With site fees becoming rather expensive do you do off-grid? Do you have solar, lithium batteries and or large power banks and what options/alternates are there? Would be of interest to us amateurs. Another very useful video Martin, thanks, but May I ask how you overcome the data roaming restrictions of U.K. data / phone services to run all your apps for an extended period? Thanks. Apologies if you have already covered this.
Good morning Richard thanks for watching. We have a couple of approaches , I have an EE SIM card which has a roaming pass thrown in. At the time I took out the contract, i could choose one add on , I chose roaming. However just because we have roaming doesn't mean that the provider won't use what it calls an acceptable use limits and start to throttle back both the data you can use plus the speed. Because we are heavy users I also get a local PAYG SIM card from the country we are in for my Van Wifi system and use that for uploading video and from streaming videos , leaving the EE Sim to manage for the usual things that we need , personal use and for information and location checking when we're out . If we weren't media creators we would manage fine with the EE option , but you have to have a roaming ticket on your account to avoid considerable costs . Not all providers are equal , most will sell you a roaming pass. BUT - they are not all equal on how they set the acceptable usage policy - Three for example was as low as 12gb per month before they cut you off, which might be ok if you are a low data user , but that would last us a few days. We use a Garmin Avtec Sat Nav , really useful you can program it with the motorhomes dimensions include weight and the Sat Nav will direct you away from restrictions. It's been a good purchase , there's a discount on the CMC shop for members if you thinking of buying them , although the sites been down for a couple of days with an IT issue.
