Recs for Ultra Wide + Mid Range Zooms! APS-C Lenses are great because they are incredibly lightweight and generally more affordable. I am shooting 4k60 on my Sony A74 with the Sony 10-18oss lens. I love the quality of the video, however the low light performance with the F4 leaves more to be desired. I love the ultra wide performance for car vlogging up close. I also have the Sony F1.8 11mm prime lens and that helps out a lot when shooting video with limited lighting. I love the APS-C lenses because when using the wide auto focus setting you can keep the entire frame in focus while vlogging and not have bokeh on yourself. Thanks for the amazing video Jason. I always love learning about camera/lens set ups from you!🙏
the tamron 17-70 sounds like a winner, for practical use 4K 60p, f2.8 (not sure if it is throughout) that golden 24-105 equivalence, extra lens stabilization, etc
The new Sony E 11MM 1.8 is amazing with the A7 IV 60p crop! I'm getting a 16.5mm equivalent and it's weather sealed with an amazing autofocus system. For around $600 including tax, you really can't beat it!
Should make a video of blind tests between 1080 60 and 4k 60. The oversampling on the A7iv 1080p is insane, imo it looks as good as the 4k120 on the a7siii
Hello! If I shoot on Sony a7iv with tamron 11-20 it is equivalent to 16.5 mm, but what happens if I shoot in 4k 60 frames? Will it crop up to 24.75 or will it continue to shoot in 16.5mm?
Hey Jason, Isn't the Tamron 17-28mm f2.8 a good option for the a7iv 4k crop? I read somewhere that the aps-c lenses do not allow to use the full potential of the sensor and that image quality is lost, great video btw
Another great video! I'm currently building my lens collection for Sony EF and this was helpful even tho I'll probably never use APSC on my full frame, I'll just shoot 1080 if I need un-cropped 60p

Jason, thanks for this video. @2:40 it was disappointing to hear the Tamron 11-20mm cannot be used in Full Frame Mode on my a7IV. For almost a year I've been wondering why I was unable to make that happen. The white dashed-line box on the LCD showing the real frame size I will get does not go away with any settings. The vignetting, however, does go away for me at about 13mm. Can you explain the reason please, and tell me what my a7IV APS-C Shooting menu settings should be for this lens? Thank you.
excellent idea to make this video! very useful! My own sloppy idea how to deal with it, was basically buying wider lenses - so instead of buying the Sony 35mm GM, I got the Sony 24mm GM, which gives me an F2.0 36mm lens. in my opinion you haven't said the right one ... in the meantime it is notoriously known that the stabilization of Sony cameras sucks, so it is useless to keep repeating that there are no problems if the lens does not have the stabilization because there is so much that of the camera. What I repeat, everyone knows that it sucks. If you then use the Active stabilization mode, it makes the crop, and even there it makes no sense because if I want to shoot for example at 24 or 28 mm you can't. In the end you always need a gimbal and then explain to me what is the point of putting a zoom lens and then not going beyond 16 mm as you say? That is, come on but what advice are they? ... Come on ...
Haha yeah but I also explained how each lens caters to different people's filming style so they can pick the best ones for themselves. For example, if someone does a lot more handheld they can go for the Tamron 17-70. But if someone else prefers strictly the widest lens for real estate gimbal work, there's the 9mm.
