Lol I’m in Indiana and I’m pretty sure I know what store you’re talking about. The local store close to me sounds very similar to the description complete with the swifter laying on the sales floor. 😂 my experience wasn’t great either.

John Arbon textiles in South Molton in Devon is definitely worth a visit if you're anyway near there. You can book a tour of the mill, where they use many old machines for making yarn and the yarns are fabulous.

Hm. Very interesting - I almost always learn something from you! This time round it was the flexible cable needle. I can see that being very handy indeed. Must look into this! Ooooh. And the magnetic board and ruler to keep your place. Genius! I always take little sticky post its to do that. A magnet ruler would be more efficient….. Love your self-made color card! Those are gorgeous colors. I would love to consider the KAL. Usually my own plans take precedence… but who knows? I hope you had a safe flight and are having a lovely time!!

I loved hearing your story, thank you for sharing. I started crochet when I was 5 living in SoCal. My "nana" (no relation but was a family friend and she watched me when my mom worked) taught me to chain so i would sit still a bit more so shecould watch OG Zorro. I remember making what seemed like miles of chains and then went on to other things. Fast forward 4-ish years, my mom and I had just moved to a tiny rural town in Nebraska. We rented the 2nd story of a house, and by luck the renter downstairs (who occasionally let me "hang out" afterschool when i was bored until my mom got home from work) aslo crocheted. Miss Mary was a sweet older (not elderly) lady who always seemed to have yarn and hook in hand. She re-taught me how to chain and how to make a 'magic pot holder' with sc. Although she was left handed, and I'm right handed, so we figured out I needed to mirror her actions. This was the early 90s so it took quite a bit of trial and error since we couldn't just look it up online. 😅 I made a bunch of pot holders as gifts then dropped the hobby again. I picked it up every once in a while but didn't want to be teased for doing something only grannies did so it wasn't until I was 16 or 17, now living in central Iowa, that I found a "learn to tunisan crochet" kit at a store and picked it up. I had to relearn everything, but thankfully a friends mom also hooked so she was able to help me with the basics again. I started several projects but don't know if any were finished. When I was put on bedrest while pregnant with my daughter a few years later, I made her a full coming home set with a sweater, matching hat and booties, and a matching 9 square granny square blanket. I made her dresses, sweaters, amigurumi toys and blankets glaore. I was the "eww knitting people they think they are so fancy 🥴"/crochetville type for a few years until I decided to learn to just knit socks because I didn't like how crochet socks fit with shoes. Definitely fell down the rabbit hole of "oo look at all this fancy yarn" and became a yarn snob when knitting. That was 2007, and since then I've taught myself to cross stitch, weave on a rigid heddle loom, and I won't even mention the dozens of other crafts that didn't pass the ADHD dopamine requirement 😂. Learning to spin my own yarn lead to a rabbithole of dyeing fibers/yarn, running a small yarn shop in the back of a local store, growing my own cotton to spin, and learning to process raw wool so I had an excuse to buy all the pretty fleeces I could from rare breeds. TL:DR - In typical Adhd girl fashion, I have dabbled in almost all types of crafts to an extent but have settled into mainly knitting and spinning, since I started yarning 30-ish years ago.

Really interesting video. I will employ your needle tip storage method when I fly to Italy in September. To be honest I've never had a problem with security in UK, Scandinavia or most of Europe, maybe because knitting is pretty common here. I am very excited about the Seaglass KAL. Marie Wallin ❤❤❤. I have to date only attempted one colorwork item, which was kind of a fail. But that’s ok. I was experimenting. I am obsessed with the Bressay pullover, the Camomile beret and the Honeysuckle Cardigan…. I have a sense the larger items could take me nearly a year to knit. But it would be so worth it, right? So sad the Lerwick pattern is no longer available. I think that would have looked stunning on you. My vote goes for the first vest!

This was such an interesting process to watch. I admire your patience and persistence! And I’m so glad it gave you the answers you wanted. I have slowly learned to appreciate swatching for exactly these reasons… although I do not know if I could muster up your perseverance with the different Color swatches 😅. Cannot wait to see more!

Mark have a great trip! I'm very envious. I lived in the UK several years but never was able to do the site seeing I would have liked as I was too busy working. I think you are going to run out of projects while you are over there because you are such a fast knitter. I think you need to add something else. I try not to judge. People use what they can. As a knitter and supporter of continuing the art, I try to keep it positive. Find something nice to say or STFU. And remember, it's OK to leave a store without buying anything. If it's not a good experience, for whatever reason, leave. Under your circumstances though, I would have a hard time not making it clear why I wasn't enjoying the experience.

Way to make me totally LOSE IT, Mark! That piece of music stunned me with its power and beauty, the love you shared so openly here moved my heart profoundly. Thank you, thank you, thank you. 💞🙏💞

Have wonderful time on your trip! I know it's not on your itinerary but, if you have a chance, Oxford is a beautiful town. There's only a couple of yarn stores but my daughter lives there and loves it.

I have the coolest tool, it's half knitting needle/half crochet hook (each end)..its immensely helpful!!! It was gifted to me, so I have no clue where my BFF found it. Have a great trip.

You really should go to Jamieson & Smith also. The shop is full of beautiful wool and you might even meet a designer or two in the store. It's a wonderful, not-to-miss stop. I've been to Shetland twice and, while I hate to choose a favorite, I think that J&S might win out by a little.

My random must have I never see on anyone else's list... A nail file! There's nothing worse than trying to knit when you have a scraggly split nail.

Great Video. Like the ideas you shared about packing. Somehow, packing my knitting is the most challenging. I ordered the seagull fabric to make a bag. Love you are taking the challenging christmas stocking. Both my vehicles have knitting and notions. You never know where you will be stuck. I LOVE Chiagoo interchangeable needles. I worked on a shawl on my flight and brought needles that could be thrown away; it was a fingering weight shawl. Love your color card. I use ravely to keep track of my yarn in a project. I know I would take a picture of your color card idea and put that in there as well. I can't wait to hear about your videos of the UK.

Oh Mark Iv always thought what a gentle voice you have so I’m not surprised that you sing. I would love to hear your singing some time, that would be wonderful. As you are coming here to the UK it would be great if you could get down to Totnes here in South Devon , it’s a beautiful place in the river Dart filled with happy friendly people I’m so lucky to live amongst. I came across your channel a few weeks ago. Love your calm voice and how you explain techniques and show your works /wip's I have/had a "travel" project that I always took on my train rides when I visited my family.. but because I travel more in winter I had it on pause for so long that I just started doing it at home so I can finally finish it. 😅 Love the idea of "sentimental" attachment of the project to the travel. And souvenir yarn for future projects. For yours is kind of see a "scrap yarn" pullover that has Scottish yarn on top..and then add more yarn from more southern areas (don't know it only scottland or other areas) (because it would be sad if you did not get enough yarn for a specific project ) Anyway I am thinking of maybe join the knit along. We will see. Have fun. And have a nice honeymoon with your husband 💜

This video gave me a lot of anxiety 😂 packing for a trip soooo stressful. My husband never helps because his help makes me even more anxious. I have to pack for 4 people, me, him, and 2 kids. Plus, a dog. Our trip this summer got cancelled, we all are very sad about it, but now at least I can enjoy my anxiety free summer here at home 😂 Just so you understand how stressful packing is for me, I started to plan and pack my summer trip knitting projects in January 🤕🤯 by march I had like 12+ WIP's and keep going. In April I realised I am crazy and by now most of them are finished 😂. So no, as I am still really, really sad we are not going on a trip, I am still happy I don't need to pack anymore and can slowly finish the rest of my WIP's 😂 Have a wonderful honeymoon trip. I am looking forward to all the videos you may share with us ❤

Great video Mark ❤️ felt like I was coming with you on your trip , and I loooove the Christmas stocking pattern. Lately I have been hankering for autumn/fall knitting and think I will start on my gift knitting soon, currently just finished a summer weight striped Henley sweater and am now onto second sock of my first sock project of this year and it’s so nice to be knitting with wool again! Am going to Yarndale in Skipton, West Yorkshire at the end of September, it’s by far the best yarn show in the UK as far as I am concerned, spent a small fortune there last year! Going to be shopping for a fairisle sweater, but am yet to decide on a pattern. Really looking forward to the knit along, going to be such fun❤️. Again, wishing you and Ned safe and smooth travels, so wish I could find a way to get to meet you during your trip, you are such a beautiful soul and would be an absolute pleasure to meet Ned too. Hey Mark! What about a necklight? I find it useful for crocheting when on the bus early morning when the lights are kept off on the bus. Maybe while on the train, or in a hotel room, etc when you can’t sleep, you can knit without disturbing Ned or others!

The little blue scissors..."I just need them for my life". 😆I like the way you carefully planned each project with its accessories. I can relate to even considering where in the project you want to be when you start your trip. Like not casting on on the plane! Already read the instructions, etc. You are just awesome, and you never fail to make me smile. Or crack me up.

I’m seeing Megan’s sea glass sweater colors and am taking back my IG comment about the color choices. They are actually much more delightful than I originally thought. It’s all about the lighting, I think. Or maybe I’m bad at judging colors. Let’s just say I’m bad at choosing colors. Regardless, I’ll look forward to watching the completion of Megan’s sweater, and seeing how she styles it! As for the packing, yikes! I don’t think I’ve ever used half of the items you are taking…just in case. With all of that prep you shouldn’t need anything… have fun!
