Great choices! It all depends on the ''look'' we want to achieve, desired compression, etc. Im a sucker for the 35mm focal length, however, a 20mm comes in handy from time to time. On the longer end I have liked the 100-400 from Sigma. Great lens without breaking the bank. And at the end of the day, we can never forget that its not about the tool, its about who is using it!
Great selection! So many nice options for that system... Got also the A7 IV as my main cam and the Tamrons 28-75 II, 70-180 and 150-500 and the Sony 85mm f1.8. Even though it is by far the biggest the 150-500 amazed me the most lately. It's absolutely awesome. Will also add the Sigma 16-28mm f2.8 very soon and also have an eye on the Tamron 28-200 for extended hikes when I want my package light & compact. If I'd combine it with the Sigma and the A7C I could shoot 16-200mm under 1,5kg. Love that. 😎
Lots of great options for E mount. I love my Sigma 24 as well - especially for video. The Sigma 28-70 is quite soft wide open, but I think that’s part of your aesthetic so it makes sense why you like it so much. I prefer the Sony 24-70 GM ii because I’m more of a pixel peeper.
Before I switched to Canon I shot Sony....the Sigma 24mm f1.4 NEVER left my camera. If it did it was to throw on the Sigma 105mm f1.4 Art. That 24mm has landed me TONS of jobs. Absolutely loved it.
I agree in many points with you 👍🏼 Currently in Japan, I took the Tamron 17-28, Sigma 35 1.4 and Sony 85 1.8 As a day Lens I took the 24-105 but I think Tamron 28-75 would be a little bit better except for the longer Zoom. I don’t have a 20 or 24 1.4 but I belive it’s amazing for Videography!
Mitch I had my A7IV up for sale for the past couple of days. After watching this video, I've taken the listing down. I sold most of my lenses a few months ago and I've never really bought any super nice lenses since owning the camera. This video has inspired me to keep going and to find some lenses I gel with. Thank you so much for this.
I owned 2 of lens in this video . Sigma 35mm DGDN & 28-70mm DGDN. I got to say I love 35mm so much its very versatile. I used it to shoot wedding especially night reception. f1.4 really helps at all. 28-70 on the other hand is useful for travel. its very light, & compact compared to its sigma 24-70 or Gmaster 24-70. one more lens I own is 85mm DGDN for portraits shot. its really good, sharp as GM for the half of the price. not to mention build quality great too. I can say Im Sigma fans so much.
I've got the 85mm 1.4 too - I don't use it quite as much as my 70-180 but its a great lens for weddings. Yes - been a Sigma fan since the first EF 35mm 1.4 Art came out I think around 2012-13.
I can't get over how good these shots are, Mitch. I have to ask, was it the 3rd party lenses that ultimately caused you to switch over to Sony? You took so many bangers with the r6 as well.
Thanks Wesley! It was one of the reasons. To be honest it’s really not about the camera as many people continue to say. I’m confident with almost in camera in my hand and I think that just comes down to practice and vision - knowing what you’re trying to make ahead of time and problem solving on location to get there. Having said that some people find confidence in knowing they have good tools so to each their own.

I have Tamron 28-75, 17-28, 28-200. Sony 12-24 f4, and my favorite much like yours is the Sony 24mm 1.4 GM. Gosh I shoot so much stuff with the 24mm. That wide but not too wide is perfect and that 1.4 can make some juicy backgrounds. Love it! Great video.

My recent favorite is the Sony 20-70 G lens. However, I have a love-hate relationship with the Tamron 28-200 (mostly love). My choice is 7C + 24-70 f/2.8 GM II. I used to take the 100-400 along for travel, but I never used it. Looking at my picture data, I shoot "everything" at 40±15mm, so logically, why carry more? I recently acquired the 50mm f/1.2 GM, so I probably "must" take it along. I'll take my old Rotolight+EL trigger along. It is subtle magic if you keep an eye on what's happening. Yes I totally am. I go through my phases and I would say if it were just strictly portraits the 35 would win but when you bring in all the other genres of photos I take the 24 is just awesome.
Yeah that ones nice! Tried it a few years ago and while I loved the quality it was a bit heavy and chunky for me. But as a one lens setup it's pretty amazing.
@Stew Redman I’m surprised no other company has put out their own version of the RF 28-70mm F2. That lens is such a versatile powerhouse, for almost every scenario.
I have several GM lenses, for portraits, the king is the 135 1.8, every time I use it, puts a smile in my face,. O using third party lenses, I have the Tamron 28-75, tested against the GM 24-70 and could not tell the difference. Only issue with non native glass is that Sony cameras would not allow some features like breathing compensation or a good active IBIS, mostly video issues
Been a Sony shooter before. Now I can do pretty much everything on my 24 - 70 and Canon R5. Photo and Video. I don’t like owning so many lenses anymore and rather have a few extremely good and versatile ones.
This is a really good video because the dude is actually a good photographer, and the lenses are not super expensive. Nice break from all these RUclips gearheads.
great video thanks! Please give me some advice Which lens is better for portrait photography and why? Sony FE 85mm F/1.8. sony 90mm macro .85mm sigma art.
Even though im a Nikon shooter i share the love for a 24mm prime. Aside from that i use 50mm a lot and im looking forward to getting a 135mm as a special addition in my camera bag.
I like my kit a bit smaller, so I don't have to thinmk much about lenses and more about taking photos with what i have. I have 70-200 GM II and 35 GM as my main lenses. If i really need a wider shot I carry Sigma 24mm f3.5 with me as a backup, but I'm considering swittching that lens for 16-25 G, because sometimes I need to go even wider.
I just picked up the Sigma 28-70 2.8. Haven’t used it yet but it is small and balances well which is what I was after. My other lenses are the Sony 85mm 1.8, and the 200-600mm GM. I do want to get a prime 17 or 20 mm for wide shots and astrophotography, and probably another zoom in the 80 to 200 range.
We work with the same camera, A7IV and very similar lenses. Honestly I don't see the reason owning a 24mm lens, since I use a 16-35 GM, a 20 G and the 35 GM lens for Wide Angle, Landscape, Street photography and Environmental Portraits. The 20mm G lens on the other hand is almost a 24mm lens on my FX3 turning on the active stabilization and the focus breathing compensation (which we finally got with the V3 firmware update). Other than that I also use the Tamron 70-180 f2.8 (my favorite travel/portrait lens) and the Sigma 24-70 f2.8 all-around lens, but honestly I use it more for videos than photos (very versatile for videos, also very boring for photos).
@@MitchLally well the two sigmas match each other well. The same can be said for the two Tamron’s pair together. Not sure if either pair is better than the other but I favored consistence. Like the wider Sigma at 16-28/2.8 and it’s full internal design to pair with the 28-70/2.8.
I didn’t really. To be honest Sigma sent me their 24mm to review so I just decided to use it. I think they’re both great lenses though I just have had really good experience with Sigma over the years both before and after I had a working relationship with them.
Amazing video! I'm just starting my photography journey and thinking to buy a sigma 56mm 1.4. Do you think it will be hard for me to start since I have a crop sensor (sony a6400)? A zoom lens would be more appropriate?
I own a a6400 for few years and it’s great starting point to build your photography skills and to see what’s your style. The question is what are you going to shot…? For portraits sigma 56mm is the best, but quite limiting for a start to only have this lens. If you could get an sigma 16mm with 56mm, that would be enough for many scenarios. Or go with the tamron 17-70mm f2.8, a great and sharp lens and you are set for few years. Otherwise,if you can only buy one lens, i would go with sigma 30mm - this focal length is better suited to start your photography. All the best!
Yes depends on what you want to shoot, how you want it to look and what your goals are. I've seen some incredible shots recently even just shot on an iPhone. I think learning photography and practicing is waaay more important than what brand or format you buy. Personally I do recommend full frame - but aps-c is great and if it means you can put some of that saved cash toward an epic photography trip I wouldn't turn my nose up at that idea.
Sony 24 1.4 GM, Sigma 35 1.4 DGDN, Sony 50 1.4, Sigma 85 1.4 DGDN & Sony 135 1.8 GM… my 5 favorites (top picks) that I own (btw the Sony 20 1.8 is great value too). I suggest you try the Sigma Contemporary primes too…
Man I'm absolutely torn between getting the Sigma 16-28 or the Sigma 24mm 1.4 as my next lens to replace my now very old Zeiss 16-35 f4, never owned a 24mm 1.4 specifically but the character you can get from it is so tempting
Thank you so much for this video! I am about to invest in 35mm and I was set on Sony GM but after this video I will definitely consider Sigma 35mm DGDN. Especially since my all time favourite lens for my Sony A7R3 is Sigma 85mm 1.4 DG DN, just fabulous lens! Is there any other reason to choose Sigma 35 over GM? 😊 Thank you!
No - for all intents and purposes they perform so similarly that I could toss a coin to decide which to own and be happy with whichever way it landed :) The GM is a tiny bit lighter but the Sigma has the extra switches on the lens body which are nice.Oh - if you're shooting video the Sigma won't support lens breathing control! That a big one for some people who care about that stuff.
@@MitchLally thank you so much for your reply Mitch. Do you have any experience with Sigma 35mm 1.2? It's so hard to pick there's so many possibilities 😅
I had the Sigma for over 2 years and just got the GM. They are indeed very similar but the weight and size difference is pretty noticeable. The GM feels way more balanced on the camera. But optically they are about the same, the GM is better but that‘s really splitting hairs. What I think is pretty interesting: I think the AF is snappier on the Sigma, especially when focusing from close to far away - I use it on an a7iii btw. Also, to me the Sigma feels more premium because of the metal. Still, I decided to switch because of the size and weight. This is the only lens that is not Sigma in my line-up, all the others (24mm f1.4 DG DN, 85mm f1.4 DG DN and 24-70 f2.8 DG DN), I prefer Sigma over Sony. If they update the 35mm f1.4 and make it similar the size of the GM, I will get that lens for sure.
@@g33k3301 thank you so much for your comment! I ended up getting a Sony 35mm GM over 5 months now and it's definitely not a regret, the lens is pin sharp, lightweight and comfortable on the camera. I have a soft spot for Sigma as the 85mm DG DN is my favourite lens! I am excited to see the 50mm 1.2 DG DN in the Sigma lineup and how that compares to Sony :)
Not sure if I should get the sigma 28-70 or the Tamron 28-75.. nearly all of my emount lenses was from sigma 😵💫 but that Tamron 28-75G2 has a lot of very good reviews and tests.. what do you guys think?
I’ve always enjoyed photography, but just recently I’ve decided to take it a little bit more serious. My first professional camera being the a7Rv. The 70-200 Gmaster Mark 2 has been glued to my camera, I’m in love with how sharp and how fast the AF is. The Sigma 24-70 was my first lens and although it’s an amazing lens, I’m loving the longer focal lengths. My newest and I think it just might be my favorite is Sigma 85mm 1.4 DG DN.
Great set , I have 24-105 and Battis 85 1.8, 24-105 not bad but not extra , i would like buying sigma 50 dg dn , 35 sigma or gm , 14 mm GM , 135 sigma or samyang , and 35-150 Tamron or 70-200 Sigma or GM.😅😅😅
Hi Mitch! I want to be a wedding photographer. I am curious what lenses you would buy if you had a sigma 35 1.4 and a sigma 85 1.4 lens already? I want a third lens but i cant decide. Thank you
If you have the spare money a 70-200 will help you get more reach during ceremony and reception but I would focus on your photography and business skills and invest in that before any more gear. If you have 35/85 you already can shoot a whole wedding. Especially if you have a two cam setup on a holdfast.
Nowadays it's hard to find a zoom lens that doesn't zoom out from the body, causing dust to enter. can anyone advise which lens? i have sony & canon mirrorless.
Bad eye AF? Maybe in the original firmware but its been fixed now. Also there's no overheating? Unless you're doing long 4K 60p takes in which case I would ask why haha.
Pass on Tamron. From my experience, those are trash. I had the Tamron 28-75mm, & 28-200mm. I bought them because of the "Pro" photographer's HYPE them up. STUPID! The 28-200mm caused my camera to freeze, had to remove battery and thank goodness it worked again, and the color fringing was out of this world. I returned them the next day. The Tamron 28-75mm is just a bit better than the Sony kit FE 28-70mm (yes I tested them), but not $800.00 dollars worth. I'd rather use the Kit 28-70mm than waste my money on the Tamron's. Save your money! Too much hype for plastic crap. People are hyping it up because of the f2.8. But these camera now days that such good high ISO. Unless you shoot in the dark. You can picked up a used (why buy new) and get a native Sony FE 24-105mm G f4 for about $600.00. Pro lens, and if you buy it used without the PRO price. Then you will have all your focal ranges covered. And you can add a prime for fun if you'd like. GREAT video btw.
You're assuming that the more expensive native lenses are better and worth the extra money, and that's a pretty poor and uninformed assessment. Up until recently, Tamron and Sigma were pretty much kicking Canon, Sony and Nikon native lenses in image quality, features and build. It's only in the last 3 years or so that the big 3 caught up to the competition from Tamron and Sigma and perhaps surpassed them in some metrics. The tamron 35mm f1.4 is probably the best 35mm for any mount still all around though.
I'm asking why buy Tamron? Why not sony?? And the question is it because price . Is Tamron what is in his price range and if it wasn't why not sony lenses? I'm going to assume price.
@@bigbluerios Sony G & GM lenses are expensive my guy. plus if anything ever happened to one of those and you found yourself needing to buy a new one, that would make it even harder to stomach - as compared to needing to replace an equally as good but less expensive Tamron lens.

Hey Mitch, awesome content! Have you tried 24-105 F4 Sony?
I haven't but I used to own a Sigma 24-105 f4 but I sold it because I didn't use it much.
What about the 65mm you used a about 4 months back?
I’m kinda picking the 24-70mm 2.8 GM II from Sony. Or the sigma 24-70mm 2.8 DN Art.
Thanks for the video. If you like the Sigma 28-70/2.8 DG DN Contemporary pair it’s partner 16-28/2.8 with it instead of the Tamron you chose.
Why is it better than the Tamron?
@@MitchLally well the two sigmas match each other well. The same can be said for the two Tamron’s pair together. Not sure if either pair is better than the other but I favored consistence. Like the wider Sigma at 16-28/2.8 and it’s full internal design to pair with the 28-70/2.8.
great pictures mate, btw why did you choose the sigma 24/1.4 over the sony 24/1.4 GM?
I didn’t really. To be honest Sigma sent me their 24mm to review so I just decided to use it. I think they’re both great lenses though I just have had really good experience with Sigma over the years both before and after I had a working relationship with them.
In shoot mainly on the 24mm 1.4 too :)
Love the 24mm. 👌👌👌
Where are you at 1:34? Looks amazing.

@@MitchLally amazing, thanks mate
lurvesssss I need more lenses
Tamron 35-150 f2-2.8 is my favorit
such a dope lens, just a heavy lil' chonker.
@@wesleychapman9001 i have strong arms 👌
@@justonemorecapture that a man
Would love to try this one - have been asking Tamron for a while to send one over :)
Hi love You vid quality which lense you using to record this video in studio i would love to know about it
I only shoot with sigma lens...fav lens in descending order
1) Sigma 50-100 1.8 Art
2) Sigma 18-35 1.8 Art
3) Sigma 30 1.4 Contemporary
Sony 24 1.4 GM, Sigma 35 1.4 DGDN, Sony 50 1.4, Sigma 85 1.4 DGDN & Sony 135 1.8 GM… my 5 favorites (top picks) that I own (btw the Sony 20 1.8 is great value too). I suggest you try the Sigma Contemporary primes too…
Can you explain why DG DN and not GM for 35mm? Would like to know!
Man I'm absolutely torn between getting the Sigma 16-28 or the Sigma 24mm 1.4 as my next lens to replace my now very old Zeiss 16-35 f4, never owned a 24mm 1.4 specifically but the character you can get from it is so tempting
Thinking of getting the 16-35 gm 2.8f and them eventually 50mm gm 1.2f
For me the Sigma 24-70mm has been a game changer
I agree I was also set on that and am now considering the sigma b/c of this video.
I am excited to see the 50mm 1.2 DG DN in the Sigma lineup and how that compares to Sony :)
sony 20mm 1.4 or sigma 24 f1.4? here the question.. what you think's better?
How do you compare between Sigma 28-70 and Tamron 28-75 G2 ?
Not sure if I should get the sigma 28-70 or the Tamron 28-75.. nearly all of my emount lenses was from sigma 😵💫 but that Tamron 28-75G2 has a lot of very good reviews and tests.. what do you guys think?
Most used lens i have
Finally.. I bought the sigma 24-70 😄
I own the 85 1.4 DG DN too and it's awesome! Congrats on taking the step towards making it a career David!
This 85 1.4 is probably going to be my next one.
My favorite is Sigma Art 24-70mm 2.8 :D
The Sony FE 24-105mm F4G OSS...versatility plus
Great set , I have 24-105 and Battis 85 1.8, 24-105 not bad but not extra , i would like buying sigma 50 dg dn , 35 sigma or gm , 14 mm GM , 135 sigma or samyang , and 35-150 Tamron or 70-200 Sigma or GM.😅😅😅
Did you sell your Canon gear?
How i wish i have that camera too🥺
I always subscribe to a fellow A7IV shooter. 🤜🏼🤛🏻
What about Tamron 20-40mm 2.8?
Nice vid thanks! Subbed.
Only sad thing about the Sigma 24 and 35 DG DN's is the focus breathing for video :(
Any solution for a dust inside tamron 70-180?
do you use the tamron wide more or sony 20mm 1.8?
@3:00 is a helluva shot
Totally! Amazing.
Thank you mate! Very happy with those shots tbh!
hello, im an extreme noob, but i feel some of your photos are over exposed, ami right? is that intentional?
thanks
35 gang 🤝🏻 Great video as always man!
Lessgooo! 35 is strong.
hi! ajnyoen can answer me i have a7iv i wonder which both sigma 35/85 f1.4 or sigma 24-70 for travel/street/portrait. i just thinking....
50 mm 1.2 so far the best prime lens
Nowadays it's hard to find a zoom lens that doesn't zoom out from the body, causing dust to enter. can anyone advise which lens? i have sony & canon mirrorless.
I liked the A7iv besides the overheating and the bad eye af. The 35mm 1.4 gm was my favorite lens.
Bad eye AF? Maybe in the original firmware but its been fixed now. Also there's no overheating? Unless you're doing long 4K 60p takes in which case I would ask why haha.
I use none of the above but does that mean the sigma 24-70 f2.8 is bad 😢. No I love my lens.
Maybe if I used the sigma 24-70 it would be on my list too but I sadly haven’t!!
Fantástico!
I always thought 85mm would be on this
notification gang 💯
Gotta say it's disappointing to see American spelling being used by an Aussie
Without a 85mm prime the list is incomplete.
The most satisfying video i have seen in a while
As a british i love how our creators make that much good and inspiring videos
I'm Australian but you might have got me on a technicality there.
Hmmm the tampon 70-180 is weather sealed, or so they claim on their website
Do u buy Tamron because thats what u can afford at this time?? Why not buy something better
😅
@@bigbluerios It could well be quality
@@bigbluerios Sony G & GM lenses are expensive my guy. plus if anything ever happened to one of those and you found yourself needing to buy a new one, that would make it even harder to stomach - as compared to needing to replace an equally as good but less expensive Tamron lens.
