Thank you for your honesty and lack of fear of the Cricut company’s retribution! They have gotten too big for their britches. I think most of us agree, save money, be wise shoppers, it’s your money! Well done.
Finally someone actually tells you, you can use and buy other brands not just circut, i was taking my machine back today got very fraustrated with it Nd having to spend money to buy the tools very expensive. Thank you very much.
I’m curious why you can buy 1’ x 5’ of VVIVID XPO car wrap vinyls for about $13 CDN and Siser EasyWeed HTV 11.8" x 5ft Roll - Iron On Heat Transfer Vinyl (White) is $30 CDN. just a little more than double the price. Maybe it cost more to make the Siser products? or the craft industry has a very high markup?
You forgot blades. I haven’t bought Cricut blades in 5 years. I buy alternative brand off of Amazon and it works just as well. You just have to read the listing and make sure you get German carbide blades. I buy mine from bridge cutters because they’re USA made.
Crafters don’t have a ton of money to spend on tools. It can be disheartening to watch some of the most popular design team members blow me away with some of their projects, only to find that the supply list is long and expensive. Some go out of their way to suggest alternative products that we may already own ... but many do not. I understand that this is their job, and I really do enjoy the videos. Thank you again for your tips - this video is SAVED !
Thank you for this. I just got a Cricut for the first time. I was REALLY having buyer's remorse when I started thinking about the supply costs down the road. I almost canceled the order, but I really want to be able to make the fun stuff I see people doing.
If the Cricut authorties want to be mad with you about sourcing supplies elsewhere, they should first consider that I've been resisting buying a Cricut for this very reason. They just made a $399 sale today BECAUSE of your video - a sale they would have never made had I not known I could source supplies from more than just one place! And yes, I WILL buy some Cricut supplies from my local supplier just for convenience. But not all of them!
while i do agree with everything you said and have been buying from before it was 143, ive never had a single issue with any cricut item other than costly but when one needs something yesterday i wouldnt hesitate to use it again in an emergency
UK here. I'm 67 and only just got my first cricut joy machine, so thankyou for helping us to save money. I felt a bit down when I saw the price of things and subscription for design space. I will be looking into getting some of these items.
I bought vinyl a couple weeks ago from 143vinyl because a friend told me that’s what she uses…and then I came across your video so now I am extra glad I ordered from 143vinyl. I do have some Cricut vinyl but as I am very new to crafting, it’s much easier for me to do trial & error without having to break the bank😁…thank you, thank you!
Thank you so much for the honest comparison on the non-Cricut brand items. I want to know I don’t have to buy everything Cricut brand. I’ve spent a lot with them throughout the years and will continue to do so with their machines, it’s just nice to be able to save some on supplies.
I've seen a birthday present from my husband (which I wasn't supposed to as my birthday is not til next week) - a Cricut Explore Air 2. I'm now exploring all the opportunities available to me in the crafting world. These are some of the BEST tips I have seen so far. As I'm in the UK I may not have the access to some of the stores mentioned, but we do have Amazon, so I'll be using that as much as possible. Thank you for your trial and error of products. It'll save us all money in the long run. I've never been a 'brand' person and love to save money where I can!
I just got my first order frim 143 vinyl and i couldn't be happier. The colors are much more vibrant than cricket. I also ordered a pin pin which seems to be very popular thanks to Makers Gonna Learn cause they seem to run out of some of the pretty colors. I also ordered a 2 dollar scrapper tool as well. Its really firmer then the ones i was using before which was an off brand from Amazon.
It's so refreshing to see an honest video about this. I am a new Cricut User (Cricut Joy) and it's been quite overwhelming with all the material, extras and stuff...and it seems that all DIY RUclipsrs were paid by cricut because everybody seems to recommend the cricut products and nothing else... Which is fine, I guess...but I was wondering if I could use just a cheaper Vinyl, paper, matt... So, thanks for this video!
I have never left a comment on reviews but I could not just leave this video without letting you know how amazing this video is! You know your products, I wish I saw this video sooner I bought cricut brand products this morning. But you are spot on, thank you for sharing all these goodies with us! God Bless You.
I'm a metal fabricator/machinist, stumbled onto this video, very informative and well done. Looking to buy a cutter for masking designs before sand blasting. Thank You!
Harbor Freight has some awesome tools that are handy for Cricut projects. I bought weeding tools (picks- I think about $5 for a Hook & Pick Set, 6 Pc.) They have very fine tips that work great for weeding tiny spaces. I also bought some burnishing tools (paint spreaders or putty spreaders). I got the 3-piece set of yellow spreaders that are nicely flexible for $3. I also just saw that they had a set of 20 spreaders for $8.

For weeding tools, I thrifted a craft smart set of metal sculpting tools that were still in the package. I thought I'd snag them because they seemed like a decent variety. Turns out some of them are GREAT for weeding. One in particular has a sharp end on either side for each tool and it has done GREAT things in my detailed vinyls.
This is why women should rule the world, lots of guts for plenty of glory, it’s about time someone is out there to help people SAVE MONEY 💰 times are tough enough, CONGRATULATIONS 🎉 on a fantastic channel, I bought my daughter one many years ago & she is going away for a bit & I’ve decided to borrow it, I’m extremely happy I’ve just come across your video, I’m now a subbie & sharer & saver as well…..THANK YOU! I’m from Australia I’m in my 60’s & still learning 🤣😂🤣😂🍾🥂💕🎉🎊. HAPPY 2022 NEW YEAR
Buy yourself a weeder with hook and you will facepalm for what you have been missing. It turned out to be an all purpose tool, always in my hand, not just for weeding but also to pick up small items from the working table, lift up the corner of paper or cardstock when they are hard to pick up etc. I never since use exacto for such things. I even use it to remove scraps from the mat unless the pieces are really small, thus preserving the stickiness.
I absolutely love your channel. You definitely have the consumer and/or crafters best interests at heart! When I search for a particular subject you 9 out of 10 times have a video to watch. THANK YOU THANK YOU so much for your expertise and most off all user friendly advise.❤❤❤❤
As a newbie to Cricut Maker, these tips are amazing. Thanks so much for sharing all this information. Also, you are easy to listen to and understand. Coming from a northern girl, that’s a real compliment.😀
Oh my gosh! Good thing I came across this video before purchasing my Cricut. I am a beginner and not sure yet where to buy alternatives. Thanks for sharing these tips!
Anyone else gobsmacked that MGL did an anti-cricut tool video? They said no to the Kool-Aide? Thank you very much. I am happy about the "real" feedback.
Haha! We still love Cricut machines (clearly, haha) as well as lots of their products, but when we find better quality and cheaper items, we want to tell you all about it! :) Thank you for watching and commenting!
But yet turn around and purchase several of Cricut’s brand new machines and now putting out tons of videos on subjects like “how to make money” using a Cricut machine! 🙄
@@JMicheleS33 they have an entire community dedicated to using the cricut, seems silly to think they wouldn’t still use their machines and continue to create helpful content. This video was simply showing you how to use your machine without going broke...
I’m so glad I found your video I was ready to give up on vinyl crafting. It took me 4 hours to weed a keychain size project using Cricut vinyl. Nightmare So much wasted money. Thank you so much 😊
Thank you so much, this video is priceless! My daughter and I are new to Cricut and this will save us so much money. Keep these types of videos coming please, we want more dupe videos!❤🙌🏽
Nice to know you have a choice... I have used non-alcohol baby wipes to clean my mats, and works great.. I would NOT be without my PIN PEN!!! LOVE IT. just be careful when picking it up and you're not looking, that you go to use it, click it, that it is the correct end!!! That point IS SHARP.. AND WILL MAKE YOU BLEED!!.. Don't ask how I know! lol. So be sure to close it when done... THANKS FOR SHARING.
Cricut stuff.... tssk tssk. Thanks for the video. There is nothing wrong by ditching cricut branded stuff, my wife has been doing research and getting other branded materials and tools, she uses Avery and 3m for my stickers works flawlessly and look great.
Just received my Cricut Maker yesterday. Been watching your videos and reading your emails all week in anticipation. You guys are wonderful, thank you for doing what you do! I've learned so much, and will continue to learn from you. Still deciding on a membership, but will keep considering it, it really depends on what our goals become as we continue our business development, which is more focused on video games, apps, and video production than making, but honestly, you guys are making me want to slightly reconsider my path, as I've always been interested in making and suddenly I have the confidence to pursue it, partially thanks to you!
Welcome to the community!! If you love our videos & emails, you should try our community for sure! Here's a trial for 20 cut files OR fonts for only $1! See here: makersgonnalearn.com/dollarship-membership-deal/
Absolutely great video!!! I love that you are honest with your opinions and don't waiver. I also love that you're NOT sponsored by ANYONE!!! You are true to your convictions and are helping thousands of crafters become better at their crafts. You care about your members and, really, everyone watching your videos. You put us first and that's why I'm here. I enjoy every video, every craft project and every interaction with the MGL Team and the members of the Facebook group. I've learned so much from all of you and am very thankful I've found you. Hope you all have a beautiful and productive day!! 💗🌺🌸💗🌺🌸💗🌺🌸💗🌺🌸

Thank you!! I have spent so much $$ on cricut & cringe when I use their products to make my projects. This is an excellent video & the choices and information you shared give me more insight & resources for my projects!! Thank you!!
I bought the Dododum mini press! When I was ordering my cricut I just didn't have a lot of money. To spend on the extra tools but heard everyone say a household iron really doesn't work well. I have been so stinking happy with my Dododum! Every project has come out perfect! In fact my very first project I did with my cricut was personalize my Dododum bag. It comes with a drawstring storage bag so on the front I put "Stacey's Dododum" and an iron icon I got from design space. On the back I made the temperature guide since it has 3 temp options I made a chart and put the temp of each option to help me knowwhat settings to use with the various vinyls (seems like every brand uses different temp settings) anyway I love mine! I can honestly recommend it! If you watch it goes on sale too. It's often listed as a hot buy! Amazon will chose a color (mine was green) and slash the price 30% off! I wanted pink because that's my aesthetic but the grass green shade is super pretty and was $20 cheaper thank the pink! Highly recommend!
Great video and Thank You for getting to the point. I wish I had watched this video before my Daughter and I went to New York and spent a small fortune on Circut items.
I have read some of the comments and truly can't understand why some are upset about this. There are definitely some better products for a better price. I would think you would appreciate the comparisons instead of criticize them. They are saving you time and money when doing this. They have done similar comparison videos before with the same results. I for one won't watch a influencer that has to struggle with words because another brand is better.
Hi, I’m new to your channel. I use the cutting mats you have just shown. They fit into the circut machine just fine, items cut out fine, plus, I wash my cutting mats with dish washing liquid. Once dry they are sticky and work fine. Thanks for all the great information.
Thank you for this video! I ordered my first Cricut Maker on 6/12/2021 and I’m excited. I can’t wait to get it! I will definitely be subscribing to your site to see all your wonderful videos you put out!! Thanks for these tips!!
I’m just about to purchase a Cricut Maker but I was a little concerned about the cost of the Cricut consumables. This was really useful, I’ll definitely be trying out some of the alternatives which look just as good. Love your crafting channel too - you always put the crafter 1st and not the brand.
Thank you SO MUCH for your sweet comment! We think of you all everyday and want to make you confident and well-rounded crafters without breaking the bank!
Thanks for the info! I learned this the hard way 1 year after I got my cricut! I use Monat mats from Amazon and 365 vinyl... keep the great information coming because I'm still pretty much a newbie!
I know the Cricut mats are expensive if buying on Amazon, Joanns, etc. But if you have a premium access membership and hit the big sales and use promo codes on their site you can get them so much cheaper than any other off brand. I just purchased 16 mats at $2.58 each. I haven’t seen an off brand that cheap anywhere.
Complely stunned that MGL have become so vocal about NOT using Cricut products...what did I miss??? Great video. I think along these lines anyway about buying the cheapest option that still works for me but still...I am still in shock!!
Cricut has gone away from supporting their “fan base” to trying to cut their throats by the way of issuing statement that they will require subscription fees for this and that (its a whole thing) and the crafting community (which banded together holds ALL the power) has decided to STAND UP not only for themselves but for US! That’s MGL 😍
I have had a cricut in my closet but really haven’t used it, (i don’t have room for it.) But seeing your video has help me buy stuff for it ALOT cheaper. I knew there was other tools to buy but you showed me the best and cheapest ones. Thank you so much.
I bought some cute little tools that are pink and on one side has like a spatula and the other side has the needle and it's awesome and there was two of them
Love this video and your accent. I'm from Austin and your voice makes me feel right at home. I"m new Cricut and I would love a video about alternative blades. I know nothing about the blades. Just opened the Cricut maker box yesterday. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I really appreciate the information in this video, however, I will not shop from Amazon. What I really need are alternatives. The info about the Dollar store and the vinyl place will be filed away for future use. Thanks for your hard work putting together this video.
Awesome . Thank you for sharing that with us. I started buying my vinyl from a commercial supplier and instantly noticed the difference. Same with the tools glad I'm not the only one that thinks this way.
Just came across this video and WOW! I just purchase my first Circut and was ready to order from the Circut website. THANK YOU SO MUCH for helping save money, of course to buy more cardmaking and scrapbook supplies too. I will definitely check out your other videos.
Great tips! I'll give ya one back. When using alcohol from the bottle, just untwist the cap half a turn, fold the towel over it and the neck, and invert. Alcohol comes out slowly and you simply twist it back closed when you have enough, wiping the neck clean as you go. BTW, subscribing now.
Has anyone bought the Brother scan and cut and compared it to the Cricut Maker? I have the Cricut Maker and I’m not really liking it, or Design Space. I’ve heard such good things about the Brother. And I love the idea of just being able to scan stuff and cut it out….like scanning a stamp and not needing the $$ matching dies to cut it out, just use the Brother machine.
What alternative brand do you recommend for Smart Label - writable vinyl? when you say "printable vinyl" does that also apply to the type of vinyl you can write on with a pen using a cricut? Your videos are great! thanks so much for all the great info!
Wow! This is good to know! I just purchased a Cricut Maker 3 and was wondering about using brands other than Cricut. Thank you so much for sharing this!
I’m glad StarCraft works for you. I am personally not a fan. After discovering HTVRONT brand I use their vinyl, HTV and also have their mats and mini press. Their products are awesome!!
Absolutely love your accent. Great video, I'm going to watch the others you had recommended in this video. I see Cricut has released a new type of "SMART" vinyl so you don't need a pad and you can cut 12 feet at one time. I hope you can do a video on alternate smart vinyl at lower prices. Cheers from Canada.
Great info, thank you! That weeder tool with the bent neck you showed is very similar to a stainless-steel dental / wax-carving tool I use all the time called a Hollenback Carver. I got a set of three of them on Amazon recently to share with work friends. I’ve had my favorite one for about 15 years, and it has survived multiple drops onto cement floors. I can also soak the whole thing in solvent if I need to, which helps remove certain kinds of glue residues.
@@TrimansWife YRYM.. they really have awesome directions very clear even if you get a multi-pack with a bunch of different htvs they have really thorough directions for each type. They weed beautiful and I have not had a problem with any of the closing that I've made with it. I'm about to make a canvas with it on it super super nice but my favorite part is they put all the vinyl in like this hard plastic envelope and the closure is Velcro I mean even after my is gone I'm still going to use these. I'm seriously I'm not going to put the link you can search for it but I absolutely love it

YES!! 🙌🏻

Thank you for opening our eyes to new options. I love that we are all here for each other.
Oh my gosh. This is so helpful. I was thinking it was me when working with the Cricut vinyls. Thank you!! 😊
No ma'am! Most likely the material! It will discourage you in a hurry using a lower-quality vinyl :( I know the feeling!!
I’m so glad I found your video I was ready to give up on vinyl crafting. It took me 4 hours to weed a keychain size project using Cricut vinyl. Nightmare So much wasted money. Thank you so much 😊
You're welcome!
Thank you so much, this video is priceless! My daughter and I are new to Cricut and this will save us so much money. Keep these types of videos coming please, we want more dupe videos!❤🙌🏽
You are so welcome!
I just got my Cricut and I am SO happy I found your videos as a beginner. Thank you so much for all the great information!!
You are so welcome!

Thank you!! I'll be getting my Maker for my birthday this weekend so I'm watching the how-to videos now. So happy I found you!
Thank you!! I have spent so much $$ on cricut & cringe when I use their products to make my projects. This is an excellent video & the choices and information you shared give me more insight & resources for my projects!! Thank you!!
You are so welcome!🙂
Is the Dododum made in the USA? I try to buy USA made crafting equipment, tools and supplies to support our manufacturing industry.
I love the little pink pointy tool from the dollar tree!
2 to a package, and the other end is a boning tool, really helps when working with paper, to create a sharp, crisp edge.
I just came across you in my Google newsfeed, and I'm SO glad I did 😁👍. Thank you for this awesome video & all the info. I'm a subscriber now 😉
Awesome! Thank you so much for your support!
Great video and Thank You for getting to the point. I wish I had watched this video before my Daughter and I went to New York and spent a small fortune on Circut items.
Thanks for watching!
Sandy!! Thank you for your amazing comment!! You're too sweet. We're so glad you enjoyed the video :)
@@MakersGonnaLearn your very welcome
Thank you for your info. I just got my cricut a few weeks ago and this will help financially
Thank you so much! I'm slowly venturing out on using other brands' tools so I appreciate the confidence boost!
New to this craft. Your video was right on! Who doesn’t love a good tool that is better priced! Thank you !
You're welcome!
Hi, I’m new to your channel. I use the cutting mats you have just shown. They fit into the circut machine just fine, items cut out fine, plus, I wash my cutting mats with dish washing liquid. Once dry they are sticky and work fine.
Thanks for all the great information.
You're welcome!
I think I found my place here! So self explanatory! Love it, as I was getting frustrated 🙃 Thanks for your help!
Happy to help!🙂
Thank you for this video! I ordered my first Cricut Maker on 6/12/2021 and I’m excited. I can’t wait to get it! I will definitely be subscribing to your site to see all your wonderful videos you put out!! Thanks for these tips!!
Hope you enjoy it!🙂
Thank you so much for someone who's a newbie of Cricut and on a budget, I'm happy that I found your video.
You are so welcome!
Thank you! I use All brands that work best for my projects!
Fantastic!😀
Thanks for the info! I learned this the hard way 1 year after I got my cricut! I use Monat mats from Amazon and 365 vinyl... keep the great information coming because I'm still pretty much a newbie!
I know the Cricut mats are expensive if buying on Amazon, Joanns, etc. But if you have a premium access membership and hit the big sales and use promo codes on their site you can get them so much cheaper than any other off brand. I just purchased 16 mats at $2.58 each. I haven’t seen an off brand that cheap anywhere.
All the products in this video seem well worth considering. Thanks Rachel :)
Glad you like them!
So glad to see this video! I could listen to her talk all day!
Aww thank you so much!!
I was sad you didn’t mention vinyl, permanent and for stenciling. What is your favorite?
Thank you so so so much!!! You are so truthful and honest. I will definitely switch. Well done.
You are so welcome!! Thank you so much for your kind words!
You are so welcome!
Fantastic job! Thank you for all the tips. We really appreciate it! 😃
Our pleasure!
Thank you!!! I'm a cricut newby and I enjoy all the tips that you share.
They are also carrying at Dollar Tree tools that look exactly like Cricket brand.
I have the scraper. Works great..
I bought some cute little tools that are pink and on one side has like a spatula and the other side has the needle and it's awesome and there was two of them
They’re so hard to get ahold of 😆. I physically have to drive to each store to see if they have any. I get tired and go to the craft store.
@@jrl9319 I have them too, work good

Love this video and your accent. I'm from Austin and your voice makes me feel right at home.
I"m new Cricut and I would love a video about alternative blades. I know nothing about the blades. Just opened
the Cricut maker box yesterday. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
You’re just one of the pages that I can like the video before even watching! Thank you!
You're so sweet!!
Can you give us the name of the supplier that you use?
Yes Please me to need all the savings I can xx

I got that mini press while waiting on a cricut warranty. It's fine as long as you know it's temperatures are a little higher than cricuts.
Just came across this video and WOW! I just purchase my first Circut and was ready to order from the Circut website. THANK YOU SO MUCH for helping save money, of course to buy more cardmaking and scrapbook supplies too. I will definitely check out your other videos.
You are so welcome!😀
Great tips! I'll give ya one back. When using alcohol from the bottle, just untwist the cap half a turn, fold the towel over it and the neck, and invert. Alcohol comes out slowly and you simply twist it back closed when you have enough, wiping the neck clean as you go. BTW, subscribing now.
Thanks for the tip! 😀
I bought a cricut maker 3 months ago , bought a silhouette probably 10 weeks ago, Haven't used the cricut since
3 months having cricut without using it...? Maybe you should donate the machine to me lol. For the love of Cricut machine from South Africa
@@BatsebaMaepa just prefer the cameo, the software is better and it does print and cut better for me. I hope you get one down there :)
I LOVE my Silhouette Cameo. I bought a bundle and it seems that the tools it included are was better than the Cricut.
@@johnnyfudpucker6187 Alright i understand. Thank you
Has anyone bought the Brother scan and cut and compared it to the Cricut Maker?
I have the Cricut Maker and I’m not really liking it, or Design Space. I’ve heard such good things about the Brother. And I love the idea of just being able to scan stuff and cut it out….like scanning a stamp and not needing the $$ matching dies to cut it out, just use the Brother machine.
I get all my vinyl for my cricut explore 3 at the dollar tree. They have iron on as well. I just use a mat and it works just fine all for $1.25’ 👍🏻
That's awesome!
What alternative brand do you recommend for Smart Label - writable vinyl? when you say "printable vinyl" does that also apply to the type of vinyl you can write on with a pen using a cricut? Your videos are great! thanks so much for all the great info!
We just bought the Maker 3 and this will save us so much. I am so glad I found you before we venture into this. We will be following you. Thank You.
You're welcome!
Love this! Are you able to provide any recommendations for what you can get in the UK? As some of the things you list here it’s harder over here!
Wow! This is good to know! I just purchased a Cricut Maker 3 and was wondering about using brands other than Cricut. Thank you so much for sharing this!
You are so welcome!
Love your videos you seem to be so honest thank you so much 😊

I’m glad StarCraft works for you. I am personally not a fan. After discovering HTVRONT brand I use their vinyl, HTV and also have their mats and mini press. Their products are awesome!!
Absolutely love your accent. Great video, I'm going to watch the others you had recommended in this video. I see Cricut has released a new type of "SMART" vinyl so you don't need a pad and you can cut 12 feet at one time. I hope you can do a video on alternate smart vinyl at lower prices. Cheers from Canada.
Oh thank you!
Yes 🙌🏽. I’ve been buying from my local sublimation store. They usually have top quality material and for half the price.
That is awesome!
Looking forward to the cricut joy alternatives
this was a totally terrific video and I especially appreciate all of the included links...I'm clicking away as i watch you!
I’ve had those mats in my Amazon cart for a week, was unsure thanks
Great info, thank you! That weeder tool with the bent neck you showed is very similar to a stainless-steel dental / wax-carving tool I use all the time called a Hollenback Carver. I got a set of three of them on Amazon recently to share with work friends. I’ve had my favorite one for about 15 years, and it has survived multiple drops onto cement floors. I can also soak the whole thing in solvent if I need to, which helps remove certain kinds of glue residues.
I think you misspoke at 2:20 and meant to say Siser EasyWeed for favorite HTV. :)
Ahhh!!!! Yes, so sorry. Sisier EasyWeed is amazingggg :)
Yeah not a fan..found an amazon brand I love and their packaging is awesome
@@jrl9319 Ah! So glad you found a brand you like! :)
