They only look at you weird because they are only used to seeing the "rugged" you. They just need to be reminded that every now and again, you should have some fun and sparkle if you want to! 😊
There is a weaving trick that would help you with your sparkle yarn. The DIY version involves parchment paper and an empty toilet paper or paper towel tube. You wind your yarn onto the tube while sandwiching parchment paper between the layers.
I hope you wear your sweater all the time! It makes me so happy to see people out and about with their favorite, fun, sparkly, (insert all the adjectives) wearables!
I have never wanted a sweater so bad in my life! The colors and the sparkle are amazing. I can't wait to see the end product. Just like you said, it's 2024 and as another man I would wear that everyday
I have crocheted since I was 13, too long ago to mention, but you REALLY make me want to knit. You make it look so easy, but I KNOW it takes years to get that good.
Love the sparkle sweater! Who cares what other people think, you be you! I’m working in a crochet throw for my mom’s birthday and will be bringing it with me on my camping trip. Tubing has always sounded like a nightmare to me!
Enjoy watching your channel and listening to your soothing voice. I haven’t knitted since I was a child. My grandmother taught me to knit slippers. Then she taught me crochet and I never turned back. I stick to smaller projects in the hot Kentucky summers. This year it’s mostly bags.
I had the opportunity to look at some upcoming color trends at one of the LYS here. You are spot on with trends. Glitter is going to be everywhere. So wear it proudly!
First, I like this fit on you. 👏 second, I am dying at reliving this story. I feel like we definitely only had 2 tubes and I laid across you when mine popped. “Which I don’t think was Teresa’s favorite part” 😂😂 dead. Ugh we should’ve told this story when we are together! Hahah
Hi Mark! I really love your “story time” and the moth game prompts are so fun! Thanks for sharing that story 😊. I have taken tube rafting trips before, mostly with my sons when they were small. We once also had trip where it was more porting the tubes than being in the water. Once we even had to climb over a log that had fallen completely across the river and my older son, only 8 at the time, had to help me lift 3 tubes and his younger brothers across. I’m not sure he thought the trip was that fun. 😮 I do like to try and make a summer item in the summer. However, I’m a slow knitter and usually don’t have much time, so for example this year I finished a summer top which I hadn’t finished last year. I’m now trying a linen yarn for the first time and making the Sunset Camisole by Sari Nordland. I think the sparkle sweater is perfect! It could look cool as a summer sweater over a tank top … and then actually very festive and elegant over a dark shirt for the holidays. I do hope you might share a finished photo of how you style it, that would be fun! I really enjoyed starting my day with you! I’ve recently moved back to the US from Europe and don’t have a schedule- still looking for a job, getting my state license, etc. It’s all taking more time than I anticipated but this does give me time to knit, watch fireflies, start a little garden…. It’s an interesting mix of peaceful and slightly anxious 😬. Happy knitting!
Hi, Mark, your Sparkle sweater is lovely! Arbutus (pronounced aar-BYOO-tuhs) trees have the most beautiful bark, and are common in British Columbia where Sweet Georgia is based. They are one of my favorite trees. ~Brenda
I love the glimmer and sparkle of the sweater! Makes me wish I didn't have the sensory issues I do so that I could wear something made with that type of a runner yarn. I really enjoy having your videos consistently to sit down with my own projects and just relax for a moment. During this video I've worked on a balaclava with a yarn that has a metallic shine to it. Previous couple of videos I've been using as body doubling for a raglan with Skeletor's face from He-man for my partner which I just yesterday finished and got steamed!
I really like the color of your sweater! As a teacher, I am out for the summer and am currently working on a pair of socks and a baby sweater for a coworker who is going to be a grandmother.
You do you boo, sparkle or not, no matter the year! My side of the conversation usually is telling you to be you, and no apologizing! You’re fantastic, and creative, talented; nothing to apologize for! BTWs, it was so nice to meet your mom, I hope your friend agrees to come on your channel. Also BTWs I did not see a stain, or hear a creak in the floor. Love the retro magazine!
I for one am very glad there are machine knit sweaters for children! They keep growing and I don't knit fast enough to keep up! Most of my summer weather knitwear are socks. Cotton blends, mostly.
I love the sparkle of your sweater!! Can’t wait to see the finished product! 💙😀 I currently am working on my second pair of knitted socks (ever) at Panera ….great place to sit, people watch & knit 🧶. I loved hearing your story of you and your friend out tubing. Reminds me of my husband and I a few years back he is very much that outdoorsy sort of person he and he loves to mountain bike. I can barely ride a bike, but thought I would go out with him and learn how to ride the trails. We went. He stayed with me on the trails as it was very much out of my skill zone and that my comfort zone but I went on nonetheless. While out it started getting darker and darker than the rain came then the pouring down. Can’t see ahead of you sort of rain. The only thing we could do was keep on going to that to the end of the trail. It was muddy soaking to the bones again you could barely see trying to ride a bike. I ended up walking my bike, which seemed like 1000 miles but reality it probably was only half a mile if that, but it was a good time bonding and now we have something to talk about!!!😂
I guess I'm the tie dyed odd sheep out, because I started knitting for the summer in about March or April, because I wanted to have a variety of knits to pick from.
I'm also working on a sweater with fingering weight yarn. It's a summer sweater crocheted in an open mesh design with a twisted stitch. I acquired the yarn by unraveling a factory-made cotton cardigan from the thrift store and hand winding it into a center pull ball. Pretty excited to see how it comes together!
Sparkles are not for me but for you, but why not? Love the river story, you don't mention bugs. Here in Minnesota if that happened you would be eaten alive by mosquitoes and deer flies! I am working on socks and a hat. As a new knitter, that is all I have tried yet. Looking forward to sweaters! Enjoyable episode as always
Hi, I can't wait to see the finished sweater it's going to look great on you. I think I have a similar sparkly yarn that came in a mystery box .I didn't know whT to do with if. I'm crocheting a Somebunny. I have the legs (4) and one of the ears done. It's made with vintage acrylic yarn. The type that was horrible to wear because it was scratchy. It was gifted to me by a lady who saw me crocheting in a restaurant and she happened to have all this yarn from her mother who passed away and she was going to donate at the local thrift store. She really wanted to give it to someone who would use it,so she asked me if I wanted it. That is how I ended up with all this vintage yarn. It was interesting to see how much yarn has changed. Some skeins don't have the information on the band we now have as far as yarn weight or yardage. Some come from stores that no longer exist and haven't existed for some 40 years or so some have the regular price of like 99 cents a ball. It is really nostalgic to look at and use this yarn it reminded me of my childhood. Learning to knit and crochet with this yarn. This was the yarn for my projects as a child and teenager my mom's projects were made with better softer less scratchy yarn. I'm glad yarn has changed for the better even though the prices have gone up considerably.
That’s it. I’m never going tubing. 😂 But, what an adventure to talk about in later years. I don’t generally like sparkle yarns but I do like the fabric you’re making and think the sweater will look great on you. Wear it anytime you’re in the mood for it. Something I was told years ago is that you can wear anything when you wear it with “attitude”. I once worked in a yarn store where we had to try to keep those sequined and other slippery novelty yarns neatly displayed even after customers handled them. Aargh!
Love the sparkle sweater it WILL be so festive at holiday's!! Thank you for sharing. I have a lousy River story for you - I was in High school on a white water rafting trip on the Lehigh river in PA. Buses shuttled students from resort to River in groups. The activity person 'suggested' we only wear the provided wet suit, I am one who follow instructions, and so got down to my skivvies and put on the suit. Other kids, mostly girls kept clothes underneath. My bag of dry clothes went back onto the bus. We have our river adventure in which I was scared to death on rapids. Near frozen due to March temps. My poor hands felt like they had frostbite and were shape of holding the orr and hurt so badly. We finally returned to drop off point and everyone turns in their suits and orrs and leaves. I am left in changing room with no bag of dry clothes and no bus in sight and alone. I huddle myself in front of a tiny space heater sitting all alone waiting for other bus to return which has my bag on it. Eventually it did but my 'friends' had left on other bus. My experience was not great, felt abandoned and misguided. And that was pretty much the entire trip even at the nice resort, as teens girls are often so caddy. I often was the outcast and didn't have a specific GF to pal around with. Still today I am a loner. However the MAKER world has been fantastic and have found many like minded individuals and clubs to be a part of 😊
Loved your tubing story! (Kept thinking "Deliverance" - AAACCKKK) What an experience. I knit whatever I want all year round. I'm currently knitting an afghan because I'm stubborn. I don't like these endless projects much but I need a new afghan for the couch. (A 30 y/o acrylic one doesn't cut it anymore in my book.) I just refuse to buy one when I can make one!
Hi Mark! I love the sweater, and I also understand that the sequins could be so annoying to work with. I’m sure it will feel worth it when you’re done! I am working on the Lauder Cardigan and loving it:) and in terms of summer knits, I just finished a ranunculus made out of knitting for olive pure silk held double. I love how it turned out!
I enjoyed your story of ruffing it. I had a similar situation but we were in canoes. I’m knitting the Mahina cardigan by Berocco. It’s a beautiful pattern.
Tubing is a big summer activity here in Wisconsin. Our family and friends love floating down the river on a hot day. I'm sorry you had such a miserable time, but I enjoyed your storytelling and will admit I chuckled several times. It reminded me of one year we went tubing with friends, I was 7 or 8 months pregnant. We got to the end of our route and my husband forgot I couldn't get out of the tube myself, so as everyone was getting off the river, I was still floating away. Lol, they had to swim out to pull me back in.
Hi Mark! I think your sparkle sweater is beautiful and it will look great on you!! I am working on the Heidi Bears Pony as I watch your video. I am in the process of joining the motifs and am on the front legs part. I am thankful to you for your video showing how to do the joining of the motifs. The written instructions even with her great pictures for the joining just didnt “click” with me until I watched your video!!
HI love the sweater you are working on, it will be a great addition for those festive occasions. I’m currently working on 2 pairs of socks, one shawl and a hat and mitten set for the grandson. The socks are portable so they are always on a pair of needles. I live in the PNW in Washington. Summers don’t really get started here till July 5th, but we do get a few hints that the great weather is coming. Our humidity is very low in the summertime but higher in the winter because of all the rainy weather we get. And yes I do have to deal with a little bit of snow. Keep the u-tube videos coming I enjoy these visits with you. 🧶😉👋
Some of those patterns in the booklet you received were very cute! I have a few vintage patterns but I'm always so nervous to start them in case I have questions about them (no creator to ask questions of at this point unfortunately 😅). My confidence in knitting is only just now allowing me to make adjustments that aren't in the pattern so the vintage ones are a little daunting. I'll have to take the plunge one day soon! The sparkly jumper looks ace - thanks for sharing with us!
As soon as you pulled it out I knew it was for you - it's beautiful and why not wear sparkles? I was gifted a vintage pattern book last summer and began a sweater. I'll continue it when my latest vision deficit improves. There's a woman called Engineering Knits on here and she's made some GORGEOUS vintage patterns. She's recalculated some of the patterns to fit current sizing - you might want to check her out. My summer seems to be filled with gardening and weed removal. I'm excited to finally be learning how to manage growing in the high desert and we've been eating home grown potatoes, tomato and herbs so far. Oh and garlic. It's HOT 95+ so I work for an hour or two and come in to cool off and refill my ice water. Today though, we're off to Palm Springs (116 today I think) for an appt. By the time we get home, I'll just be thrilled to be indoors.
Hi Mark, love the sparkle and pattern. I’m currently knitting myself a jumper in yarnsmiths baby dk, mixed yarn - grey, pink and creamy white. Also have a number of crochet projects on the go. Too many to list 🫣
I’m working on my first adult sweater - a Mountain Mist (by TinCanKnits) for myself. I loved your video on sweaters and the different styles - made it easy for me to pick a yoke design!
The sparkly sweater looks awesome! Can't wait to see you wear it! At the moment I'm crocheting a sweater (the fragment sweater by Novita - a Finnish company) and I always have a sock on my DPNs. I also have a west I need to sew together and finnish with the ribbings around the neck and arm holes.
Hi Mark: I don’t knit winter knit wear in the summer anymore. Holding winter wool in the summer is too hot. A few years ago, I joined an Isabel Kramer KAL for the first time. I knitted with a Wool of the Andes wool in the heat of summer. It was too hot to hold, not enjoyable. Needlesstosay, I had to frog the whole sweater because I’ve done something wrong and the fit was way off. I have been knitting wash clothes because I am a monogamous knitter. I need to find more yarn for my only WIP. I can’t start another spring sweater because the yarn in my stash is not the right amount or right texture. Heat waves are brutal, I’m at a three day getaway and the heat wave is very untimely. I never get to anywhere. When I do, the heat wave joined me unfortunately. Last week, I decided to joined a local knit group meeting at a different location once a month for three hours. It was fun to knit with other knitters and talk knitting and other things. The knitters were nice and friendly. I enjoyed it! I’ll see if I can navigate to their next destination next month. The weather was nice, location was great. Thanks for sharing! I really enjoy the content you share on your podcast. Enjoy the summer, happy knitting and podcasting! ❤
I love your sweater! I’m working on a pair of socks, just finished a shawl, still need to wash and block it. My goal is to start my first sweater this summer…
I love seeing your knitting and hearing your stories! I’m working on a Rock It Tee by Tanis Lavallee and a tank by KnitCroAddict and loving them both. 🙂
What a disappointing story about tubing. I feel like they should have had a plan for that type of situation. I live in Jonesborough TN. I did not grow up here but where we live I can see the mountains. They remind me of the view from my childhood home. Just days ago I started my first sweater!! I am excited and apprehensive all at the same time. I went with the Flax Light. I am planning on doing a 3/4 sleeve. I also downloaded the app. So far things are going well... I'm still working on the neck ribbing. The app does help to streamline the pattern to only what I need to know for my size, length and sleeves. I am knitting with yarn I bought on clearance a few years ago. To get gauge I ended up needing to hold it double. Glad I have 7 skeins. They are not all the same dye lot. I will need to do some creative yarn rotations to evenly distribute 4 different dye lots. Only 2 skeins are obviously different from the rest.
I love the sparkly sweater. You have given me a bit of a boost to also incorporate some sparkle in my hand knits. Anyone know what this sequined yarn is?
Do you have one of these wooden spinning yarn holders? Would using that help with keeping the sequins untangled? Now I also want a sparkling sequin sweater❤
I have that book and just made 747-10 in a mustard color. I have to put is facing for the button band, but I've been lazy about it. All the hand sewing is not what I want to do right now. It looks at me from my knitting basket.......
No, my summer really isn't different from my winter. I am working on a pair of socks but, mostly, I am suffering from tendonitis in my wrist, making all things difficult.
I hit gauge automatically! I was kind of surprised because I expected that I would need to shift sizes or needles. I'll say that I find Sweet Georgia Tough Love Sock to be a robust fingering weight. It's definitely not as thin as light fingering or single ply 😁
Your Alabama rafting story makes me think that when you used a Groupon, there was a little passive-aggressive behavior of not being helpful to the customers (telling you which floating device would be most reliable). Also, maybe the locals knew the river was low and storms were forecast, so that's why you didn't see others in the river with you.
Love the sparkle sweater. It’s gorgeous. U will light up the world in it. Can’t wait to see it done
What did you say the name of the sweater was? I looked and didn’t see it 🤷♀️
Helped a young child that was lost on the beach at Hiltonhead. It is easy to get lost, so I was glad to have been there at the moment to help him.
They only look at you weird because they are only used to seeing the "rugged" you. They just need to be reminded that every now and again, you should have some fun and sparkle if you want to! 😊
Mark, sparkle all you want. The world needs more sparkle. Today I am listening while working on a granny square baby blanket.
There is a weaving trick that would help you with your sparkle yarn. The DIY version involves parchment paper and an empty toilet paper or paper towel tube. You wind your yarn onto the tube while sandwiching parchment paper between the layers.
Mark, you are a wonderful storyteller, thanks and I'm so glad to connect here with you and the other crafters! Keep these coming!
“Stop saving sparkles for special occasions”! (A great meme)
I really like the yarn color with the sequin accent. Yes , you can wear this!
The sweater is absolutely lovely and you should absolutely wear it as much as YOU want to wear it I know I would if I made one ❤
Mark I thinks it’s beautiful and you do you!
I hope you wear your sweater all the time! It makes me so happy to see people out and about with their favorite, fun, sparkly, (insert all the adjectives) wearables!
You’re going to look SO GOOD in that sequin sweater 👏👏👏 I’m excited for you! ❤️

I love watching your videos and look forward to each one.

Hi Mark! Your tubing story was crazy! What a nightmare. I'm glad you both survived. 😄
Great tubing story
Loving the sweater! I just finished a dress and I started a blanket while watching your video :)
Nice story. I had good memories of river floats in my college days and hitting the bottom of the river bed. Great sweater pattern. It went on my list.

Love the sweater!!!
Oooooh, sparkly. The magpie in me LOVES the sweater. But my tastes lean more towards extravagance, black and white or obnoxious color.😅❤
I love the sparkle sweater!
It's SO PRETTTTY 😍
In whatever context you don the sparkle jumper, it will look so good on you!
I’m working on my first adult sweater - a Mountain Mist (by TinCanKnits) for myself. I loved your video on sweaters and the different styles - made it easy for me to pick a yoke design!
I've got two projects on my needles right now. Roseroot by Lene Tosti and Midnight in Berlin by Melanie Berg.
I am very-much a beginning knitter, currently working on 'Biscotte Booties' for grandbaby due in January 👶
Love your video! I'm currently working on Boho Blush from A.Mowry and Boneyard Shawl by S.West. Love them both!!❤
I am crocheting a tumbling blocks pattern that I am trying to do!
That was a great river experience story. My favorite...."Oh those tubes pop easily"...seriously? 🙄
Hi Mark
I have that book and just made 747-10 in a mustard color. I have to put is facing for the button band, but I've been lazy about it. All the hand sewing is not what I want to do right now. It looks at me from my knitting basket.......
No, my summer really isn't different from my winter. I am working on a pair of socks but, mostly, I am suffering from tendonitis in my wrist, making all things difficult.
Mark, how did your gauge come out using fingering weight yarn instead of sport? I’m curious about how you compensated.
