  • My review of the Canon C70 after 1 year of use.
    I realize after uploading that I did not touch on lowlight performance. I have no complaints on lowlight performance. The DGO sensor really helps push the image in lowlight situations as seen in most of the concert footage that I have in this video.
    Thanks for watching!

    To be honest it's just a better and more complete pro version of komodo. In my personal experience, c70 can basically do everything komodo can with way better user experience and operation interface, no need to rig up anything, you already got all you need for most of the pro work that already packed inside c70 which you need to spend a lot more extra cash and add more weight and size and complx with komodo. And let's talk about the DGO sensor, my gosh, the low noise in dark is just belows my fx6 fx3 away. Komodo is not even at the same level when talk about noise. And if people asking about colour, raw, etc, Come on, please dont live in 5~8 years ago, if you use pro equipment, you should be able to match any camera to another camera easily, maybe not 100% , but really acceptable. And the log is powerful enough, if you really mess up your shooting that beyond the capability of clog2, then the image probably wont look good at red raw anyways .

      Well said! It’s nice to hear the comparison from your FX6 and FX3 because I have yet to try them out side by side.
      I’m very excited for the newest firmware update coming next month. They made this camera even better… again!

      I bought my c70 as a support/gimbal cam - and my only regret has been the lack of Sony level auto focus on the run and gun/solo projects. That said, the firmware updates Canon has done for the c70 is unheard of - across the board probably the best result from the pandemic/chip shortages! Very interested in what they’ll do for a mk2 now, and after this next update there’s not much left on the table for this price point.
      You can fix almost every focus issue by investing in Ronin’s LiDAR RS system by the way, for solo work its amazing, accurate, and opens up a ton of manual lens possibilities!

    Just bought this in 2024, still the best option in the price range IMO. The obsession with full frame and 8k is bizarre. The new Alexa which is now being used on tons of hollywood productions is S35 with a 4k sensor.

    Unless I’m misunderstanding what you’re needing, you can output a clean feed over HDMI while your internal/LCD still displays all your info. In Menu> Monitoring Setup> OSD Output: HDMI - turn it off. I also have this mapped to button #6 (zebra) so that I can quickly toggle on/off the OSD over HDMI.

    • @JordanPulmano
      @JordanPulmano  Год назад +2

      I was definitely vague and didn’t expand on the specific situation I meant.
      That is what I usually do! But sometimes I have the camera rigged where I don’t use the internal LCD and only use an external so I like to have my OSD on it.
      Thanks for the tip on mapping a button for it! That’s going to come in handy.

    Had a glance at some of those concert clips in "Low Light" and they look fantastic! I've been looking around online and a general consensus seems to be to shoot in CLOG3 as it doesn't have as much highlight detail retention and therefor more forgiving shadow details. Could you maybe comment on your lowlight shooting set-up in CLOG2? Had had some troubles with it on a previous project and just curious to see how you get your results! :) thanks

      18-35 & 50-100 are my go to lenses whenever I’m using MF because they do tend to struggle more! Especially when they are wide open.

      I dig the 24-105 f4 with the speed booster. Shot several higher end client spots with that setup and it was cheap to start out with! Recently I’ve been switching out to the DZO’s 35 though, it’s changed how I shoot for the better :)

  • @baekmedier

    When comparing my C70 with my R5C the picture looks really soft (I always end up putting some sharpness on the footage in post)
    But then again.. R5C is 8K downsampled so 4k 😅
    The fact that it is a crop sensor bothers me. Thats the reason why i bought that crazy expensive speedbooster.. but then you can’t get the sharper RF lenses that potential would help on the softer image.. 😅
    Anyways.. great video 🤟 and i agree that it is a great camera.

    Just stumbled across this video! I film weddings and even with the firmware update I still struggle with autofocus once I go past 1600 ISO. Do you have any recommendations to combat that setting wise? Is it something you think could be fixed with a lower aperture lens?

    • @JordanPulmano
      @JordanPulmano  Год назад +1

      It’s a bit of a balancing act. A faster lens will let in light but the wider your lens opened up to, the shorter your focus plane will be so focusing is actually more difficult.
      The c70 AF is awesome for what it is but it definitely can’t keep up with the mirrorless cameras.
      Do you use eye autofocus? I’ve found that to be way better!

    • @juliacornish2119
      @juliacornish2119 Год назад

      @@JordanPulmano Yes I do use the eye detecting autofocus! I'm gonna keep working with it and see what I can do, but honestly sometimes I find the autofocus on my EOS R to be better in lowlight, but then i'm battling noise. Can't have everything I guess! Thanks for the help!

      When you run through 45 minutes of
      shooting talking head for a RUclips video, sometimes the juice isn’t worth the squeeze and I’d rather put the info out there even if it was a little soft 😂

      It’s a Super35 sensor which is much more common in the cinema camera world. I’ve spent most of my career shooting S35 (aside from full frame mirrorless cameras) so it’s nothing out of the ordinary for me!
