You have too many zoom Lenses on your list, my favorite (3rd? why not 2nd !?)) party Lenses are the Voigtlanthar APO-Lanthar 35mm 2.0 Aspherical and the Voigtländer Macro APO-Lanthar 65mm 2.0 which have outstanding image quality and I love the manual focusing, I get much more sharpness where I want it than with my Sony GM prime Lenses !
The three lenses that I use the most are all Tamron (obviously): 17-28 f/2.8, 35-150 f/2-2.8, 150-500 VC VXD. It's a brilliant three lens setup. As for lenses I don't carry often, I prefer the image quality consistency of the 28-75 G2 over any 24mm zoom I've ever shot... And I have shot most. If I need a proper 24, I'm going to a proper ultrawide angle zoom or prime for it.
I do really appreciate your help. I was actually going to buy lenses for my camera and doing a lot of research when I saw your video. And seriously it solved almost 85% of the problems. Both time and money saved. Once again Thank You for your help with this video. And Best of luck for your videos.
It doesn't perform very well in direct lighting conditions, together with it's weight and price I went for the Sigma 24-70 instead. Now I just combine it with my 135mm GM and I have everything I need.
Good job! I agree that they are all awesome lenses, but what would be your ultimate kit without if any over lap for portraits, travel, sports and wildlife, etc ? Maybe come up with a couple different kit options? Thanks 😊
Love it! Curious why you recommend the Sigma 70 macro instead of the 105? The 105 is absolutely incredible and only $700 brand new but can be found near or below $600 regularly. Cheers!
I am so happy with Tamron's 17-28mm and 28-200mm, this duo has been great for a long time. I am ready to buy the Tamron 28-75 II for all you have said about it. Stefan, though you specialise in 3rd party, is there any comments on Sony's budget and lightweight primes as the 40mm f/2.5 which I am tempted to purchase? What do you think?
Hey thanks for the comment. That's a great combo indeed. I have not yet got my hands on the little primes long enough for review but they do look promising. For me I would want at least a F1.8 if I'm to supplement a prime with my F2.8's.
The 28-200mm from Tamron is a treat. But I’m not surprised, as I’m used to the 18-270mm for APS-C. Ok, tbh, I’m a bit surprised, the quality is astonishing, it is way sharper and has almost no chromatic aberration compared to the 18-270mm.
If you already have a canon EF to Sony adapter I highly recommend saving money and getting the better tamron 17-35 instead of the more expensive 17-28mm that’s native, also those extra few mm out to 35mm make it much more versatile
Thank you friend Stefan, very pro your videos have helped me to select my lenses, i have in this moments Rokinon35mm 1.4 and Tamron 70-180mm 2.8, Maybe I could change to the tamron 35-150 but it hurts me to lose those 30mm, best regards
That is going to be my 2nd lens for my first sony camera. Good alternative for the 16-35 GM? I rented one recently with a A7 mark 4 and omg I love that lens. 16mm is unusable unless you crop in but it’s incredibly sharp. I shoot mostly wide angle, what do you recommend?
@@mcintosh.motors depends on what your needs are. 16-35 is a landscape/travel/vlogger lens for smaller spaces. Complementing it with an 85mm 1.4 could be a great option. I really like shotting 24mm + 85mm, so it should be good, but the lens swapping is a bit annoying. That's why I bought a sigma 24-70, keep it on all day and shoot most stuff. Still need a prime for night stuffs though.
Hey i just bought the a7IV and i am a total novice at photography. I want to get good shots of my son playing in his men's leagues. Which of these would be the best for what i am trying to do?
Wonderful review. I added up all the lenses (which covers nearly every photography situation I can imagine, and there is some overlap of reach) which came to $9,900. I own some of the lenses listed. #7 Looks promising for what I am looking for, the Tamron 17-28mm. Thanks for taking this on.
Loving the sony A7iv, but does anyone know what focus setting to use when I have multiple talking heads and want to show case an item? Camera keeps focus on the talking heads and not the item in front of the lens? Thanks
Tamron 28-200 is great lens, but I always missed 24 on wide end. Switching lens made me to replace with 24105G. I'm really great about that change. Sigma 100-400 is almost ideal, but AF is not so good :( I got maybe 30% of sharp pictures of my running dog. Still, this is most lightweight from true telephotos lens choice. Good price.
My collection of third party lenses is quite extensive. Mostly Sigmas and one Tamron. 12-24mm F2.8, 24mm F1.4 Sigma, 28mm F1.4 ( picked up for $500 new), 40mm F1.4 ($500 new), 85mm F1.4 (DG DN), 105mm F1.4, 70-180mm Tamron.

Sony is very smart company. To walk on one level with beast like canon or nikon, they just give opportunity to alternative lenses company, and here you have, people buy more sonys cause here is nice and cheap lenses like sigma. But with mirrorless on canon or nikon for same quality of lenses client will pay x2 or x3. Great move sony!
My Sony a7 IV just arrived with two lenses, Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 DG DN Art and Sigma 100-400mm f/5-6.3 DG DN OS Contemporary. From reading reviews and comments and checking pictures people shared they seemed like excellent combination for decent price. There is one issue, 100-400mm is not officially compatible with Sony a7 IV as per Sigma website and my real life experience. How did you (and anyone else who says they used it) get it to work?
@@zweiche I sold my 24 samyang 1.8 and sony 85 1.8 to shoot the sigma 24-70 and I don't regret it. I'm going to get myself an 85 1.4 or a 70-180 2.8 though for the long end. thank you for this beautiful video. Is there much difference in quality between Tamron 28-75 first and second versions? Do you recommend sigma or tamron for telephoto lens?
Surprised no sigma 35 1.2. I know it’s heavy but in the used market it’s cheap for what it is. Plus it’s the only 3rd party 1.2. If I ever shot Sony then this lens is on my list. No matter the size that 35-150 would be my 1st. I dont even care if IQ wasn’t the greatest out there.
I have two questions about the Samyang 135mm, since you're one of the only reliable reviewers of it. How does it perform on the A7R4 vs the Sony 135mm GM? Would I be able to crop down the same amount with the same level of detail? And how is the autofocus speed vs the Tamron 28-75mm G2? Thank you so much for these reviews!
Only AF is stronger on the sony. If you don't shoot action, don't bother. Just check your samyang if it's well centered, if it isn't return it and get a new one.
@@proksalevente the lens quietly got pulled from all the online retailers here in South Africa a couple days after I made that comment, just before I could buy it. How odd haha.
