To be honest the BMPCC line was never meant to be compete with the high end video cameras, it's a cinema camera after all, it requires everything else from the preproduction to the controls of the production and then post-production in the pipeline to shine its spots which were designed for, it combines more features to the portability but it's not supposed to be used as a run and gun style of camera, it's a budget and the best (and almost only) option for an indie filmmaker who has higher expectation to their work.
Exactly, I wouldn’t call the canon c70 high end, but either way comparing an actual Cinematic camera to something like the c70 is ridiculous, if you’re a RUclipsr obvious the c70 is the camera you should get,
Got the pocket 6K and haven’t looked back. Such a fun and great camera. Couple of misconceptions though is that you don’t have to rig this thing to death. Out of the box with a memory card, it works. Swapping batteries doesn’t mean it doesn’t work out the box. Buy a Red. That’s an example of not being ready out of the box. I also understood that as a cinema camera it was going to be for me to use with my v mount batteries and modular to my liking. Got two more of those baddies because they work and do exactly what I want. C70 is great and simply amazing but didn’t give a justification for the price tag. I don’t need autofocus, ibis, internal NDs and all those things. I kinda wanted a manual vs automatic for control if that makes sense. Haha!
It is a great camera! Actually shooting on it right now for a shoot I’m on and loving it. The C70 just met the needs for a higher percentage of shoots I am currently doing. Funny enough, I use manual focus on my C70 more than auto because I run a lot of cine glass on it haha
Ultimately that's what $3000 extra pricetag gets you. more refined, convenient features. I am glad there is a $2500 option though with this level of image quality!
I may go ahead and grab the c70. I have the original 6k but haven’t used it much since getting the Z cam F6. The quality seems pretty similar and the main differences seem to be AF with canon. I’m looking for a simple setup I can use when I don’t want to rig my camera so I’ve been on either the 6k pro or the c70. Run and gun, interviews and concert recaps so the c70 seems to be the pick although canon is def charging a premium lol. If I go 6k pro, I’ll just add the battery adapter that gives you 3 batteries to solve the performance issues.
I can confidently tell you after a year of owning the C70, I would never go back to blackmagic. The C70 has been the most well rounded camera that I have owned!
@@JordanPulmano sheesh lol, black magic still has the value aspect on lock but im definitely getting this with a purpose. I came from the 5d3 error and also on a EOS R for photography so the c70 it is.
C70 has more conveninece and is more refined (apart for that crappy small fragile single display), but as image quality BM to me wins hands down. I guess it's possible to work on the 10bit files of the Canon to make them more appealing, but on the Bmppc is so much easier to have great, rich skin tones. Pity for the BM the short battery life without rigging it and the exaggerated rolling shutter and crop at 120p. For the rest, as a cost effective Cinema camera, is hard to beat.
I didn’t notice any weird tint on this one, but I did notice a little tint on the NDs which I think may be a firmware update fix? But definitely not as consistent looking as the NDs on the C70
I just bought a bmpcc 6k pro and I really thought I was ready but man it has been a mixed bag. No matter how I rig this camera it always feels incomplete or lacking in some way. The image quality is AMAZING but getting used to the shifting dynamic range with ISO is kinda ruff with some of the things I shoot. I’m used to cameras like canon and Sony that just work out of the box so this has really been hard to get used to. Also, the IR pollution even with the new internal ND’s is FAR from acceptable. It still requires IR reduction and that’s just one more thing to have to buy for this camera because not all IR filters are created equal so you can’t skimp in this department. You have to buy the good stuff. I’ve seen some people buy cheaper IR filters and test them on the bp6k pro but they only work in limited scenarios and have horrible flaring/contrast reduction in almost any scenario except cloudy days. I bought the bp6k pro because I didn’t want to have to use a matte box all the time for IR reduction and ND. If I still require multiple filters or a matte box then I mind as well buy the bp6k and not the pro. Sometimes I feel like there is far too much to think about with the bp6k pro. It’s really just a sensor in a box lol. And for some people that’s cool. Could I get used to these short comings? Yes I think so. But If I do get out of this camera I’m going for the c70.
You totally nailed it. They give us an incredible image, but it doesn't come without some added work to make it easy! I gotta say, 6 months later I am still loving the C70 and am happy with my decision.
Great video bro! I was just about to do a camera comparison for both of these cameras on my channel. But you did such a good job I don't think I need to haha
Thank you so much! I’d love to see your take on it! Everyone has different needs for their cameras so I think your take would be just as valuable for someone.
As to which camera you should get really depends on what you’re using it for, if it’s just for something like RUclips videos then you really should be getting anywhere near a Cinematic camera no matter how affordable it is,
Ive got Canon and the bmpcc6k. Hands down the bmp is better to just grab and go. Mines in a pelican case and within 5 minutes I have a full setup with about 15 hrs of battery life. Granted Im comparing that to an r series camera. Also, braw is the absolute JAM.
Thanks for the review! I did rent the C70 before buying since I couldn't find a place that would allow returns. I already had RF lenses so I didn't consider the Black Magic. Thanks!
Great video and amazing channel. I’m sceptical on the c70 14/16 stops of dynamic range. Real world test show it’s only 13. I only believe Arri then blackmagic is a close second everyone else Red included is lying about DR. If I had the budget I’d buy a c70 but since I don’t it looks like I’ll go with blackmagic.
I don’t know much about the c70 but if it’s not recording in raw then there might be some de-noise processing in camera. Raw files intrinsically have more noise. What fluid head are you using?
C70 processes the image in-camera with a dual ADC to maximize SNR, meanwhile the BM only records the RAW image (somewhat as BRAW is special form of RAW). So the C70 will always show less noise because of the dedicated processing, while the noise in the final output from braw post-processing is up to the user (the noise reduction tool in DaVinci works wonders with braw files). So really it’s two different worlds on that level… :)
The one thing I think I’d miss is the Blackmagic big bright screen, especially straight on a gimbal. A great screen is what I include in out of the box usability and its something a lot of cameras are missing 😂
Renting equipment is one of the best options, great video and a very good comparison of these two incredible cameras, a question is the text animation you use during the video bought on any website? If so, could you tell me where, greetings from Spain!
Currently sitting with it as I just wrapped a documentary I shot on it and I still absolutely love it! No regrets. It has some quirks as does every camera, but I am very happy with my decision!
