I have a 1997 D21 hardbody kingcab with 208k on the od. The last year built. I Drive it to work daily. I had a 1994 regular cab also. Sold it to a friend that needed a vehicle in 2004. He still has it. The trucks were designed at the Nissan headquarters in San Diego ca. and built in Tennessee.
i had a 1991 nissan d21 4x4 short wheel base regular cab 4 cyl 5speed. on 235/75/15 all terrain tires and factory suspension that thing was an absolute unit off road and in mud. its kryptonite was grass and snow though because it could not get traction on those. that thing was a fantastic truck

Three pedal IS the way to go in my opinion .Ive always loved the rectangular theme of the dash! Beautiful truck! If memory serves the advertising for this truck was very "Beach themed" hence the "Hardbody" name. At least that's the way I remember it.Amazing!
Great video. Great Truck. I have a 1987 D21 SE V6 with the VG30i that I bought brand new in Boulder Nissan, "Colorado" ($12,264.00) and have had the greatest experience with it. Best damned vehicle I've ever owned. Has never left me high and dry. (I'm 62 BTW) I also will never part with it. I'm gonna hand it over to my only daughter as she spent many a mile in the back jump seats and I taught her how to drive a "stick shift" in it. (she became known as "5 speed Annie" at her high school) At 18:20... (the steering wheel pop up...) Its called "jump mode" so you can enter and exit the truck easily. Thanks for sharing.
Nice to see a fellow d21 owner not willing to part with his truck. I have a 1997 that I've owned for 25 years still use it for fishing. Has a homemade aluminum cab over for camping. Also own a 2001 frontier and a 2002 supercharged 4x4 external. Love all three
I put a bigger radiator in it for Texas summers and a/c running but other than that just tune ups, oil changes, and belts and hoses every few years other than that I've done nothing to it. Never had the 4 cyl cracked open
Love your truck! I was a teenager when Nissan brought out this model, and I thought it was the best looking truck ever! I still remember staring at the magazine ad showing a silver 4x4 Hardbody with a roll bar. I wanted one so bad!
I have a 1995 v6 5 speed 4x4 Hardbody she's black :) extended cab lsd rear end i have owned it since spring of 2006. Its the first truck i have ever owned and the only of course its still in pretty good condition its been outside all of its life and i haven't found any rust yet. I have never took it out in the woods and beat on it or nothing just driven in the snow and slick roads and highway they are wonderful trucks! I bought it from a woman it originally had 53k on it in 2006 i had just got home from Iraq.
They still build good vehicles in the suv and truck range but taking about rock solid builds the Oder D21 hard bodies and Tacoma’s and even ford and Chevy has a build quality and parts quality that’s hasn’t been seen for quite some time. I have a 2011 Toyota 4Runner limited 4wd and it’s been rock solid but still it doesn’t have the same quality and nostalgia that the older ones does unfortunately.
We have these trucks in our office. Its a TD27 engine... Already passed 500,000kms (310,000 miles).. still running. It was abused since its an office use for errands and deliveries.
I think 18 k is about right!! At that time. I bought a brand new 1987 xe 4x4 Long bed hard body for 13 k.. mine was 4 cylinder single cab no power window nothing fancy. I think your dad got a great deal 👍

I still have my 86.5 Hardbody bought brand new Feb 86 $7000 still runs over 400,000 miles hard to get parts for them specially the Z21 engine only used them for 2 years so limited supply
@jeanclaude7018 awesome to hear, yeah basic parts can be found but something like fuel pressure regulator or injectors are non existence, luckily I was able to rebuild the fuel injectors and rewire them, and managed to install an adjustable fuel pressure regulator bypassing the factory one, sure wish the automakers would start making little trucks again I have no use for a $60,000 or more full size gas guzzlers ridiculous
@jeanclaude7018 I would be first in line for a small truck hopefully auto makers will realize they have reached the limit of what consumers will pay To wire the injector trace the wires from top of injector back to the wiring harness and unplug the two half’s, injector A will have white wire and green wire with white being the plus + green minus - injector B red wire and lavender wire with red being plus+ lavender minus - you can either disconnect the pins to the wires inside the harness or just splice new wire onto section leading into the harness just keep tract of where each wire goes I bought a injector kit off E bay only a few bucks it’s two rubber seals one small one large and a screen, then used a 9 volt battery like you use in smoke detector to operate the injector while spraying carb cleaner through them this way don’t worry about overheating them while cleaning
@@jenbillhi can I ask you what are the benefits of upgrading to an adjustable pressure regulator. My truck can’t go pass 3k rpm since I bought it 3 years ago I already fixed other things on this truck except for this limp mode used I did my research online and everything is pointing to tbi. I found one at a wrecking yard and I’m going to try to rebuild it and also I was thinking to do the same and add an adjustable pressure regulator while I take everything apart see if that will fix the problem, I did swap the 2 tbi and they do the same thing it won’t go pass 3k rpm .
@@lofadem Hi Pal, actually there’s no real benefit using a adjustable fuel pressure regulator, but when the factory regulator stopped working and started dumping to much fuel was no other option, finding an OEM replacement for this model next to impossible, I would suspect the problem you’re having is a fast idle solenoid or sensor issue of some kind hope this helps.
I have the Pathfinder. the steering column has a "jumpseat function" that pops the steering wheel up to "semi-mode" so that the driver can get out in case of emergencies.
I owned my first one in 2019, ka24 manual 4x4. Love it! But it was a little unreliable becoming it was an old farm truck and i didnt have the money to fix it. Swapped it for a little reliable mazda to get to and from work. But i missed that truck ever since then. I started looking for another one but i found out they were quite rare in western australia. I finally found a 2.7 diesel 4x4 in reallt good condition. I bought it straight away and bought $5k worth of parts to bring it completely back to life. Its running super good now. Turbo going on it soon 😎 i love this truck. I love seeing how much other people love them also
Thanks for showing your pristine pickup! I think the harder ride you get also equates to serious carrying capacity so it's a bit of a trade off. My old "87 4 cyl with automatic has no problem with a 2500lb load whereas a few of the Era Toyotas of the I've owned were happier with 1000 lbs lighter load which also went along with a softer ride!😊
I drive a 5/86 Kyushu built LHD D21 kingcab 2wd Z24I electro-injection with forklift timing components in the summer and a 1988 WD21 SE-V6 with VG30I also Kyushu Japan import during the winter. Anyone know how many pre 86.5 D21 Hardbody were built in Japan and where they went? Because this is the only one I have seen made in Japan. I have a short up of the door tag. Thanks and great video.
Had a '93 reg cab shortbed 4 cyl 5 speed 4x4 on 31" tires, in that same color. Wish I had never sold it. Daily drove it 150 miles a day even though it was 20 years old, no problems
How many mikes does it have , it doesn’t look like a heck of a lot but sometimes you never know. I’ve seen vehicles th at ts mint with over 209k which is nuts. Also I wanted to ask where are you located bc man them mountainous views are absolutely stunning. It’s my dream to be able to relocate to an area like that so my boys will get to enjoy a bit of a different experience than northern Alabama which doesn’t have much to offer to be honest.
I had my '89 Hardbody for 26 years. Kept it in great condition. My wife talked me into "selling" it to my brother-in-law. He trashed it within 6 months, and when I went back to Oregon earlier this year, it was totally destroyed. Made me sick...
Not only is it the Best Bang for your buck truck, But really,, the Truth is that the D21 looks Better than any of the older or newer Toyota's & the Reliability is Unmatched,, although the 4banger manual version was the bread n butter combo for this truck! It is more Rare to be seen on the road in a D21 than you're everybody & your mother's mother drives one toyota. Sorry yoda boys but toyota's were & are Not the Best small trucks, it is by Far the Nissan D21. Proud owner-1994 regular cab matching camper shell, manual, 4X4, 4cyl in almost mint condition interior/exterior. Paid $5,000 in 2020 & will No Longer drive it during winter months Because there is very minimal surface frame rust which I could probably sand paper it off it's so light.
My brother had back-to-back, 80s Nissan pickup trucks very similiar/identical to yours. His first one was the same as yours (including color) and was an '85 (I think) but it was a 4-cylinder engine. Because he found that to be under powered, he upgraded to the same exact Hardbody as yours in 1989. He/we loved that truck, both our favorite vehicle after all these years. For many years I owned a 2003 Nissan, 4x4, king cab Frontier, also a fantastic truck. My only (minor) complaint is that the front end design, and the wheel opening trim was ugly compared to the Hardbody. Functionally, just as good as a Hardbody, just less attractive.

I own the 2000 Nissan Navara D22 DX ute KA24DE 2389cc with over 235K and keeping up with the general maintenance, The motor hasn't missed a beat, I also have an old painter mate who has a 99 model with over 900k and the only part he has had change on the motor was the alternator.. And yeah you are right about the rust and the weather, Buy yourself a can of Heavy Duty fish oil and spray everything down it works wonders.. Love your car by the way..👍
Holy shlt I had no idea they were interference engines... ugghhhhhh We've got a 98 Nissan Frontier. How the H377 do you know when to change the timing belt? My dad's been dead for years and it was his truck. I have a Ford Escort as permanent yard art because it had an interference engine and made lots of crunchy popcorn bits in it one day while driving home. I put a new head and valves on it, only to find, one of the piston rods had broke and only 3 cylinders were firing. Great. Just great.

Absolutely an awesome daily, do preventative maintence, valve adjustments , oil changes and it will treat you so well

I own the 2000 Nissan Navara D22 DX ute KA24DE 2389cc with over 235K and keeping up with the general maintenance, The motor hasn't missed a beat, I also have an old painter mate who has a 99 model with over 900k and the only part he has had change on the motor was the alternator.. And yeah you are right about the rust and the weather, Buy yourself a can of Heavy Duty fish oil and spray everything down it works wonders.. Love your car by the way..👍
Holy shlt I had no idea they were interference engines... ugghhhhhh We've got a 98 Nissan Frontier. How the H377 do you know when to change the timing belt? My dad's been dead for years and it was his truck.
I have a Ford Escort as permanent yard art because it had an interference engine and made lots of crunchy popcorn bits in it one day while driving home. I put a new head and valves on it, only to find, one of the piston rods had broke and only 3 cylinders were firing. Great. Just great.
Rule of thumb is old belts 60k. New belt is good for 100k
