Half in the Bag: The Matrix Resurrections

  • Mike and Jay take a little break from tracking down the Omega variant infested Mr. Plinkett to talk about an important contribution to cinema: The Matrix: Resurrections. This episode also marks an important milestone. It's the first time Mike only drank one beer instead of 5 or more. His dementia is in full swing though. Watch this elderly fat ass try to form coherent sentences is like watching a manatee jump rope. Jay does a pretty good job talking about the movie though.

I believe all of the Neos on the TV screens were representations of all the possible reactions the Architect predicted Neo might have in response to what he was being told.
I presume all of the past "Ones" were different individuals in every sense, having no direct connection to one another. It's implied that the cycle of the Prime Program (Neo) and resetting of the Matrix has been going on for centuries, being that the Architect says this will have been the sixth time they've done it.. So when you see the desolation and ruins of the real world, you're seeing what the Earth hundreds and hundreds of years after the war between the humans and machines ended... And while I'm not entirely sure of this, I think it's implied somewhere within the lore (but not in movies) that it's actually even further into the future than people like Morpheus think. And that's because he's not aware of all the other cycles of the destruction of Zion and resetting of the Matrix.

In the original Matrix trilogy the concept was that Neo gets reincarnated every so so often, that the Matrix is aware of him and encountered him several times and ultimately the same deal is struck where he gets to save X number of free humans whom the robots will not kill in exchange for his death/surrender and the death/surrender of the excess free humans... The program "agent smith" however threatens the matrix by taking over all of the other programs and integrated humans essentially threatening the robots much like a computer virus which would ultimately also threaten the humans that are outside the matrix as well... so a new deal is struck where the Robots allow all the humans in zion to live (not be exterminated down to a set number) in exchange for Neo's aid in destroying Agent smith... which he does through his sacrifice.
The Robots have every reason to restore, protect, etc Neo and Trinity so long as they remain "asleep" within the matrix as they are useful in maintaining the balance between the robots and humans while ALSO being a sort of Anti virus (or perhaps more accurately a software engineer/tech/hacker) whom can help clean up dangerous rogue agents in the system. (specifically Trinity is the one who can find and awaken the "engineer" (neo) which is why she is important... similar to the Dalai lama and Panchen Lama in Tibetan Buddhism)
Essentially to the Robots they are both valued as a sort of emergency plan / balance maintaining force that can act against them but ultimately to their greater benefit.

Morpheus talks about the one who freed the humans, who was another One. The Architect himself talks about the cycles, everyone who reaches him in those cycles was also a One.
EU stuff explains this more explicitly with what a One is and how their powers manifest but even in the movies its pretty explicit that it's a title and a power, not a person, the Matrix is all about blending mystical and science fiction concepts and this is just another example. The humans see The One as a god figure and prophet but in the machine's perception he's just a reoccurring anomaly in the matrix's programming.

The biggest surprise of this movie was successfully convincing Keanu to shave his face and cut his hair short.

They spent all the money on CG to remove his beard and long hair, but learned from Zack Snyders failure in JL. Thats why the movie costs a zillion dollars but looks like an HBO max series.

It's perfectly clear that the only reason this was made it's because Warner Brothers went to the wachowski's and said we're making a sequel with or without you and Lana decided that if anyone's going to screw up The matrix sequels it would be her. The entire thing is very tongue in cheek very satirical very on the nose. But it's also clear that the wachowski's didn't want a sequel for The matrix at all, least of all of fourth one. It's a shame that creators can't keep creative control over the things they create.

Missed opportunity to have Rich Evans do a cover of a Rage song at the end of the video.
