I have to agree with egore reknits ' comment that Ned really adds to the Q&A format. You both have such lovely, soothing speaking voices that it made me think: do all singers have good speaking voices? Does voice training alter or enhance your regular voice? I use some spaghetti storage jars that I found at a charity shop for my 20 grams or less wool goodies. I also find that charity shops always have yarn and straight knitting where I live. The yarn is mostly acrylic, but occasionally you can find wool blends too. Thank you for the podcast.
Thank you so much! I made sure that Ned read your comment as well :) I think many singers consciously think of how they speak so to preserve their singing voices! Speaking and singing voices don't have to work hand in hand, but they often benefit each other in the way they are used and taken care of!
My favorite Andy Griffith Show episode was the one where Barney is trying to recite the Preamble of the Constitution from memory. My fifth graders had to memorize the Preamble as part of an end of the year event, and I used to show them this clip.
For free yarn, tell all your friends that you are accepting donations. Tell your library that you are accepting donations and leave your information with them. Some churches have stashes of donated yarn and will give some to you if you are making items for charity. Today I am working on a hexi-granny square cardigan.
When I soak and block a superwash sweater the first time and it turns out too large, I put it in the dryer while it is still damp for a short time and let the heat shrink it. I've done this many times and am always happy with the shrinkage. I prefer a more fitted sweater.
Morning Mark, thank you for all that you bring to our crafting learning curves ! lol I love working with 100% wool and when I work on with S.W. wool I really must be mindful for the blocking growth. See you next time :D. from Alberta
I really love your peg boards of yarn. My family has several cats, so for now most of my yarn is stored in clear bins in a closet. One day when I am able to have a craft room I would like to have a peg board wall to display yarn. So, definitely keeping your display in my craft room ideas folder. I really enjoy how you do these Q&A videos. Having your husband read the questions is great! Such soothing voices all around.
I very much enjoy your channels. It's interesting how many creative folks also love classical music. One of my long term friends is a 'classical' metalhead, but hey, she knits like a champ. Stitching in the high notes is a retired opera singer and knits, crochets, cross stitches and sews amazing project bags for her small business. There are more but you get the idea. And you fit into that special group. Yay.
I always guage swatch but found with superwash wool the finished project still grows beyond my washed and blocked guage swatch. For myself, the stitches even look larger or looser so I usually go down a needle size to get the fabric I want in my finished garment.
Yes! I find the results to be the same as yours. I typically keep the recommended needle size but work a size smaller than I really need. And by the time it's blocked, it fits perfectly! It always feel risky to cast on for a smaller size, but I know from experience that superwash will always grow soooo much :)
😮 My eyes widened within the first 20 seconds. That round yoke sweater you’re wearing is seriously beautiful. Yes, come to think on it, I think I have seen it in a video before but it struck me afresh here. I enjoy watching and listening to you. Superwash wools can be unpredictable but I agree with your advice plus experience and keeping a project journal really helps. I have a problem¿ I like your pegboard but my yarn supply wouldn’t begin to fit on that small bit of space. Over many, many years I have acquired a lot of yarn by purchase, gifting, and donations. Much was given away too but I have plans for what I still have though I won’t live long enough to actually use it all. 😂 😢
I have a question for you , Mark. On one of your previous epitoads, you were using an ipad to design a stitch pattern. What program do you use for that? And is it only for ipads or can you use it on phones as well? Also, I just wanted to say how much I enjoy your podcast.Thank you so very much for sharing yourself and your craft with us.
Thank you for being here! In that video I was just scribbling in an app called "Notability." I used it in college to handwrite notes. It's nothing special for knitting though. I imagine there might be actual knitting appropriate apps that help with pattern design. I know some friends who use websites and apps for colorwork charts but I can't think of what they are called off the top of my head. Perhaps someone here in the comments will be able to help us!
Thank you so much, I just can't seem to find an app for an i pad or android so that I can Change patterns and charts as well as design as I go. If anyone does have some info or ideas, please let me know.Thank you so much.
Hi Mark! I always just enjoy getting to listen to you chat about life and yarn related stuff 😊. I’ve recently moved from overseas back to the Midwest and am trying to get my bearings regarding yarn stores, shops I might want to visit, etc. While doing a search for retailers for a certain yarn I was interested in, one shop mentioned in Ohio was yarnbyrds in Columbus. I can’t seem to find an actual street address. Do you know this shop? It appears they have a bus called Birdie which drives around? Just wondering if you are another viewer might have a clue, thanks!
I'm familiar with that! They are a yarn truck that travels to festivals! Beautiful selection, but as far as I know, it is just a mobile set up - no brick and mortar location. Welcome back to the Midwest!
With any luck, I'll get an answer to this question, although it doesn't have to be in a video: did you write your own theme music? I find it to be most captivating and inviting.
I wish! It's a very cool piece of music that comes from a website called Epidemic Sound. The track is called "Swinging in Paris" by Daniel Fridell and Sven Lindvall. Here is a link to the full song ☺️ ruclips.net/video/zxYI6xqAznY/видео.htmlsi=OlNphcOvoXoLUefN
Hi Mark. I would love to donate yarn to that viewer who is on a budget and can’t quite afford it right now. I have more than enough to share. Can you put me in touch with that person? Shall I email you separately about this? Thanks. Patricia

I never thought about bugs in thrifted yarn! Thanks for the advice.
Thanks for a lovely chat ! For those looking for free or inexpensive yarn, spread the word through friends and groups you are part of.
You gave an excellent explanation of blocking and how the fabric grows. Thank you for that.
Thanks for watching!

Too funny! I think I may enjoy returning to the show in a decade or two. There are so many clever storylines.

I agree checking with churches. Mine has a knit/crochet group that meets at church and I know they get donations.
Wonderful suggestion! Thank you for plugging it :)

Great recommendation! Thank you for being here :)
I use a framed pegboard for my needles (I keep them in the original packaging), I call it modern art. 😁
I want to see a picture of that! Sounds lovely.
Loved this episode and seeing how you store your yarn. I may give the pegboards a try. Your Weekender is looking great.
Thank you so much!
Any craft store should have them!

Wow! The sheep at the ending is so cute! Did you draw that?
I'm always enjoying your video. Thank you

Thank you! I've enjoyed the pegboards. More than anything else, it urges me to use the yarn that is there. :)

Love your podcasts Mark! I’m also making a Weekender - one sleeve to go! Have a great weekend 🙂
Lovely! What kind of yarn and what color are you using?

Which yarn winder do you recommend buying and using?
If you wind a lot of yarn, the Stanwood Needlecraft winders are great!

I haven't watched the Andy Griffin show in decades cause of similar scarring.
