Recs for Ultra Wide + Mid Range Zooms! APS-C Lenses are great because they are incredibly lightweight and generally more affordable. I’ve been shooting crop 4K60p on the Sony a1 for a year now and I’ve always gotten great results! No doubt, these will be excellent for the Sony a7 IV! Which would you choose?

Tamron 11-20mm f/2.8 would be my choice. Seems like the smart choice to fit under my Tamron FE 17-28mm f/2.8 for those “I need wider 4K 60p” moments. But honestly, I’d probably just shoot 1080 in that situation before buying a new lens 🤷‍♂️

I am shooting on the Sony 10-18 F4oss and also using the Sony 11mm F1.8 for low light situations. The OSS lens in my opinion allows me to get more stable footage in handheld mode. But the 11mm is much sharper and has the newer dual focus motors.

I am shooting 4k60 on my Sony A74 with the Sony 10-18oss lens. I love the quality of the video, however the low light performance with the F4 leaves more to be desired. I love the ultra wide performance for car vlogging up close. I also have the Sony F1.8 11mm prime lens and that helps out a lot when shooting video with limited lighting. I love the APS-C lenses because when using the wide auto focus setting you can keep the entire frame in focus while vlogging and not have bokeh on yourself. Thanks for the amazing video Jason. I always love learning about camera/lens set ups from you!🙏

    Isn't the Tamron 17-28mm f2.8 a good option for the a7iv 4k crop?

Another great video! I'm currently building my lens collection for Sony EF and this was helpful even tho I'll probably never use APSC on my full frame, I'll just shoot 1080 if I need un-cropped 60p

excellent idea to make this video! very useful!
My own sloppy idea how to deal with it, was basically buying wider lenses - so instead of buying the Sony 35mm GM, I got the Sony 24mm GM, which gives me an F2.0 36mm lens.
I figure this method will work pretty much all the way up and down the scale of focal lengths... And I'm sort of getting 2 primes in one ;-) The 14mm GM puts me at ~20mm in crop mode.
The only zoom I need is the 24-105 F4, for something longer and the ability to record zoom action - the bag is still heavy, but less heavy than it would be without crop mode ^^

in my opinion you haven't said the right one ... in the meantime it is notoriously known that the stabilization of Sony cameras sucks, so it is useless to keep repeating that there are no problems if the lens does not have the stabilization because there is so much that of the camera. What I repeat, everyone knows that it sucks. If you then use the Active stabilization mode, it makes the crop, and even there it makes no sense because if I want to shoot for example at 24 or 28 mm you can't. In the end you always need a gimbal and then explain to me what is the point of putting a zoom lens and then not going beyond 16 mm as you say? That is, come on but what advice are they? ... Come on ...
