    Brand new to cricut. I watched a few different videos from other channels and thought I knew what I was doing. I’ve done 2 projects so far both of which had mistakes. After watching this video I realized I’ve made about 90% of those common mistakes. Excited to try again now that I have a better understanding.

      Silhouette can "weld" letters together, so I don't see why a cricut couldn't do that. It is so much easier than moving each letter individually. I just ordered a cricut, and I'm very disappointed to learn cricut doesn't have that option.

    • @oscargoldfield1593
      @oscargoldfield1593 4 года назад +5

      I'm getting a Cricut for Christmas, so I'm trying to learn a few things. When I saw that you had to move each letter, I was surprised! That just seems like a ridiculous step that must be made. For $500 I would expect the letters to all weld with the push of a button. Geez. Great suggestion.

    • @ellynbraun7029
      @ellynbraun7029 3 года назад +2

      Can’t you just decrease the letter space? I know some things are different from computer vs mobile, but that’s what I do

    • @StashandNotions
      @StashandNotions 3 года назад +4

      @@ellynbraun7029 you can, but it’s lazy programming when the software doesn’t do it by default. I now do all but my writing lettering in illustrator because it’s more efficient.

    At the top of Design Space there's an option for letter spacing... decreasing this will automatically pull your letters together. Much easier kerning!

    • @MakersGonnaLearn
      @MakersGonnaLearn  3 года назад +7

      This is not a solution for all fonts, which is why we don't recommend it all the time because 9 out of 10 times you will still have to ungroup and manually kern :)

    I wouldn't say all of these are mistakes, but more about preference. I have always used my light blue mats the most, even for vinyl and HTV because thats what I prefer. The green is ok but a little more sticky than I prefer. I also hate weeding from my mat.

    • @heathergallant2361

      FWIW, I need to use my blue mats on vinyl a LOT until they become unsticky enough to not cause my papers and cardstocks to stick to the mat and disintegrate when I try to remove them from the mat.

    These are excellent tips and Being a Newbie these are really Helpful, Question when you talk about measuring How would I do that with an acrylic cup? Do I measure fully around? I've been trying to do a full wrap but can't get it just right.

    • @MakersGonnaLearn
      @MakersGonnaLearn  4 года назад

      Great question! For sizing vinyl on cups, we recommend sizing them around 3". When sizing them, if you go too large your design will look warped if the decal wraps too far around the cup.

    I can honestly say I have never made any of those mistakes. I have to admit though that I'm watching this for tips while waiting for my Cricut to arrive. lol I really loved the tips, especially the weeding one. I have seen others turn the mat upside down and peel the vinyl off that way so it doesn't roll up, but you way has it in a stationary position and that would make it so much easier. I will also remember the last tip about making sure the blade is inserted all the way. I also have a tip--I was told people have the blade for years and never buy new ones Sometimes bits of paper or other debris gets caught on it and stops it from cutting well. If you keep poking the blade into a rolled up ball of foil that will clean it off Thanks so much for sharing! I have subbed and will be back to check your links, especially the one about mat use.
