the people who pay your bills. They would be absolutely nothing without their creators, yet they treat them like they are lucky to even go live. They should be on their knees, begging for advice, yet they are too diluted to ever ask for help.

I missed out on tens of thousands of dollars as a result, but it was worth it to give the middle finger based on how badly they were treating loyal creators that spent a decade on the platform at the time. Not really. People who use 3rd party apps are in the minority. The problem is reddit is removing freedom to customize(which alot of people dont care about). And the possibility of more ads(imo what the majority is concerned about). Honestly i've tried other 3rd party apps and reddit is just easier to use. Another AWFUL change they slipped under the rug was the ability to multi-stream for non partners/affiliates. If you want to stream on twitch in ANY capacity, you are bounded to that site and that site only.
RUclips, Kick and Rumble do not have this policy, so now aspiring streamers have to choose between simultaneously streaming on 3 different platforms all on the upswing, or shackle themselves to Twitch as the boat hits iceberg after iceberg. I've heard 'twitch is dead' so many times over the last couple of years, but this is the first time I thought, 'damn, I know plenty of creators that this will adversely effect'.
Isn't that like the last half a decade for the platform
They'd be far more adversely affected if they left the platform.. Because doing that means you lose 80% of your viewers in the short term, and most won't come back. They have to rebuild a whole audience on RUclips, and the youtube audience is older and less emotionally clingy than the Twitch audience. Hardcore parasocial relationships are very profitable, and it's harder to get that going on youtube than on Twitch because there just aren't enough 13-18 year olds up in here. On youtube you're going to have to rely on whales, because there's not much of a tipping culture here.
Twitch knows this, and they know that those who hop over to RUclips will earn WAY LESS than if they just hunker down and stay on Twitch.

Stock owners leave the second there's no more growth to find in a business. Twitch has to do this, because they need to grow or die... Capitalism.. Literally how it works. Investors don't keep their money in a dying platform. Twitch is trying to convince investors that there will be profits for them in the future by screwing over their workforce (streamers).
Exactly how all the firings every year works. Investors want to see drastic measures being taken, that means the platform owner is willing to take steps. These are the steps they're taking to appease the investors... That's how it be.

RUclips's userbase isn't mostly comprised of lonely mark children who are willing to spend their parents/part-time job income on a guy who they watch play video games. "Content creators" who feel entitled to constant flows of income for doing nothing need to suddenly come up with a way of actually being valuable in their own right.
Over the last day or two the group I am with has noticed that Twitch has silently made 6 different revisions in their ToS without publicly notifying folks each with varying adjustments as if they cannot decide on what they want to do. My friend legitimately went to have something for lunch and not even after that short amount of time did he press f5 to reload and they changed stuff in it again from what he's been keeping up with.
