  • In todays video we did coil overs on the front of our d21 and it is all done using the factory shock mounting points. We have a 600 pound spring with adjustable valve dampening from summit racing with the part numbers included in the video.

    Is the 600lb spring specific for the track?
    Would you recommend something less stiff for street driving?

    • @WhoopAzzRacing
      @WhoopAzzRacing  Год назад

      I would suggest a minimum of 600 lb spring as we had to remove the front sway bar in order to make all this fit 600 seems to be working fine but a 650 or 700 would have probably been a little bit better but if you're just doing Street driving 600 would be perfect as it is performing excellent on the track

    Not hating, but please gusset the upper mounts. The shock mounts were never meant to support what you're asking them to. I know you said you left the torsions, but I imagine you loosened them. I would plate the lower arms under the lower mounts also. Keep up the awesome build.

    • @WhoopAzzRacing
      @WhoopAzzRacing  2 года назад +1

      Thanks man I appreciate the concern however in my personal opinion having seen several of the other coil over conversions and the type of metals they used for the new mounting points I am confident it will hold just fine they over built these trucks that upper mount is actually pretty thick steel but we will find out I guess. Because I am not doing any of that unless absolutely needed and thank you for your input and concern I will let you know how it goes if you would like

    • @jasonlovell9639
      @jasonlovell9639 2 года назад +1

      Definitely agrees I drift a d21/ autocross and both the shock mounts snapped on just stock suspension and shocks no coil springs I was like wtf so I couldn't image what it'd do with even more stress

    • @WhoopAzzRacing
      @WhoopAzzRacing  2 года назад +1

      @@jasonlovell9639 first autocross down so far so good. So I got to ask how did you break the upper shock mounts big pot hole or something? I do not doubt your word I'm just having a hard time imagining the suspension collapsing so much that the shock would bottom out and be able to snap that mount off our rims and tires hit the top of the inner fender well before the shock is even close to bottoming out fully. And to be perfectly honest I have no idea whether this will hold long-term or not it is an experiment but I will say we have been driving the truck on the street for a couple hundred miles and through its first autocross event last weekend I took videos I will post up of the suspension articulating during the race and no point do I see the top mount flex in any way so far so good

    • @RealityUntold
      @RealityUntold Год назад +1

      @@WhoopAzzRacing I can confirm that other people have broken the upper shock mount as well without modified suspension. I have a direct chat with Jacob with RhodeFab who specifically builds these trucks. I threw the same idea at him that you are doing and he advised not to do it for safety. I'd be happy to send that to you. For safety, it would only take an hour at most to fab up some gussets and weld them into place on top of that shock tower. One hour at the cost of lives? Doesn't seem to even need thought.

    • @WhoopAzzRacing
      @WhoopAzzRacing  Год назад +2

      @@RealityUntold I appreciate the concern and once again I strongly disagree as the only way possible to possibly to break the upper shock mounts would be to have their suspension fully relaxed to the point to where the shocks are basically riding solid bottomed out and I have looked at many of the people that have done the different modifications and things and to be perfectly honest the steel they are using is not as thick as the steel that came from the factory we have now done multiple autocross sessions and driving on the street and have zero issues and is functioning perfectly please go check out the videos of the last two autocross sessions where I videotape solely from inside of the wheel well where you can watch all of the suspension articulate and you will see there is absolutely no flex or movement in any way shape or form at the top or bottom mount and as I am not selling any kind of a product or kit in any way and do not benefit from anybody choosing my way over this other person's way of doing things which they do actually have a vested interest in people wanting to buy their kit I would probably want to dispel any other cheaper easier setup as dangerous and as being a technician for over 30 years a Virginia state inspector for over 30 years and somebody who's been racing for about 25 years and always had to do all of his own work I'm going to go with what I think.
